A little over 2 weeks ago the full PV for Tegomass’ new single, Sayonara ni Sayonara was released.
Hey, look at this guys, I’m finally catching up and reviewing PVs that are hardly old now. See, I promised that if you just bared with me I’d get to do all the recent PV reviews. Well, if you follow me on twitter you’d know that’s what I promised. And if you don’t follow me on twitter, actually why don’t you follow me on twitter yet? I’m joking of course. Well, half joking.
I have never really been a big fan of Tegomass, mostly because Tegoshi has always been my least favorite NEWS member. While the whole 2 members leaving situation made me realize that Tegoshi might actually be an ok guy sometimes, I still don’t care for him. And the reason I don’t like Tegomass is because it’s a sub group made up of arguably the most talented singers in NEWS. (I say arguably because it’s a stone-cold fact that Tegoashi always has been the best singer of NEWS, expect for when Kusano was almost overtaking him. But it’s debatable if Massu is second best. Sometimes it feels like Kei-chan and sometimes it feels like Massu) Because they are the best singers they pretty much only get slow songs or ballads to showcase their voices, which I find extremely boring. And since they release ballads it doesn’t make for an eventful PV. And now we’ve come full circle and you can see the opinion I have about the PV.
The PV actually isn’t awful, but it’s not bad either. It’s actually the quality I’ve come to expect from Tegomass. And it’s about as interesting as they could make it since it is such a slow song. They actually do have a clear concept for this PV and it’s actually not a bad idea. 8/10 of this PV consists of Tegomass just sitting by a window as the seasons change. While I did think that was pretty boring just by the PV preview, after seeing the full PV I think it’s actually pretty cool. A year passes by Tegomass, it goes from spring to winter. While the seasons pass it tracks a relationship. Meeting in spring, starting to date in the summer, breaking up in the fall, meeting someone new in the winter, and finally returning to spring where a new love blossoms.
I think those are really really cute scenes. So cute that to me they are really the only scenes the PV needs, and Tegomass’ parts seem kind of unnecessary to me. They spend the entire PV looking out the window at this girl. Sure you could say it’s them kindly watching over her love, but it seems kind of stalkerish to me. Or voyeuristic at the very least. The only part of Tegoshi’s and Massu’s scenes that I do like is that the room inside’s lighting changes to correspond with the new season. And that’s honestly about it.
So, I guess I’m really on the fence about this PV. While I do appreciate the storyline of the girl, I’m left wanting more from Tegomass’ parts. I think if this tracked Tegoshi’s and Massu’s relationships with girls it would have really put this PV over the top for me. You just don’t get that legitimate emotional feel from them just watching a stranger. It would have been so much better for them to look back on their past year.
This is actually really pretty.
It’s super important to see what’s on the table.
Massu looks super cute.
Couldn’t they even have the globe showing Japan? Lol.
Tegoshi is just not appealing to me in the slightest.
Tegoshi always tries way too hard to be cute.
I love how this girl is walking past the window and Tegomass is just doing their own thing and not caring at all.
Can someone please explain to me why Massu is wearing two pairs of pants?
Too cute for words.
Really wish I knew what this said. But there’s a smiley face and stars, so it has to be good.
Creepy window Massu sees all.
Love Massu’s bright smile.
Tegoshi is wearing a white shirt and an ascot. He looks ridiculous. He literally looks like a French chef.
The texts are still looking pretty positive.
Love her outfit.
Aww poor her.
Good riddance, who wants to go to an opera anyway?
Another cute outfit.
Tegoshi is way too into watching her.
Massu too, for that matter.
I wonder what’s in the bag.
Oh, it’s an ugly scarf.
And it’s spring again.
What’s on Massu’s ears? They look like earrings, but they aren’t on his lobe.
And a happy ending.
