Sunday Blog Roundup

Filed in Cult Of Pop 2.0

Call me Pavlovian in my responses, but far and away my favorite post of the week is from Wapiko at Musings of a Fangirl: after a long wait, she provides the third part of her Best Unique Photoshoots series! It’s worth the wait, as Wapi has a great eye for an interesting shot whether sexy or classy or just plain odd. I especially like the one with Suzuki Mayuka in sunglasses and redneck T-shirt, the Ueto Aya shot is pure attitude, and there are three words for the Yuuka shot Wapi chose: Oh. My. God. I don’t think I can look at her videos again without this haunting me.

Also on the eyecandy front, HANABI.1984 of J-Pop CD Cover Art has Hinoi Team’s Night of Fire as well as the latest of Koda Kumi’s Around the World in a Dozen Caricatures series. And at Idols Unlimited, pictures and videos of Hoshino Aki and a Kumada Yoko photobook.

At Stuck in a Pagoda with Motoko Aoyama, a couple of H!P posts on the same day provoked a split response from me: specifically, Berryz can do whatever the heck they want, and I thought the same thing about Mari, actually. Madara at Madara Blog asks if Gocchin’s graduation DVD is the best Morning Musume concert ever and follows up on this line of questioning. Over at the usagi incidents, the phrase “unrequited schoolgirl lesbian love” caught my attention on a song / PV I hadn’t previously been aware of (but will now keep an eye out for), and there’s also a nice example of Ayaya’s undeniable charm.

ikimasshoi has changed homes and came out with a spate of news, including a new single from ex-Speed Imai Eriko, while at Ai no Tane, Freya confirms the 2006 H!P Sports Festival. At Made in Paradise, Sally discusses Front Girl Syndrome while Thea covers news of a fourth Hinoi Team single before the release of their first full album. And apparently, Koriki’s still hanging out with the girls. At 28hundred hours, crs covers the news of Rain’s arrival in the States on the set of TRL and gives some Bi video downloads to celebrate.

Jariten of HALCALI day by day has news about Halcali’s next single, which apparently has been ready for a while. Over at Eden, there’s a ton of newly translated interview material, including this one where Yamashita Tomohisa of News expresses a wish to live in Hawaii someday. Morning Scene has news of a new Japanese music download service set to launch in February. At Your Opinion Doesn’t Count the J-Music Clip of the Week comes from Sambomaster.

Santos of Idolizing St. Anna provides a very helpful review of Hard Gay’s new DVD as well as the “YMCA” PV. And in the midst of its usual fine reportage of Japanese AV releases, Barely 18 Movies has clips of Hard Gay. And while not porn, on the Jdorama front Akiramike of the mighty HamsapSukebe gives an amusing review of 2nd House. Also, bagofpeanuts of Koppie Dip!! looks at the first episode of Haru to Natsu.

On the couch potato front, Furusato Chronicles takes a look at the current crop of TV shows – worth mentioning mostly because of the positive mention of 24, a show the wife and I love. Even go of jrocknyc is admitting to the lure of this season’s premiere… And on the Keeping Track of Jarret front, Jarret of I’m bad at naming things talks of how break’s over for him. Hang in there, Jarret!

Huh, it’s been a busy week for blogging; I’ve really fallen behind in reading.

also, not sure if you know this already, but Bi = Rain. or rather, Rain is the english translation of the korean word Bi.

  2. crs:

I had finally figured it out in the context of that TRL entry you did, but must admit before that I thought they were two different people…

Thanks yo! 😀 You should go put in your vote =)

I love your round-ups – it directs me to posts I never would’ve read if you hadn’t blurbed them.

The best reaction to my post about tbe Berryz cover of Jyakenpyon was from the only non-otaku who responded. Everyone else who posted a response screamed sacrilege. XD

  5. Wapiko:

I just voted – and everyone else who goes there should, too!

I figured since Tsuji did “Jankenpyon” with some Berryz girls on the first W / Berryz tour, it was okay. But Berryz can do whatever they like anyway, because they’ll be taking over H!P soon and we must welcome the new, extremely cute overlords.

That said, I’ve got my own issues of sacrilege: no H!P group should do “Koi wo Shichaimashita” except Kaori, Mari, Rika, and Kago. Reina doing it solo’s okay, though… cause you know, it’s Reina. And if Berryz do it… well, they ARE the new overlords. I can live with that. But only if Momoko has the Kago lines.

“Koi Wo Shichaimashita” is mine and my girlfriend’s theme song… a point made ironic considering that she doesn’t like J-pop in general. I think she’s barely starting to come around though, as she discovered Hinoi Team when she found their Night On Fire video on Google Video and liked it and pestered me for it… only to get dissapointed when I said I hadn’t heard their music before she found the video.

  7. CJ:

My wife and I have a theme song too… Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma!” And neither of us has ever been to the state. And really, your girlfriend shows great taste in choosing Hinoi Team!

    Thanks for the mention. XD
