Is Jin’s song really a hot-button issue?

So, I’ve really been neglecting blogging lately. And I do apologize for that. But in my defense there haven’t really been all that many blog worthy posts, just some general posts that can really be made any time. And because of that I’ve been in full procrastination mode. But when I read about Jin’s new song from his first album, I just had to make a blog post about it. This news is already a day old so you probably have heard about it already. But apparently people have already gotten digital copies of Jin’s debut US album Japonicana and one song in particular has gained a lot of attention. And that song is That’s What She Said featuring Uffie. And can I for a moment say I was pretty interested in hearing their collab. I first heard Uffie’s Pop The Glock around 05 or 06 on myspace and liked it, but I honestly haven’t given her much thought since.
Now the reason this song is getting so much attention is because of the lyrics of the song and how awful they are. Because they are. They are also extremely laughable. And hearing him sing the song made it even more hilarious, especially the chug it part. But you all know I would never make an entire blog post just to point out something as obvious as the lyrics being terrible. No, instead this post is all about my opinions on the fans reactions to the song.

And the fans reactions have been. “The lyrics are awful.” “Go back to Japan and make decent music again.” “The lyrics are misogynist.” “OMG the song is about rape.” “Just because there’s American music that sounds like this doesn’t mean it’s ok for this song to exist.” All I can say to this is, my god everyone takes absolutely everything so seriously. Now, let me explain why I don’t agree with nearly all of this and why it’s all wrong.

First off, this song is not about rape. I know that arama is exploding over the fact that it’s about rape or actually alludes to rape.  Which it does, it’s kind of alluding to it. But he’s also trying to be funny by adding the, now well over used, phrase that’s what she said to the end to imply that the lyrics aren’t really about what you think they are. Just like the lyrics of Trey Songz’ Say Ahh are about drinking even though they seem to be about something else. And Trey Songz lyrics are also basically forcing the girl too, but I’ve never heard anyone complain about that song ever! This is simply Jin trying to be “hard” and emulate the dozens upon dozens of rap and hip hop songs that are about male dominance over women. Now, do I personally like or agree with the fact that songs with such lyrics exists? Absolutely not. But the fact of the matter is they do exist and about 95% of all hip hop artists have a song with similar lyrics. And Jin is merely trying to appeal to that fanbase. This song could be far worse and far more graphic. It’s actually tame compared to some rap songs. And Date Rape by Sublime is a song actually about rape, go complain about that song. (But it’s actually against rape in the end, but whatever.) And before you cry misogyny remember that it’s the 21st century and there is of course equal opportunity. Go listen to My Neck My Back by Khia, How Many Licks by Lil Kim, or Nicki Minaj’s verse in Bedrock. The theme of the lyrics are pretty much the same if you ask me. Why isn’t anyone complaining about those lyrics being offensive to men? Probably because men don’t care nearly as much as women do. It’s just the type of lyrics that hip hop artists make. And if you don’t like it hip hop obviously isn’t the genre for you.

But the fan’s complaints really come from the fact that fans can’t accept that Jin is actually making this type of music. I know this might be hard for some fans to comprehend and you might not realize what’s going on, but brace yourself, Jin is actually selling out for fame. I know it’s so shocking and unbelieveable and I know this is a new concept to grasp, but please try to hold back your gasps. Can you imagine that Jin would actually care more about worldwide recognition, fame, and money instead of being this person who is only loved by really one region of the world with small amounts of fans scattered sporadically across the globe? That he would actually rather make meaningless dribble than meaningful lyrics just to gain acceptence and recognition? Clam down Jin fans I know this is such an utter betrayal to you. I mean it’s like he’s been lying to you all these years. Surely he must be the first person in the history of the world to do this, there’s no way fans should respect him anymore after this.

Now maybe I’m a jaded American, but am I really the only one who doesn’t care at all whatsoever that he’s selling out? Am I the only one who actually excepted this and realizes it is a bit necessary? That I actually would rather seem him succeed here by whatever means necessary? I can’t possibly be! Especially when a lot of Jin fans are from the US or the West. But then, why are they reacting like this? American artists sell out ALL THE TIME. Seriously they do. Remember when Usher was singing about having it bad and now he’s singing about daddy being home? Or when Enrique Iglesias wanted to be your hero but now tonight he’s fucking you? Or how about when Gwen Stefani was just a girl but then was suddenly a hollaback girl? There are probably TONS more but those are just the ones that I remember off the top of my head. I’ll never forget when I first heard Yeah but Usher and being appalled. And I’ll never forget the first time I heard Sexy Back by Justin Timberlake, my sister and I both said, “Why is he trying to soud black?” Or how about today’s popular music in general? Club music is popular so every artist is making that type of music just to sell records and stay relevant. Lately most of the popular American music is about drinking, clubbing, sex, drugs, and how awesome they are. Nearly ever song is about one of those things. And before you cry that not all American music is like this, please note that I said POPULAR music. And yes there is the occasional meaningful song. And we al know that Bruno Mars and Adele are quite popular. But this isn’t about them. This is about the majority of dance music that is flooding the airwaves.

Now, huh, why is it that Jin’s music is club themed with lyrics about having sex that are completely vacuous? It almost seems like he’s trying to make a name for himself by copying whatever is currently popular. No, he couldn’t be doing that. That would mean that Jin is just as manufactured as the American artists that are the reason elitist Japanese music fans stopped listening to American music in th first place. Which I might add is hilarious. I love that Japanese music is meaningful and it honestly is a nice change and a breath of fresh air. But don’t think for one second that means I have abandoned music from my native country and in my native tounge. Absolutely not! And you better believe I gobble up pretty much whatever Pitbull puts out because it is catchy and danceable. Obviously Jin should make the same type of music he made in Japan just to please his Japanese fans and fans of his Japanese music. Obviously most fans would rather have him crash and burn in the US completely as long as he is making music they approve of. That’s completely arrogant and ridiculous. And it makes no sense. You’d think these fans would have their hipster shades all ready for when he becomes popular in the US just to say they knew about him WAY before he was popular. And especially since he was making music in a completely different language you can’t get more underground that than. Obviously that should give you 500 hipster points!

Now I’m going to say something that Jin fans will not agree with but it is 100% true and this is something I’ve said before on this blog, this song is awful but it’s exactly the kind of music he has to make. What is so hard to get?  He’s trying to crack the US market. The US not Japan. Obviously what’s popular in Japan is NOT popular in the US. I think that’s painfully obviously by the fact that if any male idol group performed as is in the US as their debut they would be laughed out of the country! And Jin knows that, he said himself that Japan tends to like ballads while the US likes more upbeat music. Which is why he’s not releasing English versions of Eternal, Seasons, or Murasaki in the US. That’s why you’ll never see him sing songs like care in the US it will ALWAYS be Test Drive. We are talking about a country where songs about being sexy, being licked like a lollipop, and making love in a club were all hits! You have to realize the fact that Bruno Mars, Adele, and Taylor Swift being so popular is really a fluke and not really the norm. If you still don’t believe me go on youtube and watch BillboardGoddess’s videos of the top 50 songs on the US billboard charts, then tell me I’m wrong. (Obviously besides the country music!) Jin even tries to cover up the way he looks. People are saying it’s so people don’t know that he’s Japanese. But I honestly think it’s so people don’t notice how soft the features of his face are. Jin’s a pretty boy and that doesn’t really fly in the US so much, well with acting it does but not with music so much. I think that’s also why Jin has expressed he wants to cut his hair. After reading articles about Jin’s US album it really makes me think that Jin knows exactly what’s up and what he’s doing. I mean Jin has always liked American music. So, of course he has an example of what his music is supposed to sound like.

I’m sure this post is going to get a lot of negative comments, and all I can say is come at me. I firmly stand by everything said here. And let me point out that I am not even a Jin fan, never have been. He’s easy on the eyes that’s about it. And honestly if he wasn’t making an album in the US I probably wouldn’t really care about him at all.

Arashi-Wild at Heart PV preview

Recently a Dwango commerical for Arashi’s new single started airing, giving us fans out first glimpse at Arashi’s new PV for their new single, Wild at Heart.

When I first heard this song I was hoping for an extremely fun and old school Arashi style PV. So, I’m really excited that the PV preview so far is leading in that direction. The PV preview is only 15 seconds longs, so the finished product could essentially be anything. But most JE PVs are pretty much exactly like what the PV preview show. Which means we can asume that this is what the majority of the PV is going to look like. Which is honestly fine by me. The PV shows Arashi dancing in ridiculous semi-colorful and semi-shiny outfits. Doing a dance that is in what looks like a disco style. Which will forever remind me of NEWS’s Koi no ABO PV. And they are dancing in front of these shiny beads. Which even though they are extremely cheap, they really work for the PV because the way the lights hits them, at one point it makes it look like glitter is raining down on them. Which is just perfect.
The second half of the PV preview is a little more serious. It shows Arashi dancing in a white room in all black suits on a track that’s moving in a circular motion, ala the Troublemaker PV. It also briefly shows the guys doing stupid and completely unserious dancing, which I absolutely love. And I gotta say, the guys look great in these scenes. Especially MatsuJun looking great in that hat, and Nino looking gorgeous as always showing off his new hair.

SUPER GiRLS PV makes me jump for joy

A about a month ago the full PV for SUPER GiRLS’ title track off their 2nd album, EveryBody JUMP was released.

This PV is incredibly simple, yet I love absolutely every minute of it. I swear SUPER GiRLS keep getting better and better. They are forever flawless and forever underrated. This PV really shows off the charm of the girls. Since the song is called EveryBody JUMP the PV is pretty straightforward and mostly filled with scenes of the girls jumping. But the girls jump in just about every way imaginable. Jumping in the air, jumping over water, jumping out a window, and even jumping over the members themselves. I just find those scenes to be incredibly adorable and entertaining.

Another way the PV grabs your attention is with the close-up scenes. For the most part close-up scenes are rather boring unless they feature your favorite member or that particular member is doing something extremely adorable. But anymore SUPER GiRLS doesn’t have individual member close-ups. Instead they opt for 2-3 members in each close-up shot. Now, it’s probably done to save film. But I actually prefer that they do it like this, because I love the way the girls interact with one another. Usually their close-ups are pretty choreographed so the girls will do certain moves in unison or the girls will hug each other at the perfect moment. I can see people not liking this because you don’t see the girls true personalities shine through enough. But I think they add an additional cute and playful factor to the PV. Which is obviously always welcome.

And  surprisingly I really love the dance. While the moves are still the same old same old simple idol moves, it looks like they did put a bit more effort into the dance. The dance is polished and the moves are cute. But more importantly when you watch the dance you don’t immediately think that it’s too simple. Which is the impression you get far too often with idol dances.

I also think the outfits are really adorable. Of course we have the main blue outfits. That actually kind of look like winter jackets with shorts, but they are cute nonetheless. And you gotta love that once again they are shamelessly copying Passpo’s thing of putting their group colors onto their outfits. The second outfit, which is my favorite of the two, is pretty much just a standard school uniform. Expect instead of skirts they are wearing shorts because obviously they couldn’t wear skirts if they are jumping every 5 seconds. I actually like school uniforms in idol PVs, I never get sick of them.

I love that it’s full force from the get go. And I also love that Ami is front and center.

I’m not really bothered by how simple the set is. I honestly wish more PVs were filmed outside. You can’t beat natural lighting.

So much jumping already. Lol.

I really love moves like this. They really show just how in sync the group is.

Ami is such a cutie. And I never realized how much Ruka really looks like Kashiwagi Yuki.

Jumping high five.

Cute flying move.

Adorable. Especially Rina.

Rino is so cute.

Basketball has nothing to do with anything. But of course they had Reira do it.

Cute.

Love this move.

Adorable Rina.

I don’t get how people can jump like that.

Lol.

Probably the cutest scene in the whole PV.

Fail.

Impressive jump.

All of this jumping makes me think of MomoClo.

Jumping over water is a nice effect.

Peek-a-boo.

Mirei sucks at lip syncing, to such an extent she accidentally stick her toungeout. Lol.

Let’s all jump out the window and die!

Do not want.

Adorable.

I love that Ami flaps her wings. Lol.

Cute.

The moves during the dance break are amazing.

They gave Ruka the longest solo. Seems like they are going to be pushing her a lot more.

Ami is still my favorite though.

So cute.

Hey! Say! JUMP’s new PV leaves me super impressed

The full PV for Hey! Say! JUMP’s upcoming new single, Super Delicate, has recently been released.

After watching the full PV it seems that the PV is just as cheaply made as the PV preview from ZIP showed. The entire PV only has 2 equally simple sets. And yet, I cannot find one fault for the PV. Yes, it’s a cheaply made PV, but it’s done in such a way that you don’t even really notice. The PV is still very interseting and entertaining. And that’s mostly due to the fact that they really used the main set to their full advantage. The main set isn’t really much to look at. It’s basically a giant white runway with these weird abstract, I’m going to call them towers, periodically placed throughout the set. On an all black background with dozens of white lights. And the background and lighting are pretty much cheap sets 101. H!P has done several sets just like that when they can’t afford anything better. And Hey! Say! JUMP probably would have been able to have a better set if they didn’t insist on making horribly cheap PVs for Wonderland Train and Su.Ri.Ru which are have the same awful fanmade feel to them that the Aing – Aishiteru PV did. The set is white so I guess it does have a very crisp and polished feel to it. And it makes the brightly dressed Hey! Say! JUMP pop. But at the same time it’s all white which is bland and boring in itself. But like I said they really do take full advantage of the set by using it in two other ways. The first way is obviously the members walking down it like a runway. Which I actually like because it shows off the members. But it is a little silly when you think about it because it has absolutely nothing to do with the song. And the other way is used for group close-ups. And I gotta hand it to them they really try to fool the viewer into thinking it’s a different set by lowering the lighting. I also really like the close-up set. It kinda of looks like funhouse mirrors but done in a better way.

The dance for this is also incredible. It’s perfectly in synch and the moves are really dynamic. However, this PV doesn’t really show too much of the dance which is kind of sad. And they mainly focus on the worst part of the dance which is the stupid eyes over the face move. And they don’t show the Yamajima move, what’s up with that? I seriously recommend watching their Shounen Club performance of this song if you want to see the dance, they totally killed it. I posted it on tumblr a few weeks ago, hopefully it didn’t get deleted yet.

But much like with any cheap PV the best parts of the PV are the members themselves. They look absolutely incredible. Well, most of them do. I have no idea what they were thinking when they did Hikaru’s, Keito’s, and Inoo’s hair. They look ridiculous. And the guys are wearing 2 outfits that are really great. Suits and more casual outfits. And they are styled pretty nicely for the most part. Expect Chinen’s casual outfit makes him look like a clown, Hikaru’s pants are disgusting in each outfit, and who really wears ascots ever? But besides that they look incredible. Especially my beloved Yuto. He looks amazing in both outfits, and he co-leads the PV with Ryosuke. The amount of Yuto screen time in this PV is amazing. Yes, Inoo and Keito only get like 3 seconds of screen time to compensate for it. But I’m not going to even pretend that I care about that. Yuto hasn’t gotten this much screen time since Mayonaka no Shadow Boy, and I’m going to relish every second of it. Especially since he’ll most likely be taking his usual postion in PVs for their next single, lurking in the back or just off to the side.

They focus way too much time on the title screen.

Ryosuke tries too hard to make and intense face, but it just looks awkward.

He should just focus on looking pretty.

I’m always impressed by this move.

What a great scene. Who doesn’t want to just see their pants?

Ryosuke’s conceited pose.

I don’t get why Hikaru keeps doing his hair like this, as if it looks good.

Cheap lighting 101.

No, seriously it is.

Work it Yuto. XD

Modeling in a PV will forever remind me of Morning Musume’s Onna ga Medatte Naze Ikenai PV.

I absolutely love the close-up scenes set.

Yuto. *O*

Nice outfit, but I cannot stand Chinen.

I like Hikaru’s outfit from the waist up. But what’s going on with the rest? Baggy pants tucked into boots, I can’t even with this.

Cute.

I love Yabu.

Takaki has the best outfit.

Stupid move.

Yuto looking adorable during the dance scenes.

Chinen’s outfit is just awful.

Adorable.

Hot.

Intense close-ups of the towers. It’s hilarious that these abstract pieces get more screen time than Inoo and Keito do. Lol.

Daiki looks so good here.

The sitting down reminds me of

NEWS’s Hoshi wo Mezashite PV.

Yabu’s a cutie.

That hair. o_O

Cute.

And that hair. o_O

At least Keito does have normal hair at one point. He looks cute here, too bad you hardly see him.

Can I just laugh that the group close-ups are split by having Hey! Say! 7 in one group and Hey! Say! BEST in another, like they should be, and that instead they are split by popularity? This group features the most popular members.

What’s up with Hikaru’s pants? Are we in the 80’s all of a sudden?

Adorable.

Oh, Yuto. I love how the mirrors shows a different expression.

Hot.

Hikaru is still cute under all that ugly hair.

Oh look, they finally show the least popular members group full on.

Why do they insist on showcasing their worst move?

Cute.

I don’t get why they show the set floating at the end.

Fairies to release 3rd single

It was announced at Fairies’s Valentine’s Day event that the group will be releasing their 3rd single. The single is currently untitled, but will be released on April 4th.

I really excited to see what kind of song this will be. Fairies are one of those idol groups worth keeping an eye on. They keep trying to make different songs than all the other idol groups out there. And because of that all of their songs have consistantly different from one another. They are also at a pretty high level of song and dance, and I’m really convinced that once they get a core fanbase they’ll be releasing some really amazing singles. Sweet Jewel by far was my favorite single by them. Let’s see if this single can top it.

DiVA-Lost the Way PV preview

A few days ago Avex’s official youtube channel uploaded the short version of the PV for DiVA’s upcoming new single, Lost the Way.

DiVA, DiVA, DiVA, what in the world are you doing? I don’t even know how I’m supposed to feel about this PV. On one hand I absolutely love it. The dark set and equally dark outfits work so well because of the mature and serious nature of their songs. Those scenes also make the close-up scenes with brighter outfits and lights really pop. And overall the girls are dressed and styled perfectly. The gray outfits are grogeous and have a very futuristic and high fashion feel to them. I don’t really like their outfits in the close-up scenes because they are all wearing the same hideous semicircle looking pattern. But everyone looks gorgeous in the close-ups, everyone’s hair styles really work for them. Especially Sayaka, the girl looks amazing.

But one the other hand I hate the PV because of how the new members are treated. I understand that they are unknown girls with no affiliation to AKB48. But they are official members, and they are being treated like the sub-members of S/mileage were. Where they had practically zero lines and were glorified backup dancers. But these members are treated worse. At least with S/mileage they got to sing yeah, fu, and go, and had their own close-ups. These poor girl don’t utter a word and do not get any close-up shots. And they are wearing simple and plan outfits compared to the original members of DiVA. They are being treated just like sub-members, but they are all full time members of the group. It makes absolutely no sense. What was the point in adding them if they aren’t going to use them? I understand wanting to slowly warm up the fans to the new girls, but this is a bit excessive. Yes, you can argue that this is only 1/2 or 1/3 of the PV and we don’t know what’s going to happen. And that is true, we don’t know. But one can assume that the rest of the PV isn’t going to be much better. Unless they have the 1st gen and 2nd gen members switch places completely for the 2nd verse, I don’t see how it could get any better for the new members. I guess that’s also why DiVA is still written with a lowercase i.

Kis-My-Ft2-She Her Her preview

Recently the full radio rip for Kisumai’s 3rd single, She Her Her, was released.

You know, before Kisumai debuted I had this misconception that they only released rock songs like FIRE BEAT. But after they debuted and I started to go back and listen to their old songs I found out that they have pretty much always released the same type of upbeat songs that all Johnny’s groups release. And She Her Her isn’t really any different. But I can’t really say that I mind, because I love this type of idol song. What really draws me to this song is that is sounds like something NEWS would release. The song is really nice. The music is pretty slow paced, but does have a bit of low dance music in the background. Overall it’s really soothing to listen to. And sounds like a sweet sappy love song we’ve come to expect from JE. I also really love Taisuke’s rap parts in the song. I like that the music changes up a bit and adds a guitar riff.

But I absolutely do not like the She Her Her chants throughout the song. The breathy way they are sung come off as awkward instead of sexy and throw off the whole song. They only appear in the beginning and after the instrumental break, but there’s such a disconnect from the rest of the song.

While I do love the happy and sweet sound of this song I don’t really think it’s strong enough to be an A-side. I could see this song much better suited as an album song in their debut album. Especially following their first 2 singles which had strong dance beats.

All eyes on NMB48 in the center of the ring

A few weeks ago the full PV for NMB48’s recent single, Junjou U-19, was released.

After watching the PV I am blow away, I am just utterly impressed and amazed. This PV takes taking cheap PVs and still making them interesting to a whole new level. If you watch the PV you can tell it had a pretty small budget as the entire PV is filmed on the same set. But what this PV lacks in overall set design they make up for it tenfold with striking visuals, costumes, and the overall theme.
This PV has a very cirque du soleil/regular circus theme. In the beginning of the PV the girls are giving some sort of gymnastic powers from what looks like a clown wizard. Which I do admit is a bit weird and outlandish. But that’s pretty much my only complaint I have for the entire PV. The rest of the PV is filled with the girls doing many different types of circus and acrobatic routines. Such as aerial tissu, walking on a tightrope, and bunch of other aerial gymastics. The PV also features flips and other cute cirus performances such as rolling over giant balls and walking down invisible stairs. They even show Sayka almost being fired from a cannon. We obviously never see her actually doing it because it would be really dangerous, and apparently expensive to hire a professional to do it.
The PV from start to finish is just mesmerizing. It’s eye-catching, it’s fun, and incredibly entertaining. There is literally so much going on it’s hard to keep track off it all. There isn’t one scene (besides close-ups of course) where something exciting or interesting isn’t happening. NMB48 just set the bar pretty high. This is one of the most creative and spectacular idol PVs I’ve seen in a long time. It might even be one of the best I’ve ever seen period.
Another big plus of the PV are the costumes. There are about 8-10 different costumes. 4 group costumes and then a bunch of other costumes for each different circus performance. It’s just incredible the amount of different costumes featured in this PV. They really add another interesting element to the PV.

I absolutely love these outfits.

The wizard clown.

Apparently all he has to do it wink and you get magical powers.

I love that girl in the back, she reacts in such a cute way.

I don’t really like the set.

But I do like the dance.

These metal boxes remind me of the metal boxes Arashi used during their Scene tour.

I love aerial tissu so much.

Impressive.

I wish Sayaka wasn’t the only one wearing a hat. It makes the outfit to be honest.

The more I see Nana the more she looks like Nakky to me.

Human hamster wheel.

I’m Genie for you boy. Sorry, this reminds me SNSD’s Genie outfit way too much.

Of course they had too add some fanservice.

Cool dance move.

She’s pretty and I love her makeup.

She kinda had weird teeth, but she’s a cutie.

Pretty.

I don’t get what this group roll is all about.

Simple illusion, but still pretty cute.

I don’t really like these outfits, but I love that they say their nicknames on them.

Adorable.

I love these outfits.

Lol.

I love everything about this outfit. The hair is just perfect.

Wow, doing a flip on a tightrope. I am completely impressed.

Hot.

Flying jellyfish. That’s kinda lame.

Is that a guy?

I guess he’s a clown, wizard, and a mime.

Lol.

I love how in sync they are.

Dramatic walking.

Words cannot describe how much I love these outfits.

It sucks that Sayaka only lays in the cannon.

Yamapi-Ai, Texas PV preview

Recently a PV preview for Yamapi’s upcoming new single, Ai, Texas, was released.

After watching the PV preview I have mixed feeling about the PV. The first half of the PV preview shows Yamapi walking in front of some really cheap and poorly done GC backgrounds. You should never watch a PV and have your first impression be, “Well, that’s obviously fake.” The PV also doesn’t have any dance scenes so Yamapi makes up for that with some really ridiculous hand movements. I was literally waiting for him to throw up the Daigo cross rock hands, but then I remembered that was Tegoshi’s thing.

The PV isn’t really all bad, towards the end of the preview we see Yamapi in a bar setting. It’s not really super interesting, but I actually couldn’t tell that it was fake. And I do like the filter effects on that scene. It reminds me a lot of his Hadakanbo PV. And of course he’s looking as gorgeous as ever. But he really needs to work on his English, I had no idea he was saying don’t you think so until I watched this video. Perhaps he should spend time actually studing English with his random French chick.

Thoughts on SDN48’s Makeoshimi Congratulation

I wanted this post to be a simple PV post, really I did. I figured like most of my PV review posts I’d write a little about it but not spoiling my full reaction until the full PV was out. But after watching the PV review, I couldn’t settle on just that.

After watching the PV preview I’m angry, literally angry. But not for the reason you might think. I’m angry because this song and PV are amazing. The song is cute. It’s typical idol music soft and sweet. So unlike what their past A-sides have been like. And the PV is just as adorable. The girls are wearing too cute for words school uniform looking outfits that look like something AKB48 would wear. And I’m wondering why in the world weren’t they releasing singles like this all along? I know SDN48 are supposed to be a mature adult themed group, but I prefer them when they are cute. And it works for them. Their version of Everyday Kachuusha was amazing. And Awajishima no Tamanegi is my favorite song by them. And I also have to wonder, would they be disbanding if this was their theme? Why was’t Aki-P thinking of this in the first place?

Doesn’t Aki-P try to do what other idol groups aren’t doing, and that’s why AKB48 is so successful in the first place? And doesn’t he also like to make some of the music about controversial societal matters like teen suicides caused my bullying, teenage sex, and even being a lesbian like in SKE48’s Kataomoi Finally PV? Then why did he have it so backwards with SDN48? SDN48 is toted as being this adult themed idol group, but am I the only one who took that  at face value and didn’t immediately think that meant being overly sexual? It didn’t really have to mean that, and  I think that’s 100% the reason that SDN48 wasn’t as successful or popular as they could have been. SDN48 was an adult group with adult members, I really wanted them to be an idol group who’s members just happened to be adults. And honestly that would have been enough. They would have been pushing boundaries and going against the social norm just by being over the normal “idol age.” And that would have gained them a lot of older female fans. And probably female fans in general would want to support them because they would see themselves in them. Making another group based on male fantasy perpetuates the fact that Aki-P only really cares about male fans. AKB48 and their sister groups may have a lot of teenage fans, but that’s basically accidental. In the sense that they really aren’t marketing to them all that much. Aside from lyrical content and the girls doing things in fashion, it’s mostly for male fans. (Excuse me if I’m forgetting some other ways they are marketed towards females.) It proves that female fans are indeed just gravy to add to the obviously male dominated fanbase. And it’s whatever, I normally don’t mind being in the minority. But this is one the rare occasion where catering to a female audience would have helped them in the long run.

And if SDN48 still needed a sexy flare to their image, they could have went for it while still having their core female fanbase remain. Because all they really needed to do was add a flare, a touch, a pinch, a small amount. They didn’t have to go for such an obvious sexy image. You absolutely do not need naked body silhouettes and bathtub scenes to be sexy. The phrase less is more is completely true. I’m not attracted to girls but I’m going to assume that showing minimal skin is just as alluring. It’s the tease, it’s the “will they or won’t they” aspect that would be tantalizing. I’ve watched a lot of shows on fashion and they all say the same thing, “less skin is sexier than more skin.” A dress that’s low cut in the back, an outfit that shows your stomach peeking through, a dress that only shows your shoulders, or a high slit that shows your legs. All of those are sexy while still remaining classy. And I’m not saying that SDN48 are classless or sleazy, because they obviously aren’t. I’m just saying you can be sexy another way. And as a female fan I was turned off of them for that reason.

Maybe it’s asking to much for a female idol group to market themselves to female fans. I mean, you don’t see JE making their groups more male friendly. But I just find the whole SDN48 disbanding thing a bit sad, because there was potential in there for them to be amazing and sell a lot. It just really feels like they were tossed aside without really getting a fighting chance.

Also, here’s the PV preview.

KAT-TUN-Lock On PV preview

Recently a PV preview for KAT-TUN’s Lock On, a track from their upcoming album Chain was released.

Can I just say that I wasn’t expecting this album to get a PV. Mostly because JE groups don’t really release PVs for album songs unless they are Arashi. I know KAT-TUN did release a PV for No More Pain, but it seemed like they only did that so they could garner more interest in the album since the album didn’t feature Jin. He was off doing his pre-departure solo concerts. They did also make a PV for the album song You, but that was done to also sell more copies since it was the last album Jin was featured in before he left to study in the US. Obviously KAT-TUN has always revolved around Jin.

I wish I could say that I was impressed or even interested in this PV, but I’m not, not even a little bit. The PV is just so simple and unimaginative. KAT-TUN has released a lot of similar looking PVs in the past, but lately they are taking it to a whole new level. And it honestly feels a bit like deja vu. This is the 3rd PV to feature KAT-TUN dancing in all black with a basically solid white background. The other 2 PVs are of course Ultimate Wheels and Run For You. This is the 5th time they danced with a white background, they other 2 PVs not mentioned before are Signal and Ultimate Wheels. And again with the black outfits! Am I the only one who is sick of KAT-TUN always wearing black in their PVs? This is the 10th time KAT-TUN has worn all black in their PV. Those PVs are: Bokura no Machi de, Star Rider, No More Pain, Run For You, Birth, Ultimate Wheels, Change UR World, Rescue, and One Drop. Not to mention the PVs who’s outfits are nearly all black: Lips, White Xmas, The D-Motion, and half of the Real Face PV. I guess JE really wants to emphasize that KAT-TUN has a cool image. But black in nearly ever single PV they’ve ever released is a bit much. And frankly, I’m sick of it. Surely there’s another way to get their image across clearly. But even though they are dressed exactly the same that they always are, I admit I do like the outfits. But that’s because they’re wearing suit jackets. A pretty straightforward polished look.

The PV also does try to have a storyline, but it’s a little strange and a lot stupid. It focuses around the members of KAT-TUN being in love with robots. But I’ll go deeper into my comments about that aspect of the PV when I do my review of it. The only real plus for this PV so far is how fine Koki looks in it.

Yamapi-Ai, Texas preview

Recently the full radio rip for Yamapi’s upcoming singles Ai, Texas was released.

I’m really surprised with the way that this song sounds. It’s so not like something Yamapi would make. And not even because lately he’s been releasing electronic dance music. The song is just so unYamapi, if that even makes sense. It just doesn’t really fit his voice. But I actually do really love the overall sound of the song. The music is this very soft sort of ballad like rock music. But the whole reason I love the music is because it sounds like something Buono would do. It sounds fairly similar in style to Take It Easy by Buono or even 1/3 no Junjou na Kanjou. (and yes, I am well aware that Buono’s version is a cover.) Also the last line’s of each verse where he changes the pitch and extends the lines sounds exactly like what Momoko does at the end of her lines in the verses of Buono’s Independent Girl.

But, I think the chorus of this song throws off the flow of the song entirely. It’s one of the only times in a song where the chorus isn’t the best part. It just sounds really awkward. There’s this weird echo effect on his voice that makes it sound really odd and creepy. And the same time it makes the chorus sound super serious and corny.

But favorite part of this song by far is Yamapi’s speaking parts. I’m just a sucker for when he speaks in songs. His speaking parts have always been my favorite parts of NEWS’s Bambina and Akaku Moyuru Taiyou. What can I say, Yamapi has a hot voice.

Akanishi Jin to wed Kuroki Meisa

It was reported in today’s issue of Sports Nippon that Akanishi Jin is set to marry Kuroki Meisa. It is also said that Meisa is two months pregnant. I want to also point out, before fans jump down my throat, that this is technically still a rumor since neither agencies has released an official statement. But since this news is being reported on this morning’s news, we can pretty much assume, with good reason, that this is true.

Now, this is something I did not see coming at all. Of course I’m sure fans are familiar with the article that Sports Nippon reported a few day ago that said Jin and Meisa were seen on a date at Tokyo DisneySea. I’m sure most fans like myself really thought nothing about that rumor. I didn’t really take it as anything more as Jin going out with yet another random chick. I didn’t really think Jin would end up marrying her. I didn’t expect Jin to marry anyone for a while to be honest. Jin’s partying and playboy ways are pretty much all over the place. I mean, his partying with his group of friends is so infamous they are dubbed the Akanishi Troop by tabloid magazines. Not really the person I’d expect to see running off and getting married. Jin seemed to really enjoy the single life. But I guess we all gotta grow up sometime.

While I am a bit shocked, just because how unexpected and shocking the news is, I can’t really say I didn’t see it coming. Because honestly I did. Jin might love to party and bang random chicks, but he still really wanted to be a father. Which he has expressed before. Most recently, and maybe the only time, in this tweet.

So, what’s my personal responce to this? Quite honestly, I don’t care so much. I wish I could say I’m such a dedicated and delusional Jin fangirl that I cried buckets of tears over the fact that he’s actually with a woman that isn’t me. Well, I don’t really wish that because that’s embarassing. I would have written it regardless though, because I don’t care one ounce what anyone thinks. The reason I don’t care at all is because I’m just not a Jin fan. Yes, he’s one of the best looking male idols in all of Japan, but I’m just not really a fan of his. I have absolutely no attachment to him other than the fact that he’s pretty to look at. Maybe if it was Ryo or Koki or someone else, I’d care. But even then I don’t really think I would. I’m not really delusional and I don’t really care about anyone in JE at that obsessive of a level. I do admit, I have had my moments of being an embarassing and semi-delusional fan. When my idols graduate or leave groups I usually cry, and cry a lot. But at least that is something to be upset about. But on the other hand, when Miyavi announced his shotgun wedding I do admit I cried. A lot more then I’m proud to admit. Mostly because this meant I officially had no chance with Miyavi, and a little because he did complain to fans he was super lonely all while he was really married. But mostly because of my delusional moment of weakness. But in my defense I was 16 at the time, and I have been following Miyavi since I was 12. He was one of the first Japanese artists I liked. And I spent 4 years following him in a pretty obsessive manner. But I like to think I have grown up substantially since then. I do get fangirls reaction of crying or being really upset on some level. But I still think it’s completely absurd. Miyavi is the only celebrity I’ve ever really cared was married. Jackson Rathbone announced a few days ago his girlfriend was pregnant, and I didn’t care at all. I didn’t cry a river. I said, “Oh man!,” and that was it. And I do think fangirls reacting like it’s the end of the world because he is married is outrageous. Almost as outrageous as male fans thinking female idols shouldn’t date. But that’s a whole nother subject completely.

I also have to ask the question, where does this leave Jin. I wish I could say where does this leave Meisa too, but this is an idol blog and not a Meisa blog. That and the fact that I don’t care about Meisa. She’s extremely pretty but I have not seen or heard anything by her ever. So, what happens to Meisa does not effect or bother me at all. A lot of people are saying that this is probably the end for both of them. But I seriously don’t see that happening for Jin. But there is apparently a marriage ban within Johnny’s. Apparently when Kimura Takuya announced his marriage 4 people commited suicide and since then you have the marriage ban. I wonder how JE is handling all of this? Jin might be trying to make it in America, and signed to Warner Music but he is still very much affiliated with Johnny’s. He’s still listed on Johnn’s Net and still makes vidoes for Johnny’s Net. Apparently fans take things like this very seriously. But Jin is pretty popular, maybe not SMAP popular, but popular nonetheless. And I don’t see this hurting him all that much. Especially since his next release is his full length American album in March. And that obviously wasn’t halted or anything. It might also be being released in Japan, but it is mainly targeted for the US. So, he’s not going to be promoting much in Japan anyway to really hurt sales. Female fans also seem to react differently than male fans. If female fans really cared about their idols dating then everytime they were caught dating they’d get kicked out like female idols do. And male fans are caught extremely often. The fact that they are not proves that female fans don’t really care all that much. They obviously do care, but not really enough to cause a substantial drop in sales. And it’s happened time after time. Arihara Kanna and Hashimoto Ryosuke scandal, Kanna got kicked out. Takaki Yuya and Kato Rubi scandal, Rubi got kicked out. And those are just two examples.

There is one aspect I do find strange and that is how MIA Jin has been lately. If you follow him on twitter you might notice that he hasn’t posted since October. And his last tweet was him announcing his official youtube channel. I guess you can blame it on him being too busy with Meisa now. But not entirely. If you follow him you might also know that a few days ago Jin tweeted on his brother’s twitter. Which was apparelty done on his brother’s phone, so maybe he was just too lazy to get his own phone. But with this piece of news I wonder if that really was the case. Maybe I’m just over analyzing things per usual.

All in all, I’m happy for Jin. Genuinely happy for him. It seems like he really wanted to be a father and because of that I’m happy he finally is going to be one. I’m not going to be petty and say he’s making a mistake because it’s his life. Yes, the timing sucks as he’s right in the middle of trying to conquer the US. But like I said on twitter, this isn’t really going to change anything because it’s not. Shortly after his daughter was born Miyavi went on a world tour. It didn’t exactly make him father of the year, but it is what it is. And apparently Jin is friends with Miyavi, maybe he can get some tips from him.

Arashi-Wild at Heart preview

The full radio rip for Arashi’s upcoming new single, Wild at Heart, was recently released.

When I first listened to this song I did not like it at all, but literally by the time I was halfway through with the song I was into it. And I admit the song is a little strange. But at the same time it’s so Arashi like. The music has this retro feel to it. I can’t exactly pin point when, but maybe the early 70’s sometime around there. I really love that this single is happy and upbeat. Lately Arashi has been releasing a lot of mature songs, which is fine but this is my favorite kind of Arashi. I just love how this song is so unserious this is honestly one of the best Arashi songs in a while. It has a really fresh sound. It’s super fun and addictive. Songs like this remind me why I love idol music so much.

I am really looking forward to the PV now. I’m hoping for something along the lines of Happiness or Kitto Daijoubu. I also hope that Arashi will release more than 2 singles this year. That 9 month gap in 2011 was awful.

Momoiro Clover Z-Mugen no Ai PV preview

A PV preview for Momoiro Clover Z’s up coming new single, Mouretsu Uchuu Koukyoukyoku Dainana Gakushou “Mugen no Ai”, has been released.

When I first saw pictures of MomoClo wearing their futuristic pirate outfits I had no idea what to expect from the PV. I did not for a minute expect we’d get just that, futuristic pirates. (Which I should of because apparently that’s exactly what the anime is about.) And as always, MomoClo takes a completely random concept and makes it work. The preview shows MomoClo riding on bicycles through the asteroid belt and riding through something that looks like it’s supposed to be a wormhole. We also see them dancing on the moon in front of their spaceship.
I absolutely love this PV, Momoiro Clover Z are one of those idol groups that never let me down. The main reason why this PV is so great is because it isn’t cheaply made. They could have gone S/mileage’s Shortcut route and just used a moon set. But the fact that they didn’t it what makes this PV awesome. So far at least. It looks like they spend some money on making the space background, and it shows. The  asteroids and the nebula look pretty realistic.
And I have to say even though they are riding on bicyles through space this is probably the most mature they’ve ever looked or sound in a PV. Of course this PV still has the random, silly, and upbeat flare that makes them, them.  But I’m just getting this mature vibe from their dance scenes and close-ups.

Hey! Say! JUMP-Super Delicate PV preview

A PV preview for Hey! Say! JUMP’s upcoming single, Super Delicate, was just released.

I am a tad biased here, but the PV looks absolutely perfect. It just looks incredible so far and so much better than I was expecting. After I saw the covers I knew that the PV was going to be good, but it looks better than I imagined. Just amazing. The guys look super goreous in it. Well, most of them do. Chinen’s outfit is ridiculous and Inoo has this weird hair going on. But other than that there aren’t really any faults. The dance set is a little bit boring, but the abstract white pieces on the sides do jazz the space up a bit.

This preview is insanly short. And since it is a preview and a short making of we only really get to see the dance. Which is incredible I might add. The sharpness of it and the precision is just amazing. But the last 20 seconds of the preview does play some more of the PV in the background, and you can see that the PV is more than just dancing. Their close-ups seem to be in this glass room and there are also scenes with them wlaking on a runway.

But hands down the absolute best part of this preview is the amount of Yuto in it. I don’t really hide that Yuto is my favorite member of JUMP on this blog. And I couldn’t be happier that Yuto is the co-center. I honestly had my doubts he would be since they neglected him in the song. It’s about time he’s in the spotlight in JUMP again. A few years ago Yuto used to be everywhere and was in the center all the time. But over the years Chinen has slowly been taken over his 2nd place position. Which I of course can’t stand. But at least he’s front in center for this single.

Was S/mileage’s new PV really worth the wait?

A few weeks ago the full PV for S/mileage’s recent single Chotto Matte Kudasai was released.

After the absolutely incedible and adorable PV that was Please Miniskirt Postwoman, I was expecting a lot from this PV. But sadly it didn’t really live up to expectations. The PV was extremely cheaply made, and it seemed to be one of those PVs that were relying more on the girls’ personalities to sell the PV. But it didn’t really work this time. Mostly because the set was too bare. The reason PVs that Pvs like Hatsukoi Cider and Sekaiichi Happy Onna no Ko worked was because there was more going on than just the sets. Hatsukoi Cider had intersting angles and editing effects, while Sekaiichi Happy Onna no Ko completely utilized their set completely and made it fun by showing each rooms next to each other as they panned across the set. Which was very similar to Perfume’s One Room Disco or even Hey! Say! JUMP’s Mayonaka no Shadow Boy. But in Chotto Matte Kudasai they just stayed in the same Anataboshi-esque set for the entire PV. The close-up shots even look like they were filmed in the exact spot as their positions in the dance. Which is really cutting corners.
While I do love S/mileage to pieces and find them to be really adorable and down right charming in this PV, I do need a little something more from this PV to push it over the top. They used the exact same format as they did for the Tachiagaaru PV. And let’s be honest it didn’t work at all for that PV either. And we all know how I was dissapointed by that PV.
Also, I have to take a minute and talk about the dresses. Oh, the dresses. From the minute they were first shown fans have been comparing them to Morning Musume’s Onna to Otoko no Lullaby Game dresses. And I can’t really blame them, they do look strikingly similar. Obviously they aren’t 100% the same. The shape and the overall silhouette of the dresses are different. But they are about half similar as they are both pretty ugly and are just solid colors with white accents. I personally do not like either dresses, but what do I know? We should see what Dior thinks of them. If Dior sees them now they can still replicate them in time for Fall Fashion Week.
Now, I can’t completely rip this PV apart because the director of the PV did attempt to add some interesting scenes. But sadly, those scenes weren’t really cutting it for me either. There are these scenes were the members are multiplied about 5 times which are kind of cool, but they would probably be a lot cooler if they didn’t remind me of Berryz Koubou’s Dakishimete Dakishimete PV. And then there are the scenes I just don’t get. And those are the scenes were S/mileage hits the “screen” and then slowly slides down as if they are raindrops or flies. I just have no idea what that’s about.
But throught all of this there are scenes that I do like, and that’s the scenes were the members are writing on the board. I don’t know, I just think those scenes are adorable. And they are very Buono-esque.

I might as well get the dress comparing out of the way.

Decide for yourself if they are similar.

Kana is so adorable.

I should also get the set comparisons out of the way.

It looks pretty similar to Milky Way’s Anataboshi set.

Don’t get it. XD

The dance is a little weird.

Kanana times 10.

Reminds me of Dakishimete Dakishimete though. Also Chu Natsu Party.

I think Meimi looks cute with bangs. I don’t get why fans care so much that she changed her hair. The girl is 13, she’s got years of new hairstyles coming.

Ayaka looking cute as usual.

I do like this dance move though just because it’s so sharp.

I’m trying so hard to like Akari, but I just don’t see her appeal.

Kanon’s adorable pouty face.

So Kanon’s winning or? I don’t get these scens at all.

I just adore Rinapu.

Cute.

Umm, moustache move? o_O

And chicken move? This isn’t Pyoko Pyoko Ultra.

So lovely.

Rina is such a cutie.

I don’t like that they make Kana intentionally off in the dance. For what reason? To make fans root for her more or something? It’s completely pointless.

Adorable! *O*

This move is cute.

But WTF is up with this move. Seriously.

I love how happy Kana always looks.

Sleeping beauty.

Super cute.

I mean Kana definitely needs to improve, but she is in synch with the other girls.

Cute.

It’s cute that Kanon is losing against herself at tic-tac-toe.

Lol.

I love how serious Meimi is trying to look.

Kana’s face plant is the best.

Hair flip.

Mei Mei overracting again.

This move. XD

Only Meimi is falling. Lol.

New idol message board, Pure Idol Heart

The good people at another idol centric blog, Pure Idol Heart, have recently created their own message board by the same name. Now, the message board is pretty bare right now because it’s brand new. But, I implore anyone out there who is intrested in idol music to check it out. The message board is dedicated 100% to idols and features well known groups like Hello!Project groups, AKB48, Idoling!!!, 9nine, SUPER GiRLS, and Passpo. To indie groups like Afilia Saga East. And every idol group in between! Pretty much if it’s an idol group this message board features them. This message board is also 100% user created. While the main topics were created by the board’s creators/moderators Gaki, Candy, and Mei.ka~, the actual topics and the group’s member’s sections are up to the message board posters themselves to create. Giving idol fans the option to create the sections for their favorite idols and idol groups. There are also Idol Village and Idol Underground sections. Idol village is for any well know known idol group or soloist that is not a part of H!P or the 48’s that have been left off the message board. Just leave a reply and the moderators will see to them being added to the list. And Idol Underground is for Indie and lesser known idols. There are no predetermined threads for the Idol Underground section so you can simple start a thread for them.

I know people might be turned off to join a message board that is brand new, or might even be hesitant to join if your favorite group doesn’t have a topic yet. But, you should really poke around a bit and see what the site is all about. And if no one is posting about your favorite group or idol, then sign up and be the first one to do so. And I’m sure with excited idol fans this message board’s community will be able to fill up in no time. I personally have been working on filling up the Hello!Project section. So, maybe dedicated idol fans like yourself can join and help this forum blossom into a big community.

This is the first message board I have found that is dedicated 100% to idols. Most other message boards are dedicated to one specific agency and then have sub sections for other idol groups. And a lot of times those sections for other idol groups aren’t really as active as they could be. They tend to get somewhat neglected since most of the posters are focused on whatever agency or group that specific board is mainly dedicated to. On this board since it’s for idols, and doesn’t have one specific idol group it’s dedicated to, each group can get the full attention they deserve. This message board just makes it so much easier to talk about idols especially if you like multiple idol groups from multiple agencies. Or at least, this forum will be able to do just that once it starts gaining members to post and make it flourish.

So, if anyone’s interested in checking out the message board here’s a link to it: http://z13.invisionfree.com/Pure_Idol_Heart/index.php?act=idx.

Morning Musume announces Risa’s graduation single

Morning Musume recently announced that they will be releasing their 49th single which will be the last single to feature Risa. The single is titled Renai Hunter and will be released on April 11th. Risa will be getting her own special version which will featured a solo cover of a past H!P song.

A lot of fans were worried that Pyoko Pyoko Ultra was going to be Risa’s graduation single. But it was pretty obvious that they would be able to squeeze out one last single. And they are. And Risa is getting her own graduation version so Risa fans can stop whining that it would be unfair if she doesn’t get one too.

The new single makes me pretty excited, the title just sounds amazing.  It sounds like it will have a very powerful, mature, and cool image. Which I would love since a song like that would suit Risa perfectly. But judging from the title they could still make it a very cutesy song. So, obviously it’s far too early to tell.

Another exciting aspect of this is just what song is Risa going to sing. Is it going to be Mr. Moonlight since it was her debut single? Or will it be Suki na Senpai since it was the 5th gen’s song on their first album? I was thinking it might be Manatsu no Kousen since that song just screams Risa to me. But she already did that song for Hello!Cover so I doubt it. Then I was thinking it could be Never Forget since that also screams Risa to me, but Yasuda Kei already got that song for her graduation single. Maybe it will be Yuugure Sakusen Kaigi since she sang it at the Rival Survival concert. They did say a cover of an H!P song, so that makes me think it’s not going to be a Morning Musume song. What do you guys think her cover will be?

Arashi to release a new single

It was recently announced that Arashi will be releasing their first single of 2012. The single is entitled Wild at Heart and will be released on March 7th. The song is being used as the them for Matsumoto Jun’s drama Lucky Seven. There it is the March 7th date yet again. This makes it the 4th idol single to be released on March 7th. It’ll be exciting to see the race to number one.

I’m really excited for Arashi to be releasing a new single. I’ve been on somewhat of an Arashi kick lately. I’m really starting to see why they’re so popular. I’m looking forward to hearing what the song sounds like. The drama is already using the song, but I cannot find it anywhere. So, if any thrifty Arashi fan can point me in the direction of the song it would be much appreciated.

Momusu spreads their wings in new PV

Recently the full PV for Morning Musume’s newest single Pyoko Pyoko Ultra was released.

So, I watched the PV and I gotta say I love it. I mean I really love it, 100% love it. And why do I love it so much? Because it’s absolutely perfect! And that is an extremely unpopular opinion because everyone seems to hate it. But I will defend this PV until the end of time because it is better than I could have imagined.
The PV is everything I’ve been hoping for since becoming a fan. The PV is energetic, it’s childish, it’s happy, it’s carefree, it’s just got such a youthful flare. It’s just beautiful. And because the PV is so childish it’s overflowing with cute scenes and close-ups of the members. Now, I don’t know about you personally dear reader, but I prefer my idols to be overly cute and dorky. I want my idols to bring a smile to my face because they are acting so stupid and dorky. I want their music to be so fun and happy that for 3-4 minutes everything else disappears and I’m just in this happy idol induced mood. Now, maybe everyone doesn’t like music like that, but then why are you really an idol fan? Every single idol group, including Johnny’s, releases music like this. It’s pretty much the idol sound. If you’re looking for a more mature look or sound perhaps you should try a group that isn’t made up of teenagers. Stick to Koda Kumi or Kpop I guess. But even those artists still release happy songs and videos occasionally.
But for me, this PV works on ever single level. Let’s start with the outfits. Oh, the outfits. By now they are Morning Musme’s infamous chicken costumes. Most fans dislike the outfits because they feel that only the younger members pull them off. And I do admit I was the same way at first. But after watching the PV ever single member pulls them off, every single one. The 9th and 10th gen obviously pull them off because most of them are so young. And Sayumi was born to be overly cute. But everyone else is working them too. Aika has been acting cutesy lately so her performance in the PV is seamless. Risa is just being her normal self and she’s pulling it off. I’m actually most surprised by Reina. I didn’t think she would be able to do it. But she is just so cute and lively in the PV. Everyone just looks so adorable and charming. But most of all they look natural. Not one member falters or looks embarrassed. And when everyone is working the outfits and looking absolutely adorable, you begin to look at the outfits in a whole new light.
The dance: Now since this is the 10th gens debut, this dance had to be at a pretty low level. Especially since only Ayumi and Haruka are at a high level of dancing. But honestly the simplicity of the dance works because of the childish nature of the song. And just watching the dance you can tell it’s meant for children. And their are a lot of moves that I can tell children will be excited about and want to emulate. I mean most of the moves are spinning around, jumping, flapping your wings, and doing jumping jacks. You can’t really get anymore kid friendly then that.
The set/theme: As I said in my post about the PV preview the set and overall theme for the PV is absolutely perfect. It is seriosuly like a children’s book coming to life. And there are also scenes that look like a children’s puppet show. And it’s just perfect. Now, some of the effects on the set are pretty cheap, but that doesn’t really matter so much. You hardly even notice it to be honest. I was focusing on how cute each members interaction with the set is. Watering the set, playing with the clouds, and cutely dancing in front of it. It just works completely. And I love when their heads are in the set, to me it seems like they are supposed to be eggs or something. But my absolute favorite part of the set is the Rube Goldberg Machine. To me nothing screams childhood more than one of those. I remember when I was a kid I used to watch a TV show called Zoom and once a month or so they would build one of those machines and then at the end of the month they would finally reveal the finished machine. And when I was a kid I always wanted to make one of those. So, to me adding one of those just brought back a really nostalgic feeling.

The dance set is a little cheap, but whatever.

And it kind of reminds me of SM Entertainment’s dance studio. XD

I love this jumping leg move.

Jumping jacks. You can really feel the kid element.

Guru guru. Also, tell me this doesn’t look like a life size pop-up book.

Of course they have a wing flapping move.

Cheap effect.

Adorable.

Masaki is my favorite 10th gen girl, and I’m so proud of her. She always looks nervous when she’s on TV, but she did great in her close-ups.

Why such an extreme close-up of Riho? Her face his cut off half the time.

Adorable. And I love Risa’s long eyelashes.

Lovely Mizuki.

Ayumi needs to work on her close-ups.

Reina looks so bright during her close-ups. Probably because her eyes look bigger than usual. Lol.

I love the little spin Erina does. But I obviously can’t cap that. XD

Sayumi looking as cute as ever.

Kinda weird dance move. Lol.

Cute bouncing heads.

Another random move.

Is that 10 to show how long Risa has been in Momusu? Because she bows right afterwards.

I absolutely love Aika. Aika haters gonna hate.

Cute.

The unofficial leader of the 10th gen is getting hardly any attention.

Zukki! My god she is so cute! *O*

I love the jump move.

Adorable.

Super cute.

Double wink!

Rube Goldberg Machine FTW.

I think  Ayumi is trying to rival Momoko’s creepy close-up faces.

So lovely.

I love Aika’s duck lips.

How cute.

Awww.

I’m not exactly sure what Risa is doing, but she looks cute doing it.

Cake and Zukki’s bright smile.

Adorable.

Everyone being goofy.

So cute.

DoriMusu shine in new PV

A few weeks ago the PV for Dream Morning Musume’s first, and apparently last, single Shining Butterfly was released.

If there was one word to describe this PV that word would be gorgeous. Just absolutely everything about this PV is beautiful. The low lighting the PV is shot in is extremely flattering. And it’s a nice contrast to the somewhat brighter lighting for the dance shot and close-up scenes. The set is also really beautiful. Even though it is just shot in a cabaret club, they really make full use of the setting. They use basically every single room of the club. The bar, the couches, the runway, and the stages are all used evenlly throughout the PV and in perfect intervals. Which is a big improvement of most of the UFA made PVs. They usually rent an entire place but end up only using very little of the set. But using every room really makes for an eye catching PV. And having a clear storyline makes the PV engaging from start to finish. Which is another thing UFA PV have been lacking lately, clear stories. In this PV in a very short amount of time they managed to paint a clear picture. Rika was feeling heartbroken over a guy. Even when he was obviously with other girls she was pathetically clinging on to him and lashing out at anyone standing in her way. But in the end her friends manage to snap her out of it and she ultimately doesn’t give the guy the time of day once her comes crawling back. They are hostesses in this PV so I’m not really sure how true their love was to begin with, but it’s a great and powerful storyline nonetheless. It shows the bonds of friendship between women. It also shows you how you shouldn’t let a man treat you however he please and you’re better off without him. Which is a pretty empowering message.
Now, let’s talk about my favorite parts of the PV and my not so favorite parts, starting with the outfits. I have pretty mixed feelings between the outfits. The hostesses dresses are obviously absolutely gorgeous and the girls look incredibly stunning in them. But I absolutely despise the dresses in the dance scenes. They are poorly made and extremely cheap looking. In that aspect the PV really reminds me of Onna to Otoko no Lullaby Game. Where you had one outfit that was stunning but then the other outfit you questioned why they were even used. Another part of the PV I really liked was how Yuko was used in this PV. I love that she was the owner and played an almost mother like character. It was completely fitting for the first leader of both Morning Musume and Hello!Project. The parts of the PV I didn’t like aren’t so much that I didn’t like them, it’s just that they surprised me. First off, I don’t get why Rika is the start of the PV. And not because I don’t like Rika, I actually do like Rika. She’s not my favorite but I have nothing against her, it’s just surprising she’s the star of the PV when it’s pretty obvious that Nacchi is the most popular Morning Musume member. Maybe it’s because Rika has a more sexy image and that’s what they were going for in the PV. Another aspect of the PV that surprised me was Ai-chan. Obviosly I knew she was going to be in the PV, she was in the PV preview. But I’m finding a hard time justifying why she was even in the PV at all. She appeared for about 10 seconds in total. And I did not get what the symbolism of Ai-chan suddenly turning into Rika was supposed to even mean. I do realize that it was just a small cameo because Ai-chan has been such an important member pretty much since she first joined. But they used her in such a way that she was completely unnecessary.

Random member walking.

I think I’m one of the few Morning Musume fans who just does not care about Nacchi.

You know it’s gonna be a simple dance when they start out with a slow hip swing.

Look how prett the set is.

Gorgeous Koha.

Horrible dance move.

Spirit fingers.

Forever alone Rika.

Yuko carefully watching over. I love her role in this.

I have to admit Nacchi does look pretty cute here.

Gorgeous.

That two timer, well actually three timer. Though I would probablt choose Koharu over Rika too. And I absolutely adore Kei-chan.

Rika looks so stunning in this PV.

Yuko sees what you did there.

Check out Mari. Everyone just looks so perfect in this video.

Kaori looks so lovely. They don’t show her nearly enough.

Again, I love Yuko’s character.

And Yuko still looks amazing. Not bad for almost 40.

So heartbreaking.

Tough break, Nacchi has the ugliest dress.

Huge Koha fangirl here, but she does seem a little out of place.

Of course Yossie is the one to slap her.

So pretty.

Slight Kaori bias, but tell me she doesn’t look stunning. And it wouldn’t be a UFA PV without using some cheap beads in the close-up shots.

They remind me of the beads from Happy Summer Wedding to be honest.

Gorgeous Mako.

My god, just absolutely gorgeous.

And for no reason at all there’s Ai-chan.

Walking on a runway.

Suddenly I’m getting flashbacks to the Onna ga Medatte Naze Ikenai PV.

I don’t get why Ai-chan transforms into Rika.

Friendship.

Love the intense look Yuko gives.

Hands off the merchandise.

Owned.

Hey! Say! JUMP-Super Delicate preview

Recently a short radio rip of Hey! Say! JUMP’s Super Delicate was released.

I gotta tell you, I love this song more and more every time that I hear it. The music is just absolutely perfect. It blends heavy dance music with some salsa influences thrown in. It honestly sounds like a mix between Over, Beat Line, and Shinku. I love that the beginning of the song starts with a really sweet and soft note from Ryosuke, accompanied by equally soft music. And I also love that that soft music lingers for a few second as the heavier music of the verse builds. For the most part the song is sung very softly which is a great contrast to the heavy dance instrumental. And it does lighten the song a bit. And of course the chorus of the song is amazing. The music and singing really pick up, and there are a lot of great extended notes. The song has a very mature sound and it also sounds very passoniate. Like the members are singing this with a lot of emotion.
The only thing that could make this song absolutely perfect is if the line distribution was even remotely fair. Yet again the only person that gets a solo is Ryosuke. Hey! Say! JUMP has 10 members, I’m really getting sick with just hearing one of them. Pretty much every other Johnny’s group lets the other members get lines. Except for Kisumai, but even then it’s 3 members that get lines. Yes, Ryosuke is an amazing singer, but he’s not the only amazing singer in Hey! Say! JUMP. Takaki’s voices is absolutely perfect for this type of song. And if you listened to Beat Line you know that Hikaru’s and Yuto’s are also perfect for this type of song. It seems like whenever Ryosuke is in a drama they use it as an excuse for him to get all the solo lines. I think the infamous Hitomi no Screen proves that. But the real ridiculous part of this is that both Ryosuke and Yuto are in the drama. I get that Ryosuke is the lead, but Yuto gets nothing for being in the drama too? It’s really getting stale only hearing one member. What’s wrong with having another song as fair as Arigatou ~Sekai no Doko ni Itemo~? Well, even in Arigatou Inoo, Keito, and Ryutaro were shafted. But 8/9 would be a massive improvement.

SUPER GiRLS first casualty: Eri to graduate

It was recently announced that SUPER GiRLS member Akita Eri will be graduating from the group. Eri will graduate on February 5th after the group’s Chouzetsu Shoujo 2012 Memorial concert. Eri is graduating to focus on her studies and will be entering a university after graduating high school.

I can honestly say I didn’t see this coming at all. I actually never see any surprises coming. Whenever anything unexpected happens all of my posts start off with, “I wasn’t expecting that.” XD As naive as it sounds I really didn’t see this coming. SUPER GiRLS is a fairly new idol group I didn’t expect for a member to be leaving so soon. I guess maybe we might be seeing a 2nd generation of SUPER GiRLS following suit soon. I would love to say that I doubt that would happen, because I really doubt it will. But I also thought the same thing about Passpo and look where they are now.
The one thing I can say about this is I am not really all that sad about Eri leaving. I know close to nothing about the members of SUPER GiRLS as fansubs are pretty much nowhere to be found featuring them. And since my knowledge of the group is extremely limited my favorites are based on the girls that stand out the most performing, and that’s honestly not Eri. She actually tends to fade in the background a lot. While I can’t say that I am going to miss her as an idol, I do wish her the best of luck in her studies.

AAA to release 31st single

It was recently annouced that AAA will be releasing their 31st single. The single is entitled Sailing and will be released on Feburary 22nd. Which seems to be an extremely popular date for idol releases for some reason. 3 singles and 2 albums are being released on that day.

I’m always really cautious when AAA releases a new single. AAA is type of idol that you can never really tell if their single is going to be a hit or a miss. They are completely a group where I have to hear the song before I’m excited for the single. I thought Charge & Go was an amazing song. It was a little bit all over the place, but that’s what I loved about it. However, I thought Lights was completely boring and far too simple. So, it’s honestly hard to tell if this single will actually be worth while. I guess I’ll just remain intrigued about a new single rather than excited.

Kitahara Sayaka-Hajike-Yo preview

Recently the Inazuma Eleven Go anime started airing, giving us our first preview of Kithara Sayaka’s upcoming 3rd single, Hajike-Yo.

I love to poke fun at Sayaka a lot on this blog, because I’m not a huge fan of hers. And because her singles have never really left a deep inpression with me. But color me surprised, but I actually really like this song. I’m not even sure why. The music sounds just like 100 other anime ending themes. But there’s just something about this song I find so appealing. The song just has this really fun and cute feel to it. And Sayaka’s voice works really perfectly for this type of song. The odd tone in her voice blends beautifully with the music. And there are some parts of the song where her voice sound great and even adorable. The song might be mediocre at best, but it’s the first song by Sayaka I’ve actually really liked.

C-ute-Kimi wa Jitensha Watashi wa Denwa de Kitaku preview

Recently a radio rip for C-ute’s upcoming new single, Kimi wa Jitensha Watashi wa Denwa de Kitaku, was released.

When I first heard this song and saw that it was a ballad I was a little disappointed. I’m sure everyone is well aware by now, that I don’t really like ballads. I’d honestly prefer to idols to make hyperactive, energetic, upbeat songs 24/7. Which is obviously not possible. And because of that I was initially disappointed by the song. But only initially. Once I started to really listen to the song and listened to it a few times I really started to like it. I actually do appreciate who it is a break from their recent upbeat singles. The sound is very soft and soothing. It really is a refreshing song. I also appreciate that this song is any old ballad with bland music. No, instead the music is the best part of this song for me. I love that it’s a soft rock song. You know, something you’d hear on the Monster Ballads compilation album. The song really does have that 80’s rock ballad sound. And I absolutely love that about this song.

Are new members really what Passpo needs?

It was recently announced that Passpo is looking to add new members to the group. Right now their are 8 candidates up for full member status. Passpo is going to accept at least 1 member, but it is still possible that all 8 will be accepted making Passpo a 17 member group. Passpo’s next single will include a voting ticket for fans to choose which member they want to add. And the new member announcement will take place at Nakano Sun Plaza on March 31st.

Now, after Kaho graduated I didn’t think for one minute that they would be getting more members. Passpo seemed like a pretty stable group. And a fairly large one with with 9 members now that Mushu is gone. Since Kaho wasn’t exactly popular I didn’t really think that Passpo would really be taking a huge hit in popularity. And it’s not like the members of Passpo are getting too old by idol standards. They youngest member is 16 and the oldest is 20. Passpo is at a pretty good place, since the older members won’t have to worry about being told to graduate for another 4-5 years. So, the question then is: why are they even adding new members?

Usually when idol groups add new members it’s because of necessity. (Well, idol groups besides AKB48 and their sister groups) They add new members because members are leaving, like it was in S/mileage’s case. Or they add members because the current members are getting too old, like it was with Morning Musume. It seems like Passpo is adding members to increase their popularity. Which I don’t really think is the right way to go about it. It’s obvious that Passpo’s management is looking for a new girl or girls that will be at the level of popularity as Mio and Makoto are. Which is why they are going the very AKB48 route and asking fans to pick. But are a group of Mios really enough to make the entire group popular? I don’t really think it works that way. An idol group has to reach a certain popularity level before one member will determine how much the group sells. If your group is only selling around 45-50,000 copies, like Passpo does, it pretty much shows that even the most popular members aren’t influencing the sales that much. You’d have to sell around 100,000 or more for any one member to really matter. Case and point KAT-TUN. KAT-TUN for a while, before Jin left, was selling a lot of singles. Over 300,000 copies sometimes even over 400,000 copies. Making them the 2nd most popular Johnny’s group at the time. The last single with Jin sold 439,736 copies and the first single without him sold 255,618 copies. A difference of 184,118. Which is a substantial drop. Now, let’s say Mio and Makoto left the group tomorrow. I’d say we’d see about a 25,000 maybe 30,000 drop in Passpo’s sales. If it’s even that. I know they are the most popular members, but are their fanbases really even that large? I think it’s giving them too much credit. But for the sake of arguing let’s say it is. Now, that’s a pretty big drop, considering what they sell now. But if Passpo as a whole was a more popular group a loss that size is nothing. Well, the number of Mio and Makoto fans would also increase, but you get my point. Being the most popular member of a group that hardly sells isn’t that big of a deal.

Let’s say Passpo does find this amazing star member, she’ll at most increase their sales by about 20,000. So, that would bring Passpo’s sales up to about 70,000. Which still isn’t a very large number. Right now Passpo seems to be selling roughly the same amount for each release, they aren’t really growing beyond that. The only way to do that is to build the group itself up. To make the group gain interest to have them continue to steadily gain fans. Keeping the same amount of fans as the release before isn’t really progress.

Yeah, adding members might give the group some media attention for the time being. But once the new members are added the media will pay as much attention to Passpo as they always do, which isn’t really all that much. The only way for Passpo to actually sell more is to work for it. No idol group magically started selling a million copies. AKB48 is at the level they are at because of constant work. TV shows, radio shows, fan involvement, and brilliant marketing. The only way Passpo, or any other idol group for that matter, will ever follow suit is to do the same. Obviously with their own unique take on it. Maybe having the fans vote is something you’d expect from AKB48, and maybe it even seems like a rip off, but whatever helps the group, does it really matter? In the current AKB48 dominated idol world it’s hard for any idol group to not get swallowed up by them. Maybe AKB48 like tactics will entice new fans, but it’s the aspects of the group that aren’t like AKB48 that will keep the fans.

The management said that they are also trying to improve Passpo. To make their events and lives better. To get featured on more TV shows and in more magazines. And if they are using new members as the jumping point to do all of that, more power to them. If they see new members as a way for Passpo to reinvent themselves and garner more attention, then let them do it. I honestly don’t see the point in adding new members, but if it’s going to help make Passpo be the best they possibily can be, then I’m at least going to be open minded to the whole new members thing. Maybe us fans will be pleasantly surprised. Maybe the new members will be better than expected and open new doors for Passpo. It’s worth a shot at least. At least Passpo’s staff sees some flaws in Passpo and are trying to inprove them. Do I think the members are what needs improvement? Not really. But am I going to condemn the new member or members before I even give then a chance? Absolutely not.

Small updates to JM

Wow, it’s been a while since I made a site updates post. The last site updates post I made was about Janakya Mottainai moving to this blog. So, I suppose this marks my first official site update on this blog. XD
I just wanted to let my readers know that I have added an upcoming releases section to my blog. I’ve been wanting to make an upcoming releases section since I was still on my blogspot blog. But you know how I love to put things off, so much that I am finally making this section about 6 months or more later. After I saw a few other blogs with an upcoming release section I thought it would be a nice touch to my blog. Giving readers easy access to track upcoming releases as well as purchase upcoming singles. We’ve got a lot of things releasing on the same day, so it’ll be exciting to see who reaches number 1. But sadly H!P doesn’t stand a chance. XD

Also, I have a legal section on my blog. Which is more for the goverment than the readers. I’m just super paranoid that SOPA, or some future SOPA incarnate, will pass putting my whole blog in jeopardy. Luckily I have never posted any links to download anything. So, I should be good with that. It’s just the thousands of copywritten images I have scattered all over my blog. But ever since I started JM I was always super paranoid that someday I would get in trouble for all my images, so I usually leave all the copyrights on the bottom of shop photos. I’m pretty sure they are only shop photos for Johnny’s. All other agencies just refer to them as photo sets. But whatever, shop photos sound better. And if SOPA does pass that means I would probably have to cut out all idol groups without official youtube channels. Since posting copywritten videos would probably cause the most issues. It would suck, but I’m fully prepared to stop blogging about Johnny’s. Pretty much every other idol group aside from Johnny’s have official youtube channels. And I’ve also been stockpiling IP addresses so I can still access all the blacklisted and blocked websites in case it does get passed. Hey, better safe than sorry. XD Things like the Fair Use Act and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act should be able to protect us from SOPA, however they probably aren’t strong enough.

Hey! Say! JUMP to release new single

Now, this news has been floating around for weeks, but it was basically a rumor since it wasn’t confirmed. And I didn’t want to blog about this until it was 100% confirmed. And it was finally officially confirmed a few days ago. Hey! Say! JUMP will be releasing their 9th single. The single is entitled Super Delicate and will be released on February 22nd. The song will be used as the theme members Yamada Ryosuke’s and Nakajima Yuto’s drama Risou no Musuko.

I’m really excited that Hey! Say! JUMP is releasing a new single. Since they are my second favorite Johnny’s group I’m always excited for something new. Especially now that with this new release I can put Magic Power behind me and pretend it doesn’t exists. Though I do admit I wish it was a new album instead, since it’s going on 2 years since their last one and the singles are piling up.
I did listen to the concert rip of and the short previews of this song. And I really do like the mature theme of the song. But I won’t comment on it any further until I can get my hands on a radio rip.

Here are some previews of the song.
