Kikkawa You to debut in March!

Recently graduated Hello!Project Egg member, Kikkawa You, announced that she will be making her official solo debut on March 30th. The single is entitled Kikkake wa YOU. Their will also be 3 different B sides on different versions of the single. The songs will be Sayonara Namida, Candy Pop, and Fuyuzora Hanabi which she already performed in concert. So we’ve already gotten a chance to hear those songs. Fuyuzora Hanabo and Sayonara Namida are really amazing. I wasn’t really that into Candy Pop. However, we have yet to hear the A-side. But that will probably be released in a radio rip in about a month. Kikkake wa YOU is also being used as the theme song for a movie with the same name that Kikkawa You is starring in.

I’m sure this news doesn’t really come as a shock to anyone who’s been following Kikka’s news. closely. It was pretty much set in stone that she was going solo when she was the opening act for the Hello!Project 2011 Winter Concert. Even though it was obvious it doesn’t make me less excited for this news. I am absolutely thrilled that this is finally 100% confirmed. Kikka is an amazingly talented vocalist and I’m glad that she’s not being wasted as just an Egg member. I am also really thrilled for Hello!Project to finally have another soloist. It was getting pretty boring with ManoEri. And I kinda feel bad for ManoEri because it seems like Kikka is completely going to blow her out of the water. I mean Fuyuzora Hanabi is a lot better than Seishun Serenade and it’s only a B-side! Look at this, I’m Kikka biased already. XD

Here are her B-side concert rips for anyone who is interested in hearing them.

Yamapi-Hadakanbo preview

NEWS member Yamashita Tomohisa will be releasing his 4th solo single, Hadakanbo, on January 19th.  It kinda seems like Yamapi is going to be like Tegomass where they release a single or two a year, and an album every so often. Which I’m completely ok with. There’s nothing wrong with getting more bang for your buck JE.

The song is a complete 360 from anything Yamapi has released and is used to making. The music itself is a mix between disco, soul, and jazz. The music sounds like if you took NEWS’s Koi no ABO, Kanjnai8’s It’s My Soul, and Tackey & Tsubasa’s Ai wa Takaramono and mixed them together you might get this song.
The song is so random and old fashion sounding that I absolutely love it! Every single part is amazing. And the way Yamapi sings it is so beautiful. From the vocalizing before verses, the perfect sounding high notes, the heart melting way he says Hadakanbo towards the end, and the overall smoothness in which it’s sung. This is literally Yamapi’s best solo single since Daite Senorita.

Itano Tomomi-Dear J preview

AKB48 member Itano Tomomi is releasing her first solo single. The single is entitled Dear J and will be released on January 26th.

After falling in love with Queen & Elizabeth’s Love Wars I’ve really grown to love Tomomi’s voice. Love Wars was probably the first time I ever actually heard her voice, and I was really surprised by how cute it was. So, when this single was announced I was really looking forward to it.

I’m a little sad that the short PV preview only lets us hear about 15 seconds of the song. I’m sure there’s a full radio rip floating around somewhere, but I can’t find it. But the little bit that I heard I completely wasn’t expecting. Maybe it’s the heavy music or the effects done to her voice, but Tomomi’s voice sounds a lot stronger and deeper than it usually does. I’m completely impressed by what I see and hear. The whole song and PV is reminiscent of something Amuro Namie would release. I’m actually looking forward to the PV. The song kinda very danceable and electronic sounding, I wonder if it was composed by a Korean person like SDN48’s GAGAGA.

Akanishi Jin’s first solo single Eternal

Akanishi Jin announced at his The U.S tour fan club send-off party that he will be starting a Japanese tour and will release a new single entitled Eternal. Jin said he couldn’t say the exct release date, but it will be in the beginning of 2011.

Now to anyone that keeps up to date with all things Jin, you will automatically recognize that this isn’t a new song. Jin performed this song at his You&Jin concerts. He also performed it with Yamapi during Yamapi’s Short But Sweet solo concerts.
Now, this is actually my first time hearing this song. Since I’m not really a big KAT-TUN fan, so by default I’m not really a big Jin fan. I mostly follow him for aesthetic purposes. Yeah, that might sound shallow, but at least I’m being honest.
The song is honestly to slow for my taste. And it just doesn’t seem like a type of song Jin would since. I know he wrote it so it’s obviously a Jin song. But I like his songs with strong background music. Like LoveJuice and Wonder.

The only thing I do like about this song is the lyrics. They are actually quite sweet and meaningful. Which is surprising.

Here’s the song, in concert rip quality.

Sugaya Risako-Elegant Girl preview

The radio rip for Sugaya Risako’s first solo single, Elegant Girl, has just been released. I was kind of expecting the PV to come out, since the Oshare My Dream PV is already out. But I’m gonna guess the PV will be about in ago 3-5 days.

Now, I know when the CM for the song came out I said it was forgettable. But after hearing the song in it’s entirety and listening to is several times in a row, I actually really like it. What I like most about the song is every single part sounds different. What I mean by that is each section of the song is drastically different from the next. Even more so than average songs. An average song will usually be verse and then chorus, 2 differences. Or verse, bridge, and chorus. Which is three differences. But this song is first half of verse, second half of verse, bridge, and then chorus. Which is 4 differently sung sections. And that makes the song incredibly fun to listen to. Especially since each section comes together beautifully. I also love how Risako used her full range without singing above her ability. Which is what she does very often, and it leaves her sounding almost screechy. I think the song is so simple it’s pretty, yet still pretty captivating to listen to. And they actually did make it sounds pretty elegant. Even the music is pretty. It’s slightly upbeat, yet has undertones of classical music.

Sugaya Risako-Elegant Girl preview

A commercial was released to promote Sugaya Risako’s first solo single, Elegant Girl, giving us a short preview of the PV. Which is completely unexpected because it’s also the first time we’re hearing the song.

I really wasn’t expecting this single to be so soft sounding. Though it’s called Elegant Girl, which should have given me my first clue. But I was actually expecting this to be pretty tough and loud, because isn’t Risako’s character supposed to be mean or the main character’s rival or something? The song itself sounds really pretty, but I’m not feeling it. In my honest opinion it’s a little forgettable. Let’s hope her second single is better. Or a Ogawa Mana duet!

The CM is far to short to get any substantial feel of the PV. All we’ve actually seen so far is the close up shots. But in that short time makes it look it’s going to be exactly like the Itoshiki Tomo he PV. Or the Bokura ga Ikiru My Asia PV. Both Morning Musume Tanjo 10nen Kinentai PVs were basically the same. Also I think I’m the only one who doesn’t like her evening gown hair. I honestly think it does nothing for her. I prefer Risako with her hair down.

Risako going solo!

Berryz Koubou member Sugaya Risako will be making her solo debut. She will be releasing a single later this year as Ibu Himuro, her character in the Mecha Mote series. Much like how Kusumi Koharu releases her singles as Kirarin Revolution Staring: Tsukishima Kirari. Or something to that effect.

Now I’m not really the biggest Risako fan in the world, and I also don’t hate her. Risako is more floating somewhere in the middle for me. But I am super excited for solo single. Mostly because H!P anime tie in songs are some of the best H!P songs out there currently. Buono, Kirarin Revolution, Athena & Robikerottsu Shugo Chara Eggs/Guardians 4 are just pure win for me. Yeah that’s right I love Guardians 4. Gotta love the extra does of Mittsi.

I’m also really interested in what her solo single will sound like. Because if Risako sings at certain frequencies it has the tendency to make your ears hurt slightly. Don’t kill me for that comment. XD I also wonder if she will make her voice sounds overly cute like Koharu did for her solo singles. Even Aika makes her voice sound cuter in Going On. But Risako’s voice is usually the exact same. But still she might opt for something cuter since it’s solo single for anime.

But yeah, I am really happy for Risako. I mean she’ll finally be up in the front more. I can barely even find her in Berryz Koubou PVs! Seriously, give less popular girls singles please. I’m expecting this single to be utter win, so don’t disappoint. And let’s hope she doesn’t leave Berryz Koubou immediately after her solo singles end, like Koharu did. XD

Also in honor of her upcoming solo debut here’s a small video spam of my favorite Risako performances.

Yamapi is One in a Million

Yampi’s PV for his 3rd solo single, One in a Million, is released. Yamapi fans rejoice! Or complain it should be a NEWS single, it’s really up to you. Upcoming NEWS concerts don’t make me less NEWS deprived. Though a new Kanjani8 single, and new Yamapi single allows me to see something new from my favorites NEWS members.

Onto the review. I’m going to keep the formula for PV reviews the same from now on. That I make the review as I’m watching the PV. That way all my comments are my immediate honest reactions.

The first scene I can already tell the PV is going to be wicked Americanized kinda like MOLA.(Song wise on PV wise) So I’m either going to hate it or think it’s hilarious. XD

I love how every name on the list, other than Yamapi’s, is an American name. As if he’d ever get into an American club.

OMG I’m on the list! I don’t know if you can read that, but inside the pink box it says Amy Burg. My name! Sure my last name isn’t Burg, but that’s just because it’s the alias I use when I go meet Yamapi. XP

It’s serious now, Yamapi’s arrived.

WTF? A foreign chick again.

Am I the only one who think random guy out of focus in the background might be hot? XD

Come right this way, Prince will escort you in now. He totally looks like a Japanese version of Prince. I’m sure his Little Red Corvette is parked right out front. 😀 I crack myself up. XD

Now the party don’t get started till I walk in.

Foreign chick numero dos.

I love how she gives Pi the evil eye. Like, “nobody walks away from me and lives to see the day.” XD

This spiral background will probably hurt my eyes after a while.

DJ Yamapi laying it down.

Yamapi does not look good here. He also doesn’t sound good with autotuning.

MIND FUCK! This effect is so simple to do, yet I’m amazed by it every time I see it. XD

This background is just awesome!

For a second it looked like Prince was gonna kiss Yamapi.

Hot face!

Dude, this guy look like Eddy Gordo! If Eddy Gordo were real. XD

Oh WTF, now all of a sudden Prince is a pimp.

Eh, his “who is that” face isn’t really that hot.

Oh gross. His one in a million is list checker chick. Yamapi could do better than hair. That blonde haired girl from the beginning of the PV was way prettier.

Aww she only has eyes for Prince.

Or he’s her drug hook up.

Yamapi says “soon my pretty you will be mine.”

Guess it’s time to awkwardly follow her.

I wish I could get that close to Yamapi.

Or that close. *O*

Just kiss already! But they won’t, because fangirls would HATE it.

That’s it?! I feel ripped off.

Oh WTF, it was just a dream!

Or not?

Yamapi is Loveless in New York

I really love Yamapi. He easily has one of the best voices in NEWS. But does that mean he should get a solo single and concert instead of NEWS? Not so much. However, that doesn’t stop me from loving his song Loveless. Now for the most part I’m not really into ballad type songs. But all of Yamapi’s solo songs seem to have the same format. Sad lyrics and soft music mixed with just enough upbeat music that it’s not completely boring. Well Gomen ne Juliet was like that anyway.
The overall way he is singing is great. It’s soft, sweet, and fits it perfectly. But as great as it sounds, I really wish there was at least one high note thrown in there. Heck Tegoshi’s Ai Nante is full of them. And we all know Yamapi can hit them. I don’t know without it, it seems like it’s missing something. The lyrics are pretty good. Johnny’s always does have great heartbreaking lyrics. The lyrics are also a lot better and more mature then any song he’d sing within NEWS. But since I’m paranoid, this makes me think Yamapi is getting ready to leave NEWS. I mean whenever Yamapi releasing a single outside of NEWS it’s for a drama. But he doesn’t have a drama to plug.

The PV is ok. It’s not bad, but not great. It’s pretty much what you’d expect from a song entitled Loveless. Lots of sulking and feeling heartbroken. He always flashes a Crybaby single tear in the begining. And despite his hideous hair he does manage to look cute at times. Just not the scenes were he’s wearing a beanie hat. He just looks ridiculously ugly. Designer or not it’s ugly. I really hate that this PV was filmed in NYC. I was so close to Yamapi and didn’t even know.

At least his tear looks real.

Nice outfit, too bad your hair ruins it.

You can barely even notice it here.

This hat makes him look like a tool. :/

Hot.

Nothing is hotter than you’re hair looking like a wet dog.
