Mini Moni revival?

Tsunku mentioned in his blog earlier today that he would like to revive H!P’s old subunit Mini Moni. He said he wants to take strong action with H!P and organize a new Mini Moni. He would also like this new Mini Moni to have 4 members like the old Mini Moni did. He already see’s Kanon as a perfect Mini Moni member.

Tsuji and Mari have also mentioned Tsunku contacting them about Mini Moni in their blogs. But this is still just a rumor, as Tsunku didn’t announce this officially. He was more or less throwing out the idea of having a new Mini Moni. Tsunku himself is even unsure what to do.

This news has really made my day. Mini Moni was the first H!P group I ever heard, and the reason I love H!P today. So I’m really excited to see if and when this happens! New Mini Moni will never be as good as old Mini Moni, but I’m still pretty happy about this.
I also wonder what kind of music would the new Mini Moni make. Would it be Strawbrerry pie era or Crazy About You era songs? Or a new style all together. I’d honestly be happy either way.

Since this is still a rumor, I can talk about my dream Mini Moni group.

Fukuda Kanon

Even though she was already picked to be in Mini Moni, I would have picked her anyway. I love Kanon! She has the cutest voice ever. She’s definitely mini Aibon.

LinLin

LinLin’s funny and over the top personality would be perfect for Mini Moni. She was really cute when she sang Ai~n! Dance no uta in concert last year. And she’s only 3 cm taller than the Mini Moni height limit. Plus we need more LinLin love.

Arihara Kanna

Kanna has the vocals and personality to be in Mini Moni. She’s also only about 3 cm taller than the Mini Moni height rule. Too bad she’s still recovering from her foot injury.

Saho Akari

Akari isn’t really my favorite H!P Egg and I don’t really care if she’s in the group or not. It’s just that she was shafted from S/mileage, so give the girl a break!

Anyway, here’s a Mini Moni video to keep you in the Mini Moni mood.

Mnet and H!P audition episode 1!

Mnet and H!P’s joint audition premiered a few days ago. And I’m not even 100% sure what the name is. I’ve heard it called Tokyo Girls, Dream Girls, and DaeDong Kyung Youths.
But anyway, I bring you my review of the first episode. I can’t understand Korean or Japanese at all, so bear with me. XD

I knew I was going to like this audition when

I saw cute girls in Lolita dresses.

Korean wotas didn’t miss a chance to see Momusu.

They looked really cute even though they are wrapped
up in blankets.

An Ai fangirl gets too close. Someone literally is pushing
her away.

Morning Musume looking cute in their Shouganai Yume
Oibito outfits.

That guy from 2PM looks way too thrilled to be talking
to Momusu.

I have no idea what they are saying, but they all seem to laugh
when LinLin metion Yakiniku.

2PM flustered by Risa’s Korean. At least I think. XD

Cute Korean fans doing the Tell Me dance.

Those fans have an Ai & Koharu and Reina blanket! Now
that’s dedication.

Risa getting the crowd going by saying something in Korean.

Doing a group Nobody dance.

Even 2PM knows the moves!

Some girl dancing to Resonant Blue. She kinda looks like Reina. o_O

All the finalists.

Orange sweater girl can kinda sing. Her voice is just a little rough
and unpolished.

This girl was amazing!

Aww poor girl stumbles over her words. She has a nice voice though,
except for when she tries to hit high notes. XD

This girl is weird looking, but she can sing. Hairspray ftw!
And her English is really good.

I love this girl! And she sings Nobody.

This girl is terrible. I wonder why they are laughing at her.

One of the only girls that dance and isn’t terrible.

Suddenly it’s day and no one’s gone. Huh? XD

I’m not even going to pretend I know what’s going on.
But I’m guessing it’s acting class or something.

2PM leaves for no apparent reason.

And then are mysteriously back.

I wish I knew why the girls look so sad. XD

And it’s over already. XD

Next week they sing C-ute’s Sakura Chirari!

And there’s also lots of crying next week.

The only thing I can say about this audition is, lucky Koreans who can understand this. I’m not going to do what I did last year with the Taiwan auditions. Stop watching them half way through because I can’t understand Chinese. I can’t understand Japanese either, but at least I would kinda know what they were saying and doing.
As for the girls themselves, I’m not really impressed by them. Only 2 or 3 girls can actually sing. I wouldn’t be too upset if this was like Lucky 7 all over again. But that’s highly unlikely to happen.

Wota Wonderings 4- Just how shallow are you?

Welcome to Wota Wonderings! We are a group of english-speaking Japanese music bloggers brought together once a month to answer questions posed by johpan. We strive to be creative and entertaining, and we may even shed a bit of new light on interesting musical and cultural topics. Any questions about how we work should be directed to johpan. Don’t forget to check out the other posts from this month at the bottom of this post. Enjoy!

The topic this time around is:

Hoping we’re not all shallow wotas, imagine your favourite idol (or musical personality) switched bodies with someone you don’t find “visually pleasing”, would it affect your love for that idol in any way/shape/form?

So this question is a little hard to answer, mostly because I don’t want to come off as being shallow. When in real life looks don’t matter to me at all. But, I’m not going to lie to seem like a better person. The honest truth is looks matter, and probably a lot. I guess because that kind of thinking is so common among lots of wotas out there, I don’t really feel that bad for thinking that way. In the world of idols you learn that looks and personality trump vocal ability. When I first got into idols, there was a time when I wouldn’t bother learning an idol’s name if they weren’t pretty or hot enough. But since than I realized that’s really stupid.

Kusumi Koharu:

I think Koharu is the only idol out there I legitimately like for personality and vocals. Most people say she can’t sing, but I really love her voice. I really love Koha’s energetic and over the top personality. It’s what drew me to her in the first place. And the fact that she’s too cute for words is just a bonus.

NEWS:

NEWS has been my favorite JE group, since I got into JE almost a year ago. They became my favorite mostly because of their cute and catchy Jpop songs. But they remained my favorite and closest followed JE group because I find all 6 of the members attractive on some level. I can honestly say I do know a lot about NEWS. But I also probably wouldn’t know as much as I do if they were ugly. Sorry, it’s the truth.

Nishikido Ryo:

But my favorite NEWS member and favorite JE member is Ryo-chan. I first started to like Ryo because he looked really hot in a suit in the Weeeek PV. I mostly like Ryo because he’s hot. Hot face and hot body. His face might wrinkle and look ugly when he smiles but that’s ok. Even though Ryo has a husky and unique voice I still think he is #5 vocally within NEWS. He’s not that bad of a singer, it’s just that the rest of NEWS outshines him. Except Shige. XD But I do really like Ryo’s sinister, I’m better than everyone else personality. Cause it’s hot. X_X

AKB48:

I first heard about AK48 a few years back. I was really interested in hearing their songs because they were similar to H!P’s songs. Before I actually listened to their songs I decided to see what they looked like first. After I saw a picture of them I remember thinking that they were really ugly. So instead of listening to them anyway, I decided not to based on their looks. But recently I started to listen to a few of their songs and realized they’re actually not that bad. I’m still not a full blown AKB48 fan though, because honestly I’d rather listen to the prettier girls of H!P. I would.

Hey! Say! JUMP:

HSJ is a pretty decent idol group. They have a few good songs like Mayonaka no Shadow Boy, Brave Story, etc. And yet as much as I want to become a HSJ fan, something is always stopping me. Even though I hate to admit it’s looks that are stopping me. Hey! Say! JUMP is currently the largest JE group out there, with 10 members. And yet out of the 10 I only think Yuto, Yamada, and Yabu are attractive. Inoo is mediocre looking. And Chinen might be hot in like 2 or 3 years. ._.

So yeah I guess looks are really important to me. And I guess that makes me shallow. I don’t really know what else to say. I guess with celebrities I feel I can judge them all I want. That’s essentially what everyone does anyway. When they say this singer is hotter than that singer.

Cheer on with Guardians 4!

Guardians 4’s Omakase! Guardian PVE was released recently. And after seeing the covers the PV is everything I hoped it wouldn’t be.

The video is completely cheap looking. The entire time they are either dancing in front of or sitting on stadium seats. There’s also a good minute worth of clips from the anime scattered throughout the PV. Which I don’t particularly care about. I understand they are doing the theme to the anime, but Buono never had clips from the anime in their PVs. That makes it pretty obvious Guardians 4 isn’t going to be around for that long.
There are some positive points the this PV though. For one every one looks super cute in the close ups. I really loved the dance too. Even though it was obnoxiously simple, it was cute and it looked like they were having fun doing it. I also love all the cute things they do throughout the PV, like cheer and hold up the signs. Especially Aika hitting the drum, that was just amazing.
I think the whole video was just a win for Aika. She dominated the cuteness in this video, she was also the most interesting to watch. And of course Yurina was a close second.

Simple dance #1. Snap your fingers

Does anyone else think this was made of plastic?

Simple dance #2. Kiss Kiss Kiss anyone?

Simple dance #3. Marching along

Aika is beyond adorable. Himitsu

Simple dance #4. Wave your hands

Yurina looking gorgeous

Don’t care about anime clips. But I really hope they make
a new group to wear those lolita looking oufits.

Simple dance #5. With arms wide open

Lucky happy makasete ne!

Saki looks cutest when cheering

Cheering: serious business

Smile Risako!

Double peace

Saki trying to look cute, but just looks like a deer in headlights

I hope you enjoyed my bias caps. :]

After School does Morning Musume

Korean girl group After School covers Morning Musume’s Love Machine, to be the theme song for the Mnet and Hello!Project’s joint audition show Great Tokyo Girls. The song will also be After School’s new digital single. And instead of being called Love Machine its title is Dream Girl.
It was said After School was picked to do the song because many girls preformed After School’s songs for the audition. And also because they modeled their graduating and adding new members after Momusu’s original concept.

I find the reasons for them being chosen a little weird. Watching the audition commercials I mostly saw girls singing SNSD’s Gee rather than anything by After School. And After School was modeled after The Pussycat Dolls rather than Morning Musume. Aside from adding new member Uee to the group recently, they don’t really share any characteristics of Morning Musume.
After School is supposed to have a sexy and sultry theme to them, rather than H!P’s cute and happy theme. If they were going to choose any Korean girl group shouldn’t it have been SNSD? They are the closest thing Korea has to Morning Musume. Both song wise and large member wise.

With all the aside, I actually really love the song. The music has been updating a lot and has a nice techno vibe to it. And even though the lyrics have nothing to do with the original, I think it’s a pretty good cover. All the girls sound really great singing it. I even think After School’s signature rap in this sound sounds pretty cool.

So here’s your video. Decide for yourself if they did Momusu justice.

Misa’s Jmusic Survey

Misa of minna iru kai has posted a Jmusic survey, that she wants bloggers to fill out. It’s an updated version of the same survey she had on vox.

Since I’m a pretty new blogger I didn’t take her older version of the survey. So there’s nothing really to compare it with. But this looked pretty fun and I never take surveys, so I thought why not.

Embryo-Dir en grey

Shining Star- Nami Tamaki

My music tastes has changed a lot since I started to listen to Jmusic. In the first few years I was really more about Jrock, and hardly listened to Jpop at all. Now I still listen to a lot of Jrock, but it’s balanced evenly with Jpop now.
Currently I listen to mostly idol music. When back in the day I used to make fun of idol music. I hate to admit it now, but a few years back I did. I used to make fun of Arashi a lot. Arashi compared to Gazette and Dir en grey was just to happy for me. Which makes no sense because I still listened to other happy Jpop. Just not that often.

Koharu’s Miracle Revolution

According to AnimeNewsNetwork Kirarin Revolution is getting it’s own manga spin off called, Miracle Revolution. This one-shot manga will recount Koharu’s real-life rise to stardom.

This is pretty excited news for Koha fans. Maybe this one-shot manga will spawn into a one-shot anime or drama. With Kirarin Revolution being so successful and popular it does seem possible. So maybe Koahru’s next anime role and single are closer than we think.
Aside from the anime possibilities, this is awesome new in general. I’d love to be able to read or see what this manga is like. This will also keep Koharu’s rising popularity up.

Just how hurt is Kanna?

As most of you already know C-ute member Arihara Kanna took an indefinite hiatus due to needing foot surgery. But as it get closer and closer to the time Kanna was expected to come back, there is no official announcement of her return. Even though she was expected to return in June, Kanna is absent from C-ute activities through September 27th. This makes me wonder just how serious her condition is, and if she’s retuning to C-ute at all. Kanna went into surgery in February and it takes about 2 months to recover, so shouldn’t she be recovered already.

Here’s a list of things Kanna will be missing from: C-ute Concert Tour 2009 Spring ~A B ℃~ / Cutie Circuit 2009 ~Bye Bye Bye!~, C-ute summer concert, C-ute FC Tour in Hawaii, C-ute’s 9th Single Shochuu Omimai Moushiagemasu , and Hello!Project Champloo ~Happy Marriage Song Shuu~ .

Now that’s a pretty substantial list. It’s easy to understand why she’s going to still be absent from concerts and even the next single, since everyone heals differently. But why is she going to be absent from the H!P cover album? Most likely this album will be the same as Morning Musume’s Cover You, where no PV was filmed. There’s going to be no dancing involved and yet Kanna still can’t even lend her voice for it? I find that a little odd.

The only concert that doesn’t officially say 6 nin C-ute is the summer concert. Which gives me some hope that Kanna might actually be there. The summer concert starts in August. That would give Kanna 6 months to heal, which is roughly 3 times the usual healing period. If Kanna ends up not being at the concert, I’m not sure how good it will be for her returning. If she’s not up to performing then, I’m not sure she ever will be.

I’m starting to really grow impatient for Kanna’s return and I’m also thinking the worst. But Kanna’s birthday is next month, so maybe we’ll get some news then. Or at least a birthday shout out from the members.
