Another 48 group to be formed, HKT48

Akimoto Yasushi announced he is planning to create yet another 48 group. This time the group will be called HKT48 and will be a based out of Fukuoka. Auditions are going on now until May 31st, with ages 11-22 being eligible. It it also planned for HKT48 to debut this year. Here’s their official website.

Apparently Aki-P has never heard the phrase, “Too much of a good thing.” Or how about, “Quality over quantity.” I guess those phrases just don’t translate right into Japanese. I don’t know about anyone else but I am getting sick of all these 48 groups. There’s too many, enough already! NMB48 hasn’t even released a single yet, and they are already making another one. Aki-P doesn’t seem to realize that eventually saturating the market with nothing but 48 groups is going to end badly. Pretty soon even the wota and casual fans are going to get sick of all these 48 groups. I mean, once you’ve reached the top the only other place to go is down. Eventually all of the 48 groups are going to fall into obscurity, because popularity doesn’t last forever. And honestly, the only 48 group anyone will really care about after the eventual collapse of them is AKB48.
I could see making so many 48 groups if each groups had their own specific theme. Like this one releases enka, or this exclusively releases anime openings, or releases nothing but techno, or Jrock. Or any actually theme. Aside from SDN48 with their mature sexy theme, every 48 group is exactly the same! The exact same image and costumes, and are releasing the exact same songs. Every single by a 48 group is interchangeable. Meaning I could see AKB48 singing Banzai Venus or GAGAGA. I could see SDN48 singing Heavy Rotation. And I could see SKE48 singing Chance no Junban. But since every 48 group is exactly the same, why even make them? I understand it’s only being done to make money. But at least try to make them interesting for the fans. At least try and give them their own separate identity. To this day I don’t know or see the actual difference between AKB48 and SKE48. If someone could explain the difference that would be awesome. However, things like their ages or the music is NOT a difference. Age is a give in why, and as far as music, it’s EXACTLY the same.

And the insanity doesn’t stop there. Don’t forget the foreign 48 groups are still in the works. It seems like Akimoto Yasushi isn’t going to stop until there are 48, 48 groups!

Aki-P announces Taiwan48

A few years ago AKB48 producer Akimoto Yasushi voiced his interest about spreading the AKB48 franchise globally, referring to it simply as World48. It seems that Aki-P has kept to his world about making that happening by announcing the first international 48 group, Taiwan48. They are still working on a name for the group, so expect the name to change in a couple of months. Though, you should totally expect it to be something along the lines of TWN48. XD

The groups has already started to be created and the process will be documented through a TV show starting this summer.

Aki-P said that he might consider making the 48 groups international. (Can we really use the word consider when he’s announced something like World48 before?) He said countries like Singapore, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, and Russia are possible locations for 48 groups. Also, I read in an article a few years ago that Italy and the United States were possible locations as well. But perhaps he was naming ones that are possible as of today. But who knows really.

Personally I’m excited for this. I think AKB48 is all kinds of awesome, so why not expand it further into Asia? Especially when AKB48 is so popular. As they say, strike while the iron is hot. I’m looking forward to this because I like Chinese music. I listen to a lot of Asian music. I’m curious to see what kind of music they will release.

I spent my Valentine’s Day with Akimoto Yasushi

The title of this blog post is of course misleading. But I did indeed spend a fraction of my Valentine’s Day with Aki-P. If you remotely care you can read on, and find out how. It’s a lot more mundane then you’re probably expecting. XD

It was pretty much the end of Valentine’s Day and I was sitting on my couch watching TV with my mom. Since everything else was already half over, she decided to put on an old episode of Iron Chef. Mostly because a couple of years ago we used to watch Iron Chef all the time, and it was also the Valentine’s Day episode. Well, that and my mom, despite refusing to admit it, totally has the hots for Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto. Which is both disgusting and hilarious.

I was only half paying attention to the episode because I was getting pretty tried and I didn’t really feel like watching Iron Chef. So, it got to the best part judging. But since I wasn’t paying attention I missed who the first judge was. Of course it had to be the first judge. Because when it got to the second judge I commented how she was only half Japanese. XD

So, I was watching the judging pretty oblivious the first half. And then it hit me. I started to think that looks a lot like Aki-P. So I asked my mom what the male judges name was. Of course she didn’t know because she could probably barely pronounce it let alone remember the name. So I said to her if his last name is Akimoto I totally know who it is. I then had to wait until the end of the episode to see the judge’s scores to see their names, and if it was him. But the Cooking Channel hates me and right after the winner was announced they cut the ending. So I had to jump up and rewind it all the way back to when the judges were introduced.

And of course it was him. And because it was him I got WAY more excited then I should have. I literally jumped up and down and said to my mom, “OMG it’s him! I knew it! It’s him!” And then I said for about 5-10 minutes about how, “I didn’t think it was really him. I can’t believe it’s him. And he’s only on the Valentine’s episode because of the song he wrote about Valentine’s Day.” Yeah I take my idol fandom pretty seriously. XD
And it’s also really funny because when my mom first put Iron Chef on my exact words were, “I really wish they made Iron Chef today, because if they did I would know who the judges were. I bet they’d have some former Morning Musume as judges.” Which is pretty funny because I actually knew someone on the episode.

I also wasn’t 100% sure it was Aki-P because I have only seen a picture of him maybe 3 times. But after googling him he looks exactly the same. XD Also, I think because I made such a big deal about recognizing him that my mom thinks I’m like in love with him or something. Which is whatever, I don’t really care too much if she thinks that. But she obviously doesn’t think I have eyes. XD I’m sure there are people reading this going, “Of course Akimoto was a judge on Iron Chef. I totally already knew that.” But I had absolutely no idea he ever did. And why would I? That show is 16 years old, and he’s just the songwriter and producer he doesn’t really matter that much. I mean, I don’t know anything about Tsunku or Johnny Kitagawa either.

Yeah, believe it or not that was the highlight of my Valentine’s Day. Yes, Aki-P made my Valentine’s Day because I’m alone this year. But I still think seeing him on Iron Chef was pretty awesome regardless. XD
