What I’ve missed, how I feel, and what’s to come

SK

Now that I’m back to blogging you’d think I’d have everything perfectly thought out. And you’d be absolutely wrong. I’m like a chicken with my head cut off. I’m running around here in such a daze. I’m like a coma patient who’s suddenly woke up after 6 and a half months who is trying to catch up to all the news he’s missed in the time he was out. Except I was awake the entire time and remember everything, so I’m not like a coma patient at all. It’s like I was looking into a big window…you know what I can’t even get my metaphors in order how am I expected to quickly get my blog in order? Let’s just say it’s not as easy as you’d think.

I’m at this point where I’m not sure if I’m supposed to address everything I’ve missed or pretend nothing has happened and pretend this is a new blog and I start from day 1. Get your tissues ready, because I’m going to do the second one. Mostly because it’s the easiest option. But don’t fret I am still going to go over some important opinions on the big things that I’ve missed. But it’s going to be extremely watered down. because let’s be honest I can’t fully remember every emotion I was feeling at the time and I can’t remember absolutely everything I should have been blogging about. So, let’s break this down by agency.

Hello!Project:

H!P3

As you know H!P is my first great idol love and absolutely nothing or nobody can touch it or top it. Now, I’m sorry if that seems extremely biased. But at the same time I make no apologizes. EVERY idol fan has that one group or one agency they consider their number one. Since I personally follow about 20 idol groups and cover about 25 on this blog in total, give me a break.

That being said it’s mostly to say that I still have very fluffy warm feelings for H!P. However, I am starting to get extremely bored with H!P’s song being more and more interchangeable. For a while H!P groups had a distinct sound. C-ute was the group focused on intense dancing so you could expect great dances and dance numbers from them. Berryz Koubou was this quirky, funky group that got the songs you’d never expect them to get because of their age. It was the group where H!P really went all out and took risks with their music. S/mileage was this full dose of sugary idol cuteness and fun. And perfectly balanced things out and is also my personal favorite type of music. Buono was this interesting rock sound. Morning Musume is this unique entity where there sound is usually constantly changing. You could have a ska song, a mature song, and a dubstep song in close proximity and for some reason it worked. And then Juice=Juice stepped on the scene and we got this jazzy adult themed group which was a breathe of fresh air.

Now, that’s H!P at it’s best to me. But the current state of H!P is nowhere near that glory. Instead every single group is making the same song. It’s danceable, it’s electronic, it’s probably got some autotune, and it’s absolutely mature. Where’s the variety in that? Every once in a while Berryz will throw us a fun song. But it’s not really enough. And S/mileage’s fun songs like Yattaruchan and Ee ka even sound too mature for a fun song. And who’s bright idea was it to give J=J a bland and too sweet song like Hajimete wo Keikenchuu? And don’t even get me started on how they really need to bring Buono back already.

That’s how I feel about the music. And I honestly feel like everyone else loves the overall sound. But why? Hasn’t the dance thing been done to death in H!P? Sadly, I think we’ve got a few more years of this. So, there’s not much I can do about that. I just have to hope when the 12th gen comes or that other Kenshuusei group were promised ever gets formed they’ll inject some much needed young flare. But H!P and Tsunku like to screw us around because they know where in too deep to really make a stink about it.

MM2

That being said my love for Morning Musume has skyrocketed. Morning Musume has always been my favorite H!P group and lately my love for them has been on full blast. Just because I am so incredibly proud of my girls. They are working so hard and it really shows in their improved singing and dancing. They are also slowing clawing their way back to their former glory. They are getting consecutive number one singles, they are getting more opportunists to perform on music shows. They were on Music Station for God’s sake. They are even singing the theme for the Japanese Olympic team. Like wow they are doing so well. And honestly just thinking about this makes me so so happy for them. That I’ve loved this girls for years, and loved them during what’s considered their lowest point in history, and the masses are finally starting to see what’s so great about them. And I honestly couldn’t be happier or more proud.

Johnny’s:

Arashi2

I honestly can’t remember the last things I said about Johnny’s before I took my “hiatus.” But I can say that my love fro Arashi has exploded, but I’m not sure when it started. But Arashi is my absolute top Johnny’s group now. Standing well above the rest. Completely smashing former NEWS to pieces. Though anyone that has ever read my blog is well aware why that wasn’t exactly a hard thing to do. But I love Arashi so much now that it’s hard to ever think of a time when I didn’t. I have so much love for them that it’s impossible to think of how there was ever a time I liked another group more than Arashi. If this 6 month break did anything it was give me enough time to watch a good chunk of Arashi’s variety shows. Way more than I’d seen before. And that’s where the attachment formed. I now consider Arashi to be on the same level as Morning Musume. And if you don’t know anything about me just know that that is HUGE. I’ve said a few times before if I could only listen to 2 idol groups for the rest of my life I would be completely satisfied with Arashi and Morning Musume being them.

Koki

KAT-TUN, oh KAT-TUN where do I even start about? Did you know they actually lost a member? Imagine that? Oh, it was Tanaka Koki, totally not a big deal at all. Except this was the absolute worst thing to happened to KAT-TUN ever. This was the most devastating lose that Johnny’s has experienced since I became a fan. Who cares if Eggplant, dead fish eyes, poison tongue, and smoke stacks left or where fired from their groups. They all stayed within the agency. Except for chimney but hey we still have his brother who was obviously the real golden boy within the Morimoto brothers. This is Koki we’re talking about. Koki, my beloved Koki. Also known as Tanaka the absolute only reason I’ve ever listened to or cared about KAT-TUN in the slightest Koki. This is a gigantic heartbreak. Koki was one of my favorite Johnny’s members of all time.

And I’ll say it when he was officially fired I did cry. Not full water works. More like I teared up and maybe had a Crybaby moment. (Remember cause he could only cry one tear? No? Go watch the movie then.) It all started with me finding his newest penis pictures released scandal hilarious. Of course right after that legions of fans were whining that this meant the end for him. And with my usual flippant attitude I went, “Nah, that’ll never happen.” Well, someone please remind me to never say that because I’ve never been right about anything ever. (Except calling that Akanishi Jin was leaving KAT-TUN and Arihara Kanna was getting the boot from C-ute)

His firing hit me like a ton of bricks. So, I’m at this weird moment where I have absolutely no reason to listen to KAT-TUN anymore. As you’ll recall I said the same thing about NEWS when Ryo and Yamapi left. But I can honestly say that this time feels different. With NEWS I loved NEWS as a whole first and Ryo second. With KAT-TUN I loved Koki first and KAT-TUN second. So, I don’t know anymore. Hearing his rap cut from the recent episode of Music Station hurt. A lot.

HeySayJUMP

I actually don’t really have anything important to say about the other Johnny’s groups other than: NEWS’ Seven Colors is mediocre and release a new single already! And Hey! Say! JUMP is finally getting a new single, and my beloved Keito actually has a line. Stop the world.

AKB48 and sister groups:

AKB48

I’m gonna be honest with you if I’m not blogging about these groups I don’t pay attention to them that often on my own. I blog about them 90% for my dear readers. As I’ve said 100 times now. However, I do admit I’ve become increasingly addicted to Kitagawa Kenji for the past couple of months. I always thought I just liked SKE48 more than AKB48. But I’ve come to the conclusion that every other group is just better than AKB48. I’m sorry but AKB48 is too used sitting on the female idol throne that they don’t even try anymore musically. It’s SKE48 and NMB48 that have the interesting and fun songs now. Since they are working hard to forge their own name and get out of AKB48’s shadows.

Other idol groups:

Dream5

I have to admit I find it pretty difficult to keep up with the other groups I follow if I’m not blogging about them. Usually I’d have to make sure I checked up on them frequently so I could immediately make a post for my lovely readers. But left on my own I don’t find out about new singles until the PV is out. And I don’t find out about new PVs until about a week or two after they were released. Which is not really good.

MomoCLo

So how do I feel about some of these groups? I’m glad you asked. Momoiro Clover Z is back to impressing me. Coming off of their pretty disappointed 5th Dimension album, their newest single Gounn blew me away. I am in love with absolutely everything about SUPER GiRLS newest singles. I think the songs they chose to cover were perfect, and I of course love that my beloved Ami got her own solo.

Fudanjuku

Surprisingly I’ve been pretty addicted to Dream5. If you recall before I stopped blogging I said how I discovered 3 new idol groups to love, Dream5 being one of them. Well I am absolutely enamored by them. Their music is fun, upbeat, energetic, and happy. I feel completely at ease and in high spirits just listening to them. Hibi Mikoto has become my favorite member because of her adorable voice and her adorable face. She kind of looks like a mouse, but in a cute way. Fudanjuku has become another one of the new groups that I have been following pretty closely. Danso Revolution has be come one of my favorite songs lately. And I am still having confusing and conflicting feels about Seto Kouki.

So, that’s very quickly my thoughts and feelings on some things. So, what’s o come you ask? Well you can still look forward to the same PV reviews, news pieces, over analyzations, and thought out blog entries you’ve come to love and expect from JM over the years. You can also look forward to my December staples, my idol Christmas picspam and my end of the year countdown. This year may be different, but keep in mind I make no promise. Someone on twitter suggested I do a top 100 singles countdown.

IdolSongs

Since there are close to 100 idol singles of groups that I follow released this year. Let’s see if I’m crazy enough to take the challenge.

I also had a good rant about Sakurai Sho and Johnny’s marriage on twitter. I feel like I can expand that a bit and make it into a really thought out blog post. So, if you’ve read the main points already on twitter I’m sorry. But if you haven’t read it yet, come on man don’t seek it out and spoil it for yourself.

NEWS are finally coming back!

After days of a mysterious countdown on Johnny’s special website, Kei-chan’s radio show, K-chan NEWS, has officially announced that NEWS Will be making their comeback. NEWS is set to release a new single, best album, and a concert tour. As of right now the official date has not been set for any of these. Also, the best album is very hands on as fans can vote for their 4 favorite news songs and the 2nd disc of the best album will consist of the top fan voted songs. I’m not entirely sure how that will work. If it will just be the songs in their original form or not. But I’m guessing they will most likely rerecord the songs like they did for the singles on the Pacific album.

I have to say that I am beyond excited that NEWS is finally making their comeback. And I have to admit after months of us fans being strung along I actually did start to think that NEWS would really just fall by the wayside. But I am of course thrilled that, that wasn’t the case. And I felt such a mixture of shock, surprise, excitement, and was generally overwhelmed, that I actually teared up by this news. I have been sticking by NEWS through all of this. Through them not releasing anything for a year, through the rumor of them breaking up, through losing two members, and through the wait of their comeback announcement. I feel exactly like the NEWS fans who waited for NEWS to comeback after their year long hiatus after the Uchi and Kusano scandals. So yes, as a pretty emotional person I was completely overcome with sheer happiness that one of my favorite idol groups are coming back, and teared up. Tears of joy though, akin to the tears of joy I shed when Kago Ai announced her comeback with her Hong Kong movie Kung Fu Chef.

To anyone that reads my blog reguarly I’m sure you’re aware of the posts I made throughout this whole NEWS ordeal, where I was skeptical about the breaking up, and the post where I raged over Ryo’s departure in general. And if you’re not, I suggest you read them if you care. Anyway, in the first post I voiced how I was devastated by my favorite member leaving, and I even said that I wasn’t sure if I was even going to continue to listen to NEWS. But that was all said in the heat of the moment and written a mere 40 minutes after finding out about it. And I have to say over the months I cooled down. I started to be able to listen to NEWS without feeling sad and I realized I could never abandoned NEWS. NEWS is my first JE group, they opened the doors to so many other artists. And I had a lot of good times with NEWS. And NEWS, in my opinion, releases some of the best music in JE. With other JE groups I feel let down by releases, but with NEWS that hardly ever happens. Pretty much the only single I’m disappointed with is Sakura Girl and the only other songs I really don’t like are Let’s Go To The Planets and Stardust, which is pretty good. And NEWS is still NEWS, no matter what change they go through. They stated off with 9 and are now 4, and I’m honestly just as excited for this lineup as I was for the lineups that included Kusano and Ryo. I could never stop listening to them. I know that there are some fans out there that do abandon idol groups when their favorite members leave. But I think that’s just silly. And if I did that I wouldn’t listen to half the idol groups I listen to now, because I’m super unlucky and my favorite members always leave before their time.

I was also really excited that fans get to vote for their favorite songs. I love fans can participate in things like this. A few years ago I voted for Miyavi’s Fan’s Best album. Though it did suck that pretty much every song I voted for didn’t make it into the album. It was still fun to pick nonetheless. I hope my picks fare better this time. The lovely news-jpop livejournal community have translated instructions for voting located here. Voting ends 12/04/30 23:39 JST, so get your votes in while you can.
And if anyone is curious here are my 4 picks.

I gotta tell you it was incredibly hard to pick just 4 songs. But I definitely picked my favorite songs. And I think these 4 songs really show the full spectrum of NEWS songs.

1. Fiesta. Fiesta has been my favorite NEWS song for as long as I can remember. I remember hearing the song right in the beginning of becoming a fan and was instantly in love with the song. There are 2 reasons I love this song. The first being just how catchy and danceable the song is. And the second reason is honestly because Ryo has a lot of lines in the song. But I still really do love the song. I seriously can’t get enough of it. The lyrics aren’t exactly deep. They’re pretty much just about banging someone, but I love this song because of how fun it is. This song really shows NEWS’ dance side.

2. Mafuyu no Nagareboshi. Now, I picked this song 100% because of the lyrics. I absolutely love them they are sapppy and adorable. “The midwinter shooting star is the afterimage of your smile” Whoever doesn’t think that’s sweet must not have a heart. And I love how bittersweet the song is. It’s about the end of a romance, but still wishing the other person happiness. I also really love how the song is sung. It’s very soft and everyone sounds really amazing. Even Shige’s voice doesn’t sound too out of place. It really shows NEWS’ soft ballad type songs.

3. Koi Yake. Koi Yake was so close to losing to Say Hello. Touch is a great album and I really wanted to include a song from it. Koi Yake has always been one of my favorite songs from this album. And after I listened to it again and remembered I loved it because of it’s undeniably catchy chorus, it became obvious to pick Koi Yake. I love this song because it has a nice rock feel to it, which is rarity in NEWS songs.

4. Minna ga iru Sekai wo Hitotsu ni Ai wo Motto Give & Take Shimashou. I’ll never forget when I first heard this song I was absolutely disappointed. I was actually disappointed by the entire Color album when I first heard it. And while I did give the songs a second chance and have grown to love nearly all of them, Color is still my least favorite NEWS album. But I really love this song. I really emcompasses everything I love about NEWS. The song is super upbeat and the lyrics have a postive message. It’s music like this that is the reason I love NEWS in the first place.

Here are my other favorites I unfortunately had to leave out: Beach Angel, Chiraizumu, Say Hello, D.T.F., Alibi, Baby! Be My Baby!, Gan Gan Ganbatte, Smile Maker, Kirameki no Kanata e, Nantoka Naru Sa, Wonderland, and Why. And of course many more secondary favorites I couldn’t vote for either. XD

Akanishi Jin to wed Kuroki Meisa

It was reported in today’s issue of Sports Nippon that Akanishi Jin is set to marry Kuroki Meisa. It is also said that Meisa is two months pregnant. I want to also point out, before fans jump down my throat, that this is technically still a rumor since neither agencies has released an official statement. But since this news is being reported on this morning’s news, we can pretty much assume, with good reason, that this is true.

Now, this is something I did not see coming at all. Of course I’m sure fans are familiar with the article that Sports Nippon reported a few day ago that said Jin and Meisa were seen on a date at Tokyo DisneySea. I’m sure most fans like myself really thought nothing about that rumor. I didn’t really take it as anything more as Jin going out with yet another random chick. I didn’t really think Jin would end up marrying her. I didn’t expect Jin to marry anyone for a while to be honest. Jin’s partying and playboy ways are pretty much all over the place. I mean, his partying with his group of friends is so infamous they are dubbed the Akanishi Troop by tabloid magazines. Not really the person I’d expect to see running off and getting married. Jin seemed to really enjoy the single life. But I guess we all gotta grow up sometime.

While I am a bit shocked, just because how unexpected and shocking the news is, I can’t really say I didn’t see it coming. Because honestly I did. Jin might love to party and bang random chicks, but he still really wanted to be a father. Which he has expressed before. Most recently, and maybe the only time, in this tweet.

So, what’s my personal responce to this? Quite honestly, I don’t care so much. I wish I could say I’m such a dedicated and delusional Jin fangirl that I cried buckets of tears over the fact that he’s actually with a woman that isn’t me. Well, I don’t really wish that because that’s embarassing. I would have written it regardless though, because I don’t care one ounce what anyone thinks. The reason I don’t care at all is because I’m just not a Jin fan. Yes, he’s one of the best looking male idols in all of Japan, but I’m just not really a fan of his. I have absolutely no attachment to him other than the fact that he’s pretty to look at. Maybe if it was Ryo or Koki or someone else, I’d care. But even then I don’t really think I would. I’m not really delusional and I don’t really care about anyone in JE at that obsessive of a level. I do admit, I have had my moments of being an embarassing and semi-delusional fan. When my idols graduate or leave groups I usually cry, and cry a lot. But at least that is something to be upset about. But on the other hand, when Miyavi announced his shotgun wedding I do admit I cried. A lot more then I’m proud to admit. Mostly because this meant I officially had no chance with Miyavi, and a little because he did complain to fans he was super lonely all while he was really married. But mostly because of my delusional moment of weakness. But in my defense I was 16 at the time, and I have been following Miyavi since I was 12. He was one of the first Japanese artists I liked. And I spent 4 years following him in a pretty obsessive manner. But I like to think I have grown up substantially since then. I do get fangirls reaction of crying or being really upset on some level. But I still think it’s completely absurd. Miyavi is the only celebrity I’ve ever really cared was married. Jackson Rathbone announced a few days ago his girlfriend was pregnant, and I didn’t care at all. I didn’t cry a river. I said, “Oh man!,” and that was it. And I do think fangirls reacting like it’s the end of the world because he is married is outrageous. Almost as outrageous as male fans thinking female idols shouldn’t date. But that’s a whole nother subject completely.

I also have to ask the question, where does this leave Jin. I wish I could say where does this leave Meisa too, but this is an idol blog and not a Meisa blog. That and the fact that I don’t care about Meisa. She’s extremely pretty but I have not seen or heard anything by her ever. So, what happens to Meisa does not effect or bother me at all. A lot of people are saying that this is probably the end for both of them. But I seriously don’t see that happening for Jin. But there is apparently a marriage ban within Johnny’s. Apparently when Kimura Takuya announced his marriage 4 people commited suicide and since then you have the marriage ban. I wonder how JE is handling all of this? Jin might be trying to make it in America, and signed to Warner Music but he is still very much affiliated with Johnny’s. He’s still listed on Johnn’s Net and still makes vidoes for Johnny’s Net. Apparently fans take things like this very seriously. But Jin is pretty popular, maybe not SMAP popular, but popular nonetheless. And I don’t see this hurting him all that much. Especially since his next release is his full length American album in March. And that obviously wasn’t halted or anything. It might also be being released in Japan, but it is mainly targeted for the US. So, he’s not going to be promoting much in Japan anyway to really hurt sales. Female fans also seem to react differently than male fans. If female fans really cared about their idols dating then everytime they were caught dating they’d get kicked out like female idols do. And male fans are caught extremely often. The fact that they are not proves that female fans don’t really care all that much. They obviously do care, but not really enough to cause a substantial drop in sales. And it’s happened time after time. Arihara Kanna and Hashimoto Ryosuke scandal, Kanna got kicked out. Takaki Yuya and Kato Rubi scandal, Rubi got kicked out. And those are just two examples.

There is one aspect I do find strange and that is how MIA Jin has been lately. If you follow him on twitter you might notice that he hasn’t posted since October. And his last tweet was him announcing his official youtube channel. I guess you can blame it on him being too busy with Meisa now. But not entirely. If you follow him you might also know that a few days ago Jin tweeted on his brother’s twitter. Which was apparelty done on his brother’s phone, so maybe he was just too lazy to get his own phone. But with this piece of news I wonder if that really was the case. Maybe I’m just over analyzing things per usual.

All in all, I’m happy for Jin. Genuinely happy for him. It seems like he really wanted to be a father and because of that I’m happy he finally is going to be one. I’m not going to be petty and say he’s making a mistake because it’s his life. Yes, the timing sucks as he’s right in the middle of trying to conquer the US. But like I said on twitter, this isn’t really going to change anything because it’s not. Shortly after his daughter was born Miyavi went on a world tour. It didn’t exactly make him father of the year, but it is what it is. And apparently Jin is friends with Miyavi, maybe he can get some tips from him.

Would telling the truth be so awful?

Lying, absolutely everyone in the world does it. Some people on a daily basis. And if they tell you otherwise, well then it’s pretty obvious that they’re lying. However, there are certain people in this world that if they lie to you, you feel a high level of betrayal. When it comes to people you don’t know, it’s usually done by politicians or bankers. But I’m going to my cards on the table and say I feel just as betrayed when my favorite idol lies to me. Obviously idols tell tons of white lies on a daily basis. Mostly for the fan’s benefit to enhance the idol fantasy or overall experience. And most fans don’t mind. They’ll just eat up whatever their idol says. However, I think we can all agree that everyone hates the lies about graduating. If idols are leaving, or withdrawing, anyway, aren’t us fans at least entitled to an honest reason? Other then the vauge I need to continue my studies or the workload was too much.

The worst part is when the lie is so blatantly in your face obvious. Like saying you want to graduate to become a model, but then turn around and join Dream Morning Musume. But there’s no point in talking about past occurrences when there are fresh ones to complain about.

Like with Nishikido Ryo.

When Ryo announced his withdrawal from NEWS I was too devestated to think clearly let alone feel angry about it. But after I thought about it for a bit, it made absolutely zero sense. Being in 2 groups is too hard? First of all, since when? You’ve been doing it for 8 years now. And second of all, how in the world does Buono even exist then? I thought poor Ryo-chan was overworked because he had both NEWS and Kanjani8, he’s in dramas, and is extremely popular therefore in high demand. But then I started to think about the girls of Buono. If anyone is overworked it’s them. But for the sake of comparison let’s just say Suzuki Airi is extremely overworked. Buono has been around for 4 years, which is only half the spand of Kanjani8, and yet Airi is about 1,000 times more overworked.
In 2011 Airi was in 6 different concert tours. Hello!Project’s summer and winter concerts, C-ute’s spring concerts, C-ute’s and Berryz Koubou’s joint fall concert, and Buono’s winter and summer concerts. Airi was in 3 movies: Vampire Stories, Ousama Game, and Gomennasai. Released 2 DVDs: Kibun Tenkan and Natsu Karada. Released 2 photobooks: Meguru Haru and OASIS. Is on the show HelloPro!Time. (and Bijou Gaku technically, but it was only a couple months in 2011) Released 2 albums. A full C-ute album and a mini album with Buono. Released 8 singles. 3 with Buono, 3 with C-ute, 1 with C-ute and Berryz Koubou, and 1 with Mobekimasu. Not to mention the 2 digital singles as part of H!P cover song releases. She was also in a few magazine spreads.
Now, what has Ryo been up to this year that is too much for him to take? He released 4 singles. 4 with Kanjani8 and none with NEWS. He will be apart of exactly one concert tour this year, Kanjani8’s dome shows which haven’t even started yet. He’ll release 1 album with Kanjani8. He is in monthly magazine spreads as both NEWS and Kanjani8 in Myojo, Potato, Popolo, etc. He was in 1 drama, Zenkai Girl. He’s on 3 variety shows, all with Kanjani8 and none with NEWS: Boken Japan! Kanjani8 Map, Kanpani, and Jani-Ben.

All this really proves is that Airi deserves a medal. So how is it that a 17 year old girl can handle doing triple the work of a 26 year old man? It makes no sense. It’s pretty apparent that Ryo wanted out of NEWS for selfish reasons. Which is whatever, it’s his life. I honeslty would not have cared if he just said he didn’t want to be in NEWS anymore. Rather then pretending it’s because he’s too overworked. Because honestly he’s not. If NEWS was active at the same time, then possibly he would be. But since Kanjani8 was the only group active in 2011, how does that even make sense? And why wasn’t it too much for him in 2007 or 2008 when both groups were pretty active? Oh, the inconsistencies!

Another noted liar is Maeda Yuuka.

Now, this isn’t really anything against her personally, it’s just a rant against the “continue my studies” excuse H!P girls have been using for years. And since Yuuka is the most recent person to use it, all my anger at everyone from the past is directed at her. For the time being of course. Because if she honestly would prefer to be a student over an idol, good for her. And if she truly doesn’t to, want not just plainly say it? She’s leaving the agency as well, so she now has zero ties to it. So, even if she says it’s becasue she finds wota to be disgusting, it won’t affect her. But the main reason they don’t honestly say it is because they still want to be idols or in the entertaiment industry, but just not in their group. Just like with Kusumi Koharu who’s now in Dream Morning Musume. Or Hayami Akari who is in the movie Cheerfully, and is in a comedy show. Which to me, honestly, it seems a bit vindictive.
Now, not being able to balance school life and idol life is absolutely 100% utter garbage. Johnny’s idols do it all the time. Johnny’s idols who are far more popular and would have a harder time of being treated as normal students. Koyama Keiichiro, Yamashita Tomohisa, and Inoo Kei are either curently going to or have graduated from Meiji University. Meiji is a pretty prestigious school. Which means most likely the work there is extremely difficult and there’s most likely a big work load. And if that’s still not good enough for you, what about Kato Shigeaki who graduated from law school? Do you realize just how difficult that is for a normal person, let alone for someone who is basically working full time? So, Shige can handle becoming a lawyer while still a NEWS member, but Yuuka can’t handle the entrance exams while in S/mileage? I find that incredibly hard to believe. For it to be true it would have to mean Johnny’s idol are super intelligent beings who never get tired. And H!P idols are frail, stupid little girls who dont know the meaning of time management. I find that incredibly hard to believe. Maybe there have been girls who legit can’t do it. But 6 or so girls have used this excuse. You’re telling me it’s true everytime? Give me a break.

This whole post was extremely obvious, as EVERYONE knows the H!P “leave to continue my studies” reason is a complete lie. But I really needed to rant about this to get out all my pent-up frustration.

The 30 Day Idol Challenge: Day 5

Are guys ready for yet another exciting and riveting instalment of the 30 day idol challenge? I sure hope you are, because that’s what you’re going to get.

Today’s question is: “Your Favorite Group?”

I’ve been saying what my top 2 idol groups a lot lately in this blog, and even during the 30 day idol challenge. So, this shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone.

Morning Musume:

Words cannot properly describe just how much I love Morning Musume. I have never followed any band, group, or artist as closely as I follow Momusu. I practically listen to their music religiously. Since I became a fan 4 years ago I have not gone 1 day without listening to at least one song by them. I absolutely love Morning Musume’s music. As a group that is constantly changing, their music is never the same. And they hardly have 2 songs that really truly sound the same. And no matter what I am feeling that day there’s always a song that expresses it perfectly. They pretty much have a song about everything. If I want to listen to songs about curry, Sukiyaki, pocky, or sushi. They have them. If I want to listen to random songs about pink rainbows, nature being good, or Sindbad. Of course they have those as well. There’s just this infecious and addictive quality to Morning Musume’s music. You cannot help but immediately love it and spontaneously become happy. It is physically impossible to feel sad when you’re listening to Morning Musume. Even if that song is Never Forget. I usally just say how beautiful it is when I listen to it.
And if the music wasn’t enough you add the girls into this equation, and being a Morning Musume fan just seems obvious. I absolutely love love love the girls. They are just incredibly charming and entertaning. I feel a close attachment to them, in a weird way they feel like family. Whenever I see past members I get really nostalgic. Even if I wasn’t a fan when they were members, I just get this feeling of the good old days when they were a member. I love all the members, each one has something about them I like. Even if they aren’t my favorites. The members who aren’t my favorite have never failed to make me laugh or smile. Or feel attached to them in some way. I think Nacchi is completely overrated, but watching her cringe and make sad faces during the Bakajo test made me want to hug her. Sayumi is one of my least favorite members of all time, but watching her cry about JunJun on one of her image DVDs almost made me cry.
Morning Musume to me is what idols are. I don’t care if they are selling 5,000 copies and are forced to sing in parks. I will always be a fan of theirs, for as long as they are together. And even beyond that. I seriously can’t imagine when they break up. I will be absolutely devastated. A world without Momusu in it will shine a little less.

NEWS:

Ah, NEWS. My absolute favorite Johnny’s group and my introduction to all things male idol related. NEWS is of course a group I love because of their music. I think they honestly make the best music in all of JE. I haven’t heard an A-side, B-side, or album song I have absolutely hated. Yes, they are songs I’m not into that much like Sakura Girl or Stardust. But you can bet that when I’m in the mood for it I blast those songs. There are even songs I hated but now I absolutely love. I used to pretty much hate Gan Gan Ganbatte. When I first heard it in a concert I thought, “What in the world is this excuse for a song.” But when I rewatched the concert I thought the song was extremely catchy. The exact same thing happened with Beach Angel. I absolutely hated the random beach theme, but now it’s one of my favorite songs. And when I first heard Alibi, I got about 40 seconds in before I skipped the song. But once I actually listened to it I discovered how amazing it really is. The whole reason I’m into NEWS in the first place is because when I heard their songs they immediately reminded me of Morning Musume. NEWS is the upbeat, positive, and happy group within JE. Pretty much all of their songs are upbeat, positive, and happy. Which is exactly why I love NEWS so much. Even their songs that are about being lonely or sad still have unexpectedly cute lyrics. NEWS is just a perfect idol group in my eyes. Always extremely happy and super positive. They are Johnny’s to me. And going through their recent drama of losing 2 members devastated me. Absolutely devastated me. The perfect Johnny’s group in my eyes was being destroyed and I couldn’t bare it, I still can’t. But NEWS is still around, so of course I’m going to full-heartedly supprt them. No matter how painful it is at first. It’s just going to be weird having people ask me who my favorite NEWS member is. And I honestly don’t know how to answer, because I’m not 100% sure who it would be. Ryo was my favorite. I focused 100% on him, made sure I remembered everything about him. And as silly as it sounds being a Ryo fan, to me, said a lot about me and pretty much defined me as a NEWS fan. I suppose now Shige or Kei-chan is my favorite. They were always tied for second place anyway. I’m getting a little off topic now.
I also love everything about each member. I think they are entertaining. Despite people saying how boring they are. I am always entertained by NEWS. They always made me laugh and always made me smile. Tegoshi doing his horrible impressions and skits. Massu being his overly cute glutinous self. Ryo being the loveable jerk. Kei-chan being the airhead. Shige being easily controlled and easy target for jabs, and making it funny instead of serious. Yamapi not really saying much but still remaining incredibly sweet. Concert documentaries are still my absolute favorite thing to watch. They are always hilarious, and you really got to see how close NEWS is as a group. I must admit the Live Live Live documentary, their last concert as NEWS, wasn’t really that good. And I remember being absolutely disappointed that it didn’t have the fun flare of past concert documentaries. Perhaps I should have seen the withdraws coming then?

Yamapi and Ryo-chan announce withdraw from NEWS

I said I was going to do it, and I did. I was absolutely optimistic until the very end. But in the end, reality catches up to all of us. And now I have to blog about an announcement I never wanted to hear. And announcement I never wanted to admit would happen. It was announced that Yamashita Tomohisa and Nishikdo Ryo are withdrawing from NEWS, and that NEWS will now carry on as a 4 person group. Yamapi said his reason for leaving is to persue a solo career. And Ryo-chan’s reason is it has become to tiring to be part of 2 groups anymore.

Well, I was right about NEWS not breaking up. And I was right about Yamapi’s departure not spelling the end for NEWS. So why aren’t I happy? I am actually as far away from happy as you can get. Devastated is nowhere near a strong enough word to describe how I feel right now. I have such a huge attachment to NEWS that this news has caused such an intense, almost crippling, pain. After I found out I immediately started to cry. Which is one of the few advantages of being a female idol fan. I’m not sure if male fans cry over news like this. But as a fan I developed a relationship with my favorite idols. After following them for so long, and knowing almost everything about them it really feels like we’re friends. Not in the normal sense of the word, but in this odd way that is completely unique to idol fans. So, if anything happens to my favorite idol group or idol that makes it so I can no longer see them, of course I’m going to react as if this was happening to a regular friend. And the only logical responce then is to cry. And I’ve cried many times over idols. I got 10 minutes into Kon Kon’s graduation concert and started crying and have never watched it to this day for that reason. Kago Ai announced she was making a come back in the entertainment world so I cried tears of joy. Arihara Kanna left C-ute I weeped. Kusumi Koharu announced her graduation I was hit with a devistation as strong as I’m feeling now. I got half way through Koharu’s graduation concert before I cried and could no longer watch it. Didn’t even trying to watch Eri’s, LinLin’s, and JunJun’s graduation concert. Crying just seems like an automatic, uncontrolable responce.

Right now it literally feels like there is a giant gaping hole in my chest. I cried for about 20 minutes straight. Even now I am struggling to keep the tears back. And people reading this can mock that all they want. They can think it’s an overreaction all they want. But I honestly don’t care, I’m putting it all out there. People might even think there’s not a reason to cry because NEWS isn’t breaking up. But there obviously is. And I’m not going to sit here and pretend this doesn’t effect me at all, because it does. It effects me a lot. And I’m honestly crying for a number of reasons. I’m crying because I will never see Ryo-chan in NEWS again. (Believe it or not I don’t care that Yamapi is gone.) I’m crying because NEWS will never be the same again. But I’m mostly crying because NEWS as I know it no longer exists, which is the reason I cried so much over Koharu. I cried a lot over Kusumi Koharu because I loved her. She was my absolute favorite H!P person at the time, and still is. I loved everything about her. And for her to go suddenly was heartbreaking. But really the main reason I cried was because Koharu was the reason I knew what Morning Musume and Hello!Project was. The reason I found out about idols in the first place. And it was like the whole reason why I loved idols was disappearing. Which is exactly what NEWS was with Johnny’s. Before I heard of NEWS I literally didn’t know there even were male idols. No, seriously I didn’t. And when I first heard Weeeek it was like I was introduced to a world I had no idea existed. The same way that Dir en grey was my introduction to Japanese music as a whole. I don’t even want to think about what would happen if they broke up.

Right now about 40 minutes have past since I heard about this. And the news is sinking in. I’m starting to accept it now. Well, not really accept because I don’t accept it and never will. I’m pretty much just acknowledging that it happened and there’s nothing I can do about it. Because there’s not. Like I said before, us idol fans are completely helpless when it comes to things like this. I honestly don’t know what to do right now. NEWS is my favorite group, but they are becoming a shell of what they used to be. NEWS started as 9, but is now down to 4. And NEWS to me has always really just been Ryo-chan. He’s the first person I noticed. And instantly become my favorite. When I first got into NEWS people told me I shouldn’t like him because of how much of a jerk he was. I found a video of Ryo saying he hated Ueda and I literally laughed about it. And from that moment I fell in love with tsundere, poison tounged Ryo-chan. And he’s pretty much all I focused on. Yamapi is gorgeous but he’s a little boring to me. And it’s because he’s to nice and softspoken. And hardly ever makes jokes. I cannot stand Tegoshi because of how arrogant he is. Kei-chan and Shige are awesome. But they are only really entertaining together. Alone they are kind of hit or miss. And Massu I’m sort of indifferent towards him. However, together they kind of bring out the best in each other. They are always hilarious moments on TV appearances or concert DVDs.

I can’t even imagine what NEWS being 4 members will be like. Ryo and Yamapi sing a lot of lyrics. And most of those lyrics will not sound as good with someone else singing them. Do you think anyone but Ryo could pull off Code? Or listen to Kei-chan’s high note in Sayaendou comapred to Yamapi’s. It’s nowhere near as good. Shige is the worst singer in NEWS and can barely handle his own lines. NEWS needs Ryo’s deep husky voice and Yamapi’s soft pretty voice. But obviously they don’t have it anymore. When I first became a NEWS fan Fiesta became my favorite song, and it still is. Half because it’s catchy and half because Ryo-chan sings a big chunk of the song. What will Fiesta sound like now? I mean, it’s still not the same without Kusano. But without Yamapi and Ryo, I can’t imagine it.

I can understand that Ryo wanted to leave NEWS. I get it. They overworked him so much, that eventually something had to give. But Yamapi, seriously. I’m sorry if his solo activites are really about the US as well, he’s worse off then Jin. And I have to admit that I am slightly angry at Yamapi and Kanjnai8. But there’s not point in feeling that way. It’s not going to change anything.

I’m not really sure what I’m going to do now. As heartbroken as I am now, and as much as I don’t want to at this moment, I’ll most likely continue to support NEWS as I always have. And of course Yamapi’s solos stuff, and I’ll probably even give Kanjani8 another shot. Well, not another shot. I’ve actually never really cared to even listen to them beyond singles. I never bothered to watch more then a couple of their appearances. Kanjani8 is now officially the only way I get to see Ryo-chan. When he was in NEWS I didn’t have to bother with them because I could just focus on him in NEWS.

The bottom line is this isn’t really the rest of NEWS’s fault. And NEWS is still NEWS no matter what. And I actually have a lot more respect for Tegoshi and Massu now. They could have jumped ship because they have Tegomass. But sticking with NEWS basically just for the fans and KoyaShige, you can’t help but admire them for that. Even though Tegoshi is probably thrilled now. He’ll most likely be the face of NEWS now, and attention whore Tegoshi will love that.

The funny thing is just last night I watched a bunch of old NEWS clips and shows because I had faith in them returning. And I hadn’t watched some of those clips in a while. It’s funny how much can change in a day.

Here are some nostalgic NEWS videos. Well, mostly nistalgic for me.

NEWS’s Weeeek PV, the first song I ever heard by them.

My favorite NEWS song Fiesta.

Kei-chan saying they will be nothing without Yamapi. Which actually isn’t funny anymore. Skip to 8 minutes in to see that part.

I loved this game from the Shounen Club. And love Ryo-chan yelling in Osaka ben.

And my favorite NEWS wo abake.

Part 1:

Part 2:

Share, the song NEWS wrote together.

Just a sad song that kind of sums up how I feel.

And Dreams from their comeback concert. Where NEWS was so happy to be back together they cried. The fans cried too.

Who says NEWS is breaking up?

Yesterday I saw a post on arama that lyricist Shimoji Yu posted a quote unquote criptic tweet that he had some insider information about a group. And he said nothing else about that information except that it was shocking. Here is the translation of that tweet, obvious credits to whoever  translated it because it wasn’t me: “I heard something shocking about a certain group today. I had guessed at it before, though. It’s a shame, but reality is harsh, isn’t it? When I think that this was happening behind closed doors, I feel sorry for the fans. They didn’t get a say…I’m going to bed.”

Now, I thought nothing of that at all. Because 1.) the information isn’t 100% confirmed, and even if he is in the entertainment business I still count it as a petty rumor. If you can even consider it one. And 2.) This information could be about anyone, as he has worked with a lot of different artists. And because we don’t even know what the information is. All he said is it’s shocking. I read the comments on arama and they pretty much already wrote it off as being about NEWS. And I do admit I felt a twing of panic at the mere thought of anything happening to my beloved NEWS. But being forever the optimist, I brushed it off. Now fastforward to today and all of a sudden this yet to be determined shocking insider information has turned into big news, at least within  the fandom anyway. But not only big news, but for some reason this has turned from the information being too vauge to really know who it’s about to absolutely knowing for a fact it’s about NEWS. Yes, I’m afraid, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 it’s big NEWS indeed.

Now, I want to start off by saying that I am a gigantic NEWS fan. Morning Musume and NEWS are my top 2 idol groups, and have been for 3 years now. NEWS are my absolute favorite Johnny’s group in the entire agency. And if old sadistic Johnny made me wait 2 years for another NEWS release I’d sit there and patiently wait. And that’s because I love everything about them. NEWS is the least popular JE group of the younger generation of Johnny’s. And it’s honestly for a number of reasons, which I can’t be bothered to go into now. Most of it is poor promotion. NEWS is also considered by a lot of fans to be one of the most boring JE acts. Which I completely disagree with. Watch any concert documentary or Heyx3 apperance and you’ll be singing a new tune.

With that being said, I also consider myself to be a pretty realistic fan. I know how the business world works, and I know what inner troubles NEWS is facing now. But I also know it’s done just because it’s business as usual. I intended to make a post about NEWS’s popularity, their decline, and  their future, but someone beat me to the punch. And since I didn’t want to steal someone else’s thunder, or be accused of coping, I just didn’t post my half written essay, for lack of better words.

NEWS is no stranger to rumors lately. Recently, I wanna say about 2 or 3 months back, there was a rumor that Yamapi had met with an executive from Warner Music to talk about plans for Yamapi to go solo and debut in the US. I can’t even begin to say how much of a disaster that would be. Jin studied in the US and his English is still terrible, and so is the music from his American tour. And because of that he is destined to fail in the US. Now, Yamapi’s English is even worse. He might have that random French chick who he’s shacking up with, allegedly of course, to teach him English but that hasn’t really helped much. You heard how mediocre his English was when he talked to Seth Rogen. And as for his music, it’s not much better than Jin’s. He wants to lick girls like mayonnaise and make them numb for god’s sake! Also, add all of that with everyone in the JE fandom saying that Yamapi is a terrible singer, I actually like his voice, and that doesn’t really spell success  to me. So, I honestly never really even considered  that rumor to be serious. Especially since Yamapi’s American debut happening  basically right after Jin’s, doesn’t make sense to me. America is made up of only 10% Asian, why would they bombard the country with something they are honestly apprehensive about? But then recently Johnny was reconized by Guinness, and was suddenly talking about wanting to take a JE show to Vegas. And suddenly Yamapi in the US might not be so far fetched afterall.

And Yamapi’s solo possibilites seem to be the main reason why fans think NEWS is breaking up. And if it did happen, I wouldn’t be shocked. But at the same time I don’t think it would mean the end for NEWS. And not even because it wasn’t the end for KAT-TUN after Jin left. No, it wouldn’t be the end for NEWS because NEWS, realistically, doesn’t even need to exist right now. And I’ve said this before. JE is making money off of 4/6 of NEWS outside of NEWS activities. The only reasons NEWS as a group still exists is because on top of the mass amount of money from Yamapi’s solo work, Kanjani8, and Tegomass, JE can still make money from NEWS as well. JE knows that dedicated fans, like myself, would wait however long it takes for NEWS to return. Even with Yamapi gone, JE isn’t stupid enough to stop the gravy train anytime soon. And as for it being because they haven’t released a single in almost a year. That makes absolutely no sense to me. Hey! Say! JUMP did the same exact thing. The release space between Mayonaka no Shadow Boy and Hitomi no Screen was a whopping 15 months. And what was the reason for that? I have absolutely no idea. They didn’t have another group like Kanjani8 to hold them back. And yet, they still had a dry spell for the entire span of 2009. And I don’t remember fans crying that that meant HSJ was finished. NEWS hasn’t released anything in 10 months because of Kanjani8, and fans are in full panic mode. I can’t help but thinking it’s a tiny bit funny.

I honestly think NEWS’s activites were planned to be like this. Kanjani8 is a lot more popular then NEWS, so NEWS has been put on the back burner a lot because of that. Obviously more popularity equals more money. Being smart business people no doubt JE decided to make 2011 the year of Kanjani8. And because it was most likely planned as such, they made sure they let their other cash cows Tegomass and Yamapi do something while their main activities were put on pause. I mean, that honestly makes the most sense. And I think it has to do with JE wanting to strike while the iron is hot. Two or three Kanjani8 members turned 30 this year, with the remaining members not falling too far behind. I don’t really know too much about this, but apparently once JE idols turn 30 they get less priority in idol magazines. Apparently that happened to Arashi recently. So, perhaps Kanjani8 was super active this year because JE wanted to squeeze maximum money from them at their popularity peak while they are still relevant. Maybe, just maybe, it wasn’t part of the diabolical plan to destroy NEWS. But that’s just a suggestion.

I also think the vaugeness of the information has to be called into question. Even if the signs do seem to point to NEWS, you still have to consider that since he didn’t name NEWS specificly, it could be any group he has ever written for. And even if it is NEWS, just because the news is shocking that doesn’t mean that they are breaking up. It could mean that they are breaking up, it could mean that Yamapi is leaving, or it could mean that they are breaking NEWS up and having solo Yamapi, Ryo in Kanjani8, Tegomass, and possibly finally having a KoyaShige debut. All of which would be equally shocking. And all of which the fans do not have a say in. So, why all the conclusion jumping? And why all the cynicism between fans? I do know the phrase, “hope for the best, but expect the worst.” And that is true in a sense. But so is being optimistic until the official announcment is made. Assuming that one will be made, or it’s about NEWS at all.

Now, what am I going to do if this in fact is about NEWS? There’s not really anything I can do. Except humbly accept and admit that I was wrong. As fans, we are completely helpless. We have no say in anything that happens to our favorite idol groups. And neither do the idols themselves. Graduations, auditions, breakups, formations, and how frequently singles/albums are released are decided 100% by the agency they work for. And no amount of fan support, and no amount of fan’s anger towards it, is ever going to make an agency go back on their decision.

But there is one thing I can say for certain, if this is about NEWS I don’t know where this leaves my love for JE. NEWS is JE to me. I might say I’m a JE fangirl, but I’m really more of a casual JE fangirl and a NEWS and Hey! Say! JUMP fangirl. What I mean by that is, I love and listen to all of NEWS’s and Hey! Say! JUMP’s music, and love them as entertainers and idols. As for the other groups it’s basically just their personalities and some of their music. I tried to get into KAT-TUN, but a majortiy of their album songs are terrible. I prefer their singles, and to watch them on varitey shows or music shows. Despite Nishikido Ryo being my absolute favorite JE member, I can’t really seem to get into Kanjani8’s music. Granted I haven’t really given them a chance either. Arashi has some good muisc, but they have been around for so long that catching up would take a long time. And I honestly don’t know if I feel like catching up with over 10 years of music, concerts, and TV shows. It was hard enough with Morning Musume. And I don’t even care about any of the older groups.

I don’t know, right now I’m in such a mixed mood of anger, sadness, and general panic. However, I will remain optimistic until the very end.

Tegomass-Mahou no Melody song and PV preview

NEWS sub-unit Tegomass is releasing their 3rd album, Tegomass no Mahou, on October 16th. And to promote the album the first track off their album, Mahou no Melody, is getting a PV. Recently both the PV preview and radio rip for the song have been released.

First up the radio rip. Which is a little crackly, so I appologize for that. Now, I am hardly a Tegomass fan. Half because Tegoshi and Massu are my least favorite NEWS members. (I’d rather have a KoyaShige duo, quite honestly.) And half because all of Tegomass’s songs sound exactly the same. The singles anyway, I haven’t bothered to listen to any of their albums. And Mahou no Melody isn’t any different I’m afraid. It follows the same bland slow paced love song pattern they always sing. Singing wise, the song sounds incredible. Tegomass harmonize beautifully together. And Tegoshi is one of the best singers in JE, so he could sing just about anything and it would sound amazing. It’s a shame that the music for this song is so bland. I wish I could say that this song sounds like a B-side, but this song is actually a lot more upbeat then some of their A-sides. I just don’t like this song at all. The only time the song actually picks up is the chorus. And even then the song is just medicore. However, this song will most likely grow on me. Tegomass’s songs might be bland, but they end up having incredibly cute lyrics.

And finally the PV previews. About 3 or 4 morning shows have shown the PV preview for Mahou no Melody. Luckily I found a video with all of them mashed together.
I didn’t think it was possible, but I absolutely hate the song but love the PV. Half of the PV shows Tegomass wearing exaggerated, overly colorful, ringleader inspired outfits. While the band behind them are wearing polka dresses and gnome hats. Which is absolutely incredible. I love every minute of it. They are really taking the magic theme and going with it because the PV looks pretty fanciful. The rest of the PV features Tegomass on a random flying machine, that reminds me a bit of the machine in Willy Wonka that shot soap on everyone. (I wish I could remember what it was called, but I haven’t seen that movie in a good 6-10 years.) Which adds to the childish, and magical theme of the PV.
But probably the best part of this whole PV is we finally get a PV with Massu’s red hair. I’m nowhere near a fan of Massu, but he looks the absolute best with red hair. He moves from a 4 to probably a 7 with red hair. He’s still to overly cute for my taste though.

As always you can purchase this album from CDJapan, by clicking the links below.

Tegomass – Tegomass no Mahou[w/ DVD, Limited Edition]

Ryo-chan a plagiarist?!

There’s a rumor going around that NEWS member Nishikido Ryo plagiarized his solo song, Ordinary, from NEWS’ third album Color. Ryo claimed to have written, composed, and arranged this song himself. And yet it sounds strikingly similar to ACIDMAN’s song Slow Rain. People also claimed it sounds like ACIDMAN’s song Free Star, but it sounds nothing like it.

Now this news is pretty shocking to me. Mostly because he’s my absolutely favorite JE member and I’m defiantly in love with him. It’s also shocking because Color was released over two months ago. So why the rumor now? This news also makes me really disappointed in Ryo. I was really impressed that he did everything by himself. As much as I don’t want to believe this, I can’t pretend they don’t sound similar. They sound 80% alike! Ryo is also an ACIDMAN fan so that proves that he really was “inspired” from Slow Rain. But this rumor isn’t going to make me like Ryo less. I would stick by him even if he stole the words, the music, and copied the video!

What is also surprising about this is, it hasn’t broke into Japan yet. If it did everything would have been blown way out of proportions. Ryo would have been sued and it would have been a huge scandal. Maybe he’d even be suspended from Johnny’s. Who knows? That’s defiantly a possibility. It’s also possible that Johnny’s could have taken care of all of this months ago. JE could have given ACIDMAN a cash payout that was sufficient enough for him not to take it to court. Or he could have given ACIDMAN full royalties to the song. Which are all possibilities. And who knows if they ever happened or will happen in the future.

Anyway, here’s the two songs. Decide for yourself if they sound the same. Which they do.

ACIDMAN-Slow Rain

Johnny’s Shuffle Groups?

There’s a big rumor going around in the JE fandom. That allegedly Johnny’s is taking different members from
each group and forming several Dream Units, much like H!P’s Shuffle Groups. Now much like Shuffle Groups these Dream Units are only temporary. On New Year’s Eve there will be an event where all the new units are gathered together then put back into their original groups. Supposedly, NTV and Fuji are battling it out for the television rights. It’s supposedly happening sometime in April, but who’s to say it’s not happening tomorrow. It’s not like there’s an official announcement about this.

I think I’m the only fangirl out there who didn’t have a heart attack over this news. I’m actually excited for this, if it is true at all. But since there are mixed opinions on the whole situation I’m going to list my pros and cons of these alleged Dream Units.

Reason 1: It works at Johnny’s Countdown. Every year at Johnny’s Countdown members are mixed up and thrown together singing other group’s songs. It seems to work fine then, and I’m sure it’s ratings gold. But this time Johnny’s is getting more bang for his buck. Massive amounts of fangirls paying for what they see free on TV every year.

Reason 2: Uchi and Kusano comeback! These shuffle units would be perfect for Uchi’s and Kusano’s comeback. It can test the waters for a comeback, much like Uchi’s solo concerts. It can be a trial period to see if they are good enough to be put back into NEWS. And if they fail it has no repercussion to NEWS at all because it wasn’t NEWS they made look bad. No, it was this brand new Dream Unit.

Reason 3: This could slowly destroy a certain Johnny’s group. What if this Dream Unit consists of the elite of the elite within Johnny’s? If it’s a good enough song and if promoted right the single could potentially outsell Arashi’s single. So what if they decide to focus mainly on this super group and only giving the respected groups their in one or two singles the entire year? This would never happen but it’s a jumbled possibility running through my head.

Reason 4: Just how close are Dream Units to Shuffle Groups? We all know that H!P Shuffle groups went on and main groups still continued to make music. But, Shuffle Groups lasted for the summer and only had one or two singles. Johnny’s is doing this all year! So they could put JE singles on hold and just focus on the Dream Units. Which doesn’t seem very smart and is also unlikely to happen.

Reason 5: Less popular members can be in the spotlight more. Now many idol fans will argue that their idol isn’t unpopular because they are perfect in their eyes. But we all now that’s not true and some idols outsell their group mates by substantial amounts. Now some members can be in the spotlight more than they already are. Rather then “Oh I think I can see him but Yamapi or Jun is in the way.” And I mean really how many solo lines do Shige or Koki really get? Not enough.

Reason 6: It’s easy to juggle two groups, Ryo does it. There’s actually nothing to explain on this one. Ryo is in both NEWS and Kanjani8 and does just fine.

Reason 7: It’s Johnny’s they know what they’re doing. Johnny’s has been around since he 60’s. And practically every single and album they release shoots to number one. If anyone could make it work it would be Johnny’s.

Reason 8: We’re nothing without our leader. Kei-chan said it himself, NEWS is nothing without Yamapi. What if the popularity with his current group mixed with the popularity of this dream units finally gives them the nudge to go solo? Whether they decide it themselves or Johnny’s “suggests” it.

All and all, I’m pretty excited by this. The group possibilities are endless.

You could have Jin and Koki from KAT-TUN, Kusano formerly from NEWS, and Sho from Arashi to make a hip-hop/rap group.
You could have Yamapi and Tegoshi from NEWS, Kame from KAT-TUN, Jun from Arashi and Subaru from Kanjani8 to make an elite vocal group.
You could have TegoMass and Yuri Chinen from Hey! Say! Jump form and cute group.
And so on.

Uchi’s possible comeback

Former NEWS and Kanjani8 member Hiroki Uchi, has just finished his first solo concerts in Yokohama on December 20-21. He will also being doing more solo concerts in Osaka on January 3-4.
Hiroki Uchi was involved in an underage drinking scandal on July, 16 2005 and suspended from Johnny’s. And also was demoted to trainee in December of 2006. Uchi also made his official come back as an actor during the press conference of Isshun no Kaze ni Nare.
It has also yet to be decided whether he will remain solo or rejoin NEWS. It’s obvious that these concerts would decide his fate in Johnny’s Entertainment.

As for my take on the whole situation I have a very distinct opinion, which is I don’t care either way. But if you have to do anything with him give him a solo career. And here’s why.

Reason number 1: Probably the least legit reason of all. NEWS is better as a 6 person unit. It’s been about two years since NEWS came back, so why change now? If they really wanted Uchi or Kusano back wouldn’t they have already? They could have easily let them be on hiatus for a year, like all of NEWS, and had them rejoin in 2006 with a slap on the wrist.

Reason number 2: Uchi isn’t that good of a singer. In my opinion Uchi’s voice is very boring. And I have a lot of trouble even telling when he’s actually singing. His voice fades more into the background. Even his solo lines come off as sounding weird and almost awkward.

Reason number 3: You can’t have one without the other. What’s the point of brining Uchi back without Kusano. They came into NEWS together. They both got suspended for similar reasons. They should both come back at the same time. If you only bring one person back it almost makes it seem like what Uchi did was ok or wasn’t on the same level as what Kusano did. But it was the same crime. So that aspect doesn’t make sense to me.

Reason number 4: Johnny’s is playing favorites. This really seems like a big slap in the face to Kusano. It almost makes it seem like Uchi has been given special treatment. Kusano’s future in Johnny’s has always been very murky but Uchi has had definite plans. He has come back as an actor, while there has been no official word as to what Kusano’s doing. If he wasn’t in Shoentai Playzone with Uchi he wouldn’t have done anything since being suspended.

Reason number 5: If they keep any member it should be Kusano. I can honestly say that Kusano is a better singer than Uchi. If you compare their voices in Teppen or even Fiesta Kusano’s voice outshines Uchi’s. Kusano is a very talented singer and was even given more lines in NEWS than Uchi got.

Reason number 6: Pairing madness. Most fans of NEWS know that the current members of NEWS are paired up for singing and fangirl reasons. The current pairings are RyoPi, KoyaShige, and TegoMass. Uchi being back in NEWS would throw off the whole balance. It really can’t be RyUchiPi. Could it? This reason isn’t really legit either, but it’s just a thought I had.

There is still one aspect I am not clear of. Just how popular is Uchi? Uchi was in both NEWS and Kanjani8. But was that based on vocal ability or just the fact that he was from the Kansai region of Japan. I wasn’t a NEWS fan when Uchi was a member, so I have no idea how popular he was or still is.
There is only one completely stupid and fangir-ish reason why Uchi should return to NEWS. And that reason is Uchi and Ryo were really good friends. And I think Uchi returning to NEWS would make Ryo very happy. I’M LAME!

If Uchi does come back as a member of NEWS, I guess I will just have to grin and bare it. And get used to seeing his bird face again. Sorry Uchi fans, he’s weird looking. But if it was up to me I’d give him the boot. Or excuse me, I mean I’d give him a “solo career.”

NEWS-Color review

NEWS’s 3rd full length album Color was released on November 19th. So here’s my review of the CD. This is my first CD review so I hope it’s good. >_< color=”#006600″>

Track 1: Weeek
I’m sure just about every NEWS /Jpop fan has heard this song before, since it was the first single of the album. This is actually the first song I heard by NEWS so it remains one of my favorite songs by them. Aside from that, this song is very upbeat and happy. The lyrics don’t really go deeper than surviving each day. But the song is really catchy and really fun. And it was number one on the Oricon for 3 weeks or so.

Final rating: 8/10

Track 2: Stardust
At first listen this song doesn’t immediately blow me away. The song is a little generic and forgettable. But the lyrics are pretty, but no one’s voice really stands out. The singing seems bland and boring. Only in the upbeat chorus does it sound like they really tried. This song is good but you shouldn’t go out of your way to listen to it. This song lies somewhere in the middle.

Final rating: 6/10

Track 3: Summertime
NEWS’s 2nd single from on this album. I was defiantly in love with this when this single came out. Mostly because it put me in that fun loving summer mood. But now that it’s no longer summer the song kinda lost the spark that made it appealing. I’m sure I’ll listen to it nonstop in the summer, but the rest of the year not so much. And the lyrics are cute. Who doesn’t want a summer love? And the KoyaShige rap is the best part.

Final rating: 7/10

Track 4: Snow Express
I have been waiting for what seems like forever for this to have an official release. Snow Express is defiantly a fan favorite song, and unlike Summertime the song is listen able in all seasons. Because the song is just that good. And Tegoshi’s and Yamapi’s voices are heart melting in this song.

Final rating: 9/10

Track 5: Forever
This song is very soft and sweet. I can see fangirls going crazy over this song in concert. It’s so cute, wanting to be with someone forever. Because a future without them has no meaning at all. I always fall for New’s love songs cause they are usually so sweet. Also a good chunk of this song is in English. And no surprise TegoMass’s English is the best. It looks like the English version of Miso Soup paid off. As for Yamapi let’s just say he’s needs to brush up on his English skills.

Final rating: 9/10

Track 6: MOLA
Yamapi’s solo song! *faints and dies* This song is sung ENTIRELY in English and all I can say is wow. The lyrics are a bit much. Here are some of the lyrics. “Taste me like you used to I’m ready now” “We’re gettin’ deeper & deeper I’m outta control” “I’ll make you wanna shout just like oh ooo oh ooo” The also used some techno effect over his voice so you can hear how bad his English is. Much like how Kyo, from Dir en grey, would scream every song or line that was in English. And I laughed a bit when Yamapi said shorty and booty. XD

Fangirl Rating: 10/10

Track 7: Kesenai
Tegoshi solo song? Or Tegoshi featuring Ryo and Shige. I can’t really tell if this song is truly a solo song with Ryo and Shige randomly stuck in for backup/harmonies. Or it’s legitimately supposed to be all 3 of their song but Tegoshi just gets to sing practically the whole song. Like it was in Ai Nante. Either way this song is boring and far too slow for my taste. I can’t stand ballads for the most part. Tegoshi always picks terrible solo songs, if this is even a solo song. XD Even the lyrics are boring. And it’s kinda creepy to keep someone’s message on your answering machine.

Final rating: 4/10

Track 8:Ordinary
Ryo solo song! Words can’t describe how much I love Ryo. >_< His voice sounds great in this song. But I’m afraid this song is a bit ordinary. I love the background music to it, it’s very danceable. But the song it’s self falls a little flat. Though the lyrics are so sweet. The lyrics vaguely remind me of Alice Nine’s White Prayer. “Adding color to this boring today” reminds me of “That the world which was dyed grey isn’t real” that’s kind of similar. Just a little bit. But because it’s Ryo he gets extra point. :]
Final rating: 8/10 if someone else sang it 5/10

Track 9:Minna ga Iru Sekai wo Hitotsu Ai wo Motto Give & Take Shimashou
This is the upbeat kinda NEWS song I love. The background music makes it sound like it could be the opening theme to an anime. And at first listen the vocal effects to the chorus surprised me a little, coming off as weird. And Keii’s vocals sounds weird as a whole in this song. I really love how Massu sounds in it. And the first time in a NEWS song Yamapi’s vocals in this song are completely over looked as being the best. The lyrics are mediocre but I still love this song.

Final rating: 8/10

Track 10:Mura Risuto
Another KoyaShige song! I love how their songs are always perverted. First it was looking up a skirt and now it’s looking down a shirt. This song is so perverted and hilarious. And in some odd way I love it! Just like I couldn’t stop listening to Chirarizumu when I first heard it. Haha. But I wonder what could be the follow up to this song?

Final rating: 9/10

Track 11:Taiyou no Namida
NEWS ‘s 3rd single on this album. I always really liked this song because it was slow but still upbeat. And the lyrics were meaningful and trying to be deep. Overall there’s not much else to say about this song. The vocals are good and the songs good. But of course it was, it was a single after all.

Final rating: 7/10

Track 12:Smile Maker
I always love when Yamapi raps because he sounds cute and is the best member at rapping. I’m not sure if I like that the whole song is like rap singing. But I am also pleasantly surprised at how ever one else’s rapping sounds. Because at their Tokyo Dome concert some of them sounded terrible rapping. As for this song Shige actually sounds the best. I think the song is very inspiring. Keep a smile on your face in tough times.

Final rating: 7/10

Track 13:Happy Birthday
NEWS ‘s 4th and most recent single off this album. I’ve been addicted to this song since it came out. I just love the way the song is sung. And the chorus is amazing. The lyrics are very cute. I love how in News song they sing it as if they are singing just to you. And it feels that way in this song. And Ryo starts and ends the song that alone is awesome enough.

Final rating: 8/10

Track 14:Fly Again The final track on the regular edition album. This song is too boring again. Shouldn’t they have tried to go out with a bang? This time it has nothing to do with the fact that it’s kinda slow. The music just sounds flat. And the singing is mediocre. But the lyrics of this song are inspiring too. But this song just doesn’t do anything for more. This song too is forgettable.

Final rating: 5/10

Track 15: The final track on the limited edition album. How bittersweet. And yet this song is slow too. I don’t understand ending an album with a slow song. Ballads don’t keep my attention for long. And aside from the chorus I honesty only half paid attention to it. This song is sugary sweet though. Just as expected. “A love of eternal colors” It’s cute I guess.

Final rating: 6/10

I guess I didn’t expect writing an album review would take so long. All in all, I think this a defiant buy if your a NEWS fan. Even if you’re not a NEWS fan I’m sure you’d enjoy this album too. I don’t think the bonus song along is good enough to really make you want the limited edition. But I’m sure the 32 page book is.

Otanjobi omedetou!

I couldn’t really contain my excitement when I found out NEWS’s new PV was out. The song is obnoxiously catchy. (obnoxious in a good way of course) The members sound so adorable when singing the words happy birthday.

The song as a whole is really good. I love the beat. And I love how it like rap singing. I think Ryo’s solo in the beginning was really good. But Shige’s solo lines blew me away. That’s exaggeration just a little, but I was really impressed. He has improved so much. I used to think of him as the worst singer in NEWS. But now he sounds less terrible and pretty good. I think it’s because Shige’s voice is more suited for certain songs. He shines in Change The World and Sayaendou but lacks vocally ability for songs like Weeeek or Bambina. That’s just my opinion of course.

The PV to me is kind of lackluster. They have had much better videos. I guess after Summer Time’s video I was just expecting more. I find it kind of stupid/annoying that just because birthday=presents everything they hold, and practically everything in the video is a box. I mean is that really necessary. But their are pluses to the video. I love the dance for the song in the middle of the video. I also love when Ryo throws the boxes in the air. Another good part of the video is I think I have finally gotten used to Shige as a blonde, he looks cute with it in the video. But I will miss Tegoshi as a blonde. And it will take a while to get used to Ryo’s and Yamapi’s hair. Hopefully they will change next PV.

Happy Bath Day to you!

NEWS will be releasing a new single entitled Happy Birthday on October 1st. It will be used in the promotion of Kose’s bath products. The photo advertisement was apparently shot months ago. I wonder how long this was planned? Anyway, in the commercial there is a minute preview of their next single. It’s more of a sweet ballad and completely different from their last single Summer Time. What I can hear of the song sounds good, so I am excited to see the video.

Now let’s look at it through the fangirl side of me. When I watch the commercial the first thing that comes to mind is what happened to their hair. I hate when Yamapi’s hair is styled like that. He’s had that hair before and I personally don’t like it. Also Shige is now a blonde. He looked much better as a brunette. They didn’t really do much to Ryo’s hair, it just looks like they cut it a little. But they styled it so it has this annoying flip thing on the side. I’m glad they didn’t change Ryo’s hair much. He just got over his ugly hair phase. XD As for the rest of NEWS their hair is pretty much the same. Except Keii’s hair is styled slightly different.
