Almost An Epiphany

Filed in American Wota 3.0Tags: ,

So. Haruna comes to me and I sit her on my lap to watch the new Buono! PV together. And as I’m watching, it dawns on me: all of this Jpop idol stuff is pretty silly. Which is a strange conclusion to reach, since this isn’t exactly the silliest of PVs I’ve ever seen. Far from it, actually. Still, there was this weird edge to the thought, a chance of true epiphany… when in reality, I’m probably just tired and preoccupied with my child. I fully expect to watch the PV again tomorrow and think, “This is genius!” I look forward to that.

There’s nothing wrong with silly, I say. Silly and genius can go hand in hand.

    Amen to that, CJ.

  3. Brilliant (or crazy) minds must think alike. Because of unrelated issues, I’ve gone three days without any exposure to “idol stuff” and came to a similar conclusion late last night: It’s all silly. Plus, my second granddaughter is due to be born May 17, so idol stuff seems even more silly. Then … I popped in a recent concert DVD and all those thoughts were abruptly rendered moot.

If there is no God and the meaning of anything is always defered to something else in a never ending chain, then there is no real meaning to anything and life is utterly absurd… If life is absurd then we are all like Sisyphus trying to push a boulder up a hill only to have it fall down again… Therefore the question is: Why bother? Why not just kill ourselves?* Your answer might be Haruna but me, I don’t have a kid, I don’t even have a girlfriend, I just have idols… Momoko, Tsugunaga Momoko, the reason I exist… My suicide girl.

    * see Leibniz and Camus (but whatever you do don’t go to art school! :p hehe)
