Nearly a month ago the full PV for C-ute’s newest single, Kono Machi, was released.
I know, I know, this post is way overdue. And I do apologize. But after seeing the PV preview and how simple the PV was I was so uninspired to write this PV review. I’m actually still uninspired, but it’s been a month and I’m sure my lovely readers have been waiting for this. And I try not to be one to disappoint.
Sadly, after seeing the full PV my feelings towards it have remained exactly the same. The PV is so boring, and so simple, that I honestly don’t even know what to say about it. This PV is literally one of the cheapest, simplest, and most boring idol PVs I’ve ever seen. I know I say that a lot with H!P PVs. Well, actually I say that this is the worst PV in H!P history a lot. But honestly I feel like I have to say that again, because it actually seems completely accurate and not an exaggeration this time. I mean this PV is almost at KAT-TUN’s Ultimate Wheels level of absolutely nothing going on.
The main theme of this PV is walking, which is something we’ve seen before in H!P with Buono’s co.no.mi.chi and W’s Aa ii na PVs. But what made those PVs fun, and actually watchable, was that even though they were poorly made they made up for it by having different places they walked in front of, different outfits, and had different sets for the dance scenes. Well, this song is too slow and doesn’t have dancing, so I’m obviously not really counting that, but you get my point.
In the Kono Machi PV each member is walking on the exact same town backdrop. Which I actually don’t like because the town has this weird block or mosaic look to it, and it makes it look too fake. Buono’s and W’s CG obviously looked more obviously fake, but at least they tried to play it up more that it was real by interacting with things in the background. The Kono Machi PV also has these split screen shots with two or more members, and the way that each of them are cut and pasted together just looks really bad and really cheap.
The rest of the PV is just them sitting in this really drab and washed-out gray room, just sitting on boxes much like in Morning Musume Kanashimi Twilight PV. Which I get that they only included for a little variety because of the lack of dancing. But it just makes an already simple PV look even more simple. Sadly, this is also the backdrop they use for the close-up shots, which was really a poor choice in my opinion.
Much like every simple PV the only thing that it’s got going for it is the girls themselves. And my god do they look gorgeous! The outfits for this PV are probably one of my favorite outfits C-ute has ever worn. Second only to the outfits they wore for their 3rd Love Escalation album jackets. I just absolutely love the marching band-esque type tops and their boots are incredible. Like I wish I could somehow grab them through my computer screen. Everyone’s hair is also really pretty. Especially Airi’s and Nakky’s. And Mai’s blonde hair makes her look super mature. Like, it’s incredible how much she’s grown up.
I think the font forming a town skyline is so a cool effect.
Airi is just killing me right now.
There’s that weird mosaic town that kinda looks like a blanket.
I actually don’t think this hair suits Chisato. She looks so much prettier with a darker shade.
Mai Mai looking so fresh and mature.
I get that the song is called this town, but are we really going to see nothing but shots of the town?
Time for some obviously fake, completely unnatural walking.
Maimi is such a beauty.
Chisa kinda looks like an elf here. It’s the hair! And the fact that he ears are showing. XD
Wow, that hair is working for you Saki.
Cannot get over how mature and gorgeous Mai looks!
You have no idea how annoyed I am that Airi’s earrings say two different things. Lol.
Oh, what a lovely set you have.
I liked it better when Momusu did it.
Those shoes, I need them.
That split screen is just terrible.
This split screen is even worse.
I love how everyone else is doing an idoly poses, and then Mai is just standing there with a blank expression.
I never really noticed before, but Nakky is pretty good at conveying subtle emotions.
Look how pretty and not elf-like Chisa looks with her ears covered.
Love and peace is all Airi is wishing for today. (Get it? Bad Momusu joke.)
Nakky’s smile is super infectious.
