Sunday Blog Roundup

Filed in Cult Of Pop 2.0

For me, the big news this week is the shift in content for Zaeleus’ blog Luna Tech. Luna Tech has always been a useful blog for translations of H!P products but now Zaeleus will also be providing H!P news and analysis as well! Right off the bat, he breaks the news on GAM and has comments from Mikitty and Ayaya on their new collaboration. And Gomattou was so long ago, I don’t blame Mikitty if she forgot it…

Speaking of Ayaya’s pairing with other people, at Idolizing St. Anna, Santos looks at her meeting with President Koizumi and Koizumi’s recommendation for young women to beef themselves up. Ayaya’s reaction is priceless, and Santos doesn’t have the most politically correct of responses… but many of us probably feel the same as both of them. A little off the beaten path, Santos also tells the story of Kigurumi Boukennka, who is travelling Japan dressed up as a rabbit – and follows up with his alleged meeting with BJ Girl in Hokkaido. And yes, the BJ is exactly what you think it stands for.

Béné of Béné Blog has found some funny H!P video clips on YouTube – and noted many of the same H!P girls are involved – and basks in the sexiness of Melon Kinenbi’s “Nikutai wa Shoujiki na EROS”. Kagofeet of Don’t touch my jpop! wishes Tsuji Nozomi a happy 19th birthday and –

Holy Crap! Tsuji is freaking nineteen? Nineteen? Holy Crap! That can’t be. Really? I mean, she was just an ugly little Nono such a short time ago and she was… Wow. Nineteen? Where does the time pass? And will she ever re-unite with Kago?

Anyway, where was I? Kagofeet’s Sunday PV Pick this week is from Bonnie Pink, and even includes Morning Musume’s “Go Girl! Koi no Victory” with all that football stuff going on that the rest of the world (but not the U.S.A.) gives a damn about. Speaking of sports, Asian Football Business Review has an article on Gatas Brilhantes deating JAL’s futsal team.

Thea of Made in Paradise has a short-but-sweet review of SweetS’ Precious Memories DVD (I’ll be getting around to my own this week), as well as breaks the news that dream’s dream Party 2006 DVD debuted at #1 on the Oricon charts! Can girl groups be making a comeback? And is that why AKB48 is getting so much attention? Akiramike of the mighty HamsapSukebe returns, asking if AKB48 is a guilty pleasure – and more important, if that pleasure will last.

On the rap front, Jordi of Subliminal Beats confirms that DJ Fumiya is still alive and will be returning to Rip Slyme in the fall, while jariten of HALCALI day by day has the girls’ live set from the MTV Countdown show. On the metal front, Go of jrocknyc looks at Gazette’s “Taion” PV as well as solo albums from Sex Machineguns’ Circuit V. Panther. On the indie front, Shay of SparkPlugged has more Back Horn goodness. And on the American alt-noise godfathers front, CJ Marsicano of Stuck in a Pagoda with Motoko Aoyama reviews Sonic Youth’s new album, Rather Ripped.

HANABI.1984 of J-Pop CD Cover Art has a lovely cover from BoA’s “Outgrow” and an army of Hikkis for “Keep Tryin'”. The guys at Your Opinion Doesn’t Count break the news of a planned American version of Japanese cult classic Battle Royale. Which is ironic, as the original didn’t make it to American shores originally because of Columbine… If even the Japanese sequel of the movie sucked, Lord know what an American version would be like. Further, the guys drool – rightfully so – over the pictures of Ayaya and Mikitty in their leggy GAM outfits.

Johnny of The Mind gives us a more personal look at his Jpop habits and blogging this week, including shots of his PSP playing JpopP PVs, some of his favorite sites linking to his blog (*cough* *cough*), and finally Johnny himself hard at work with the new Momusu PV. Webmikey has a review of the second volume of Genshiken as well as a look at that Nintendo DS game with the Morning Musume song on it.

On the luscious eyecandy front, Gail of the impressive Himitsu has some dreamy pics of Gackt – and yes, everybody does love Gackt, myself included. His music I can take or leave, but his TV appearances often amuse me… Meanwhile, Sunny Days has pictures of Domoto Koichi’s new single, variants included.

Oh, wait? Female eyecandy? Okay, Cute Cosplay Angels has an adorable schoolgirl set of bespectacled Tsunku protege Tokito Ami, a strangely compelling set of Hoshino Aki in a cat costume, and another set of Ozawa Maria slowly taking off a schoolgirl outfit. That Ozawa set continues as Sexy Japanese & Asian Cosplay has Maria stripping nude from that schoolgirl costume, as well as parts two and three of an incredible Hoshino Aki set – in bikini, not cat cosplay – that fills me with wonder and awe. And lust. Plenty of lust.

One last thing: you may want to check the members-only part of the Cult of Pop forum for a little surprise. If you don’t want to bother, I’ll be breaking the news tomorrow anyway.

Yaaaaay for Nono. And thanks for the male eyecandy paragraph this week. Greatly appreciated by the straight female regular visitor I am.

Haha. SO TRUE. I’d never even heard of the World Cup for Soccer until I came to Japan. (and I’m addicted, by the way)
