Sunday Blog Roundup

Filed in Cult Of Pop 2.0

Starting off with a flourish of literature, CJ Marsicano of Stuck in a Pagoda with Motoko Aoyama provides a stirring Ode to a 4th Gen iPod which I found quite dandy and a lot of fun to read. Read for yourself and enjoy the work of a true poet – and also consider his title question regarding Lordi, the winner of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. Go of the venerable jrocknyc has screencaps of Lordi for the curious. Go also now has a daily review feature on his blog, The Daily Audit, which of course covers Jrock and metal. The first installment includes Nightmare, Gazette, and Iron Maiden; the second installment has Kozi, Therion, and mucc. And if you’re interested, shiroi heya has a longer review of the Kozi album, Loki & Roll.

crs of 28 hundred hours highly recommends Tigarah and even provides downloads to encourage everyone. Gail of Himitsu (previously Kirei na Sora) has a list of upcoming releases – new Tommy Heavenly6 but no February6? – and a thoughtful piece on Nakashima Mika. The site’s new design also sports a very gorgeous photo of Sowelu, if I’m not mistaken… The Johnny’s blog Eden has an interesting list of favorite donburi by a wide range of talento. If it doesn’t make you hungry, I don’t know what will…

usagi of the usagi incidents is quite smitten – well, that’s a polite way of saying it – with Zwei’s new PV, and she’s finally happy with where the Nana animated series is going. Shay of SparkPlugged notes yet another cover of the Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.” – this time by a Korean comedian. Shay actually finds it funnier, though not as homoerotic. But come on! “Y.M.C.A.” without the gayness is like a steaming hot dog without the soft, cushy bun… or a hard-charging bullet train going through a deep, dark tunnel… or… well, you get the idea.

On the Hello! Project front, the gifted Lainay of Channel Ai provides a pungently incisive review of Viyuden’s latest single. Ikmasshoi has news of Maeda Yuki’s comeback after two years. Madara of Madara Blog writes about his absolute favorite Hello! Project concert, Natsumi Abe’s graduation. Charming Worlds has returned after a hiatus, renamed Her Charming World: this week it has some screencaps of Goto Maki’s new PV and of course pics of Takahashi Ai. Johnny of The Mind has the farewell messages from Konno and Makoto on their upcoming graduations, as well as the lyrics to Tamaki Nami’s “DreamerS”.

Your Opinion Doesn’t Count has a very interesting couple of photos of Nozomi Tsuji and their J-Music Clip of the Week is Goto Maki’s “Glass no Pumps”. KagoFeet of Don’t touch my jpop! also has that PV, along with Nakashima Mika’s latest, as well as some info and a clips of AKB48. He also takes issue with “otaku scum” – really, is there a need for such name-calling? – who film themselves doing the dance routine for Berryz Koubo’s “Special Generation”. I don’t know, I thought the second guy was actually really good, even if his choice of headgear was unfortunateand silly. The first guy didn’t try hard enough and was just boring. And I would’ve paid closer attention if either of them actually had the balls to dress like the Berryz…

On the Avex Trax front, the tag-team of Idolizing St. Anna and Made in Paradise are back, celebrating the one-year anniversary of Hinoi Team. Santos examines the reaction of the Hinochi girls themselves, while Thea believes this lucky day helped her personally. bagofpeanuts of Koppie Dip!! has a nice screencap review of AAA’s latest PV. Last but by no means least, Béné of Béné Blog has more news on SweetS’ last single, “Color of Tears”, noting how mature the girls look for the cover.

Meanwhile, the Namie love continues in the wake of her double A-side single. Over at J-Pop CD Cover Art, HANABI.1984 serves up two very recent Amuro Namie goodness: the steamy cover to Queen of Hip-Pop and the beautifully simple CD-version cover to Can’t Sleep, Can’t Eat,I’m Sick / Ningyo. Also, Karakui has the video for “Ningyo” available for viewing.

On the eyecandy front, Miki of Deepest Thoughts provides a new Model File, this for Battle Royale alum Minami, and has launched a separate Sawajiri Erica site, Blogging Erica. Definitely worth a look! Speaking of Erica, Japanese Photobook Idols has the third and final installments of its Sawajiri Erika series. Cute Cosplay Angels has photos from Shihono Ryo’s second photobook here and here. And for the first time, I’m beginning to see the light about Ryo… or at least, the glare of all those panty flashes.

On the Jdorama front, Akiramike of the mighty HamsapSukebe looks at the latest Shimokita Glory Days, providing the expected eyecandy screencaps along the way. Akiramike also has a nice selection of Isoyama Sayaka goodness! On the wise consumer front, Mikey of WEBmikey has a handy guide for Buying Media from Japan.

And on a final patriotic note, a message to all Nevadans out there: vote Mimi Miyagi for governor! There’s an article about the busty porn star’s run for office at Asian Sex Gazette, here’s her gubernatorial campaign site, and finally her blog. I’m actually not a fan of her work – when it comes to Asian American stick flicks chicks, I prefer the likes of Kitty Yung and Kobe Tai – but any porn star running for high office should be encouraged. Especially if they’re Republican.

How do you mean you’ve ‘seen the light’ regarding Ryo Shihono?
Has your opinion of her changed?

i can’t take credit for the term “Otaku Scum.” i actually got the terminology from our good buddies over at Your Opinion Doesn’t I just found the word “Otaku Scum” to be hilarious.

You flatter me too much, Ray… I was out of meter in quite a few lines on that one (a shameful thing for me to given that I’m a musician with 20-plus years experience!). I almost pulled a Jello Biafra and dispensed with rhyming lines altogether!

Another great round-up!…and yes, while this Korean version of YMCA may not be AS homoerotic as the Hard Gay one, the fact that it is still YMCA automatically makes it quite a bit though. good stuff good stuff, plus, I like the analogy 😛 lol

About the blog, buying stuff from Japan, i agree Amazon JP is the best and easiest to use. The shipping is high, but they send via DHL and I get my stuff in 2 days! (SF Bay Area) CDJapn is a bit cheaper but they don’t have a lot of esoteric stuff like many jr. idol dvds, and NO printed matter except mags. Their Japanese site NEOWING is MUCH better, but the site is totally in Japanese so ordering is almost impossible without some Japanese reading ability. However, I found a solution of sorts (because my kanji reading is about 150) The layout of both CDJapan and NEOWING is virtually the same, so first open up the ordering/setup acct. page in CDJapan (in English) then put the NEOWING window side by side. If all else fails you can use a page translator, but don’t say i didn’t warn you….
I am glad to see you have come to your senses about good ol’ RYO. I esp recommend the shots of her eating a white Popsicle with all that white gooey stuff running down her mouth, thighs..need I say more?

BTW: for those who want a peek inside all those jr. idol PB’s, here is a site that has tons of them, but you can only view thumbnails unless you pay..but it DOES let you know if a PB is worth getting:
