DiVA holding auditions for new member

AKB48 sub-group DiVA, announced they will be holding auditions to add a new member to the group. The auditioners must be between the ages of 18 and 23 and have dance experience. Applications are due by August 20th. The winner or winners will be signed to Office48 and join DiVA.

I remember DiVA mentioning auditions a while ago, but I actualy haven’t given it much though since. It’s nice to see that we are finally getting some information about it. I still don’t really understand why DiVA is auditioning for new members. Couldn’t they have just added more girls from AKB48? It honestly seems a little unfair to them. And obviously the winners will only be added to DiVA and not AKB48 as well. Which also seems a little pointless to me. It reminds me of the whole Super Junior and Super Junior M situation. I’m just not to thrilled with the whole idea, it seems really unnecessary to me.

Reactions to the S/mileage 3rd round auditions

Having S/mileage stream their audition process is one of the most exciting and hands on experience that can happen in the idol world. Sure, you can watch any audition show you want, and it could be 6 hours long. However, nothing really compares to watching it live before your eyes, as if you’re the one judging the girls. To pick your favorite girls in real time, and then watch the next round to see if your favorites made it through. It’s just one of those things that happen that make me an idol fan, and make being an idol fan so much fun.
And because the audition stream is exciting I made sure that I didn’t miss it this time. Last time I feel asleep, and ended up watching the 2nd round maybe a week ago. And I have to say, it’s one of those idol experiences I’ll never forget and look back fondly on. It also makes me secretly hope that the Morning Musume 10th gen auditions will be streamed live. But that’s probably unlikely.

I thought the auditions this round were pretty good. Better than the last round. There were so many girls last time it was impossible to focus on and remember every single girl. Most of them got swallowed up by the sheer amount of girls present. This time, since there were only 12 finalists it was extremely easy to follow every girl and pick personal favorites.
The only realy drawbacks for this was the short awkward wait in the beginning, and sometimes throughout the auditions. And also, the amount of talking going on. It’s great to ask a lot of questions, and to get a small peak at their personalities, but as someone who can’t speak Japanese. I found the amount of talking to be boring, excessive, and unnecessary.

With that being said it’s on to my review. I want to point out that I have not watched the stream since it aired. So, I’m writing this post from memory. Also, my video was lagging a lot during the dance scenes. I was going to download the show because the stream completely cut out during Karin’s group. But since I found a video of her dancing on youtube, I have no need to download it now.
I also want to point out how heartbroken I am that Ribbon-chan did not make it to the final round. She had everything going for her. She was adorable and could sing and dance. She was also the only one to sing and dance during the 2nd round! I seriously hope she auditioned for both S/mileage and Morning Musume.

Miyazaki:

This girl was completely a stand out to me. During the second round I became interested in her becuase she was absolutely adorable. I, however, couldn’t for the life of me remember what she sounded like when she sang during the 2nd round. XD But I heard her sing here and she was just incedible. Her voice was so sweet and so adorable, that it would be absolutely perfect for S/mileage. While she was singing she looked very unsure of herself, almost frightened. But you know how Tsunku loves to pick girls who are unsure of themselves. The only real problem with her is that she is a bit too old in my opinion to join S/mileage. She’s 17, and while that isn’t really that old it is too old, in my opinion, to start out as an idol. If she joined she would be the oldest member of S/mileage. Be that as it may, I would still be excited if she got picked.

Kosuga:

This girl did not stand out to me one bit. The only thing I can really remember saying about her was, that I didn’t like her voice. Her voice wasn’t bad, it was just extremely flat. There’s was no passion or energy behind what she was singing. She seemed to not even be trying. I don’t know if it was nerves, or trying to remember the lyrics. But she was just not one my favorites.

Yamaga:

When the auditions first started all I kept thining was she has weird teeth. (Which by the way you can’t notice when she’s smiling, it’s more of a weird thing with her gums. XD) But once she started singing I changed my mind. Her voice is completely different than the voices of S/mileage. It’s deeper, and it’s not exactly cutesy. Her whole image is cool rather that S/mileage’s cute image. I’m not sure if that’s going to ultimately help her or hurt her. But regardless, I like this girl. There’s just something about her. I was also very impressed with her dancing. It’s not mind blowing, but for being an amature she’s at a pretty high level. All she really needs is a little fine tuning and to be a little bit more polished. The only drawbacks to her is her range. She seems to be to low for S/mileage. They had her sing Best Friend by Nishino Kana (I seriously hope it was this girl, and I’m not getting mixed up) and she couldn’t really hit the high notes. S/mileage usually does kinda have a high range in songs. So it might be a problem for her.

Takeuchi Akari:

And Maimi’s cousin makes it to the finals. But I think it was obvious she was going to make it. The pipes on this girl! Her voice is incredible. Her voice is not only cute, but at the same time it is strong and stable. And as an Egg of course her dancing is also strong. She would be a great addition to S/mileage. But amazing vocals aside, Akari is still not one of my favorites. I don’t know, she just doesn’t jump out at me.

Miyamoto Karin:

All I can say about her is, KARIN! I love love love, Karin! Everything about her just screams S/mileage. I honestly can’t fathom why people think she would work better in Morning Musume. Ironically, I never really liked Karin before. I didn’t particularly like her in Shin Mini Moni, and I didn’t understand why all the fans were making such a fuss about her. But then I heard her in the 2nd round, and I was blown away. I didn’t realize Karin was that good of a singer. And believe me she is. She killed it in the 3rd round. Her version of Uchouten Love was the best in the entire round.  Her dancing is also at an incredibly high level. She was also the best dancer in the entire 3rd round. There’s just no way Karin will be passed up! Besides her talents, Karin is almost too cute for words. She looks a bit like Yuuka. And has these adorable bug eyes that may seem a bit weird at first.

Katsuta Rina:

As soon as I saw this girl I was drawn to her. I didn’t even find out she was an Egg until midway through the 3rd round. (Like I’ve said a million times before, I don’t follow trainess in any idol agency.) The girl is adorable. She seriously looks like a young Tsuji Nozomi. I can’t stop seeing Nono everytime I look at her. If she gets added her and mini Aibon (Fukuda Kanon) should become best friends. XD Rina is also a pretty good singer. Her voice is cute and it’s kind of strong. Her voice does need a little bit of work though. Nothing major, just polishing really. Also, her Egg training really pays off when it comes to dancing.

Tamura Meimi:

Meimi, the girl with the theather background. The Sayashi Riho of the auditions. She seriously is. Riho was in Momusu’s stage play Fashionable before she was a member. And Meimi was in the Shugo Chara musical. I love this girl. Her voice is incredible. It is absolutely adorable and perfect for S/mileage. She has the best singing voice of the “normal girls.” However, having a musical background doesn’t really help her when it comes to dancing. She is surprisingly weak at dancing. I seriously hope if doesn’t hurt her chances of joining. She is too talented and cute to waste. And she looks a bit like Ogawa Saki.

Aogi:

I don’t really remember this girl too well. She was another one who didn’t jump out at me. All I can really remember about her is saying her voice was unexpectedly cute. Her dancing isn’t too bad either. She just doesn’t have that star quality to me.

Nakanishi:

There is not one nice thing I can say about this girl. She was the worst singer there. And she was just awful, terrible, horrible! I can’t imagine how she got so far in the competition. Her singing was off key and not in tune at all! I seriously don’t want her anywhere near S/mileage. Shove her in the Eggs like Mogi.

Jang Dayeon:

AKA the Korean H!P audition winner. Poor Dayeon to win the auditions just to be shoved to the Eggs and have to fight to debut in a Japanese group. (Because serioulsy, didn’t she win to debut in Korea, like the Taiwan auditions did?) It seems like her nerves got the better of her during these auditions. She looked very sheepish from the get go. And she hardly spoke during the questions portion. Dayeon’s singing has improved greatly since the Korean auditions. She was terrible in the Korean auditions. But now she’s actually not too bad, but obvioulsy there’s still a lot of room for improvement. Dayeon is also kind of pretty. She looks a bit like a young Kusumi Koharu. Her dancing on the other hand isn’t that great. But that’s to be expected since she hasn’t been training that long. I honestly don’t want Dayeon in S/mileage. I think she would work better in Morning Musume.

Fuji:

I love this girl! She seems very positive and happy. She’s also really adorable. Her voice is also pretty cute. It’s not the best, but I think it would fit in S/mileage. What I’m really impressed with is Fuji’s dancing. For an amature she’s amazing! She is seriously at the Egg’s level. Which is just amazing.

Ota:

I wish I could say if I love or hate this girl, but I simply cannot remember her one bit.

2nd peek at the S/mileage auditions

S/mileage’s official youtube channel has uploaded another video of the 2nd generation audition process. Which gives us fans a nice peak at the types of girls who auditioned. And this is more of a peak than we got of Morning Musume’s 9th generation. With them showing us so many girls during the S/mileage audition, we might have actually seen a girl who will become a finalist or new member. Which is an exciting thought. And only time will tell if that happens.

And another zooming shot, like last time, to show the majority of auditioners.

I think the girl on the left is cute, she looks energetic. The girl on the right looks super nervous.

I wasn’t really blown away by this girl at first glance. But I do think she has potential as an idol. I an odd way she reminds me of Ogawa Makoto.

Woah, the girl looking toward the camera looks like Nakajima Saki and Tokunaga Chinamis’ love child. XD

During the pan of the crowd in the beginning this was the girl I was focused on! She looks a bit like Miyazawa Sae.

This girl is hardly a looker, but she seems lively.

Did anyone else immediately flash to Fukuda Asuka? XD

Meh. XD

I love that this girl said how much she loves S/mileage. Makes me like her even more. XD She is pretty. And she looks a tiny, tiny bit like Maeda Atsuko.

Yuke yuke monkey face. That’s hilarious. But probably too harsh of a comment for some.

This girl looks kind of angry. I’m not sure how well a yankee would fit in S/mileage.

She’s kind of cute.

All I see is teeth. XD

I wish we could see her face. She looks like she might be cute. Her hair is cute, so maybe she is?  XD

S/mileage 2nd gen audition footage!

Footage showing us a sneak peak of the auditions for the 2nd generation of S/mileage has been uploaded onto their official youtube channel. I first noticed the video last night, and I feel so stupid that I completely overlooked it because I can’t read Japanese and had no idea that’s what the video was. XD

I am actually really surpised by the turn out. I wasn’t really expecting so many girls to be lined up. But it just shows how everyone in Japan is becoming increasingly interested in S/mileage.
Most of the video just shows S/mileage and Tsunku talking, but there is still a decent preview of the girls. However, I wouldn’t get to attatched to these girls. Every girl that was featured in the Morning Musume 9th generation audition process sneak peak, didn’t make it to the final round. I wouldn’t be too surprised if the same thing happened here.

Here are the preview pictures of the girls. And just like with the Momusu 9th gen pictures, please click on each picture to make them bigger. Usually I resize every picture to be a near perfect size for my blog. But for these pictures I tried to do minimal resizing, to keep the pictures as large as possible.

This is a pretty long line. I wish they showed the line for Morning Musume’s 9th gen auditioners. By the way, the girl up front in the blue dress is a cutie.

I love how that one girl is auditioning in her school uniform. Personally, I think she’s trying too hard to stand out. XD

I think this girl has potential. She seems cute, but she’s slightly nervous.

She’s not exactly easy on the eyes is she?

I want that girl who’s practically crying to be added! You can tell she really loves S/mileage. Kind of like the girl who cried over Morning Musume during the Taiwan auditons. She didn’t get added though. :/

Too bad under all these smiles, S/mileage most likely hates the idea of adding more members.

These girls are kinda cute too. The girl on the right is a stand out though.

Umm…these girls aren’t really my cup of tea. And that’s putting it nicely. XD

The girl on the left is kind of ugly. The girl on the right might be pretty if she wasn’t making that pouty/trying not to laugh face.

Twins! They would be a real life W. How amazing would that be?

This girl isn’t really pretty. But I just get this extremely upbeat, energetic vibe from her. I approve of her joining. XD

She’s obviously a cutie.

She’s cute too. She’s probably my favorite so far. *O*

See, I knew this chick would be cute if she wasn’t pouting.

Hula dancing totally made this girl stand out and become unforgetable. I like her.

I like this girl, but I think 16 is too old. :/

S/mileage’s surprising 2nd generation auditions

In an absolutely shocking turn of events H!P’s youngest group, S/mileage announced they will be holding auditions for their 2nd generation. The audition is looking for girls between the ages of 13-18. The auditions will begin on June 4th and continue throughout the month. June 4th is just 9 days before the deadline of the Morning Musume 10th generation auditions. Since both auditions are in such close proximity to each other, girls are allowed to audition for both groups. However, if they pass both auditions they can only choose one group to join. You can click here for the website.

I absolutely could not believe that S/mileage was going to add new members. I was not expecting that at all, I thought they would continue with this line up throughout their career. Much like Berryz Koubou and C-ute. Apparently at one point Tsunku said he wasn‘t finished with S/mileage, but I never heard him say that before, so this announcement was quite a shock to me. This will also mark the 2nd stabel group in H!P history to have revolving members like Morning Musume. So far only sub-groups (like Tanopopo, Mini Moni, and Pucchi Moni) as well as short lived groups (like Coconuts Musume and Country Musume) have had more than one generation. When S/mileage was formed I thought about what their future would be like. I thought they were no doubt going to have the same inevitable fate as Berryz and C-ute. To me new H!P acts are always bitter sweet. Yes, it’s awesome that we get great new music and more variety, but you know that they will eventually have to leave. (Debuting ManoEri at 18 and Kikka at 19, it’s almost like why even bother. :/) But having S/mileage have new member auditions gives hope that they could last as long as Morning Musume. Now, there is no guarantee that S/mileage will even have a 3rd generation. But coming from a business and investment point of view, it’s the smart thing to do.

There’s of course a lot of fans who are against this, or feel that S/mileage is perfect the way they are. And in a sense I can’t blame them. I don’t think anyone really saw this announcmente coming. But it seems that I always have an unpopular opinion when it comes to change, because I absolutely encourage change and I am absolutely excited for this audition. Of course, I love S/mileage the way they are. They are one of my favorite groups and I think the members fit perfectly together. They each have similar sounding voices that compliments each other’s perfectly and harmonize perfectly. But since I’m such a big fan of S/mileage I realize that this is the perfect move for them. This means the group could have longevity. And what would you rather do? Enjoy the currently line up for an undisclosed amount of time, which is most likely anywhere from 6-8 years before Ayaka starts to get too old, or enjoy them for 14 years like Momusu but just with a different line up. I think it’s pretty obvious which one is better.

Japan seems to be really interested in S/mileage. They have quite the growing following, and they won best new artist at the 52nd Japan Record Awards. It seems Tsunku and H!P wants their interest and popularity to continue to rise. And holding auditions is a great way to do that. Look at all the extra promoting and interest that has been in Morning Musume lately because of the audition and new members. I also really wonder how many members they will add. It says new member audition, but I’m actually hoping for 2 new members. I also don’t get why they are asking for such old girls to join. Momusu is asking for 10 the youngest and 17 the oldest, while S/mileage is asking for 13 the youngest and 18 the oldest. It makes no sense to me. I guess they are just trying to keep all S/mileage members the same age. Do you know who would have made a great S/mileage member? Saho Akari. Oh wait, she was just added to that dance group that doesn’t have a future. :/

This audition also really makes me wonder about what their future holds. S/mileage’s theme is youth and short skirts. They are adding new members to enchance the youth aspect. So, it seems to me that S/mileage is always going to go after that youth theme. Their singles don’t seem to be maturing and adding another young member won’t help them mature either. It seems like they will forever be a youthful and playful group. Which I’m ok with, and it would actually be a welcomed change. But it seems like because of that S/mileage members might graduate before the age Morning Musume graduate, to keep up with the theme. That would also be bitter sweet.

Here’s the audition announcement video.

Morning Musume 10th gen auditions announced!

Probably the absolutely most exciting news to have been released when I was away was the Morning Musume 10th generation auditions. The auditions announced by Tsunku during Morning Musume’s spring concert tour. The criteria is the same as the 9th gen auditions. Girls ages 10-17. The application deadline is June 13th and the girls will be added after Ai-chan’s graduation this fall. You can click here for the audition website.

I cannot contain my absolute joy and excitement for this announcement. A lot of fan are whining complaining that it’s too soon to have auditions, that the 9th gen just joined. But I don’t think it’s too soon at all. I think I’m like one of the only fans who wants yearly auditions and Momusu to have 15 members again. Which will never happen because Tsunku doesn’t want them to be more than 10. But a girl can dream, right?

This is obviously an incredibly smart move to have them audition for new members so soon. Not only because Ai-chan, the real ace of Morning Musume, is leaving, but because the rest of the 5th and 6th gen are getting old and are going to have to leave soon too.

Here’s how I see Morning Musume’s future. December Ai-chan graduates. Then at that concert the 10th gen are announced. I was thinking there’s no way they would take off any focus from Ai-chan because it’s her graduation concert, her last hurrah. So, the 10th gen might be announced a concert to two before Ai-chan’s graduation. Or they might juts wait until the start of the H!P winter concert like they did with the 9th gen. Then Risa and Sayumi receive their leader and sub-leader positions.
Early winter January or February Risa announces her graduation. Let’s be realistic it has to happen, and it has to happen soon. Risa has been a member as long as Ai-chan and has to leave soon. They release one single or album with Risa as a leader.
Then in May at the end of the spring concert tour she graduates. Sayumi and Reina take over their leader and sub-leader positions.
Early summer probably June the 11th gen auditions are announced. Shortly after Sayumi, Reina, or both graduate. Mostly likely early winter There might even be another gen thrown in there. And then the line up will be 8-11 or 12. Or the one remaining 6th gen with gens 8-11 or 12.

Please note that this is just my speculation for what I think Morning Musume’s future in a year and half times will look like, and I have absolutely no way of knowing if all of this will really happen. However, it will most likely happen somewhere along these lines. Because it’s just obvious that the 5th and 6th gen have to leave within a year or 2. The 6th gen might actually be able to squeeze another 3 year. Which I personally think it pushing it a bit, but Reina and Sayumi are only 21 and Ai-chan is 24. I do realize that Risa is only 22 but she’s been a member for 10 years, it’s too long.

Anyway, going back to the auditions themselves, I’m really excited for them. I really love all the fresh blood that’s going to be in Morning Musume. I can’t wait to see the auditions and pick which girls I want to join. I can’t wait to see if my favorite gets added. I can’t wait to see what the new members are going to be like. I can’t wait to hear them sing. I just can’t wait fot all of it!

Momusu’s 9th gen audition finals!

It’s pretty obvious to see that I am officially back to blogging. And honestly, I wanted to wait a little longer to come back. But there is just so much stuff I couldn’t wait any more to blog about. There’s literally about 13-14 things I want to blog about. I’m saying about because it’s not set in stone that I’m going to blog about every single one. But I will be splitting up those posts over the next few days, because I am pretty sure no one wants to read a spam of 13 posts in one day.

Ok, but first things first. The one piece of news I couldn’t wait to blog about, Momusu’s 9th gen auditions.

I was completely surprised by how sort the audition process is. The whole clip is only about 24 minutes long. I was expecting something much longer. And in those 24 minutes they don’t really focus on the girls as much as you’d think they would. I know most people enjoy watching the girls actually train, but I prefer watching them sing and dance more. I mean, we hardly got to see the girls sing at all. In past auditions you hear the girls sing like 3 songs. And watch them start to fix their pitch. But here you get to hear them sing the first chorus of C-ute’s Aitai Lonely Christmas and that’s it.
There’s also one part where Tsunku has them cry and laugh on comand. Showing you just how fake the world of idols is.

So let’s meet the girls.

Ikuta Erina (13):

There’s something about Erina that is so infectious. When she was dancing she was all smiles and completely energetic. Even when they showed the short clip of her singing Little Princess Pri, she was so full of energy and sounded really cute singing this song. I could see Erina becoming another Koharu, Chinami, or Aika. Her dancing itself is also really strong. She’s probably the 3rd best dancer. She would be the 2nd best, but her moves aren’t 100% smooth yet. Her singing on Aitai Lonely Christmas was a little rough, but only because it sounded like the song was too high for her. She was a little rough, but nearly perfect on Little Princess Pri because that song is a good 1-2 octaves lower. All Erina needs is some intense vocal training, because she comes off as squeaky. But that was Koharu’s exact same problem. And Tsunku said if she couldn’t hit the high note in Furusato properly he wasn’t even going to consider her. And obviously it worked out fine.

Mogi Minami (11):

I personally don’t like Minami. She’s the worst singer and the worst dancer. She almost sounds like Konno Asami when she auditioned. Except KonKon was bursting with smiles, energy, and enthusiasm. Minami is just a crybaby. However, Tsunku loves to pick the girls who can’t sing and are unsure of themselves. Nearly every gen had at least one girl like that. Nono: couldn’t sing, KonKon: couldn’t sing or dance, Ai-chan: too shy, Eri: unsure of herself, Sayumi: unsure of herself and couldn’t sing, Koharu: couldn’t sing. Look how well a majority of those girls turned out. Some of the best members in my opinion. A lot of fans are judging her/disliking her too quickly. Hell, I’m doing that now. But I’m willing to bet Minami could blossom into something great.

Sayashi Riho (12):

For me Riho is the total package! She’s the cutest one, an extremely powerful dancer, and her singing is good. Her singing’s not perfect, but she has the best voice there, and it could definitely become great over time. A lot of people think she has an unfair advantage after being in the Fashionable stage play, but not really. Is it her fault for being talented and winning that audition? Fujimoto Miki and Arihara Kanna had more of an advantage when they joined C-ute and Morning Musume. Sure, neither of them auditioned and where just added. But if Tsunku had a problem with Riho being in Fashionable she would have never been allowed to audition, let alone get to the finals. Personally I want Riho added to the group. She has everything going for her, and I will be completely upset if she’s not chosen. Because if Tsunku doesn’t choose her you can be sure AKB48 or some other idol group will scoop her up!

Suzuki Kanon (12):

Kanon is my personal favorite. She’s super adorable. She looks like a mix between Mano Erina and Michishige Sayumi. Kanon just gives off this friendly and playful aura. I’m not exactly sure what she was saying during her short acting portion, but it seems like she could provide the group with the comic relief. Which Momusu really needs now that LinLin is gone. I wanna see Kanon laugh everyday in front of the mirror like LinLin did! Her dancing was pretty much on par with Erina’s, and she seemed completely happy and energetic throughout it. Her singing on the other hand is almost as bad as Minami’s. But she seemed to be having the most fun singing, and was completely into it. And I’d much rather watch a charming, energetic idol who can’t sing then an amazing singer who’s completely flat.

Otsuka Aina (12):

I like Aina. She seems different than all the other girls. To me she gives off this subtle toughness and has tomboyish qualities. I have a feeling with her we might have another Yossie or Makoto on our hands. Aina is the 2nd best singer. When she briefly sang Everyday Zekkouchou she sounded like a mix between Okai Chisato and Nakajima Saki. Which gives a nice unique deepness to her voice. Which means she would blend great with Aika and Risa. Her Aitai Lonely Christmas was just the tiniest bit rough. All she really needs to do is polish her voice more and she’ll be great. She’s also the 2nd best dancer. Her moves are really fluid. I just wish she was into it more, because her lack of energy makes her overall dancing look worse than it is.

I would absolutely love to see all 5 girls get in, because every single one of them has a redeeming quality about them. Adding one or two girls would make Morning Musume seem completely empty. Plus Ai and Risa don’t have much more time in the group. They have to really start building up the girls now. Why do you think lately Aika has been doing so much?
A lot of fans are over thinking things because at the video Tsunku said something to the effect of, “These girls will make a good unit. This is a good group of girls.” A lot of fans are taking this to mean that these 5 girls will not be joining Morning Musume, and will start a group of their own. Which is completely ridiculous if you think about it. Morning Musume desperately needs new members. And not adding any new ones would completely destroy the group. Because what would happen to it after these 5 leave? I think Tsunku meant these 5 girls make such a good group, I can’t split them up and will be taking all 5 of them.

By the way, the winners will be announced at the Hello!Project 2011 winter concert that starts on January 2nd. Hopefully we’ll know the winners the first day and won’t have to wait until the last day for them to be reveled.

Anyway, here’s the audition video for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.

Part 1:

Part 2:

First audition footage of the 9th gen finalists!

On yesterday’s episode of Bijo Gaku they showed the first footage of the Morning Musume 9th generation auditions. The footage is only 4:30 minutes long, and we hardly get to see any footage of the girls. The footage also shows the final 5 girls rather than most of the girls who audition, like past auditions have shown.

In this clip we only see one girl sing the first line of the chorus to C-ute’s Aitai Lonely Christmas, and one girl dance for about 10 seconds, then she immediately cries.

Here are the 5 finalists: (well actually they may or may no be finalists. Only half of them could be or just one. The truth is, no one knows for sure just yet.)

Apparently this girl won the audition to be in Morning Musume’s stage play Fashionable. I just think it’s so funny she made it to the finals. Mostly because I said here that there was a good chance the winner of the auditions would become a 9th generation member.

So far the first and last girl look like they would make a good addition to the group. But since they haven’t shown them singing or dancing, it’s far to early to make that judgement. I’m looking forward to the next episode, where we will most likely hear everyone sing.

9th gen sneak peek!

Today I woke up to the most exciting news of my week. Well, most exciting fandom releated news anyway. After months of nothing but vague updates when an audition phase ended, we finally have a solid update on Morning Musume’s 9th generation auditions. And when I say solid update I mean a preview of the auditioners. That’s right, on today’s episode of Bijou Gaku they showed a sneak peek of the 9th gen audition process. The show also indicated that over 9,000 applicants auditioned for the 9th gen. Which is roughly 2,200 more than the 8th gen auditions. And can I just say I love being wrong. During NMB48 it was announced that they had 7,256 applicants, and, being the optimist I am, I said that Morning Musume would be lucky to get half that. Well to my pleasant surprise they got more. Roughly 1,750 more, which is hardly a difference. But it is way better than the 4,000 I was expecting.

Here are the preview pictures of the girls. These pictures on my blog are in a small size so they don’t cut in half. Please click on each picture to make them bigger. Usually I resize every picture to be a near perfect size for my blog. But for these pictures I tried to do minimal resizing, to keep the pictures as large as possible.

Out of these girls 397 has the most star quality. She looks absolutely adorable and infectious. 405, 891,and 862 also stand out.

Here 142 stands out the most. She’s got that awkwardness in her look that Airi did when she was little. 858, 339, have potential.

This girl looks extremely tired.

This girl looks fashionable.

I want this girl in 9th gen! She looks like a mix between Kumai Yurina and Wada Ayaka. Adorable!

This girl kinda looks cute, but I can’t really see her face.

Next.

She kinda looks like an uglier version of Ogawa Saki.

For some reason she reminds me of JunJun. She’s a little too chubby though. Sorry for being so brutally honest.

Her face is too pumpkin like. XD

Now this girl looks fresh and cute.

These girls look like they are 16. Which in my opinion is too old. I’d like for the girls to be no older than 14.

From the side the girl in black looks like Fukuda Kanon. The chick in pink looks dazed.

This girl has features that remind me of Yajima Maimi. I think with a little time and makeup, she could become quite a beauty.

There’s nothing special about this girl.

I don’t care how old this girl is, I want her in the 9th gen! She is incredibly gorgeous!

Eh. She’s kinda ugly.

This girl kinda looks like Yaguchi Mari from the Morning Coffee PV.

This girl’s eyes are too far apart. Did she happen t suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome? Oh, that’s just mean. XD

This chick’s eyes are uneven!

This girl is really pretty. When you’re that young and are already pretty, chances are you’re gonna grow up to be pretty.

Now, Morning Musme auditions usually last about 3 months after they start broadcasting. So if the show starts broadcasting in December or January, you should expect the new members in March or April. Let’s just hope Tsunku doesn’t lose anymore girls to AKB48 again.
I am extremely excited to see what the dance and voice training songs are going to be. Since they are usually newer songs I’m going to guess the dance sing will be Kimagure Princess, Onna to Otoko no Lullaby Game,  or Moonlight Night ~Tsukiyo no Ban da yo~. And I’m going to guess the vocal training song will be Seishun Collection, Namdacchi, or Loving You Forever. That’s like a dream. But they will most likely be doing songs from the 11th album. Which I kinda don’t want to see happen. Mostly because I haven’t even gotten the chance to listen to the 11th album yet. XD

NMB48 auditions and their effect on Morning Musume

Akimoto Yasushi has been holding auditions for AKB48’s lastest sister unit NMB48. I’m sure most idol fans out there have known about this for a while. And rightly so, because AKB48 first announced the new group at one of their concerts in July. But I am literally just hearing about this today.
As I’ve said several times before I don’t follow AKB48, SKE48, and SDN48 as closely as I’d like to. Mostly because I’m super new to the fandom and there is a lot of girls, music, history, and general information to sift through. So much at times it feels like my head is going to explode. Right now I still can’t remember all the girls names. From memory I still only know about half the AKB48 girls’ names, no SKE48 girls (besides Matsui Jurina and Matsui Rena), and no SDN48 girls. Every time I start to really remember the girls something happens in H!P and JE that I focus all my attention on. It’s a vicious cycle. But I’m ok with my AKB48 fandom for now. You can’t imagine how hard it is to try and focus on every single Japanese idol group out there. But this is getting completely off subject now.

Since the auditions have been going on for a while now they are already on their secondary auditions. They narrowed 430 girls down to 106. And on September 20th they will be holding the third audition. Now I haven’t watched any of the NMB48 audition videos. Mostly because I can’t be bothered to search for streaming videos that could take hours to find. I’ll only do that for Morning Musume’s 9th generation auditions. But what I did watch is a video of the top 106 girls. Here’s the video.

I gotta say a vast majority of the girls are pretty unattractive. Don’t get me wrong there are a few cute girls. There are girls who reminded me of Kitagawa Keiko, Kusumi Koharu, and Ogawa Makoto. But most of them resemble horses. And I know that might sound harsh, but we’re talking about idols here. Who are based on looks over talent, being added to an agency that lip sinks nearly every performance. Do you think wotas watching this are thinking “hmm she’s ugly, but she might actually be a good singer,” or “WTF? Keep this horse face out of my group,”?

Now because I overanalyze everything and am extremely H!P biased, my immediate reactions to these auditions are, “how is this going to effect Morning Musume’s 9th gen auditions?”

I know Morning Musume, NMB48 seemingly unrelated. Except, not really. You have to factor in that these are the same girls that will most likely be auditioning for Morning Musume. The rejects of this audition will most likely audition for Morning Musume as well because the auditions are in close proximity of each other.
If a girl really wants to be an idol she’ll pretty much settle for any group. Let’s not forget AKB48 and SKE48 members have auditioned for Morning Musume before their respected groups. AKB48’s Satou Sumire, Kashiwagi Yuki, and Umeda Ayaka as well as SKE48’s Furukawa Airi and Momona Kitou.
I know some of you might not realize, or don’t want to admit, but these auditions will have a big effect on Morning Musume’s auditions. Wether the effect is a positive or a negative is up in the air.

There are two possible effects this could have on the Morning Musume auditions. Let’s start with the positive. This could definitely boost the turn out for Morning Musume’s auditions. I’m sure a lot of the heartbroken girls whose dreams have been crushed will most likely try their luck with the 9th gen Momusu auditions. Like I said before, an idol group is an idol group. If they really wanted to be an idol they wouldn’t care what group they were in.

And now for the negative possibility. And the one I personally find more plausible. Some girls might brush off the rejection and wait for another AKB48 or sister unit audition, rather than audition for Morning Musume. AKB48 and it’s sister units are extremely popular, a lot more popular than Morning Musume. They are pretty much the top idol groups in Japan right now. 7,256 girls auditioned for NMB48. I’m going to say that Morning Musume will be lucky if they get half of that.
I’d figure a lot of girls would want to be in an extremely popular group over a not so popular group. And would probably hold out for that. It seems like AKB48 takes new members frequently. AKB48 is on their 10th generation of Research Students. That’s pretty mind blowing. Considering Morning Musume is only on 8th gen currently, and H!P doesn’t take that many Eggs.

I don’t know, I try to look at Morning Musume’s future in an optimistic way. But honestly anymore it seems kinda dim.

9th generation auditions announced

You know when they say, “careful what you wish for,” I completely understand what they mean.
Well it finally happened 9th generation auditions have officially been announced. But at what price. I lost 3 of my favorite Morning Musume members for this to happen. Koharu, Eri, and LinLin. But that’s what happens with a swinging door idol group. You recycle old members, and new ones come. It’s just an inevitability being in this fandom. One day your favorite is going to leave. Having said that, it doesn’t really ease the pain or make it easier to take.

But that’s not what this post is about. I already whined enough in my previous post. This post is all about the upcoming 9th generation Morning Musume auditions! Tsunku has announced that Morning Musume will be auditioning for the 9th gen. You can view the official website here or read about it in his blog here. The girls participating in the audition must be ages 10-17.

Even though I am extremely sad that 3 members are leaving I am still super excited to finally get some new Monring Musume members. This will be my first Morning Musume audition since becoming a fan. I can’t wait for it to happen and wait with baited breathe for the new members to be picked.

I am a little disappointed with about the age though. 10-17 seems really young. Even if Morning Musume did have international auditions it sucks that I’m too old for it now. TOT But what also is pretty cool everything I said I wanted to happen with 9th gen seems to be happening. Ok I said the 9th gen auditions would be announced in February and it’s August, but that’s still pretty close. I also said that Morning Musume also needs some young girls thrown into the mix, about 12 years old. And what do you know. This generation is accepting the youngest girls any generation has ever accepted. Then I also said Ai-chan will most likely pull a Yossie. Be around just long enough to train the new member(s) before graduating herself. I hope that actually happens. Ai-chan has been a member long enough. And so has Risa for that matter.
