Sunday Blog Roundup: Luscious Luscious Eye Candy, DEF. DIVA rule Oricon, and blah blah — RARGH!

Filed in Cult Of Pop 2.0

I must confess, my favorite blog entries this week are all about the eye candy. I’m not sure why, I think I’m just in the mood for pretty pictures of pretty girls. Well, even more so than usual. Which may be saying a lot. Anyway, Renzeta at Sagaliminal provides some shots from Tanaka Reina’s new photobook as well as a nascent conspiracy theory. Cute Cosplay Angels (hey, didn’t it use to be Sexy Cosplay Angels?) has photos from Kawabe Chieco’s photobook, parts one and two. Some of Chieco’s shots remind me a great deal of Ueto Aya, which is a good thing in her case. And I especially like the second photo in the second set, though it’s debatable how much that resembles Ueto one way or the other…

The big news this week as reported by Mark at ikimasshoi is that DEF. DIVA may be the first Hello! Project single since Morning Musume’s "As For One Day" to be Oricon’s #1 single for the week. Mark dutifully notes that this isn’t a very competitive week on the charts – but hey, H!P fans will take whatever good news comes their way. At Melon Pop! (hey, didn’t it use to be What Time? Suika Time.?), Suika does a really nice review of DEF. DIVA’s single, "Suki Sugite Baka Mitai", taking the history of each member into account in his assessment. (Personally, I liked Ayaya’s performance on "Get Up! Rapper", Kermit-esque as it is.)

In other news, Thea of Made in Paradise and Santos of Idolizing St. Anna both note that Hinoi Team’s new single will be a cover of "Night of Fire" – also covered by 3-nin dream way-back-when (and used for a Chupa Chups commercial). The inclusion of comedian Korikky for this single is kind of odd, but maybe he’ll become a permanent member of Hinoi Team and make thousands of otaku heads explode as a result. As dedicated as ever, Santos also takes a look at Saaya’s activities this week, including her new DVD Little Legend and her second appearance on Kyuyo Meisai. He also dutifully notes that Saaya thinks her fans are "maniacs" and "a bit nasty"… ahh, out of the mouth of babes.

Go of jrocknyc went to see all-girl visual kei band Danger Gang and gives a rousing account of the show, including a great quote from one of the opening acts:

blah blah — RARGH!
blah blah — RARGH!
blah blah — RARGH!
blah blah — RARGH!

That said, the one photo of Danger Gang’s drummer may convince me to pick up their single. Ahh, my eye candy mood persists… Meanwhile,Gaki of has discovered Onitsuka Chihiro and shares some downloads with readers.

Outside of Jpop but within our little corner of the blogosphere, Phil at breadready declares Supanova Sydney 2005 the BEST. CONVENTION. EVER. Serious words from a serious fan. Jarret of I’m bad at naming things fills us in on what he’s been up to lately, though my question remains: Have you picked up the second Konno photo book yet? I want details! Akiramike of HamsapSukebe looks at a new dorama, Nobuta wo Produce, including some screencap shots of girl-on-girl action. Miki of Miki’s Sorcery got a chance to choose a Goto Maki song while out with friends. And Wapiko of Musings of a Fangirl is officially on hiatus with her blog, though she hopes (as do I) that a new Zwei album in December will re-spark her muse.

Last but not least, here are three blogs I’d not seen before but may be worth your time. Andrew’s Blog is a new blog interested in Jpop. The blog Free Stuff From Japan is offering among this month’s prizes a pair of Goto Maki clear folders – enter for a chance to win it! And Junk Odyssey is an MP3 rotation blog where you can download lots of different Jpop and Kpop.

    her. 🙂

In the past, I was much too embarrassed to go to a bookstore and pick one up. However, being in this country for the past couple of months, I think I’ve pretty much shed that embarrassment. I will buy it eventually, but I’m thinking of waiting a little while.

  3. Suika:

Aggh, my apologies! I knew before you were female from reading your profile on MM-BBS, but I’d forgotten… I won’t make that mistake again.

    Not to you, at least.

Cool. Of course, you’ll need to blog about it when you do!

Quick clarification: I’m not Suika. Sorry if I’m causing any confusion. It’s my fault: I shouldn’t be using such a vague nickname that can be taken as an abbreviation for someone else’s.

No, I’m not going to change it. One of the myriad of things that S stands for is “stubborn”. 😛
