It was announced at a handshake event that AKB48 Team A member Sashihara Rino will be making her solo debut. No further details about the single have been announced, but it is said to be released sometime in March. This makes Sasshi the 5th AKB48 member to make their solo debut. And the 3rd member this year. Aki-P also hinted at giving another member a solo single as well, so the solo AKB48 single bombardment continues.
I don’t really know a whole lot about Sasshi beyond the fact that she likes idol music. But a lot of fans seems to be confused/upset by this announcement already. I’m not really so sure as to why. I think Sasshi is pretty cute and she’s the Not Yet member that I am drawn to the most. And I think Sasshi is a good enough singer. She’s not really spectacular but she’s not completely awful. And if Itano Tomomi can release solo singles with her lack luster voice why can’t Sasshi? I’ll wait until I actually hear the song before I decide if she works as a solo singer.
AKB48 was recently featured in a commerical for Apaman Shop, giving us fans the first preview of their upcoming 25th single Give Me Five.
I do like what I hear of the song so far. It seems really upbeat and fun. But I don’t really think it has anything else going for it beyond that. The music isn’t really anything we haven’t heard before. The song is fun, but obviously AKB48 has released songs that are a lot better than this. Anymore AKB48’s singles have been extremely uncreative and lazy to me. This is yet another example of why I can’t wait until their reign on top is over. Maybe they’ll release exciting singles again. The song sounds almost like a toned down version of Heavy Rotation, and would honestly be better suited as a B-side. I guess I’ll just continue to care more about the consistently amazing SKE48.
Here’s the commercial.
And here’s the making which plays more of the song.
With it being extremely close to Christmas I want to announce my yearly Christmas hiatus on this blog. I use the word hiatus lightly since I’ll probably be back to blogging December 26th. You know I can’t stay away from blogging for long. But I mostly want to take this time to wish everyone out there a Merry Christmas. Or actually Happy Holidays instead. Since today is the second day of Hanukkah and tomorrow is Winter Solstice. So, happy Hanukkah and Happy early Winter Solstice. And Happy early Kwanzaa. And everything in beytween.
And in the spirt of the Holidays, it calls for a pic spam of epic proportions.
Also, here are some Christmas or winter themed idol songs.
During AKB48’s Kohaku event they revealed the new members of AKB48’s sub-group DiVA. Though if they added new members I suppose the i in DiVA can finally be capitalized. They revealed that the 6 new members are Kasuya Satoko, Futami Yuuki, Furukawa Atsuko, Fuku Noramu, Inoue Yuina, Yamagami Ayaka. Nothing else about the members have been revealed yet, not even their ages.
This auditions were first announced back in August and Ihaven’t thought a lot about them since. To tell you the truth I actually forgot about them. But a staggering 4 month audition process is pretty serious. It pretty much means you can expect these new members to be incredibly skilled at both singing and dancing. A short video about the new members was released. We don’t get to see a whole lot, besides a picture of them and a short clip of them dancing during the auditions. As of right now the members that stand out to me are Inoue Yuina and Furukawa Atsuko. Yuina because she looks like the best dancer of the bunch, and Atsuko because she looks to be the prettiest of the bunch. Other than that, there’s not much else I can comment on. I’ll have to wait until their first single before I can really judge them.
It was announced that AKB48 and Watarirouka Hashiritai 7 member Watanabe Mayu will be making her solo debut. The single is entitled Synchro Tokimeki and will be released on February 29th. The song will be used as the theme for Mayu’s upcoming drama Sabadoru.
A Mayu solo single might seem like overkill to some as she already leads Watarirouka Hashiritai 7, but I’m honestly excited about it. The more Mayu the better. I absolutely adore Mayu’s voice. Since it’s Mayu we’ll most likely be getting a very cute and upbeat single. I’m really looking forward to this.
SKE48’s official youtube channel has just released a PV preview for their upcoming new single, Katatomoi Finally.
Well, I can honestly say both the song PV are so far off from what I had in mind. I am actually a little disappointed with the song itself. Coming after about such fast paced singles this song doesn’t really compare. I’ve grown so accustomed to SKE48 releasing really energetic and upbeat songs. While the music is still very heavy and danceable it lacks the overall ebthusiasim and energy of their past singles. This song is sung semi upbeat, but at the same times has this very somber feel to it. The PV is what really surprised me the most. For the most part it is a very well made PV with a lot of exciting elements. Like car crashes, blasting off a flare, and I even love that the dance shots are filmed on a roof. I could have honestly done with out the scenes of Jurina (I think it’s her. They don’t show her face, but it kinda sounds like her.) laying on and running through the voice. It doesn’t really fit with the intense and dramatic scenes the rest of the PV is filled with. But then the rest of the PV focuses on the relationships between girls. So, it shows the members having some sort of slumber party, focusing on each other so much that they don’t even notice a car crash, slapping each other, and of course kissing. Which I wasn’t really expecting. This is pretty much the first idol PV that I have ever seen that focuses on an actual lesbian relationship. Most other idol PV usually just have kissing thrown in for fanservice. I do commend them for that. In the aspect that it could make teenage girls who are lesbians feel better about themselves and feel more accepted and normal. However, it’s done less about that and more about catering to the main fanbase as just another act of fanservice. Which, is whatever. It doesn’t really bother me. I love fanservice, just obviously not this type. But overlooking the fanservice aspect I do actually respect the PV a bit more for the deeper meaning it can have. And I actually like to see the PV that way. As yes, fanservice but still something more.
Now, I am bringing you my conclusion to my 2011 ranking, countdown extravaganza: Best Album songs of 2011.
This was the hardest list to write, there have been so many good album songs released this year. This list alone to be roughly 3 hours just to rank. I relistened to every album released in 2011 and wrote down every song that I liked. At that point I was at 26, and I then had to relisten to each song and painstakingly narrow it down even further. While some songs were more obvious then others, it was overall a pretty difficult task.
I actually wanted to add a part 4 this year: Best PVs of 2011. But these posts took way longer than I anticipated already, so I was completely uninspired to write it. But there’s always next year I suppose.
10. Renai Circus
AKB48’s first original album was pretty dismal at best. Renai Circus is pretty much one of the only decent songs on the entire album. But even this song isn’t all that spectacular, which is why it’s so low. I think the best way to desribe this song is adorable, but I’d expect nothing less from Team B. The music is pretty upbeat and silly, I do wish they incorporated more of a circus element into though. My absolute favorite part of the song is the chorus that’s when the song really picks up and is super cute. I also really love all the background speaking in noises throughout the song, it just adds the unseriousness of the song. The lyrics are also pretty cute. For the most part it’s just describing what a circus is, but I still think love and a circus is a cute comparison. Though I do think the trapeze parts describe love better. The song is just fun, and silly the type of song that I like.
9. Santa Maria
Yamapi’s solo album is another album I wasn’t really all that impressed with. His voice just does not fit with club music. So, I can just imagine how bad his solo career is going to be. But that’s off topic. But when I listened to this album this song just immediately stuck out to me. It’s probably one of the most meaningful songs on the entire album. It’s basically Yamapi losing, or about to lose, his girlfriend, and then begging Santa Maria to bring her back because he can’t bare to be without her. I think the song is incredibly sad and heartbreaking. And I’ll admit the reason I do like this song so much is because the lyrics remind me of Last Kiss by J Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers. But the lyrics still are good. The club music does kind of ruin the song a bit. It’s basically like saying, “I’m so sad that I feel like dying, but you know I could still dance.”
8. Icchoume Rock
I really love this song, I think it’s definitely the best song from the album. But that’s not really saying much as I consider 7 Berryz Times to be one of their weakest albums. But Icchoume Rock is really fun, and upbeat. It’s got a subtle rock beat and is extremely easy to dance to. The super positive message of the song is another reason why I like it. It’s basically a song about being and happy, and to just jumpi into things instead of waiting. I like idol songs like that, songs that just instantly cheer you up.
7. Tooku Made
Arashi’s Beautiful World album had a very a dance/electronic theme to it, I thought it just completely worked for them. As, a whole the entire album was great so it was super difficult to pick which songs were the best. But I picked Tooku Made because it has the unique Arashi sound. It’s slow paced, but at the same time it’s still upbeat. And the n the chrous hits and it’s just incredibly catchy and amazing. The song is pretty simple, but it’s simplicity is another reason I like it. It’s light, fresh, and really pretty. And since this is Arashi we get the pretty typical love lyrics. It’s about any mundane moment being significantly better because you’re with the person you love. It’s just really adorable.
6. Kakenukete Blue
I absolutely love YuiKaori because they encompass everything I love about idol music. Upbeat music and sugary sweet voices. And this song doesn’t disappoint. The music has heavy anime sounding music which is pretty much a standard with YuiKaori. The song is pretty upbeat for the whole song, but of course it really picks up during the chorus. Where you really get the full effect of their adorable voices and how well that they blend together. I just enjoy every second of this song. It is so fun and cute that I don’t even mind that I have no idea what the song is about.
5. Ok Yeah
Here comes Morning Musume delivering a hard-hitting, heart pumping dance song. This song is just perfect in every way. It is insanely upbeat and incredible to dance to. The music is amazing, and I love all the voice and sound effects. Like all the woos straight out of eurobeat. (Or Uchouten Love.) And I love when Reina’s, Risa’s, and Sayumi’s high hotes are distorted and extened with the robot effect. I think it completely works with the song. And I love the intense music break where it’s just nothing but electronic trance music for like 30 seconds. The song is about enjoying your youth and going all out chasing your dreams and life. While I am not really in my youth (Technically I am since I’m only 19, but I’m not in my high school youth, which is what they most likely mean.) But the lyrics are still good if you disregard all the youth and young girl aspects. The song then just means being confident and not living without regrets.
4. Mada minu sekai e
This song is just incredible. Which is why they made a PV for it. The music has this futuristic, electronic sound to it. And it’s not too much. It’s like the perfect balance of intense music and soft parts. I absolutely love the autotune they put on Sho’s rap parts, it’s added at the perfect part of the song and it’s done perfectly. The entire song is catchy from start to finish. I have not been able to get this song out of my head for months. They lyrics are pretty encouraging too. Basically telling you to keep going no matter how usure you are of the future.
3. Suki da na kimi ga
This song, I have been absolutely in love with this song since I first heard the radio rip. It’s just perfect. You Mainly hear Sayumi’s voice and instead of ruining it she actually enhances it. Which is a complete rarity for her. This song just completely compliments Sayumi’s and Mizuki’s voices. And Sayumi and Mizuki blend together so seamlessly it almost sounds like one voice. People have complained that you can only hear Sayumi, but that completely isn’t true. Really listen and you can hear Mizuki. She’s just taking the lower parts and is harmonizing, like what Aibon used to do in W. Songs like Juushichi no Natsu you mainly hear Nono.Off topic, I know. This song is just amazing! It’s cuteness overload. It is soft, airy, and pretty, while still have upbeat and interesting elements to the song. The lyrics are also equally cute. It’s about liking someone no matter what their falts are and still thinking they are cute. And wanting to be with them no matter what.
2. Iza, Susume! Steady go!
Iza, Susume! Steady go! has always been one of my favorite songs off of C-ute’s 6th album. But I didn’t realize just how much I loved this song until I saw them perform it live. And it is incedible! This song is nonstop energy from start to finish. The music is heavy and intesnse and the singing matches. Airi sounds just amazing in this song, you can really hear the emotion in her lines. This song is so positive, and upbeat, and fun, and just everything about it is amazing. Everyone’s singing is just so powerful. This song is just so engaging on every level from start to finish. I can’t get tired of this song or get it out of my head. The lyrics are great too. About going full force no matter what. And to always be positive and dream endlessly.
1. Wani to Shampoo
And MomoClo manages to come out on top! After I heard Battle and Romance for the first there was no doubt in my mind that Wani to Shampoo was one of the best idol songs. When I first heard it I wasn’t even thiking about my 2011 top 10 posts, I just thought it was one of the best idol songs I’d heard in a while. Momoiro Clover Z really is the most energetic idols out there. This song hits you with a powerful punch of energy as soon as the chorus hits. And you can’t help but being as over the top as the song itself is. I just can’t properly put into words how much I love this song. The intensity of the song, the energy, the singing, how danceable it is, it’s just an amazing song. If anyone ever asked me why I liked idol music this is the song I’d have them listen to. I don’t even care that this song is about forgetting to do you summer homework. It just shows that idol music is supposed to be fun, and not serious. Especially from an idol group that wears panda makeup and wears power rangers costumes in their PVs. Whenever I’m in a bad mood or just want and instant shot of energy, I play this song.
1. Berryz Koubou – Onna No Pride 2. C-ute Chou Wonderful 3. C-ute Midnight Temptation 4. Morning Musume – Silver no udedokei 5. Morning Musume – Kaiketsu positive A 6. Arashi – Morning Light 7. Arashi – Negai 8. Arashi – Always 9. Arashi – Shake It 10. Arashi – Doko ni Demo Aru Uta 11. Momoiro Clover Z – MomoClo no Nippon Manzai! 12. YuiKaori – Magic Starter 13. YuiKaori – Puppy Love 14. YuiKaori – Crystal no Chikai 15. AKB48 – High School Days 16. Yamashita Tomohisa – Kuchizuke de Adios 17. no3b – Cloudy Sky
Continuing on with my 2011 countdown extravaganza I bring you part 2: Worst singles of 2011.
Unlikes last year, this actually wasn’t the hardest list to make. I already had a general idea of which songs I didn’t like as much. Mostly because I’ve been making a mental note of it all year because I knew I’d be doing this countdown. I would also like to stress that I don’t hate any of these songs. They are just not as good as some of the other idols songs releases this year, and therefore make the bottom half of songs. Of course I still do occasionally listen to them when I am in the mood, it’s just a rare occassion.
10. Momoiro Sparkling
When this song first came out I did like it. But over the months I’ve been liking it less and less. It is definitely the weakest single C-ute released this year. Overall the song is pretty bland. There aren’t any extreme high notes, there’s not a catchy chorus, and the music is just a bit too generic. And I’m afraid that the lyrics aren’t really any better. I think the nonsensical words thrown in are what makes the lyrics the most annoying for me. The song is basically about going boldly into love during the summer. Which is pretty much a summer love song standard, but there’s nothing really special about the lyrics. No heartbreaking moments or absolutely adorable moments that make you think it’s a great song. For the most part is sounds like ever other summer themed idol song.
9. My Home
Since the first time I’ve heard this song I’ve never really been a fan of it. At first it was because of how soft the song is. As I’ve said before I’m not a big fan of ballads or slow songs. The song stays pretty soft the entire song, even during the chorus it hardly picks up. And I honestly find it boring, it doesn’t really hold my interest. And once I read the translation it pretty much sealed my indifference of the song. I think the lyrics are equally boring. They basically talk about what a year of average family life is about. I mean, I guess the song is telling me to appreciate the small things in life. And that something as simple as a family is important, so I should treasure it. That’s all well and good, but I don’t have a family. (Of my own, I mean. Obviously everyone has a family.) So, the lyrics aren’t all that meaningful to me. Ask me if I like the song in about 10 years, then I’ll probably be singing a different tune.
8. Ai no Dangan
This was also a song that I liked at first. I actually liked this song, a whole lot. The music is intense and it’s sung very well. On some level I do like this song. But what ruins the song completely for me are the lyrics. As soon as I found out what the lyrics were actually about it knocked the song down a few pegs. I just think the lyrics are pretty terrible. The song is about wanting to make some one love you by shooting them with your love bullet. But being upset beause they always dodge it. The song seems a bit pathetic to me. To me it sounds like they are about trying to get someone who’s not into you to reciprocate your feelings. I mean the lyrics talk about wanting to thrown yourself at them and even though you’ve been together a lot they’re not getting the message. I don’t know, songs about being desperate aren’t really my thing.
7. Yume Tamago
I do think this song is incredibly cute and pretty much the type of songs that NYC always release. I also think the singing is pretty good. It’s nothing spectacular, but it’s still good. Well, at least Ryosuke and Yuma sound good. Chinen is in their ruinging the song with his terrible voice per usual. At the same time I think this song is also incredibly immature. There’s a fine line between childish songs and soungs for children, this song obviously crosses that line. The song is about reaching your dream which is childish, but still not really. However, the lyrics explain how to reach your dream in such a childish manner. Like it will grow in your heart, and to pick and choose your colorful dream. I can’t say it’s a song I would proudly proclaim my love for.
6. Min Min Min
I’ve always thought Min Min Min was a pretty werid song. I honestly don’t get it at all. The verses are sung in SDN48’s “sexy” voices like all their past A-sides have. But then the chorus comes on and it’s trying to be all cutesy. There’s a total disconnect there. It honestly sounds like 2 completely different songs were shoved together. And I also have no idea what the noise that cicadas make has to do with anything. Is it because cicadas are heat bugs? And SDN48 calling out Min is basically saying that SDN48 are hot or made hot when someone they like is near? It has to be something stupid like that. I also don’t like the song because the lyrics are as pathetic and desperate as Ai no Dangan. But this song is even worse. It is actually about clinging onto someone after they’ve left you. The whole song is basically not taking no for an answer after you’ve been dumped. Am I the only one who sees how clinging on is just embarrassing yourself?
I am just so disappointed with DiVA as a whole. They take some of the best singers in AKB48 and then they never give them a decent single. I guess management thinks that giving them simple songs will make people focus on their singing ability, but it honestly has the opposite effect. And I just think their talent is being wasted on mediocre songs. This song is obviously sung incredibly well. But there’s nothing really special about this song. The same exact beat is booming through the entire song, and as a whole it’s not really enough to keep my attention. The lyrics also come off a little whiny to me. As they are about literally crying over lost love. Which is an extremely sad moment. But I don’t really think the lyrics were touching enough.
4. Kaze wa Fuiteiru
This song, I don’t really know what more I can say about it. I pretty much ripped it to shreads in my blog already. And with good reason, this song is just so horribly bland and lackluster. It’s somber, and it’s sad, and I just don’t care for it. They put hardly any effort into it. Like I said before, it seems lately AKB48 has been riding their fame wave to sell singles instead of actually making great songs. They’ve gotten so big and popular that now any mediocre song they throw out will sell a million copies just becasue their fanbase is so large. Which is the type of fame Arashi is resting on. And it honestly makes both artist’s music suffer. Both groups release 1 or 2 really good singles a year, and then the rest are mediocre at best. I also don’t find the lyrics to be all that great. Since it was a song for the tsunami they really tried to make it meaningful, but I don’t think it’s quite there. It’s about picking yourself up after a disaster, but the lyrics feel empty to me.
3. Sakura no Ki ni Narou
I’m going to voice an unpopular opinion here and say I do not like this song at all, not one bit. For some strange reason, that I absolutely cannot fathom, everyone seems to really love this song. First, off I think the song is far too soft. I don’t like ballads. Not in English and certainly not in Japanese. They are just boring, and they lose my attention quite easily. The song is only a ballad to get out the deep emotion of the song, of course. But the way it’s sung has nothing to do with my dislike of the song, No, much like every other song on this list it’s all about the lyrics. It’s a sad song about graduating, taking a step further, but the eternal cherry blossom tree with always been there so you can recapture your school days. Which is perfectly fine, if the lyrics weren’t strikingly similar to the song they released last year Sakura no Shiori. Read the translation to these songs back to back and tell me they aren’t 80% the same exact song! That is just lazy writting on Aki-P’s part. All graduation songs do not have to sound the same or be completely sad. I mean look at 10nen Zakura, I love that song because of how upbeat it is and how it’s such a positive reflection of graduation. Just like Last Forever by Buono and Cherry Saku Yuuki by An Cafe are.
2. My Days For You
Oh, ManoEri why did you have to release this sad excuse for a single when I was finally starting to really get used to and like your songs? There isn’t one good aspect to this song. The music is very soft and bland and ManoEri’s voice sounds horrid. During the chorus her voice sounds so strained and squeeky because she’s hitting notes and singing in a tone that doesn’t work for her voice. She should stick to cute sounds, her voice is bearable in those. This song, however, is so forgettable that I honestly forgot it even existed until I watched H!P’s summer concerts. And of course the lyrics match the song. This is yet another song that is begging someone to love you. Granted this is done is a slightly cute way that you almost feel sorry for her. I still don’t like the overall meaning.
1. No Cry No More
And the worst song of the year goes to AAA. Just like it was obvious which songs I would pick for the best single of 2011, this was also a no brainer. But honestly, I’m not really sure why I dislike this song so much. But I just do. Maybe it’s due to the fact that Misako sings most of the song, per usual, and her voice is especially ear piercing in this song. Misako is fine in moderation, but for the most part I can’t stand her voice. And it really rubs me the wrong way in this song, and just ruins the song completely. The lyrics are a little meaningful, telling you not to cry and to face everything head on. But be that as it may, I just do not like this song.
Since I had so much fun doing my best and worst of 2010 extravaganza posts, I knew it was something I wanted to make a yearly event on my blog. So, here I am doing it again! In this post I’ll be ranking my personal favorite 10 singles of 2011. This list was a lot harder than last year. I started following more idol groups which added to the number of singles I had to pick through. I counted and there are about 81 singles from idols that I follow. Which is an insane amount of music to go through, so these rankings took me a few days to do.
So, without further ado I bring you part 1 of my 2011 ranking extravaganza.
10. Kakkowarui I love you!
Believe it or not, number 10 is the hardest song to pick. Mainly because it’s the absolute last song I can pick, and I have to really think about what last song I want to add. Originally number 10 was going to be Not Yet’s Naminori Kakigoori, but I couldn’t stop thinking about Kakkowarui I love you. And from that it became obvious that I had to pick it. I absolutely love this song. From the hard rock and electronic beat that it has to the way it’s sung. I think everyone in French Kiss are amazing singers, and everyone has a very similar tone to their voice so they blend together amazingly well. I love how soft every 2nd line of the verse sounds. But the real reason I picked this song is because of the chorus. The song is pretty slow for the most part, but when that chorus hits it takes the song to whole new level. The chorus is is just incredible and extremely catchy. Just the way it’s sung it’s very entrancing. And of course the cute lyrics also add to my love of the song. I just love that it’s about stumbling though an accidental love. It’s really cute. But also sad at the same time, because it’s also about not being able to say I love you because you feel like it’s too late.
9. Ganbatte Seishun
To me SUPER GiRLS has always been the Frankenstein monster of idol groups. Collectively, and shameless, copying elements of other idol groups to heighten their own popularity. While, that might annoy people I say, “do what you gotta do.” And that reason is pretty much why I’m so drawn to SUPER GiRLS. They make the typical, or generic to some, idol songs which are my favorite. And Ganbatte Seishun is 100% an idol song right down to it’s core. This song is upbeat and happy, with encouraging lyrics that tell you to always do your best. And that’s pretty much all there is to the song, but that’s honestly all it needs. Ganbatte Seisun is one of those mood maker songs that instantly cheer you up. And that’s all you can really ask from music.
8. Maji Desu ka Ska!
Since I first heard this song I wasn’t shy about praising it or professing my absolute love for the song. And that hasn’t changed one bit. I’ve listened to this song constantly throughout the year and have not grown tired of it once. A song like this is just Morning Musume at it’s best to me. It’s upbeat, happy, energetic, and just over the top fun. The song has an infectious ska beat and even more infectious chorus. Each line might not correlate to the next, and the song might not actually have an overall meaning, but that doesn’t stop me from loving every second of it. From start to finish you just can’t help but want to dance and sing along to it. And not every song has that effect.
7. Valentine Kiss
Watarirouka Hashiritai 7 is one of my favorite idol groups out there because they make nothing but adorable songs. And that’s exactly why Vanlentine Kiss landed a spot on my list. This song was definitely one of the, if not the, cutest idol songs released this year. Even though this song is a cover I think Warota really made it their own. And I honestly think it surpasses the original. If only on the cuteness factor alone. But who doesn’t love a song about trying to get someone’s attention to have a kiss on Valentine’s Day? Especially if it’s sung by the always adorable Watarirouka Hashiritai 7.
6. Heroine ni Narou ka!
I never really realized just how much I love this song until I started making this list. But looking back at the year this has been one of those songs that I couldn’t get enough of. And the reason I love this song so much is because it’s powerful. Just everything about it is powerful. The electronic/dance dance music is very strong, as well as the singing being extremely powerful. There’s a lot of intensity in the way it’s sung, it’s honestly one of Berryz’s best vocal performances. Especially Miaybi’s whoa towards the end of the song, that was just incredible. I was also really inpressed with Yurina’s harmonizing and Risako’s high note. As well as loving Massa’s echoed mirai. The lyrics are also pretty powerful. They have these empowering undertones to them. To just step on out the street and just be super confident because tonight you can do it. And because, hey, everyone notices you tonight.
5. Vivi Natsu
Ever since I first discovered Passpo they’ve been impressing me with their unique sound. And because of that they becoming one of my favorite idol groups out there. I think Vivi Natsu really encompasses what makes Passpo so great. The music is a great combination of a great guitar riff and still that sweet idol music sound. And it also features awesome rapping parts by Naomi, Shiori, and Anna. Though honestly Noami’s raps are hands down the best. And it also has that really beautiful part where Mio Mio sings softly and sounds absolutely amazing.
I’m a little sad that T.W.L. is the only Johnny’s song to make the list this year. It was actually a pretty good year of JE, there were just other songs that were better. T.W.L. is one of those songs that I didn’t expect to like as much as I do. When I first heard it I was kinda indifferent towards it, and thought it was just ok. This song is really fun and extremely catchy. It captures the crazyness and over the topness of Kanjani8 without going to overboard. And can I just say that I absolutely love Subaru’s solo at the end with the microphone effect. That is definitely the highlight of the song. The lyrics however are honestly all over the place, so it’s hard to really get the message. I mean, I’m not even sure what T.W.L. even means. What I take away from the song is that it’s about facing your future no matter how unsure it might be. And to just honestly cope with life. If things are hard say they are, instead of just pretending to be happy.
3. Z Densetsu ~Owarinaki Kakumei~
When I was picking my top singles of 2011 it was a complete no brainer to add Z Densetsu ~Owarinaki Kakumei~ to my list. MomoClo is one of the most energetic idols out there, and this is probably the most energetic songs they have every released. I absolutely love this song. It’s just nonstop energy and excitment from start to finish. It’s one of those songs that is fun to listen to. It’s a song that isn’t trying to be serious, it’s just trying to make you happy. I also really love the lryrics to this song. I love how they are about each member’s personality. And then the rest of the song really matches their weekend heroines theme. And the lyrics go into say how MomoClo won’t lose and will protect fans. And will sing with all their hearts and might to cheer up fans. I think that’s really sweet. And it really seems like MomoClo really means what they are singing.
2. Uchouten Love
It’s a bit bittersweet to pick the last song featuring the original line up of S/mileage. But hey, at least they went out with a bang. And it really was a bang indeed. This song is absolutely incredible in every single way. From start to finish this song is a nonstop party. The heavy eurobeat music doesn’t let up for even a second throughout the song. Ever during the soft solos towards the end of the song. You can hear the beat growing in the background, waiting to make it’s blaring return. And I love the song for it. The song is incredibly fun and so loud that it almost demands you dance along. And S/mileage’s sugary sweet voices really work with this type of techno music. It’s one of those combinations that sounds terrible on paper, but then you actually hear it and you’re blown away. The lyrics are the typical idol fare of falling in love and being excited every second because of that. The overly cute lyrics we’ve come to expect from S/mileage.
1. Banzai Venus
It was completely obvious to me which song was number one, it was so obvious it was the first song I wrote down. When it comes to 2011 I cannot think of one song that surpasses Banzai Venus. SKE48 is really starting to surpass AKB48 for me. Mostly because of their constant upbeat releases lately. The song is actually pretty slow for most of the song, but once the chorus starts that’s it. You just get this punch of pure energy that you can’t help but be drawn into the song. It’s so mesmerizing and addicting that just the power from the song’s small chorus beat every other song this year. No other song this year gets me as pumped or happy as Banzai Venus does. The only real drawback to this is that some of this song;s lyrics are so random that they are laughable. A cart full of toliet paper, and an old lady being delayed in line. What does that have to do with anything? Lucky the rest of the lyrics are much better. And it’s a pretty cute song about to have the courage to go for it and confess your feelings.
Honorable mentions: (Because yet again, I had way too many favorites.)
1. Morning Musume – Kare to Issho ni Omise ga Shitai
2. C-ute – Sekaiichi HAPPY na Onna no Ko
3. Mano Erina – Seishun no Serenade
2. S/mileage – Please Miniskirt Postwoman!
4. Arashi – Meikyuu Love Song
5. KAT-TUN – Ultimate Wheels
6. Tegomass – Aoi Bench
7. Hey! Say! JUMP – Over
8. AKB48 – Flying Get
9. Watarirouka Hashiritai 7 – Hetappi Wink
10. Not Yet – Naminori Kakigoori
11. SKE48 – Oki Doki
12. NMB48 – Zetsumetsu Kurokami Shoujo
13. YuiKaori – Shooting Smile
14. AAA – Daiji na Koto
15. SUPER GiRLS – Joshiryoku Paradise
16. Yamashita Tomohisa – Hadakanbo
It was recently announced that NMB48 will be releasing their 3rd single. The single is currently untitled but it will be released on February 8th.
I wish I could say that I was excited for another NBM48 single, but I’m not really. I’m interested in what it’s going to sound like, but that’s honestly about it. NMB48 is pretty much hit or miss with me. I thought their first single was incredible, and to me that set the bar pretty high for NMB48. That’s why their 2nd single was such a disappointment to me. Their B-sides are actually a lot better then their A-sides have been. But again Zetsumetsu Kurokami Shoujo’s B-sides were much better. Oh My God’s B-sides were too slow for my taste.
It was announced that AKB48 and Watarirouka Hashiritai7 member Iwasa Misaki will be making her solo debut as an enka singer. Her debut single is currently untitled but will be released on February 1st.
I think this is definitely exciting news for Misaki since she’s expressed how it’s her dream tobe an enka singer. To be honest I actually didn’t think anything was going to come of her label switching. I thought after she switched Nagara Pro that meant she would no longer be in Watarirouka Hashiritai. And since she was still in Warota’s net single I honestly chalked it up to her enka career not happening. So, I am a little surprised that it’s finally happening. Personally, I’m not really all that excited. In my opinion enka music is terrible. No matter how skilled someone is in enka it comes off as off pitch and extremely screechy. But I still admire Misaki for following her dreams when she could stick with her idol niche. Just don’t expect me to really cover it on this blog, unless it’s so fantastic it changes my opinion on enka music forever.
It was just announced that SKE48 will be releasing their 8th single. The single is entiled Kataomoi Finally and will be released on January 25th.
I’m always excited for a new SKE48 single, especially since their recent singles have been 100 times better than AKB48’s and NMB48’s. I’m a little confused by the titled though. Unrequited love isn’t really something you want to finally happen, or really at all. I’ve heard people mention that this may be a follow up to Aozora Kataomoi, which doesn’t really make sense. Just because they both use the same word doesn’t mean they are connected to each other. And I wouldn’t really be too happy if it was a follow up song, it’s one of my least favorite SKE48 songs. It’s too slow paced for my liking.
A few weeks ago the full PV for Watarirouka’s 9th single, Kibou Sanmyaku, was released.
When I started to watch the PV I immediately became excited. This PV has a 1960’s/ sort of American Bandstand theme, which I think is incredible. I always love when music videos portray American bandstand. It makes me think of vidoes like Outkasts’s Hey Ya and FT Island’s Hope, which were videos that had this really great storyline. In Hope FT Island was sucked back in time and it followed their group’s success. Hey Ya didn’t really have a storyline, but it did feature 6 or 7 different versions of Andre 3000, which is awesome in itself. Sadly, I don’t think Watarirouka Hashiritai7 really captures that same level of creativity. In their PV it’s just showing them performing, and being simultaneously broadcast on TV, with the audience being really into it. Besides the fact that half of the PV is in black and white, and the short commercial in the beginning, the PV is no different than actual footage of one of their live performances. Except that in this PV they focus a lot more on the audience. And it was honestly a let down to me. The PV started and I was sitting here completely jazzed that I was going to watch this amazing PV, and that didn’t really happen. They took a really fun theme and didn’t push it to it’s full potential. What I really liked about Outkast’s and FT Island’s music videos is that besides filiming their live performances they had other bandstand elements: like the Dick Clark-esque opening and showing how the viewers used to dance along at home with it. If they just incorporated more bandstand elements that would have really brought this PV over the top. I’m a sucker for flashback themed music videos and for 60’s fashion. And if the combination of the 2 was done correctly it probably would have become one of my favorite idol PVs of all time.
Wish I could read what that says.
I love that this PV is in black and white.
Absolutely love it. Though I kinda wish it was in black and white a little longer.
I also really love their outfits. They really look like 60’s mod.
I don’t get why idols keep incorporating jazz hands into their dances, as if it’s an acceptable move.
Mayu stealing all my focus already.
You know I hardly every say this, because Mika isn’t really one of the prettiest AKB48 girl. But she looks really great in this PV. That hair really suits her.
This is too simple of a dance.
I can’t get over how good Mika looks.
Am I the only one who thinks Misaki looks elfish. Just noticed. It’s not a bad thing, it adds to her cuteness.
Such an adorable face Nacchan.
Ayaka always looks the prettiest to me when her bangs are pulled back.
Not sure if want.
This hair does nothing for Haruka.
Aika is just so adorable. It’s really neck and neck between her and Mayu as the cutest Watarirouka member.
Ok, this guy has gone from slightly interested to must have in about 3 seconds flat. He’s a little creepy now.
This move reminds me of para para so much.
I love how creepy guy is looking at that cop like, “how dare you watch my Watarirouka!”
Whenever I hear a song I like I immediately grab the person next to me and start rocking side to side. Don’t you?
Mayu and Misaki have the best outfits. Lol that Haruka has to wear farming clothes.
Well, hello there cutie.
This is adorable.
That awkward moment when you’re the only person in the entire club not dancing.
I hate that they put Aika in one of those sad ugly sweaters you wear at Christmas.
Mayu is just too cute for words.
Oh way to go old guy. Way to just conform to what everyone else is doing.
Recently the PV for AKB48’s new single, Ue Kara Mariko, was released.
Right off the bat, when Mariko won the janken tournament I was not excited for this single or PV. And I have nothing against Mariko. I honestly don’t know enough about her to have anything against here. The reason I wasn’t excited was, because the whole appeal of the janken tournament for me is the idea that an underdog would finally be in the spotlight. And when someone who is always in the spotlight won, well this single lost it’s appeal for me. But I’m not going to let something as silly as the person I wanted to win the janken lose, effect my opinion of the song or PV. No, I’m not that type of fan. Instead I like to have the song and PV speak for itself. So, I did just that, and my opinion is still negative. Not so much about the song. I actually really like the song. It’s sort of a generic idol song that doesn’t really try anything to bold music or singing wise. But just the same, I like it. I think it’s incredibly catchy. My dissapointment lies with the PV itself. And not even the entire PV, just the smallest part of it. Collectively I think it’s a well made PV, with a lot os pretty scenes. Even though it is the same idol close-up and dance shot idol formula, I still think it’s entertaining. Not really because there’s a lot going on in the PV, it’s mostly because the visuals don’t bore me. Let’s take the dance shot set for instance. This is hands down my favorite set, and, in turn, favorite scenes in the PV. First off, I absolutely adore their outfits. I don’t know how AKB48 does it, but they keep constantly reinventing the school girl uniform so that’s it’s different and cute everytime. I like that these uniforms are authentic looking but at the same time stylish. Of course the top 3 girls were given the best outfits, with Mariko’s being the best of them all. I just love the hat that Mariko is wearing! It really makes the outfit. But it’s not only the outfits that make these scenes for me. The room is so oddly shaped/built that your eyes are automatically drawn to it. For some reason I just find the shape interesting, and the color scheme is beautiful. I also think the lighting here is perfect. Not only is it dim giving it a very elegant and ethereal look, it also has pink lighting. I don’t know if the lights themselves are pink or because the room has a pink roof the like is just reflecting it giving it a pink look. But whatever it is it work, and it’s absolutely beautiful. Another scene of the PV I like are the scenes were they show each girl individually in their janken outfits. Which actually aren’t the outfits they wore in the actual janken tournament. A few of them are close though. I’m not really sure why I think these scenes so much. They aren’t particularly interesting. I guess I like that these scenes makes it look like the girls are in fashion school, with the random fabrics and the random mannequin in the background. I actually wouldn’t mind if the entire PV was just the girls wearing a bunch of randomly outifts in those shots. I also, don’t have a problem with the close-up scenes. Even though they are just standing in front of hanging pieces of glitter, or whatever that material is, much like they used for S/mileage’s Yume Miru 15sai PV. I think they actually worked with the PV because they were pink. So, with all this love I’m giving to this PV I bet it’s hard to believe there’s anything I don’t like about it. But since there’s one large aspect of the PV I haven’t mentioned yet, I think it’s pretty obvious what I don’t like. Yes, you guessed it, the janken scenes. I just don’t understand why they feel the need to include them in the PV. Chance no Junban was the first janken, so the jaken scenes in that PV were pretty much excused. But this time they are completely unnecessary. I think everyone is well aware it’s the janken single. And even if they weren’t do they really need to point it out? I don’t see them having mini senbatsu elections for the senbatsu singles. So, why have it for the janken? They seriously bring down and otherwise amazing PV.
I absolutely love Mariko’s outfit.
I’ve been in love with those hats since I first saw them in Morning Musume’s Ai Araba It’s All Right PV.
The black school uniforms are gorgeous too.
I actually really like the dance, I think it’s simple and cute.
My god, Reina looks amazing in this PV.
I’m so glad Sayaka is in this PV. She looks great.
Am I supposed to know who this chick with big ears is? I guess she’s a random research student. XD
Why is Ami dressed as a nun?
Tomomi is always adorable.
I can’t take this move seriously.
This pose is just adorable.
Research student or not, this girl is adorable. Weird ears and all. XD
Ami is so weird that she’s cute.
Lol that Mii-chan doesn’t even look happy.
Randomly shaking. Ok, maybe this dance is a little weird.
I absolutely love idol dances that involve jumping.
So, why is Reina so sad?
I hate this dress.
They keep having Mariko watch over the girls. This seriously scream impending graduation. She is getting pretty old.
They even have Reina win the janken in Mariko’s outfit.
As Mariko looks on like a proud mother. If this doesn’t symbolize passing the torch, I don’t know what does.
Way too big of a smile. But I think it’s charming. It actually doesn’t look fake.
A couple weeks ago the full PV for French Kiss’s 4th single, Saisho no Mail, was released.
Much like most French Kiss PVs this PV revolves heavily around a storyline and nothing else. Which is usually fine. I thought the story in the If PV was adorable. However, I am just not into the storyline in this PV at all. What I get from the PV is: the story follows around 3 girls who were obviously friends in high school but drifted apart because of their drastically different career choices. All of the girls are doing pretty badly at their most likely new jobs and are feeling pretty down. That is until Aki texts them and they all meet up. They do a few girl get together cliches, like shopping and karaoke. And then magically through the power of friendship, I guess, after they meet up everyone is now doing fantastic at their jobs.
First off, I do apperciate when my idol PVs have a storyline. It does help to make it more interesting, and an overall better PV. Since just dance shot and close-up PVs are a little boring. But I don’t want a PV that is so focused on having a storyline that it forgets it’s a music video. I do still want my close-ups and dance scenes. And in this PV their are hardly any close-up singing shots and no dancing. Also, the entire PV is a walking cliche. And like most cliches it’s completely inaccurate. Not amount of support or positive reinforcement from your friends is going to make you a better teacher, actress, office worker, or anything. It’s not. And I know a lot of idol PVs are riddled with cliches. But I can’t really stand it. If it’s done in a quirky, intentionally cheesy sort of way, then that’s fine. But if it’s done in this super serious sort of way, I can’t really take it seriously. Honestly I wish they did what they did with the 10nen Zakura PV. The storyline in the beginning, but still the happy idol PV I love afterwards.
I can’t imagine Yuki ever being a kindergarden teacher. XD
I wanna say that Asuka is a dancer.
But then why does she get some sort of script?
Aki looks amazing with this hair.
Boring close-up setting.
Aki looks super goegeous.
I always complain when there’s Japanese writting in PVs that I can’t understand. And now that there’s some that I understand most of, it’s not important to the story at all. XD
Yuki is adorable.
Asuka is way too into it. Lol.
Are they seriously just standing there?
At least this is a bit of variety.
3 way high five. XD
That face. Lol.
Asuka looks gorgeous here.
I guess Asuka is an actress. But then why the streching in the beginning?
It was announced recently that SDN48 will be releasing their 4th single. The single is currently untitled and will be released on December 28th. This is also most likely SDN48’s final single, since their disbandment is on April 1st.
Now, when SND48’s disbandment was announced I didn’t blog about it at all. Because honestly, I don’t really care all that much. Mostly because I’m hardly a huge SDN48 fan. The only SND48 songs I really like are GAGAGA and Awajishima no Tamanegi. It is a little sad that they are disbanding before they really had a chance to succeed. And to tell you the truth I wasn’t really expecting SDN48 to release another single. I understand they probably want to give the fans a proper goodbye while still squeezing as much money from them as possible. But at the same time, I also feel like why bother? They are obviously disbanding them because they are doing as well as they expected. So, why even bother giving them a final single. Obviously the agency has zero faith in them. If I was in SDN48 I would feel so hurt that they are not only disbanding my group, but also squeezing one more single out of us.
But the main reason I don’t see the point in this new single, is because I don’t actually believe that SDN48 is disbanding at all. I mean, we all know that Aki-P loves to mess with the fans. And them disbanding on April Fool’s Day just seems too perfect to me. It seems like this 4th single is just testing how much the fans will support SDN48. Basically saying if you want SDN48 to continue on, you should support them as if every single was their final one. Or something along those lines. I just refuse to believe their disbandment is legit. If is is legit, it just doesn’t make sense.
A few days ago the new opening for the Crayon Shin-chan anime aired. And sinceWatarirouka Hashiritai7’s upcoming single, Kibou Sanmyaku, is being used as the new theme, we get to hear a preview of the song. There’s also a full radio rip of this song floating around, however I can’t find it.
I was completely not expecting this song to sound the way it does. The music is a lot heavier then what they usually release. The song and music almost has dark undertones to it. Well, about as dark as a song can sound with the sugary sweet voices of Watarirouka Hashiritai7. The song also, in an odd way, reminds me of Muten Musume’s Appare Kaiten Zushi. Just the parts where they repeat the words sa and mae. I do have to admit, I am not in love with this song. This is hardly their best song. Quite honestly, a majority of their past A-sides have been 100 times stronger than this song. I prefer my Watarirouka Hashiritai7 to be super upbeat and cutesy. This song is just to different of a sound for my taste. AndI don’t really think it fits them at all. How do you go from Hetappi Wink to this?
The PV preview for French Kiss’s upcoming 4th single, Saisho no Mail, was released. And Avex must read my blog because the PV preivew is a nice short 40 seconds, like I prefer.
Since most of French Kiss’s PV tend to tell stories than have a regular idol PV, it’s no surprise that this PV seems to be exactly the same. Pretty much there are 2 scenes really in the PV so fare. Yuki and Asuka get a text message obviously from Aki, and then they meet up. The other scene is French Kiss randomly standing in a pure white sunlit room. Which makes me think that this song will not have a dance. Which is completely boring. The PV as a whole seems kinda boring. At least If had a better story, actually had a dance, and was a better song. I am just completely not into this single. The only positive I have about this is the girls look amazing. Especially Aki who’s rocking that shortcut. But the girls always look amazing. I want more from a PV.
So, lately I’ve been reading Serenyty’s, from Happy Disco, and Mina’s, from Wota (in training), posts about the 30 day idol challenge. And I’ve enjoyed their posts so much that I wanted to join in the fun and do my own 30 day idol challenge. But it wasn’t until I read Chiima’s, from Okay! Musume Time!, posts that she suggested I do my own challenge. So, I’m going to finally break down and do it. Which shouldn’t be too hard for me since I usually blog everyday anyway. But I do tend to get lazy at times, so I can’t 100% guarantee that I will do this challenge everyday. But I am going to try to.
The original 30 day idol challlenge was nothing but questions about Hello!Project. I am a gigantic H!P fan don’t get me wrong, but I also like a bunch of other idol groups and wanted to blog about them too. So, in every question I changed the word H!P to idol. And when that didn’t work I used most of what Serenyty changed the questions too. Since we seem to follow mostly the same idol groups.
So, let’s move on to today’s question.
Day 1: Who’s your favorite Idol?
This question was so incredibly easy for me. Since becoming an idol fan there have been 2 idols that have stood out as my favorites.
Oh, my beloved Koha. I don’t really know what to say about her, I just love absolutely everything about her! She’s breath takingly gorgeous and absolutely adorable! And she’s just one of those idols that are a joy to watch. She was constantly making me laugh, and my eyes were always drawn to her. Koharu just has an outgoing, hyperactive, and explosive personality. She was just an overall fun person. She could inject fun and entertainment into just about anything she did. Whether it was losing at a game, or simply waiting for a bus. I even love Koharu’s singing voice. That’s right, I LOVE it. I love overly cute idols and overly cute idol voices. So, honestly the cuter Koha’s voice the better. My favorite Koha solo songs are Kon Nichi Pa and Love da yo Darling, so enough said there. Which is an extremely unpopular opinion among H!P fans. But I don’t even care. No one is going to bring down my Koharu love, and no one ever has! See, before every H!P fan directed their hate to Aika a lot, maybe even the majority, of hate was thrown out at my poor Koha. Just because she couldn’t sing. Which is ridiculous if you ask me. And maybe I’m a bit biased, but I honestly cannot find one fault about Koharu. She is just the perfect idol in my eyes. And we definitely lost a great Momusu member when she left. To this day I still think there’s something fishy going on behind her graduation. And all the insults wrapped in comments from other member’s during their graduation messages to her made me sick. XD
Ryo-chan is probably my favorite member in all of JE. And not just because he’s one of the best looking members in JE, which he completely is. Ryo just has a personality I find completely appealing. A lot of people tend to hate Ryo-chan because of how mean he is. But when you’re known as being a poison tounge, what do you really expect? When I first started to like NEWS people told me I shouldn’t be a fan of Ryo because of how much of a jerk his is and how he treated Ueda. But I didn’t really care. And after I watched NEWS’s fashion check where Ryo said how he hated Ueda at the end, at that moment I was sold and knew he would be my favorite member. I think Ryo is absolutely hilarious. I love that he’s blunt, honest, snarky, and not afraid to say whatever is on his mind. And I think his overall evil and “I’m too cool for JE” personality is also hilarious. Making Shige shove like 10 takoyaki (I can’t remember exactly what food it was.) in his mouth, or refusing to do some lame dance with Kanjnai8 on some TV show becase he was to cool to. And if people hate him for this, so be it. But these are all the reasons I love him. He is always entertaining. And beyond the character he puts on for TV, he is a really sweet guy. He just doesn’t show it too often. But get him in a room with Leah Dizon, It’ll come out.
A few days ago AKB48 sub-group Not Yet released the full PV for their 3rd single Pera Pera Perao.
Just when I didn’t think the PV could get any better than the preview showed. Somehow Not Yet managed to go above and beyond my expectations, and made probably one of my favorite PVs in 2011 so far. I absolutely love everything about this PV. I love the sets, the outfits, the background dancers, the clear storyline, and the use of English throughout the PV. I love the fact that most of the PV is PV takes place in a 50’s styled diner. I’m not sure if I would have liked it as much if it was just a regular diner. But not only that the set itslef is styled beautifully, there are a lot of props in it and it is very bright and vibrant. But Not Yet doesn’t stop there, no instead they have 3 additional sets. Which aren’t as spectacular as the diner set, and actually look like they might be in front of a green screen. But how often do we really see idol PVs with 3 or 4 different sets? Hardly ever. Not Yet also wears 3 different outfits, which is another rarity in idol PVs. Usually we only get a dance scene outfits and sometimes a close-up. I honestly think only two of the outfits are cute, but you have to give them extra points for even having 3 outfits. The other aspect of the PV that I love is how clear the storyline is. The PV is supposed to follow the lyrics about a guy who wants to be able to talk better to girls, and you can see that in the PV. The PV does have scenes showing little boys be unable to get their true feelings across to the members of Not yet. The thought bubbles written in English obvious make it 100 times easier to understand. Overall I think the PV is completely solid. It’s really fun and is a joy to watch. The only part of the PV I’m not too enamored is the dance. But they make up for it by having backup dancers.
I absolutely love the set!
No, really. Look how pretty the set is.
I always love this dance move in idol dances.
The dance is a little too simple. I do love these outfits though. They are a pretty simple design, but are still cute.
Rie’s hairstyle is super cute.
This scene is cute. And lolz at Rie’s face.
Hmm, this is oddly familiar.
It’s probably because Secret’s Shy Boy video has a nearly identical scene.
I love that I can read that.
It’s no fun when I can’t. XD
Sasshi is so pretty. *O*
Adorable. But that kida looks so confused.
I can’t help being biased. Rie and Sasshi look the best in this PV.
Backup dancers makes any dance look better.
Aww poor kid. But Yuko looks gorgeous.
Yui looks as washed up as ever.
Everyone looks so awkward here. Like they don’t expect the mic stand to go down properly.
Random shot of the kids.
Yui always comes off as fake to me. But Rie looks cute, sporting another adorable hairstyle.
Lolz at Yuko.
You’re on the phone? I would have never guessed!
Meh, Yui doesn’t even look cute here.
Gorgeous! Rie manages too look flawless in all 3 outfits. It’s the like the stylist was a Rie fan. Lol.
I love that’s it’s just randomly night.
Aww, Yuko looks so sad.
But Yui looks creepy and emotionless.
The bubbles add a cute effect.
I just noticed the ceiling tiles are rainbow colored, that’s awesome. XD
The full radio rip for French Kiss’s upcoming 4th single, Saisho no Mail, has just been released. It might be the full rip but French Kiss talks over about half of the song, which honestly annoyed me to no end.
I’m not really into what I hear so far. The song is very soft and elegant. A very light and airy song. That no doubt has some heartwarming lyrics, about a first love letter or something along those lines. Which is fine, and standard idol far. But the song itself is far to slow for my taste. I’ve said it a hundred times before that I am not a big fan of slow paced songs at all. For me to actually like a slow song, it better have such beautiful lyrics that tear well up in my eyes. Somehow, I doubt this song is like that. The song is sung beautifully, but it’s just not my cup of tea.
A few days ago the PV preview for SKE48’s upcoming 7th single, Okie Dokie, was released. I don’t remember them releasing a radio rip for this song, so as far as I’m aware this is the first time us fans are hearing the song as well.
The song itself is really upbeat and happy, and definitely sounds like something SKE48 would release. However, I think a lot of their past singles were a lot stronger. All of SKE48’s past A-sides, excluding Aozora Kataomoi, have had a very similar sound. Which is this very heavy dance music, and it’s something I have honestly come to expect from SKE48. I know obviously all of their songs can’t sound exactly the same, but so far they pretty much have. So, why ruin a good thing? I don’t know about most people, SKE48’s singles are the exact sound I expect from all my idol groups. Which is why I love upbeat groups like Passpo and Momoiro Clover Z, and tend to complain when songs aren’t upbeat. Okie Dokie is pretty upbeat, however the music isn’t quite there yet. They could have pushed it a bit further. And I actually don’t like that this song is called Okie Dokie. Okie dokie isn’t really a “cool” English phrase you really want to incorporate into a song. The phrase okie dokie itself is pretty dorky and slightly childish, and whenever it’s used it’s a phrase people pretty much laugh at because of how dated its become. So, having them say Okie Dokie about 10 times makes me laugh a bit. And can I just say that when Jurina said Okie Dokie Ikuzo, it immediately reminded me of when ManoEri says Genkimono de Ikou. XD
The song might be a little average to me, but there’s one thing SKE48 always gets right and that’s the PV. SKE48 past 4 PVs have been very elaborate and over the top. They have had a lot of elements and have been extremely interesting to watch. And it’s nice to see that they seem to be keeping up the pace. The PV is actually really cheaply made. But it’s one of those PVs that are so interesting you hardly notice how low budget the PV actually is. There is so much going on in this PV. There are cheerleaders in the background, and interesting night life type of setting with neon signs, and really interesting scenes with them dancing in water in 80’s inspiried outfits. And I absolutely love the neon writing overlays on their close-up shots. So far, SKE48 seem to have hot this one out of the park. I doubt there’s much more going on in the full version of this PV, but I’m ok with that. The PV is entertaining enough how it is now.
It was just announced that Watarirouka Hashiritai7 will be announcing their 9th single. The single is still untitled but will be released on November 30th.
A lot of fans seem to have a problem with it being yet another Watarirouka Hashiritai7 single. And I tend to agree with that. I thought they were only supposed to be 7 for Valentine Kiss. I guess they are officially Watarirouka Hashiritai7 from now on. Which doesn’t really bother me. It’s not like Mika or Misaki get that many lines anyway. As always I am completely excited for this release. Especially since Hetappi Wink was awesome. Well, the song was ok, but the PV was amazing.

AKB48 sub-group Not Yet announced they are releasing their 3rd single. The single is entitled Pera Pera Perao and will be released on November 16th. A short PV preview for the single has also been released.
The preview is only about 50 seconds long so it’s hard to really get a feel for the song, since we only hear the chorus. But when I can hear of it sounds absolutely adorable. What is so interesting about Not Yet is each single their sound completely changes. The single is a the typical type of idol songs that I absolutely love. Yeah, it’s a tad generic but it’s fun and upbeat, and that’s all that really matters. Because of the way they preview is we only get to see 20 seconds of the PV. The PV has a restaurant/waitress theme, and features the girls in a 50’s styled dinner wearing adorable waitress uniforms. What I like about the PV is that the set is very vibrant and interesting. The PV also shows Not Yet standing next to little boys, which is apparently supposed to be following the lyrics of the song. But since I can’t understand them, that meaning is lost on me. XD Another interesting aspect of this is that they have random backup dancers in the PV. Which isn’t really something that AKB48 or their sub-groups really do. I think it adds a nice element to the PV and makes them standout more as a sub-group.

The full PV for AKB48’s Kaze wa Fuiteiru was released a few days ago.
And I have to say I am just competely dissapointed by everything about this single. Since this single is a charity single it seems like they are using that as an excuse to not even try to do anything with it. The song itself is boring. The lyrics are supposed to be encouraging and tell you that after despair and pain there’s happiness. And that the wind will always blow so let go of everything you’ve lost, and just start over. And I get it, it makes perfect sense for people of lost everything during the earthquake. But I’m just not into it. The lyrics feel stale, and it’s the same type of meaningful song that AKB48 always makes. I’m just not impressed by it. The lyrics are pretty, but I’ve just heard it all before. And as for the PV it is for too simple. Fans can tell me all they want that it has to be simple because it’s a charity song. And that’sreally not true. You can put effort into a PV without spending that much money. Or if that’s really the case and this single is mainly to help Japan, they could have asked cameramen, light people, costume designer all to donate their time and resources for the greater good. I’m pretty sure St. Jude Children’s Hospital does similar things to film their commericals. Or if AKB48 couldn’t do that why didn’t they follow real people that were effected during the disaster and show their struggle and how they are moving on. Which would have been virtually free to film. Or AKB48 could have made their own storyline showing just that. Or they could have done something like showing all of the girls wandering through the woods scared and alone. Falling down and struggling. And then joining together in the end to show that their are strength in number and you can get through anything. Which is also pretty cheap, because they could have used the same set and just added some trees. And that’s basically what the covers for this single show. The covers, I think, are really beautiful. They are sad looking and beautiful at the same time, and the girls are styled amazingly. Where was that in the PV? So, this being a charity single doesn’t really give the PV an excuse to be horrible boring. It honestly feels like AKB48 just isn’t trying in this PV. They know they could make a song with them sneezing, and the PV could be them dressed in potato sacks, and it would still sell a million copies. And riding the fame wave like that makes their music stale. All of the singles for 2011 are are the same ones from 2010, and their album Koko ni Ita Koto, was pretty awful in my opinion. And I know since this is idol music I shouldn’t be expecting a lot anyway, but I want it to at least feel like they are trying. This PV is nothing but a danceshot, and other idol groups have been bashed for less. It feels like because AKB48 is on the top fans, and management, feel they can do no wrong.
What’s with magical doors in idol PVs anymore. And look how cheaply made the backdrop is. You can see every different square fabric easily.
Oh, AKB48 is entering from sepia world, how sad.
Gee nice dresses.
They’d be even better if they were actually original.
Completely necessary leg close-up.
Even the dance is too simple.
I can’t stand how frumpy and dowdy they look in this PV.
Somehow Mayu still manages to look cute though.
The way they are styled it’s a little hard to tell who is who. I had to think for a second before I realized this was Mariko.
The full PV for NBM48’s 2nd single, Oh My God!, has been released. It was actually released two days ago, but I’ve been avoiding writing about it.
And I’ve been avoiding it because the PV preview didn’t exactly set the bar high for this PV. And in that sense, the PV didn’t disappoint. Because the full PV was just as boring as the PV preview. So, congratulations to NMB48. They are nothing if not consistent. The PV is pretty much the same as the PV preview shows NBM48 dancing on the grass in school uniforms and cheerleading uniforms. But they also throw in some scenes of the girls playing an intense soccer match. Personally, I find sport incredibly boring. I don’t bother sitting through real sport let along simulated ones. So, having soccer in it at all made me enjoy the PV less right off the bat. But I guess it’s supposed to add an element of excitment to the PV or make it more dynamic. Or they want you to root for NMB48, because they are being beaten horrible in the PV. Most likely to subconsciously get you used to the idea of rooting for NMB48. This PV doesn’t really end the story. Apparently there’s an even longer version on the DVD. But I can’t be bothered to sit through a PV longer than about 6 minutes. I’m willing to bet that NMB48 comes from behind, as an utter cliche, and wins the macth. Which could also symbolize to the viewer to keep rooting for NMB48, because no matter how long it takes they will eventually win. Maybe I’m just reading too much into the PV. But when there’s absolutely nothing going on in the PV, I’d like to think there’s some greater meaning behind it. Granted most idol PVs are as meaningless as they come.
And I don’t care already.
There are actually some elements of te dance that are adorable. And overall, the dance seems extremely polished.
Jumping always increases the fun factor.
Hurry run, whatshername! I swear I will eventally know all the names of the 48 groups besides AKB48.
Of course I know Sayaka and Nana though. They seem to be pushed the most. Sayaka is a little odd looking, but is also pretty cute.
Oh man, they are actually playing soccer. I don’t know if I can contain my excitment.
Headband chick looks cute. Too bad you can’t really tell in this cap.
Quick, everyone act like they are falling down.
Are they serious with this move right now? It’s times like this I don’t understand why I don’t just drop everything and become an idol choreographer. It doesn’t look too hard.
Even the coach is displeased.
Maybe I don’t watch soccer enough, but wouldn’t it be extremely easy to catch up 3 point?
Am I the only one focusing on the random jazz hands dance in the background?
They sure love to show them fall down a lot in this PV. And this is the first timed I noticed they are signed to laugh out laugh records. That explains why this PV is such a joke. XD
Oh, it’s on now! Their best player has arrived. I guess there was some big falling out a la Oogoe Diamond.
Why are the player handing out water to the audience? That’s completely backwards.
She’s finally here! I always knew she’d come!
Creepy angle. Maybe that’s just because I don’t find 18 girls looking down at me appealing. But that’s just me.
Couldn’t they have made the cheerleading outfits actually cute?
This is the most awkward part of the whole PV.
I don’t get it. Just because they make one good player return, doesn’t mean suddenly the rest of the team is going to suck less now. Unless they are trying to say, when that girl wasn’t there it threw off the entire team. Cliche!
I feel bad for the one girl who wasn’t included. And way to not even make an actual cheerleading pyramid.
Sayaka is almost frightening looking at times.
I don’t find this endearing, you’re not going to suck me in like that. Give me a good song and PV, then we’ll talk.
The PV preview for NMB48’s upcoming second single, Oh My God!, has been released. And of course it has to be one of those 2 and a half inute PV previews that completely ruins the full PV.
However, there’s not really much to ruin. Mostly because there’s not really much going on in the preview. Most of the preview shows the members of NMB48 dancing in school uniforms on the grass in front of a school. And I got immediate flashbacks to AKB48’s Aitakatta PV and Buono’s Honto no Jibun PV. And then in the blink of an eye it’s randomly night and they are dancing in cheerleading uniforms. Which make me think of SNSD’s Oh! music video, but not in a good way. Because Oh! blows this way out of the water. And I am just completely at loss for words here. This PV is equal parts cheap and boring. It looks like this is a PV they would make for one of their B-sides. The PV as a whole is just completely useless. I don’t understand what happened to NMB48’s spark. Both the song and PV for Zetsumetsu Kurokami Shoujo were amazing. I mean, it hooked me into NMB48. But now they give us Oh My God!, and it’s just awful.
It was announced recently that NMB48 will be relasing their second single. The single is entitled Oh My God! and will be released on October 19th. With exactly 1 month until the release date we also have a radio rip for the song. Quite honestly, this single seems incredibly rushed to me.
I am a little dissapointed by the song. It’s nowhere near as strong as their debut single. The music and singing are both too simple, soft, and bland. To me it sounds like the B-sides that AKB48 releases. I’m not hearing a sound that is uniquely NMB48. This song is incredibly forgetable. Which is sad, because I absolutely loved Zetsumetsu Kurokami Shoujo. With so many AKB48 sister groups to keep track of it seems like they honestly don’t know what to do with NMB48. Which makes me worried about what HKT48 will sound like.
You can of course purchase this single from CDJapan by clicking the links below.
It was announced at a recent handshake event for Pareo wa Emerald, that SKE48 willl be releasing a 7th single. The single is entitled Okie Dokie and will be released on November 9th. The single will also include a voting card to vote for SKE48′s Request Hour Best 50.
I am actually really excited for this release. SKE48’s last 3 singles have been consistantlly amazing. I’m really looking forward to seeing what type of song this will be. Since it’s called Okie Dokie, it’s pretty obvious that the song is going to be upbeat. If SKE48 releases antother song as good as their last ones, it would further the rivalry even more between AKB48, as to which is my favorite 48 group.
A PV preview for AKB48’s upcoming 23rd single, Kaze ga Fuiteiru, has just been released. The preview is abut 30 seconds long which is just long enough to get a taste of the PV without actually ruining it.
I don’t even know what to say about this right now. Unimpressed isn’t a strong enough word for how I feel about this PV and song. I am so dissapointed with everything I see and hear. For starters the song is so lackluster. The verse, or what I assume is the verse, is kind of interesting. It has this sort of Spanish sounding music with horns. But even though that part sounds nice it’s still boring. It feels bland and completely toned down. They could have gone much bigger with that music. And the music during the bridge and chorus doesn’t get much better. The music in that section of the song is basically just the same clapping sound repeated over and over. It’s the same kind on constant beat they do in club music, except the music isn’t as exciting or over the top as club music. And the singing doesn’t even complement the song. In the very beginning of this song it doesn’t even sound like AKB48. I can’t even tell which member(s) is singing that part. There’s just this weird tone in the singing, that I’m just completely not feeling it. Throughout the rest of the song the singing is pretty monotone. There seems to be hardly any emotion or energy in the singing. Even without understanding the lyrics I can tell that this song is meant to be more serious. But just because a song has a serious message doesn’t mean it can’t be catchy. Beginner was completely serious but also completely serious. All of Morning Musume’s “emo Musume era” songs were 100 times catchier than this. It honestly feels like they aren’t even trying with this single. It’s like they know they are going to sell at least a million by their name alone, so they aren’t putting as much effort into it. It’s the same thing Arashi has done with some of their singles.
Sadly, the PV is just as bland as the song. In this short PV we see AKB48 dancing on a desolate road, in gloomy bland peasant dresses. The whole PV just has this somber and depressing atmosphere. And I’m sorry absolutely everything about this scream Morning Musume’s “Emo Musume” style. Even the outfits! I know I’m not the only one who sees that AKB48 are styled nearly identical to the way Morning Musume was in the Nanchatte Renai PV. If the dresses weren’t that hideous bland seafoam green color, but black instead, you wouldn’t really be able to tell the difference. AKB48 fans were quick to say how much AKB48 was better than Morning Musume’s sad/emo phase. But now that AKB48 is a releasing song like this, I’m sure the AKB48 fans will eat this up anyway. Now, I’m not saying this because I like Morning Musume more. Even though I do. My personal perfeerance has nothing to do with the statement I just made. I’m saying this because I never understood the, pretty much, fan wars between AKB48 and Morning Musume/H!P. Both idol groups release almost exactly the same music, and have almost exactly the same dances. Which is why I never understood how you could hate one but love the other. It’s just extremely petty. Both groups are the same, it seems like fans are doing it feel elitist. Like my group is the top female idol group, and yours isn’t. I hope AKB48 fans are enjoying their moment on the top. Because it is fleeting. Just ask Morning Musume. Despite what fans want to believe, eventually AKB48 will have their fall from grace. It could honestly be any day know the way their sister groups and sub-groups are oversaturating the market. I honestly wish their fall would happen soon. But not for any selfish reasons. Once AKB48 isn’t the top idol group anymore, I think there will be less drama between fans.
I’m sure I’ll get a lot of backlash from this post. I seem to always get backlash when I dare say anything negative about AKB48. But that’s what I do on this blog, I post my honest opinions. On pretty much every post I make I’m complaining about something. XD
Well, this is getting extremely off subject. Here’s the preview for you to form your own opinion.
