Preview of Morning Musume’s new song Brainstorming

MorningMusume

A loose shot version of a new song by Morning Musume called Brainstorming has been uploaded to their official channel. I saw new song because even though Morning Musume’s 53rd single has been confirmed this song hasn’t officially been confirmed to be a part of it. But right now it seems pretty likely that this song is most likely going to be another A-side for their 53rd single. Since this is Reina’s last single it would only make sense to have a double A-side single, much like what Ai-chan got.

However, we also can’t completely rule out the possibility that this may be part of a yet unannounced Morning Musume album. It’s still 3 months until Reina is graduating. And if you remember Morning Musume’s 11th album was announced just 3 months before the triple graduations of Kamei Eri, JunJun, and LinLin. Granted, the space between the release dates of Momusu’s 10th and 11th albums was 9 months, and that was rushed enough. If this album was released on the exact date of Reina’s graduation it would be released 8 months after their 13th album. It would be the quickest new album in Momusu history, but it’s still in the realm of possibility. No matter how slight it is. Especially since they’ve been squeezing out one final album with their most prominent members. And Reina is both a prominent member and a good singer.

Well enough speculating, and more on the actual song. Since this is a loose shot version we a preview of everything: the song, the outfits, and the dance. Which is really exciting since their 53rd single is being released in a little less than 2 months. Well, assuming it’s part of the 53rd single at all.

Let’s start with the song itself. I have to say it was absolutely love at first listen. The opinions are of course split though. A lot of people are annoyed that it’s yet another dance/electronic song. But I’m with the rest of them who honestly don’t care. Well, it’s not that I don’t care I just love electronic songs, as I’ve said 800 times before. So Momusu could keep on with this pace for 4 more releases and I honestly would love every minute of it.

What I really love about this song is that it’s a mix of 3 different types of music at once. It’s got rock, electronic, and dubstep. And instead of sounding like a disaster it’s actually really great. Mostly because rock is the main instrumental and then the electronic and dubstep parts are perfectly strung throughout the entire song so it’s not too overwhelming. And because of that it sounds a bit like a mix between Renai Hunter, Wakuteka Take A Chance, and Help Me. Which I’m perfectly fine with. Because the prominent rock music makes this song distinguishable and unique. It also makes it a lot more intense and powerful than those songs. Perfect for a possible final song for Reina.

Another thing I am pleased with is this song’s line distribution. Every single member gets a solo line. 8/11 of the members get a decent solo line, where it’s actually a line long and you can fully hear them. Sadly 3/11 of the girls do get Wakuteka Take A Chance type solos where it’s just 2 words at a time. Even sadder that my beloved Zukki and my secondary favorites Haruka and Erina are the members that get hardly any lines. But I am perfectly fine with it because Masaki’s and Sakura’s lines make up for it. Sakura’s lines were my absolute favorite in the entire song.

And I love that Mizuki is getting more of the spotlight, she got almost as many lines as Riho. The girl deserves main singer position. I’m also really impressed by Haruna. She unexpectedly got a solo line and she actually sounded good. Wow, she’s improved so much.

I also want to take about the outfits. I’m gonna skip the dance, since I’ll focus more on that once (if?) the full PV comes out. I absolutely love the outfits. They are these motorcycle jackets/ overall biker outfits, which give off this tough sort of yankee feel. Which is again perfect for Reina. And just like in One Two Three the girls with the sexier image are given a slightly different outfit. Everyone has ankle boots. But Reina, Riho, Mizuki, Haruna, and Sayumi either have thigh-high boots or thigh-high stockings. Which again do work with the outfits better and I kinda wish everyone had them. Also, it’s cute that Haruka is wearing another hat. I guess that’s going to become her thing.

Tegomass – Sayonara ni Sayonara PV Preview

Tegomass

The PV preview for Tegomass’ first single since the NEWS return, and their first single in 2 years, Sayonara ni Sayonara was released.

Can I just say when I first heard Tegomass was going to continue making music I was a little confused. And honestly I’m still confused. How does it make sense to keep their little sub-group going? I understood the point of it when they were releasing stuff on NEWS’ downside. But now that Ryo and Yamapi are gone NEWS doesn’t have a down side! Now it’s Tegomass that will keep NEWS from releasing stuff, are you serious? I do realize that NEWS released  2 single in close proximity of each other, a best album, and a new DVD. So, technically that means they should be on a break right now. But I’m complaining  more about them doing this in the future. And what sense does it make to have 2 members actively releasing singles and the other half not doing anything?

Kei-chan and Shige always got the bad side of the deal with NEWS because of how unpopular they are. They did basically nothing and always had to wait for Yamapi, Tegomass, and Kanjani8 to not be releasing something just so they could. And now that they’ve been through that ordeal and continue on with NEWS, they have to wait even more in the future. No wonder Shige went to law school and wrote 2 books. He most definitely has the time!

Remember the joke at NEWS’ Live Live Live concert that KoyaShige was going to release their debut single? Yeah, I actually wish that was true. Because let me tell you, the few album songs KoyaShige have are 100% better than practically any of Tegomass’ releases.

Well, sorry about that little impromptu rant, I should get back to the topic at hand.

Since this is a 15 second Dwango commercial it is extremely hard to get a feel of the PV at all. Literally the only thing we see so far are the members sitting in a room looking at a women out the window. Also it’s raining cherry blossoms, Massu is wearing 2 pairs of pants, and Tegoshi still looks like a women.

There’s honestly nothing else I can really say about this PV, so look forward to my PV review of this song. Or maybe don’t because both the PV and song are so lackluster so far that it’s not going to really be a positive review.

Arashi – Breathless PV preview

Arashi

A PV preview for Arashi’s second A-side Breathless, off of their upcoming double A-side single  Calling / Breathless, was released. This song will be used as the theme for Ninomiya Kazunari’s new movie Platina Data.

When I first heard the preview to Calling I was a little under whelmed and said I was now looking forward to Breathless to see if it’s a better song. Now, ironically, I actually have gotten used to Calling and love it now, I can’t really say the same for Breathless. What I can hear of the song is just ok. Calling is a much bigger song and has a very distinct rock sound. While Breathless is a little slower. Somehow it’s a dance track but at the same time still slow paced. I don’t know how they even manged to do that, but they did. Hopefully it’s just cause the song needs to grow on me like Calling did.

I actually even like the Calling PV more than the Breathless PV. Obviously they are both just previews, and it’s hard to make that judgement just yet. But so far Calling seems to have way more going on. The only plus so far is that the guys are dressed in all black and look absolutely gorgeous. It’s even one of those rare occasions that even Aiba looks a little cute.

Despite the visual appeal of the guys, there’s not much going on. They’re dressed all in black and dancing on an all black set which reminds me a lot of the set they danced on in their Believe PV. So, far the PV focuses heavily on dancing which makes me think it’s gonna be another Lotus or Crazy Moon ~Kimi ni Muteki~ where the PV is mostly dancing with a little close-up or 3/4 dancing and a random room shot. In this preview you do see the guys in some sort of blue light over them. But since this is only a preview it’s impossible to tell how often those scene are going to be used in the full PV.

Berryz Celebration

BerryzKoubou

Recently Berryz Koubou’s PV for Asian Celebration was released.

And I have to admit I’ve really been waiting for this PV to be released. I’ve been instantly in love with the song since I first heard it. Just everything about it is just perfect. And it’s a real improvement from their lackluster Want.

Even thought the song is incredible, I’m only mildly impressed with the PV. Since the song is an electronic dance song they went for the most obvious PV theme, a dance club. In my review for Kisumai’s Shake It Baby PV I said how I find club PV to be boring because of how similar every club PV ever made is. And that’s painfully true in Asian Celebration’s case. Not only did they copy most club PVs, they copied their own club PV.

When I first watched this all I could think of is how incredibly similar to their Dakishimete Dakishimete PV.

DakishimeteAsian

To such an extent it kind of looks like the sequel to Dakishimete Dakishimete, rather than its own PV.

The sets are understandably not 100% the same. Instead of speakers being prominent instead the Asian Celebration PV is filled with disco balls. Both PVs also have vibrant club lights.

DakishimeteAsia2

In Dakishimete Dakishimete it’s lasers and lights from disco balls, while in Asian Celebration it’s sparkles and lights from the disco balls.

And of course the most blatant similarity is the DJ booth.

DakishimeteAsian3

In both PVs it’s in the same exact place, and throughout each PV the members take turns being the DJ. And the sad part is, the Dakishimete Dakishimete PV is actually a better PV. It just has more things going on to make it more fun.

H!P PV directors have just brought lack of creativity to a whole new level. Nothing says “I’m out of ideas,” quite like copying a PV you’ve already made. But in Berryz defense it is hard to make a club themed PV anymore that’s completely original. I think NEWS’ Koi no ABO is one of the few cases where they had a club PV that was unique. Having them be hosts in the club made for a lot of different elements in the PV and interesting scenes. But it’s not like Berryz could make a PV like that. Especially since that’s the exact theme Dream Morning Musume used for their Shining Butterfly PV.

There is a plus to this PV however, and that’s how fun the PV actually looks. I really like that they girls look like they genuinely had fun shooting this PV. The girls just look so natural and pretty. I think everyone is styled exceptionally well. Those outfits are amazing, mostly because I’m a sucker for zebra print. And I have to say that surprisingly Captain stood out the most for me. As much as they were shoving Miyabi in my face every second I think Saki really shined in this PV. She actually did have quite a big of focus on her this PV, and she used what screen time she had really well.

AsianCelebration

Nice DJ equipment.

AsianCelebration2

A lot of people don’t like Miya’s hair in this PV, but I think she looks adorable with it.

AsianCelebration3

Wait, is she wearing circle lenses? Her eyes look different here.

AsianCelebration4

Love love love these outfits. I also really love the rainbow colored floor.

AsianCelebration5

Adorable Chii.

AsianCelebration6

Risako sexing up the place.

AsianCelebration7

Yurina looks simply gorgeous here.

AsianCelebration8

Wow Momoko doesn’t have her Momochi hair. How is the world still spinning?

AsianCelebration9

So cute. But I don’t really like this hair on her.

AsianCelebration10

Never mind, I change my mind. Miya looks pretty sexy here.

AsianCelebration11

Flawless Rii.

AsianCelebration12

This PV is overflowing with Miyabi.

AsianCelebration13

Too such an extent it’s hard to even seen the other members.

AsianCelebration14

Cuteness overload.

AsianCelebration15

I love how carefree Chinami looks.

AsianCelebration16

Wow Saki looks fantastic here.

AsianCelebration17

Just so gorgeous.

AsianCelebration18

Momoko still looks cute without her usual hairstyle.

AsianCelebration19

You’re killing me here.

AsianCelebration20

Even here Saki is bringing it.

AsianCelebration21

Adorable.

AsianCelebration22

Maasa is so pretty.

AsianCelebration23

Yurina. *O*

AsianCelebration24

This is such an awkward part of the dance.

AsianCelebration25

Just wow Saki.

AsianCelebration26

Super cute.

AsianCelebration27

Gorgeous.

AsianCelebration28

Saki. *O*

AsianCelebration29

Adorable.

Shocking exposé of KAT-TUN’s expose

KAT-TUNExpose

A few weeks ago the full PV for KAT-TUN’s recent single, Expose, was released.

And that means I’ve bringing you another installment of “PVs I put off reviewing because they are far too boring.” This time it’s obviously KAT-TUN’s PV. Also, this obviously isn’t really an expose, but I couldn’t pass up making that pun.

Is it just me or are KAT-TUN’s PVs getting more and more boring? KAT-TUN seem to be releasing extremely cheap PVs, then once you can’t take it anymore they throw you a few decent PVs just so you won’t lose interest completely. But right after that it’s back to horrible cheap PVs. To me it seems that H!P PVs are so cheap because they don’t want to spend too much money on a PV for a single that’s not going to sell all that well. But with Johnny’s it seems they make cheap PVs because their singles do sell a lot, and they’re still going to sell the same no matter how cheap the PV is so they figure why make an expensive PV?

Now, as a pretty critical fan I don’t really like cheap PVs. Well, I don’t think anyone actually likes cheap PVs. But they’re obviously a non-issue for most people since they keep making them. Curse you domestic fans who don’t care about PV quality. And since I actually do care about PVs, I’m going to continue to rip this PV, and any other cheaply made PV, to shreds.

When I first watched this PV I almost couldn’t believe this what they think passed for a PV. Most of the PV is shot from overhead, which is extremely annoying. It’s kind of like the effect of you looking down at KAT-TUN from a telescope. So they either look like ants you can barely make out, or you can actually see them clearly but the angle makes them looked squished and terrible. Not only is that bad enough, but they are also standing in what can be compared to a cave. Because they are in almost complete blackness and standing on water. The black backdrop and only having light shine on the members makes them fade completely into the background.

Luckily, that cave looking set only lasts for about 1/4 of the PV and they do lighten things up a bit. However, that just means they take the same exact water set they are on and turn into a day time set. Also, don’t forget to add some CG fog and and a CG rippling water effect that looks so obviously fake. And half of this KAT-TUN PV consists of them just splashing around in water. I thought I was watching Morning Musume’s Shabondama PV for a second.

There’s also this intense minute long rain scene for absolutely no reason. Seriously, it serves no purpose at all in the PV other than adding another water related element. I guess it technically clears things up a bit, because right after that they’re standing in front of some giant wooden bird that they bored from Arashi’s Lotus PV.

What I find so funny about this PV is how intense the members look throughout it. As if this PV is more serious than them just splashing around in water.

EXpose

There’s nothing I like more than fog you can’t see through.

Expose2

No, no it’s not hard to see them at all.

Expose3

Are you serious right now?

Expose4

Well, at least you can see the splash clearly. They know what the fans want.

Expose5

Oh look it’s my beloved Koki, I wonder how he looks in the PV? Too bad I have no idea.

Expose6

At this point these are close-ups.

Expose7

Kokame shot. Sorry couldn’t resist.

Expose8

There’s no dance so that lets Taguchi do whatever that’s about in the back.

Expose9

Yeah splash that water around intensely.

MorningMusumeShabondama

Because after all, all love is just soap bubbles.

Expose10

I’m sick of all the splashing already.

Expose11

Can’t stand that this is how close it gets.

Expose12

Well, this does make it easier to see. But I still don’t like it.

Expose13

Oh man, this PV is so intense.

Expose14

Taguchi’s been looking pretty cute lately. So, I’m sad that you can’t even see him clearly.

Expose15

Kame manages to look good from pretty much any angle.

Expose16

So, we can finally see them clearly, but now too much fake sun is blocking them. Why must you toy with me like this?

Expose17

That face.

Expose18

Why does it look like rain mixed with snow?

Expose19

So close to a clear shot.

Expose20

Now they’re just making it took bad on purpose.

Expose21

Ok, creepy wooden thing.

Expose22

Yeah, this is the face I’ve been waiting the entire PV to see.

Expose23

This too.

Expose24

Finally!

Expose25

So, it’s a bird.

ArashiLotus

Too bad Arashi’s already done that.

Expose26

I have admit, these scenes are pretty cool.

Expose27

Koki’s such a cutie.

C-ute’s newest PV has me lost for words

C-uteKonoMachi

Nearly a month ago the full PV for C-ute’s newest single, Kono Machi, was released.

I know, I know, this post is way overdue. And I do apologize. But after seeing the PV preview and how simple the PV was I was so uninspired to write this PV review. I’m actually still uninspired, but it’s been a month and I’m sure my lovely readers have been waiting for this.  And I try not to be one to disappoint.

Sadly, after seeing the full PV my feelings towards it have remained exactly the same. The PV is so boring, and so simple, that I honestly don’t even know what to say about it.   This PV is literally one of the cheapest, simplest, and most boring idol PVs I’ve ever seen. I know I say that a lot with H!P PVs. Well, actually I say that this is the worst PV in H!P history a lot. But honestly I feel like I have to say that again, because it actually seems completely accurate and not an exaggeration this time. I mean this PV is almost at KAT-TUN’s Ultimate Wheels level of absolutely nothing going on.

The main theme of this PV is walking, which is something we’ve seen before in H!P with Buono’s co.no.mi.chi and W’s Aa ii na PVs. But what made those PVs fun, and actually watchable, was that even though they were poorly made they made up for it by having different places they walked in front of, different outfits, and had different sets for the dance scenes. Well, this song is too slow and doesn’t have dancing, so I’m obviously not really counting that, but you get my point.

In the Kono Machi PV each member is walking on the exact same town backdrop. Which I actually don’t like because the town has this weird block or mosaic look to it, and it makes it look too fake. Buono’s and W’s CG obviously looked more obviously fake, but at least they tried to play it up more that it was real by interacting with things in the background. The Kono Machi PV also has these split screen shots with two or more members, and the way that each of them are cut and pasted together just looks really bad and really cheap.

The rest of the PV is just them sitting in this really drab and washed-out gray room, just sitting on boxes much like in Morning Musume Kanashimi Twilight PV. Which I get that they only included for a little variety because of the lack of dancing. But it just makes an already simple PV look even more simple. Sadly, this is also the backdrop they use for the close-up shots, which was really a poor choice in my opinion.

Much like every simple PV the only thing that it’s got going for it is the girls themselves. And my god do they look gorgeous! The outfits for this PV are probably one of my favorite outfits C-ute has ever worn. Second only to the outfits they wore for their 3rd Love Escalation album jackets. I just absolutely love the marching band-esque type tops and their boots are incredible. Like I wish I could somehow grab them through my computer screen. Everyone’s hair is also really pretty. Especially Airi’s and Nakky’s. And Mai’s blonde hair makes her look super mature. Like, it’s incredible how much she’s grown up.

KonoMachi

I think the font forming a town skyline is so a cool effect.

KonoMachi2First shot of the PV and Airi looks gorgeous already.

KonoMachi3

Airi is just killing me right now.

KonoMachi4

There’s that weird mosaic town that kinda looks like a blanket.

KonoMachi5

I actually don’t think this hair suits Chisato. She looks so much prettier with a darker shade.

KonoMachi6

Mai Mai looking so fresh and mature.

KonoMachi7

I get that the song is called this town, but are we really going to see nothing but shots of the town?

KonoMachi8

Time for some obviously fake, completely unnatural walking.

KonoMachi9

Maimi is such a beauty.

KonoMachi10

Chisa kinda looks like an elf here. It’s the hair! And the fact that he ears are showing. XD

KonoMachi11

Wow, that hair is working for you Saki.

KonoMachi12

Cannot get over how mature and gorgeous Mai looks!

KonoMachi13

You have no idea how annoyed I am that Airi’s earrings say two different things. Lol.

KonoMachi14

Oh, what a lovely set you have.

MorningMusumeKanashimiTwilight

I liked it better when Momusu did it.

KonoMachi15

Those shoes, I need them.

KonoMachi16

That split screen is just terrible.

KonoMachi17

Adorable.

KonoMachi18

This split screen is even worse.

KonoMachi19

I love how everyone else is doing an idoly poses, and then Mai is just standing there with a blank expression.

KonoMachi20

I never really noticed before, but Nakky is pretty good at conveying subtle emotions.

KonoMachi21

Look how pretty and not elf-like Chisa looks with her ears covered.

KonoMachi22

So cute.

KonoMachi23

Love and peace is all Airi is wishing for today. (Get it? Bad Momusu joke.)

KonoMachi24

Nakky’s smile is super infectious.

The no dating rule and Johnny’s special treatment

MinegishiMinami

By now I’m sure everyone in the entire Japanese music fandom is aware of AKB48 member, Minegishi Minami’s, recent scandal. And if you’re not you must really be living under a rock because even Western media picked up the story. But if for some reason you’re still not aware of it, the shorthand is this: a tabloid magazine came out with pictures of Mii-chan leaving Shirahama Alan’s, a member of EXILE, house. Then the next day a video was uploaded to AKB48’s official youtube channel where she deeply apologized and shaved her head. Well, as close to a full shave as possible. And it was said how she was demoted down to Kenkyuusei level. The video has since been removed from the channel and Mii-chan even made her debut as a Kenkyuusei recently sporting a wig.

The whole situation has left a bad taste in my mouth. Mostly because I’ve always been on the fence on the no dating idol rule. On one hand it seems to be 1,000% sure that the girls have to sign some sort of morals clause in their contract. And it would seem even if we don’t like the no dating rule it probably voids their entire contract and therefore have every right to be fired. But on the other hand I’m also caught between what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. How is it fair that Johnny’s aren’t held to the same intense criticism and punishment that female idols are held to?

Now, the main argument is that Japan is a sexist and misogynistic country. And that is true, they got something like number 101 on the list of countries with the most rights. And the way the entertainment industry is run has nothing to do with how the entire country is run. In Japan it’s frowned upon for women to wear too revealing clothes in public. Then shouldn’t gravure idols as a whole not exist because it’s not an innocent enough profession? Shouldn’t they only be sold on the outskirts of town? And women in Japan usually leave their jobs to be full time housewives, but female celebrities don’t stop being celebrities to be a wife and mother.

And even if the entertainment industry was 100% the way Japan as a whole is does that mean we should just look the other way and go, “well that’s just how they do things in Japan?” And the answer to that is no. It’s 2013. Turning a blind eye only makes things stay the same. Maybe if more fans (domestic fans anyway) were outraged by this things would change. And it’s not like the entire country agrees with the way the Mii-chan situation is being handled. Japanese netizens gave their opinion about the situation and a bunch of them said, “It’s against human rights to do this,” or, “She didn’t do anything wrong,” or, “Does this make her fans happy?”

And in my opinion she didn’t really do anything wrong, but because she had the misfortune of being a female idol instead of a male idol she got the full brunt of this. And as awful as it sounds, she even made out better than a lot of female idols do. Even though she humiliated herself by groveling and shaving her head extremely short, she at least got to remain a member of the group. Whether she’s a Kenkyuusei or not. A lot of other female idols have had their careers destroyed just by having boyfriends.

So, what happens if you’re a Johnny’s idol? Or what about the scandals that have effected both male and female idols? If you look at the scandal involving A.B.C-Z member Hashimoto Ryosuke and C-ute member Arihara Kana and the scandal involving Hey! Say! JUMP member Takaki Yuya and 9nine member Kato Rubi.

JEScandal5

If you follow any of those groups you’ll know exactly what happened. Rubi’s and Kanna’s departures from their groups were both a direct effect of their scandals. You can say, “Well, actually Kanna’s wasn’t.” Really? Really? Do you really believe she honestly left because of a bunion? And not because right before she went on hiatus fans booed her at the Edo no Temari Uta II handshake event?

How about an update on Ryosuke or Takaki. Obviously absolutely nothing happened to them. Do you remember hearing Johnny’s even mentioning either rumor? Do you remember either member even getting remotely punished? Ryosuke was just a Junior, and he was only recently added to the already established A.B.C. Junior group from JJ Express. And this scandal happened a month before Hey! Say! JUMP’s debut single went on sale. They could have easily gotten rid of both guys without much of an impact to either group. But they didn’t. They didn’t even pretend to care.

With that it must seem like Johnny’s are actually allowed to date. But au contraire mon frere, they actually aren’t. Johnny’s still have a no dating rule. The only upside to their no dating rule is that once they reach a certain age it no longer applies to them. I always thought 30 was the age, but someone else said it was 25. So now I’m not 100% sure of the age. But let’s just split the difference and say it’s between the age of 25 and 30. Back when Takaki had his scandal he was 17, and during Ryosuke’s scandal he was 16. Which means they broke the rules. And yet nothing happened to them. Every single Johnny’s member has been involved in dating scandals before they were allowed to date. So why didn’t anything happen to them? The only rule they seem to be strict on is the marriage ban. Which is ridiculous. Who cares if you can’t get married if you can still date?

Let’s now look at some Johnny’s scandals.

JEScandal

JEScandal2

JEScandal3

JEScandal4

When has a female scandal ever been anywhere near this bad really? Besides Sashihara Rino’s boob flashing and that one time someone was accused of compensated dating.

But these are just the scandals that are seen in photos. What about what the tabloids that just write about Johnny’s? It’s been written that Nishikido Ryo bite some chick in a club, kicked a girl out of a cab because she refused to sleep with him, and that he frequents pink salons. They wrote that Ninomiya Kazunari was a sexual powerhouse. There was a rumor that Yamashita Tomohisa had a sex tape. (Not gonna lie, I kinda wish that one was true.) And just recently there was a rumor that Matsumoto Jun goes to a club lines up all the girls that want to kiss him and picks one. And these are just the ones I remember. Can you imagine what would happen if any female idol had any of this written about them? Yet Johnny’s get this kind of stuff written about them practically every week. They are constantly in tabloids with a new girl. Johnny’s have dated so many girls that the Johnny’s fandom had to make a chart to keep up with it.

Johnny'sChart

It seems like the only time that Johnny’s ever get punished is when they break the law. Morimoto Ryutaro was removed from Hey! Say! JUMP after underage smoking, and NEWS members Uchi Hiroki and Kusano Hironori were demoted to below Junior status for underage drinking. However, if you’re Kusanagi Tsuyoshi you can get arrested for running around naked while you’re drunk and have nothing happen to you.

Hey, maybe the unfairness is all because of the different fans that male and female idols have. I mean, female idols are marketed as pure and innocent. And wota make up a huge part of their sales, while male idols don’t have wota. I’m also going to shoot down that logic right now.

Both male and female idol groups have crazy and obsessive fans. It comes along with the idol territory. Besides wota flipping out and breaking CDs, burning photos, ripping up photos, and completely not supporting a girl anymore because of a boyfriend scandal, I actually think wota are a little more tame in comparison  For the most part the wota are very respectful. Sure, they stole I think Tokunaga Chinami’s (It was an H!P Kid member I just can’t remember which one exactly anymore.) phone. But for the most part they seem to leave the girls alone. Johnny’s fans might have the unwritten fandom rule or not approaching them on the train, and if you see them on the train move to another part. But that’s pretty much as respectful as some fans get.

Johnny’s have some really crazy fans, so crazy that they even have a name for them, and that name is Yarakashi. Yarakashi are basically really aggressive fans with extremely bad manners. They’ll attack groups they don’t like, yell over MCs at concerts, allegedly broke Nino’s thumb, etc. They apparently held up signs during KAT-TUN concerts telling Kame to die. However, the Yarakashi I’m most familiar with are the group of them that were obsessed with Hey! Say! JUMP. They were known as the Heisei Shojo Group.

HeiseiShojoGroup

These girls were so obsessed with Hey! say! JUMP that they would refer to themselves with their favorite member’s last name. Such as Nakajima Mare or Yamada Erika. They used to do things like camp outside the member’s schools and homes. One of the members even claimed to have forced Ryosuke to kiss her. They gathered at the Scrap Teacher set and yelled things at Chinen such as “Quite JUMP,” “You’re disgusting,” and, “Stop pretending to be a girl.” There was also that one time where a stalker stole Ryutaro’s phone. There was even a completely unrelated story about two Johnny’s fans getting arrested after they beat up, cut the hair of, and stole money from junior high school girl because she was allegedly texting a Johnny’s Junior member. They did all of this because they said the girl broke fan rules of exchanging information with Johnny’s talents on online message boards open to the public.

So, to think that Johnny’s is more lenient because female fans don’t care as much as male fans do is just ridiculous. I’d say dedicated Johnny’s fans are just as obsessed as hardcore wota.

I guess the whole point of this post is to show how unfair and sexist the idol industry truly is. And to some extent how ridiculous the no dating rule is. If they are going to have the no dating rule, can’t female agencies adapt the one Johnny’s has that lets you date at a certain age? Or if they refuse to that, then at least punish all idols the same way. To hold Johnny’s idols on a pedestal above female idols is just appalling, sexist, and just plain wrong. I’m a giant female idol and Johnny’s fan, and it’s obvious even to me that something has to be done about this. Do I think it’s going to happen any time soon? Sadly, I don’t. In a perfect world it would, but this is reality. And what us international fans think about this hardly matters on the grand scheme of things. But I hope domestic fans will stand up to this someday and make some real change happen.

Also, I welcome anyone else’s opinions about this and would love a comment to hear your thoughts. I know many people might not agree 100% with this post.

S/mileage – Tabidachi no Haru ga Kita preview

Smileage

A few days ago a short radio rip for S/mileage’s upcoming new single Tabidachi no Haru ga Kita was released.

So, I like to listen to radio rips at least 6 times before I ever start writing my posts on them, mostly because you don’t notice things like line distribution the first time around, or it takes a time or two to really get a feel for the song. But the time time I was listening to this song I kept thinking how it sounded really familiar especially the dun dun dun dun  in the music while they sing tabidachi no, but I couldn’t for the life of me remember what song also did that, and then it hit me.

This entire song sounds like a way toned down version of Morning Musume’s The Matenrou Show. Which explains why I’ve loved this song from the first listen. Obviously The Matenrou Show has more, what I’m guessing are horns, and has a more funk sound to it. But you can’t even deny that Tabidachi no Haru ga Kita as a whole sounds like something Morning Musume would sing. There are even parts where I hear a little bit of Seishun Collection in it. Both songs have those 2 or so violin notes right before they start singing the verse.

I do really like the sound of the song so far. Even if it reminds me of a few other songs. It’s a very sweet and light song. I enjoy it 100% more than I did Samui Ne. And it really does fit the feeling of spring.

Arashi – Calling PV preview

Arashi

Recently the PV preview for Calling, the first song off of Arashi’s upcoming double A-side single Calling/Breathless, was released.

I’m actually really impressed with the PV. It’s one of those times where a director turned a relatively cheap PV into something you actually want to watch. Which has been Arashi’s PV format since forever. But I really like the PV so far. The weird sets and and filter effects make this PV look like a mix between their Face Down PV and their Mada Minu Mekai E PV. I mean, at one point the use the same exact grungy blue filter effect that is used in face down.

But I love that the PV is has a nice contrast between dark scenes and vibrant scenes, much like Face Down. But the PV itself is more elaborate. There are a number of different sets, outfits, shots, and close-ups. There’s just enough going on that you’re not bored, and not too much that it takes away from the members themselves.

Also did I mention how delicious the members look in his PV? Especially Sho and Nino. It looks like Nino is back to his black hair. I had no idea, but it looks fantastic.

New H!P unit announced

KenshuuseiGroupA couple of days ago at the Hello!Project winter concert  a new unit made up of trainees was announced. This unit is going to be the first of several units announced. The unit will be indie at first and will work towards a possible major debut.  The name and final line-up will be announced if or when they make  their major debut. This first announced unit is made up of Hello!Project Kenshuusei members: Members are Miyamoto Karin, Kanazawa Tomoko, Miyazaki Yuka, Takagi Sayuki, Otsuka Aina, and Uemura Akari.

Now, that the news aspect of this post is over with the exciting part of this post can begin: my opinions. First off, let me start by saying how absolutely excited I am for this on so many levels! The first reason I’m excited is because oh my god new group! I have been waiting for a new group, especially a new group made up of Kenshuusei, since S/mileage made their major debut. To be honest nothing is more exciting then having a new group formed in one of your favorite agencies. Well, it’s not always an exciting thing, sometimes it’s Sexy Zone. While I’m a casual fan of the group, and don’t get me wrong, they are ok but they will never be my favorite Johnny’s group. And I honestly would be more excited if a group like Bakaleya6 debuted. But I’m getting a bit off topic now.

Group debuts are incredibly fun. Finding out the line-up and wondering what they’ll sound like and how they’ll work as a group. It’s just an incredibly fun and exciting experience. And those are exactly the emotions I’m feeling now. The first group that formed while I was a dedicated fan of H!P was S/mileage. (Obviously first group because I’m not counting short lived, or one shot groups, like High King, Shugo Chara Egg, etc.) And now S/mileage has become probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite H!P group overall. So, it’s fun to imagine and wonder if this group, or whatever group actually debuts, if they’ll be a group I love. And there’s far too much talent in the Kenshuusei to not debut another group.

Another reason why I’m excited about this unit is because of it’s members. Anyone out there that reads my blog will know that I’m obviously the most excited about Miyamoto Karin. I’ve been a big fan and wanted her to join a group or go solo since I first became a fan of hers during the S/mileage audition. I just absolutely love her voice. It’s easily one of the best, if not the best, voice in the Kenshuusei right now. Aside from Karin I think this group is very strong vocally. Aina, Sayuki, and Yuka all have very strong voices. And personally I’m excited that Aina and Yuka are in the group. I’ve been rooting for those girls since Aina auditioned for Momusu’s 9th gen and Yuka auditioned for S/mileage’s 2nd gen. I actually have no idea what the other girls sound like. But 4 strong vocals alone make this group worth checking out and keeping up with.

The other reason I’m excited for this is that it’s the first of many groups. There are 14 remaining Kenshuusei who’s units have yet to be announced. Which means we have at least 2 more units to look forward to. And that’s only if these new units are Kenshuusei only, which was never actually said. I’m just assuming from here. So, I also think there’s a slim chance that Tasaki Asahi could be included in one of the upcoming groups. And she debuted as part of the Satoyama Movement, so does that mean if the show ever ends that’s it for her solo career? I honestly don’t know. But I’m just throwing it out there as a possibility. And I also want to point out that among the remaining Kenshuusei are the other members who were part of the Kenshuusei’s first single Kanojo ni Naritai, which are Tanabe Nanami, Hamaura Ayano, and Taguchi Natsumi. I don’t know about the other girls but I know that Nanami is extremely popular, so whatever group she’s put in can really go up against Karin’s group.

I say go up against Karin’s group because it’s pretty obvious that not all of these new units will make their major debut. They said it with Karin’s group if or when they make their major debut the line-up will be announced. So, to me that means that either only one of these groups will actually debut, or they’ll just take the most popular members from each group and have them debut as a group. And I think they’re going to judge this by whichever group sells well. And since they are going to be  indie groups pretty much only wota will be able to purchase the singles.

And to be honest, the thought that only one group, or not every girl, will make their major debut makes this all the more interesting. It adds almost a battle element to this news. Which is really exciting because you’ll never know who, or if any, will debut until the last possible second. Which is setting up absolute and utter joy if it’s your favorite member or crushing pain if it’s not. My favorites are all in one group, so I’m rooting for them. But still mostly Karin. My heart cannot take another Saho Akari and S/mileage moment!
