Self-Criticism Session: April 2008

Filed in American Wota 3.0Tags: , ,

Well, this month sucked.

It started out okay, and there were a couple of features that I was excited about – that I continue to be excited about – as well as some others that were on hold. However, the second half of the month had me distracted – and this last week especially had my attention drawn to other things, some quite necessary and some not. This isn’t unusual for me, but it’s still disappointing.

So. I’m hoping to get both Berikyuu! Watch and the fiction back on track this month. Berikyuu! Watch is going to run shorter, but I’ll make sure it retains its standards of crudity and woeful misinterpretation. The fiction is different – there were legitimate creative reasons it got derailed (mostly, I got stalled for chapter five and rethought the direction it had to take). But I’m ready to dive into that again, as well.  And again, I need to get more Features in play, as well as better tend the worship sites.  That’s about it.

  1. Get back to what everyone was doing in November 2007. It was a better mix. Bottom line: Dtifting away from the idols and delving more into the esoteric areas of TV, doramas and obscure J-rock has watered down the impact for which this site has been made near-legendary. Give the more substantive blogs a higher profile; many recommended readings are for little more than a photo and caption. There’s a lot more than that out there. Need more readers? I’ll volunteer! In short, back to the basics: Idol worship, and music emphasis.

Rad, if you’re so concerned about us running IW “wrong,” take your supposedly helpful suggestions to your own blog and apply them there. I mean, why not? You seem so sure that our readership will jump if we hone in on a SINGLE facet of the gigantic Japanese entertainment scene, never mind all those OTHER non H!P bloggers out there, myself included, who have come to see IW as a common ground for ALL types of Japanese music bloggers.

And I don’t think you’re reading the “recommended” posts if you’re calling them what you are. To say some of them are “little more than a photo” completely discredits what most of them REALLY are: well thought-out blog entries on topics that don’t always revolve around your narrow view of the Japanese music world.

Sorry to bring this to your blog, Ray, but seriously, what the hell?

    “My oh Mai, Momusuparadise!
    Submitted by YankeeOtaku on April 8, 2008 – 10:26pm.

    Mai Hagiwara +101+

YO’s rating: A+ | If this treatment of Hagitty is any indication, Momusuparadise is a treasure trove of photos — some I’ve never seen. But, wait a minute … I thought Hagitty has not yet had a photobook. Well, with this site, she might never need one! Highly recommended.”

This links to an entry at http://momusuparadise.blogspot.com/2008/04/mai-hagiwara-01.html, which is an entry that posts 5 pictures of Maimai in a blog dedicated… posting pictures with captions. A+!

I don’t mind, and I agree with you completely. I just don’t get why Rad is commenting on Intl Wota when this post is clearly about Ame Wota. It’s not as funny a misreading of a blog post as this classic moment – but yeah, what the hell?

  6. pengie says:

Clearly your blogs are indistinguishable from one another. hell, I may very well be figment of your imagination!

  7. pengie says:

… that thought (see comment above) was not 100% completed. I think I meant to say “IW is just a piece of the AW puzzle, and none of the editors really exist.” Um. I shouldn’t be posting comments at 3:30 in the morning, or else I might mistake porn stars for mediocre pop stars too…

  8. I appreciate the feedback, but in all honesty, I was just agreeing with Ray’s original post. There is no “wrong” or “right” way to run anything in cyberspace. It is complete freedom, and everyone should enjoy it as he or she sees fit.

  9. pengie says:

Ray’s post is on American Wota. You reply is about International Wota. They’re two completely different sites, dude.

And if you were really agreeing, I doubt you would have started your comment with the “get back to what you were doing before” line. Um, if that’s agreement, I would hate to see what your disagreement looks like, Raddy my boy.
