Come on a release a new single already Hey! Say! JUMP

I think I speak for the entire fandom when I say, “what’s going on with Hey! Say! JUMP?” I mean seriously. Unless you’re a new Hey! Say! JUMP fan you’re probably aware of the fact that Hey! Say! JUMP haven’t released a new single in over a year. The last single they released was Super Delicate on February 22, 2012. Well, even if you’re a new fan you’re probably painfully aware of this. But you probably won’t know the anger and overall annoyance that comes along with not releasing anything in over a year.

Now, this isn’t exactly a new thing for Hey! Say! JUMP. I became a fan of them back in 2009 during their first unexpected, and for no good reason, year long hiatus. Back then I honestly did not care. Since I was a new fan the hiatus gave me enough time to catch up to the group. Watch concerts, memorize the members names, get a feel for their personalities, and get really familiar with the music. It was fun. It’s obviously easier to catch up on an idol group in their downtime, but it’s honestly just as easy to catch up with them in real time. Mostly because most idol groups don’t have year long hiatuses. Do you realize that even NEWS didn’t miss a year in between release? Well, of course right before the members left they did. But before that they didn’t.

Another reason I was content with the hiatus was because despite not having physical releases they were still making new music. They would perform them on Shounen Club or they were songs used as volleyball support ssongs. If you recall they had so many unreleased songs that when they released their first album fans were saying that there was going to be a BEST and 7 version of the album with a rumored track list just because they had enough songs for it. I still think that would have been a brilliant idea, and will never understand why they didn’t do that.

They also have so many unreleased songs that they are still including them in their recent releases. And they have more unreleased group songs like Shin-Gi-Tai and Tobira no Mukou. As well as pretty ancient Hey! Say! 7 songs Brave Story, Nounai Dance, and Kawaii Kimi no Koto da Mono. I actually think all of Hey! Say! BEST’s stuff was released. But I could be wrong.

Also, do you remember Hey! say! JUMP’s Tengoku concerts from 2009? You know the concerts that didn’t get a DVD release. Which I am STILL not over to be honest. And the reason that I, and no doubt JUMP fans everywhere, were angry about this is because this was the concert where nearly every member of JUMP got a special solo. Even Keito and Inoo. Poor Ryutaro only got a dance solo. Chinen and Yuri had a duet. But that’s fine because my beloved Yuto still has his unreleased Uruwashi no Bad Girl solo. So, there’s 8 unreleased songs still! It’s 8 because Ryosuke sang Asia no Yoru. That’s pretty much an entire album worth of unreleased solos. That honestly will probably never get released or see the light of day again. Because they haven’t been preformed since those Tengoku concerts back in 2009.

During this hiatus we’ve gotten nothing really. Ok, we did get a new album and a concert DVD. But I guess I’m a greedy fan because that’s not enough. But you know what, no, that’s not greedy at all. It’s not unreasonable at all to want a new single in a year. I know that male idols don’t match the pace of female idols that release about 4 singles a year. But male idols usually don’t go more than 7 months between a single release without a reason. Hey! Say! JUMP doesn’t have one.

Now, this entire impatient ranting post was fueled by the fact that Hey! Say! JUMP do have a new song. It’s called Come On A MY House and they’ve been promoting it a lot lately.

In their new Vermont Curry commercial.

On School Kakumei.

News reports even showed them performing it at the Johnny’s World Thanksgiving concert.

But I’m angry because despite this, there has been no confirmation about this being a new single. Even though all of these promos started airing on March 30th or 31st. Which was obviously 4 or 5 days ago.

However, I do think that this song isn’t going to be an A-side. I’m willing to bet it’s the B-side to some upcoming new single. Because 1. if it was an A-side they would have made it perfectly clear by now and would have announced it as such during the Johnny’s World Thanksgiving concert. 2. I think they’re gonna pull a Kagayaki Days. Remember how Hey! Say! 7’s Kagayaki Days was used in Hey! Say! 7’s Lotte Fruitio commercial before Hitomi no Screen was even announced? So, it makes sense to do it with this song also. And 3. I don’t want it to be an A-side.

No, seriously I don’t. The song just isn’t good enough. It’s cute and idoly, and a little bit catchy I suppose. But it’s a little more immature than I expected. Coming off of their really mature last single, Super Delicate, this just doesn’t make sense to me. It’s more suited for a fun B-side.

I’m honestly kind of fed up with how they have been treating JUMP. It’s pretty obvious they never really knew what to do with JUMP once they started getting older. It was easy for them to be the young, cutesy, childish group when they were that age, but once they started getting older they honestly didn’t know what to do. They started giving them more mature music, but quickly took that back and gave them cutesy music again. It’s obvious whoever handles JUMP within Johnny’s doesn’t really know what they’re doing. I certainly hope it’s not Julie because she’s can’t even handle JUMP properly, yet she’s set to take over the whole company.

I’m sick of Johnny’s still treating Hey! Say! JUMP as the youngest group. They’re not anymore, Sexy Zone is. It’s really easy to have a song that’s cutesy and fun with a fresh vibe without it being too silly and childish. Arashi and NEWS have always done that beautifully.

I guess I’m just waiting for Johnny’s to get it together and give Hey! Say! JUMP a clear path. And at least pretend they know what they’re doing. I didn’t just spend $50 on a Hey! Say! JUMP calendar that’s only really worth $20 at most, for them to just dissolve as a group.

Is Jin’s song really a hot-button issue?

So, I’ve really been neglecting blogging lately. And I do apologize for that. But in my defense there haven’t really been all that many blog worthy posts, just some general posts that can really be made any time. And because of that I’ve been in full procrastination mode. But when I read about Jin’s new song from his first album, I just had to make a blog post about it. This news is already a day old so you probably have heard about it already. But apparently people have already gotten digital copies of Jin’s debut US album Japonicana and one song in particular has gained a lot of attention. And that song is That’s What She Said featuring Uffie. And can I for a moment say I was pretty interested in hearing their collab. I first heard Uffie’s Pop The Glock around 05 or 06 on myspace and liked it, but I honestly haven’t given her much thought since.
Now the reason this song is getting so much attention is because of the lyrics of the song and how awful they are. Because they are. They are also extremely laughable. And hearing him sing the song made it even more hilarious, especially the chug it part. But you all know I would never make an entire blog post just to point out something as obvious as the lyrics being terrible. No, instead this post is all about my opinions on the fans reactions to the song.

And the fans reactions have been. “The lyrics are awful.” “Go back to Japan and make decent music again.” “The lyrics are misogynist.” “OMG the song is about rape.” “Just because there’s American music that sounds like this doesn’t mean it’s ok for this song to exist.” All I can say to this is, my god everyone takes absolutely everything so seriously. Now, let me explain why I don’t agree with nearly all of this and why it’s all wrong.

First off, this song is not about rape. I know that arama is exploding over the fact that it’s about rape or actually alludes to rape.  Which it does, it’s kind of alluding to it. But he’s also trying to be funny by adding the, now well over used, phrase that’s what she said to the end to imply that the lyrics aren’t really about what you think they are. Just like the lyrics of Trey Songz’ Say Ahh are about drinking even though they seem to be about something else. And Trey Songz lyrics are also basically forcing the girl too, but I’ve never heard anyone complain about that song ever! This is simply Jin trying to be “hard” and emulate the dozens upon dozens of rap and hip hop songs that are about male dominance over women. Now, do I personally like or agree with the fact that songs with such lyrics exists? Absolutely not. But the fact of the matter is they do exist and about 95% of all hip hop artists have a song with similar lyrics. And Jin is merely trying to appeal to that fanbase. This song could be far worse and far more graphic. It’s actually tame compared to some rap songs. And Date Rape by Sublime is a song actually about rape, go complain about that song. (But it’s actually against rape in the end, but whatever.) And before you cry misogyny remember that it’s the 21st century and there is of course equal opportunity. Go listen to My Neck My Back by Khia, How Many Licks by Lil Kim, or Nicki Minaj’s verse in Bedrock. The theme of the lyrics are pretty much the same if you ask me. Why isn’t anyone complaining about those lyrics being offensive to men? Probably because men don’t care nearly as much as women do. It’s just the type of lyrics that hip hop artists make. And if you don’t like it hip hop obviously isn’t the genre for you.

But the fan’s complaints really come from the fact that fans can’t accept that Jin is actually making this type of music. I know this might be hard for some fans to comprehend and you might not realize what’s going on, but brace yourself, Jin is actually selling out for fame. I know it’s so shocking and unbelieveable and I know this is a new concept to grasp, but please try to hold back your gasps. Can you imagine that Jin would actually care more about worldwide recognition, fame, and money instead of being this person who is only loved by really one region of the world with small amounts of fans scattered sporadically across the globe? That he would actually rather make meaningless dribble than meaningful lyrics just to gain acceptence and recognition? Clam down Jin fans I know this is such an utter betrayal to you. I mean it’s like he’s been lying to you all these years. Surely he must be the first person in the history of the world to do this, there’s no way fans should respect him anymore after this.

Now maybe I’m a jaded American, but am I really the only one who doesn’t care at all whatsoever that he’s selling out? Am I the only one who actually excepted this and realizes it is a bit necessary? That I actually would rather seem him succeed here by whatever means necessary? I can’t possibly be! Especially when a lot of Jin fans are from the US or the West. But then, why are they reacting like this? American artists sell out ALL THE TIME. Seriously they do. Remember when Usher was singing about having it bad and now he’s singing about daddy being home? Or when Enrique Iglesias wanted to be your hero but now tonight he’s fucking you? Or how about when Gwen Stefani was just a girl but then was suddenly a hollaback girl? There are probably TONS more but those are just the ones that I remember off the top of my head. I’ll never forget when I first heard Yeah but Usher and being appalled. And I’ll never forget the first time I heard Sexy Back by Justin Timberlake, my sister and I both said, “Why is he trying to soud black?” Or how about today’s popular music in general? Club music is popular so every artist is making that type of music just to sell records and stay relevant. Lately most of the popular American music is about drinking, clubbing, sex, drugs, and how awesome they are. Nearly ever song is about one of those things. And before you cry that not all American music is like this, please note that I said POPULAR music. And yes there is the occasional meaningful song. And we al know that Bruno Mars and Adele are quite popular. But this isn’t about them. This is about the majority of dance music that is flooding the airwaves.

Now, huh, why is it that Jin’s music is club themed with lyrics about having sex that are completely vacuous? It almost seems like he’s trying to make a name for himself by copying whatever is currently popular. No, he couldn’t be doing that. That would mean that Jin is just as manufactured as the American artists that are the reason elitist Japanese music fans stopped listening to American music in th first place. Which I might add is hilarious. I love that Japanese music is meaningful and it honestly is a nice change and a breath of fresh air. But don’t think for one second that means I have abandoned music from my native country and in my native tounge. Absolutely not! And you better believe I gobble up pretty much whatever Pitbull puts out because it is catchy and danceable. Obviously Jin should make the same type of music he made in Japan just to please his Japanese fans and fans of his Japanese music. Obviously most fans would rather have him crash and burn in the US completely as long as he is making music they approve of. That’s completely arrogant and ridiculous. And it makes no sense. You’d think these fans would have their hipster shades all ready for when he becomes popular in the US just to say they knew about him WAY before he was popular. And especially since he was making music in a completely different language you can’t get more underground that than. Obviously that should give you 500 hipster points!

Now I’m going to say something that Jin fans will not agree with but it is 100% true and this is something I’ve said before on this blog, this song is awful but it’s exactly the kind of music he has to make. What is so hard to get?  He’s trying to crack the US market. The US not Japan. Obviously what’s popular in Japan is NOT popular in the US. I think that’s painfully obviously by the fact that if any male idol group performed as is in the US as their debut they would be laughed out of the country! And Jin knows that, he said himself that Japan tends to like ballads while the US likes more upbeat music. Which is why he’s not releasing English versions of Eternal, Seasons, or Murasaki in the US. That’s why you’ll never see him sing songs like care in the US it will ALWAYS be Test Drive. We are talking about a country where songs about being sexy, being licked like a lollipop, and making love in a club were all hits! You have to realize the fact that Bruno Mars, Adele, and Taylor Swift being so popular is really a fluke and not really the norm. If you still don’t believe me go on youtube and watch BillboardGoddess’s videos of the top 50 songs on the US billboard charts, then tell me I’m wrong. (Obviously besides the country music!) Jin even tries to cover up the way he looks. People are saying it’s so people don’t know that he’s Japanese. But I honestly think it’s so people don’t notice how soft the features of his face are. Jin’s a pretty boy and that doesn’t really fly in the US so much, well with acting it does but not with music so much. I think that’s also why Jin has expressed he wants to cut his hair. After reading articles about Jin’s US album it really makes me think that Jin knows exactly what’s up and what he’s doing. I mean Jin has always liked American music. So, of course he has an example of what his music is supposed to sound like.

I’m sure this post is going to get a lot of negative comments, and all I can say is come at me. I firmly stand by everything said here. And let me point out that I am not even a Jin fan, never have been. He’s easy on the eyes that’s about it. And honestly if he wasn’t making an album in the US I probably wouldn’t really care about him at all.
