How and why I’m a fan of Japanese music

Ever since I started this blog I always wanted to make a post about my history with Japanese music and how I got into Japanese music in the first place. And when my post about my love hate relationship with AAA was featured on
International Wota, Ray said he would like me to talk more about Jrock (And Hinoi Team. But he wanted me to go release by release and give my opinions on them, which I’m honestly not going to do in this post. Perhaps I will sometime in the future.) And that was pretty much an excuse for me to write this post now. It’s taken me this long to write it because I was hesitant to post about it at all, because I’m not sure if people really care about my backstory too much. But whether a lot of people care about this post or not, I really felt like writing it.  Half because I think some people are curious to see how my taste in music has evolved over the years and half because the reason I got into Japanese music is so random that it’s almost laughable. It wasn’t really as cut-and-dry as when I first started to like Kpop. Since I was already into Japanese music the jump wasn’t that hard. Also, this is most likely going to be a giant wall of text, you’ve been warned.

Obviously, everyone found out about Japanese music a ton of different ways for a ton of different reasons. I like to think that most people found out about it in some grand way like stumbling upon it on the internet or hearing a Japanese song at the end of a Japanese movie and then searching for the song. Or even through anime or videogames. I guess that’s not really all that grand, but I’ve always though the way I got into Japanese music is slightly silly and ridiculous. Even though it’s just past 7 years that I’ve been into Japanese music I can honestly remember the reason I got into it like it was yesterday. It was the first day of 7th grade, I was sitting at a table with people I wasn’t friends with at all. And among them was this girl who was pretty much labeled weird by everyone. So, to make things less awkward it was randomly asked “if you could learn any language which one would you learn?” Come to think of it, I might have actually be the person who asked this question. Which completely proves how awkward and shy I am around people I don’t know. Everyone answered with obvious languages like French or Spanish, I said Italian, but this random girl was different. She said Japanese. And I remember just being completely dumbfounded. Being 12 years old at the time I knew absolutely nothing about Japan at all. To me Japan was such a random country that was so out of the ordinary. And at the time I could not fathom why she would pick such an unusual language. I later found out she only liked Japan because of anime, but I didn’t even really know or care what anime was at the time.

And for some reason that honest and strange responce really stuck with me. I kept asking myself, “Why Japan? What is so great about this country?” So, when I got home from school I started looking up Japan just to find out what was so appealing about it. And I looked up Japan for a while. I think it was about a month. But since I was 12 in all honesty, it was probably closer to a week. I remember looking up everything, history, culture, fashion, food, etc. And because I had been doing that for a while I started to think Japan was an interesting country. Then one day it just hit me, I had an idea. And it is such a clear vivid memory that I can honestly remember the exact moment it happened. I simply just though to myself, “Since I like Japan so much, I wonder what the music from Japan sounds like?” And that simple  question, because I was curious about everything at the time, started everything. Actually I’ve always been like that. I remeber when we started learning about astronomy for the first time in 3rd grade I was so interested in it I started watching anything I could about space. I was the only nerdy 9 year old in my class that watched the science channel. XD

But anyway, back to the topic at hand. I did a simple google search of Japanese music. And I came across a website that was streaming a few songs. Among them were the artists I bothered listening to, which were Hamasaki Ayumi and Dir en grey.  The songs on the site that I listened to were M and Duty by Hamasaki Ayumi, and The Final by Dir en grey. I think I might have also listened to Embryo, but I honestly can’t remember. Looking back that moment was completely symbolic.  Those 2 artists represented complete opposite ends of the spectrum. And it was the defining moment as a fan, as whoever I chose would determine what type of Japanese music fan I would become. I do admit from the moment I heard both artists I completely fell in love with all of the songs. However, in the end I did gravitate more to Dir en grey. I just found the music to be so different then anything I had ever heard before. At the time I didn’t have my own taste of music. I was still pretty impressionable and just listened to whatever my older sister was listening to at the time. Which was Green Day, Blink 182, The Offspring, things like that. Which probably also swayed my opinion a bit. I just found Dir en grey’s music to be interesting and enticing. That and the fact that I thought Kyo was incredibly gorgeous. Which is slightly shallow, but what can I say?

And just like that I started to really get into Jrock. I listened to basically anything I could get my hands on. Though my main focuses were Dir en grey, Gazette, Alice Nine, An Cafe, and Miyavi. And when I say I was into Jrock I was really into it. Usually when I like something I can’t just like it casually, I usually latch onto it and absorb myself completely in it. Which some people might take as being obsessive. But I prefer to think I’m just enthusiastic about the things I like, and maybe with a touch of zealous. So, when I got into Jrock I got into it 150%. It was the majority of what I listened to for months, it was all I talked about, I wanted to dress Jrock, all other music was inferior, etc. I also used to quote Jrock lyrics frequently. No, seriously I’d quote them. Not the actual lyrics but the translations. My favorite quotes I used to reiterate frequently were: “Even loved ones scatter like petals from flowers in my hand. So even if I engraved the meaning that I lived in my hand, it will only be known as flowers of vanity.” Which is from The Final by Dir en grey. I also used to quote, “And a flower, doesn’t even know it’s own beauty it’s entire life. Sad isn’t it?” Which is from Miyavi’s Girls be Ambitious. I also called Kyo a prohet a couple dozen times. Which is something Kyo fans used to, and still probably do, call him. Which I am so over and is slightly embarassing to admit now. And let’s not forget the absolute hatred I had for Kisaki. Full on I wished he was dead hatred. And the reason for such an intense hatred? Well, a rumor of course. I’m sure Jrock fans immediately know what I’m reffering to. And if you don’t here’s the story. Everyone is probably well aware that before Dir en grey was formed all the members minus Toshiya were in a band called La:Sadie’s. In La:Sadie’s instead of Toshiya being the bassist it was instead Kisaki. The rumor then goes like this: Kyo had a girlfriend, I’ve also heard fiance, back then. Allegedly Kisaki slept with her. Which devestated Kyo and since then he’s refused to write happy songs. Which is sort of true. Kyo’s girlfriend did cheat on him back then, however no one knows 100% why or who it was with. But fans love to place blame. And I was one of them. I started to hate Kisaki and refused to listen to Phantasmagoria. Pretty ridiculous right? And I seriously never listened to them, the first song I ever heard by them was Kami no Uta which was their final song, that was released in 2007. However, as much as I loved, and still love, Kyo my full focus and fangirl attention went 100% to Miyavi. I followed him insanely closely, closer than anyone I had ever followed up until then, and even now. There is not 1 artist that I like half as much as Miyavi. Not even Morning Musume. You could add every idol group I love and maybe that would equal my love and adoration. Which should show how much I love Miyavi. I remember I boasted about knowing everything about Miyavi to my sister once. And she made the mistake of asking, “what do you mean everything?” So I preceded to tell her everything which took 45 miutes. Which I mentioned to her the other day when I told her about Berryz Koubou coming to AnimeNEXT, in which she said, “Oh god, don’t remind me.” There was also that one time my friend insulted Miyavi in front of me and I had to literally stop myself from slapping her. Good times. XD

I was so silly and obnoxious back then. I was the type of fan everyone hates. But I was 12-14 for god’s sake. Obviously, I’ve changed considerably since then. I just wanted to show the kind of mindset I had back then. Which is why I never gave Super Junior or Arashi a second look. Both groups were insanely popular on internet at the time, so of course I had to look them up. They were so happy and upbeat that it was laughable. I was listening to guys singing about suicide and sleeping with their mother (Seriously, Gazette’s Sugar Pain is a hilarious song.) that I couldn’t take them seriously. Which is a contradiction really because An Cafe’s and Miyavi’s music was incredibly upbeat and happy. Even Alice Nine has never been really heavy. And I did still listen to Jpop at the time. But I guess it made sense to me at the time. XD But I think it was really mainly because they were overly happy and they were guys, if they were females I probably would have listened to them. An Cafe and Miyavi were fine to me because they were still Jrock. Despite being insanely upbeat they still dressed and were Jrock. At the time I was more interested in Jrock guys than the male idol look. That has to have been my mindset.

But when I first got into Japanese music even though I was heavily into Jrock it’s not all I listened to. I did another google search of Japanese music and discovered Puffy AmiYumi and Otsuka Ai. And a couple months after I got into Japanese music for some reason we switched to cable. And I begged my mother to get the anime network that they offered just so I could get bento beat box to be able to watch Japanese music videos on TV. We only ended up having cable for a few months but it was enough time to discover some new music. I honestly can’t remeber all the music they offered, I can only remember the music I liked. Oh for some reason I also remember vividly that Chemistry was one of the artists, only because I remember saying that they were awful. The songs I did like were Shouchi no Suke by Suitei Shoujo, Shining Star Wasurenai Kara by Tamaki Nami and Rainy Days Never Stays by The Brilliant Green. I was so in love with those songs that I tapped the videos off my TV. I still have that VHS tape floating around my house somewhere. And because of the anime network, I became a pretty big fan of Tamaki Nami and Tommy Heavnly6/February6. I also googled which artists videos we featured in the opening of bento beatbox and discovered Koda Kumi and ZONE that way. Also, like I said before in my AAA post I was incredibly into Hinoi Team at the time. They were a group I randomly found and became attached to because they had just formed and they were my age. I’ve already talked about them a great deal and don’t feel like repeating it again, so if you really care about how I felt about Hinoi Team you can read the post here.

Somewhere in the midst of this youtube was created. Which helped me get into Japanese music much more. I used to have to download everything which I absolutely hated. Youtube was a big part of how I got into Jrock as much as I said I did above. There was only maybe a 6 month period of being a Japanese music fan before youtube was created. Which makes some of this chronologically out of order. But not by much. And let me just say that my family could not stand that I liked Japanese music at all. They didn’t want to hear about it and was convinced it was simply a phase. And because of that my mom refused to buy me anything Japanese related. No movies, no music, and no language books. She didn’t buy me a Japanese CD until I was 16. Which is why I have hardly any Japanese CDs. And also why despite being a Japanese music fan for 7 years I can’t speak Japanese. I only know phrases and very basic Japanese. Because for some reason my mom still refuses to buy me language books. And about a year after I got into Japanese music I told my best friend at the time that I liked Japanese music and she literally laughed in my face. Which are the main reasons I feel slightly embarrassed for liking Japanese music and why I don’t tell people I like idol music or even about this blog. Just the negative way people would react, I’d rather not experience it.

Also, around the end of 2005 or early 2006, which was 1 year before I got into Morning Musume and Hello!Project, I was in love with Mini Moni. Which might not makes sense that I would like them and not even know or care about H!P, but it happened. I remember that sometime in around 2006 I randomly heard Strawberry Pie. I cannot for the life of me remember how or why, but I just did. I thought the song was so adorable that I fell in love with Mini Moni. I mean really in love. I watched all about them. Their TV appearances, their anime, Mini Moni The Documents, and even half of their movie. Back then I actually liked Mari the best. Which I think is funny. Which is why in the beginning of getting into Morning Musume I was a Mari fan. Anyway, I pretty much only listened to Mini Moni. I randomly heard that Mari was in Morning Musume, so I decided to download a song by them. That’s right I just downloaded Go Girl ~Koi no Victory~, and nothing else. I didn’t google the group or even watch the PV. I did like the song, I ended up putting it on a mix CD. But for some reason I just didn’t look up Morning Musume beyond that.

It wasn’t until 2007 that I finally got into Hello!Project, but it was by complete accident. And I got my first, well actually second, taste of it in 2006 when I went on youtube to search for a PV by Jrock singer Moon Kana, who at the time simply went by Kana. And when I tried to look her up the first result I got was Koi Kana by Kusumi Koharu. Can you imagine that if Kana switched her name to Moon Kana a few years earlier I probably wouldn’t be a H!P fan at all? Anyway, I was so intrigued by the video that I clicked on it, and it was literally love at first sight. I fell 100% in love with the song. To such a degree that I memorized all the gestures she did in the PV and would copy them while I watched the video, I even ended up learning the dance. This was around the time the song came out so it was June of 2006, or maybe a month or 2 afterwards. And even though I was so smitten with the song I didn’t look up Koharu at all. Instead I would just youtube her name every so often to see if she had a new song out. And I did that up until Happy was released. And by that time I was completely in love with all 3 of her singles that I decided to find out what this girl named Kusumi Koharu was all about. I quickly found out she was part of Morning Musume. And by then I actually cared, so I looked up Morning Musume. I found out that Kanashimi Twilight was their most recent single and listened to it. I absolutely loved everything about it. It was happy and it was amazing. I then went on a  myspace group for Momusu to learn about the members. The group showed promo pics of each girl in their Kanashimi Twilight outfits with their names under it. I remember just sitting there, closing my eyes and repeating their names over and over until I could remember every single name and put each face to the name. I remember that I wanted to follow these girls because they were all very close to my age. And because of that I became instantly drawn to Koharu and Aika, because Koharu was my age and Aika was only 1 year younger. And when I first got into Morning Musume I used to read a certain blog everyday, it’s where I got all my news from before I discovered Hello-Online. The blog is called Hello Non-Pro Hour. It was a big inspiration for me as it was one of the reasons I decided to start my own blog. The blog went down a couple months before I started my own blog, and later one of the writers, Gaki, moved on to Pure Idol Heart. Which is a big reason I support Pure Idol Heart so much. But apparently Hello Non-Pro Hour has been making posts again, well a few months ago they did, which I was completely unaware of until I googled the site just now for this post because I couldn’t remember the blog’s name.

So, I was so inspired that I decided to make a blog. And Janakya Mottainai was born, but it wasn’t really the JM you know today. When I first started my blog I wasn’t the avid idol fan that I am today. I was actually mainly a Morning Musume and Buono fan. (Obviously I was a Buono fan since I named my blog after one of their songs.) I only had minimal interest and knowledge about Berryz Koubou, C-ute, and past groups. I was a casual fan of theirs. Where I heard some music, but not all. My main focus and attention went on Morning Musume. And like I’ve said on my blog before, when I started JM I didn’t even know all of Berryz Koubou and C-ute’s names yet. It was just that when I made JM I wanted to feature all of H!P on my blog, so I did despite not being an expert on most of H!P yet and because I felt people wanted to read about all of H!P and not just Buono and Morning Musume. So, I featured them from day one and learned everything about them on the fly and of course as I blogged I found out a lot more about them just by following them extremely closely. Obviously since then, I have now learned nearly everything there is to know about past and present H!P. Their music, songs, concerts, and members themselves. And I owe all of that to my blog. Because since day one I’ve always tried to give readers what they wanted and to make the best blog possible. If it wasn’t for that drive to please everyone and myself, I probably wouldn’t be the huge H!P fan and idol fan I am now.
But that’s not the only reason why JM is different today. Since a majority of my readers haven’t been reading my blog since day one they might be surprised to know how clustered, unorganized, and pretty much unsure of what it was, JM was back then. Despite the fact that I wanted it to be a Jpop blog I had posts dedicated to H!P, Jpop, and Jrock. Early on I discovered that wasn’t going to work and ended up dropping Jpop and Jrock all together. Which helped fuel my love and passion for H!P. And that’s pretty much it. Every step of the way in my H!P fandom after that has been detailed in my blog. If you want to know further you can check out past posts.

But the way I got into JE is another story all together. And believe it or not, again, it was by an accident. Being a fan of Hello!Project I knew that Johnny’s existed. Especially since I was a fan when Arihara Kanna was caught with Johnny’s Junior Hashimoto Ryosuke. And I was also around for Natsuyaki Miyabi’s scandal that was allegedly with Hey! Say! JUMP member Inoo Kei. (Can I just say I doubt it was Inoo. Mostly because if there’s one JE member that is legitimately gay, I’m like 80% sure it’s Inoo. XD Which could be an offensive statement to Inoo fans, or anyone reading this really, but look at the way he carries himself. You can’t pretend you haven’t thought that at least once yourself.) But at the time I had absolutely no idea who either person was. I remember looking up both guys and saying how each girl could do better. But even though I knew they existed I never listened to them or really knew what they were all about. That is until I decided to join a dubbing group. Let me first off start by saying, I love dubbing groups and I love group dubbing. Though I honestly haven’t been in one in a while. The last one I was in had me record 3 songs and then they were just never released and I was removed from the group with zero warning. A lot of people are ok with dubbing as long as the dubbers can actually sing. Which I don’t agree with and I think is completely unfair. I’ve personally been spreading my medicore, or teribble depending on who you ask, voice to the masses over the years. I absolutely could care less what people think of my voice or me for it. I love idol music, so of course I love singing idol music. It’s not fair that only people with amazing voices should be allowed to sing. People feel the same way about karaoke. But screw that, I love to sing and I’m not going to let my lack of ability stop me. And if people don’t like it, don’t listen to group dubs. Because there are only a handful of dubbers that can actually sing.

Ok, that was extremely off topic, but it makes me angry that people feel that way. So, I joined this group. Which I won’t name because, what am I their promoter? And besides that I’m not active there anymore and never really was. I joined the group and was put into my group. We actually covered 2 NEWS songs, Cherish and Ai no Matador, and I wasn’t really aware at the time, and didn’t care because I was more focused on learning the song than whether it was a good song or who it was by. Since I was placed into this group I decided to listen to some of their past releases. They did a cover of Weeeeek and this was back when idol agencies didn’t really crack down on copyright as much as they do now, and group dubs could post their group dubs over videos a lot more, and have youtube channels of them. Which you don’t see as often anymore. This group covered Weeeeek and I thought that they did such a good job that I fell in love with the song. (I also discovered Kuchibiru Kara Romantica that way as well.) I fell in love with it so much that I had to hear the original. So, I watched the PV and that was it. With just one listen I was absolutely in love with them. I told one of the girls from the dub group that I was friends with at the time that I was watching the PV and that the group seemed to be really good. So, she of course asked which member I liked. I googled and it and it turned out to Ryo. She then proceeded to tell me I shouldn’t become a fan of his because of how much of a jerk he was. Good times. XD
I actually did come into contact with JE 2 times before, but I was completely unaware of it at the time. Both times were in 2007. The first time was when I was talking to a friend I made through myspace. We mainly used to fangirl over Miyavi together, but we occasionally talked about regular Jpop too. And because of that she knew that I was a huge Tamaki Nami fan, so she sent me a news clip that talked about the new stage play that Nami was in, a Japanese version of High School musical. Along with Tamaki Nami the stage play also starred Koyama Keiichiro, but at the time I had no idea who he or NEWS was. And my only response to her was that I didn’t even like High School Musical but really wanted to see it because Nami was in it. And I also remember clearly saying to her that the random guy that kisses Nami is hideous. To which she said, “I think he’s cute.” Look how much sooner I would have been a NEWS fan if that was Ryo-chan instead of Kei-chan in the play. The second time was when I watched the movie Boku wa Imouto ni Koi o Suru which starred Matsumoto Jun. I had already seen the OVA because I found it randomly online and just had to see it because it was about incest which I found to be so odd and laughable. And once I found out they made a moive about it I just had to see the ridiculousness in live action. So, I watched the movie shortly after it was released. Well, I didn’t actually watch the whole thing. I watched half of it because it was terrible. And I actually thought the main actor, which was MatsuJun, was hideous. And rightfully so, because he didn’t really look that good in the movie. And I was more excited that Komatsu Ayaka from PGSM was in it. And finding out who the cute classmate was. Which was Hiraoka Yuta, who I still love today.

Shortly after discovering NEWS I completely engulfed myself in them. I started with their most recent single, which was Summer Time. I also watched their concerts to find out what music was good and watched anything with them I could get my hands on. So, for a good 6 months I listened to nothing but NEWS, well within Johnny’s anyway. It wasn’t until I watched the Johnny’s Countdown concert for that year that I was exposed to the other Johnny’s groups. Which I actually didn’t care about, or even plan on getting into other groups, I was just watching the concert for NEWS and NEWS alone.

But of course that’s not what happened, and I discovered another group too, completely by accident. I was watching the Johnny’s Countdown concert for 2008 and heard a song I liked. I had absolutely no idea who the group was or what the song was called, I just remember thinking, “Oh, I like that song about cherries.” And I literally googled Johnny’s song cherries. Obviously that song turned out to be Mayonaka no Shadow Boy by Hey! Say! JUMP, and it obviously wasn’t about cherries. So, shortly after that I started to get into HSJ. On my blog I did some NEWS related posts in 2008. But after the Johnny’s Countdown I decided to cover Johnny’s a lot more and started covering all the groups despite only being a fan of NEWS and HSJ. Ironically, that hasn’t really changed. I am still mainly a NEWS and HSJ fan, but I do know a lot more about the other Johnny’s groups than I did back then. Also, every step of the way in my JE fandom after that has been detailed in my blog. And you can see how much better my writing about JE has gotten as I started to know more about each group.

Random note, I realize that I wrote twice as much about JE as I did about H!P. The reason for that is I’ve been into and blogging about H!P a lot longer then JE. My blog has pretty much tracked my H!P fandom extremely closely. I have never really gotten a chance to write about how I got into JE before. Well, until now that is.

Shortly after adding Johnny’s to my blog I became more aware that AKB48 existed. As an idol fan I knew they existed and listened to their songs because they were similar to H!P. But since I was an H!P fan I saw no point in really getting into them since at the time H!P was pretty much all I wanted and was interested in. Also, I thought the girls of AKB48 weren’t really cute or appealing. But shortly after that I saw a few of the blog that I read featuring AKB48. So, I became interested in them and decided to listen to their newest single, 10nen Zakura, and became hooked. A couple months after that I turned Janakya Mottainai into 100% an idol blog. But all that meant was that I would feature H!P, JE, and AKB48. Hardly an idol blog really. Since then I have started featuring more idol groups, but only the idol groups I genuinely like. I have felt pressured at times to cover all idol groups even groups I’m not a fan of just to gain more readers and to make my blog a mecca of idol groups and coverage. But I absolutely will not do that. I think my writing and blog as a whole would suffer if I started covering groups I don’t like just because they fall into the idol category. Which is why I might not be covering your favorite idol group. The best example of this is Tokyo Girl’s Style. I just don’t see anything spectacular about them to became a fan of theirs.

I think that’s pretty much it. My 7 year history of Japanese music as best as I can remember. And as short as I could make it while still getting all the main details out. If there’s anything else you would possibly want to know that I haven’t mentioned here, feel free to ask. And I would also love to hear how everyone else started to listen to Japanese music.

AKB48’s new PV comes through with flying colors

The PV for AKB48’s upcoming single, Flying Get, has been released. I really wanted to say the full PV has been released. But since the PV on the DVD will be a whopping 18 minutes long, this seems more like the short version. Or at least the TV version.

I absolutely love everything about this PV. I think the old martial arts movie theme is incredible. I love that the outfits fit the theme, but are still cute at the same time. I think the fighting scenes are choreographed very well, and are pulled off perfectly. There’s a great balance of the member’s attacking and taking counter attacks. Overall, I think the PV is very exciting and entertaining. And it has the potential to become an amazing PV. That’s right the potential, because I honestly don’t think it’s at a 10/10 just yet. I’d say it’s more of a 7/10. And the reason for that is, while I was watching the PV the entire time everything just seemed rushed. The PV seemed to focus a lot more time on the dancing/singing scenese then they should of. And because of that all the fighting scenes seemed incredibly rushed. It seems like they tried to shorten this PV the best they could. So, they shoved as much fighting, and different girls, as they could in 5 minutes. Making some parts of the PV seem a little choppy.
If anything, this PV seems more like a tease. Now that I’m in intrigued by this PV I really want to see the full version already. I mean, they leave us hanging on Acchan’s and Yuko’s fight! Even though, since Acchan did win the senbatsu it’s 95% likely she wins the fight.

I love how everyone but Acchan stands down here.

I think I’m supposed to be intimidated here, but I’m just not. Lol.

Mayu and Mariko have the cutest hairstyles. And look at Yuki looking all gorgeous.

I absolutely love the set.

I love Yuko’s dress. I really wish everyone get to wear the Chinese dresses, and not just Yuko and Atsuko.

Lolz that they are spliting the senbatsu by boots. The media senbatsu get gold gold boots, and the regualr senbatsu get the black boots. I actually think the black boots are prettier.

Also, I hate that the dance shot looks nearly exactly like their live performances of the song. XD

The glowing eyes are just so random. But look how evil Sayaka looks.

Sasshi!

Mayu!

I never really liked this outfits before, but they are actually pretty cute.

Acchan looks pretty here.

Amina’s creepy face. XD

Right in the face! Poor, I wanna say Sayaka, but it’s too blurry to be 100%.

Despite being attacked, Jurina still manages to look creepy.

I love how Tomomi looks more angry than scared. XD

Um…what?

Yeah, do it Sasshi!

Is that Mayu? It’s extremely hard to tell, but those do look like her ears. XD

Lolz just tossed aside. But I’m sure the less popular members are used to that.

Awesome!

This is awesome too.

Mayu is just adorable!

Lolz at Mariko’s intense face.

Priceless face.

Asuka looks gorgeous here!

No, don’t steal the giant painting of Acchan! Um…what?

Does anyone else think of the crazy 88’s from Kill Bill everytime they see these masked guys?

No one messes with Maeda Atsuko!

Awesome.

Yeah, because everyone has magic lightning powers.

The stare down!

Of course you’re always more evenly matched if you both have magic powers.

The song is called Flying Get, so of course there has to be flying. XD

Acchan looks so much like a guy here. XD

I really want to know what happens!

AKB48-Flying Get PV previews

Two different morning news shows have released PV previews for AKB48’s upcoming single, Flying Get.
When I saw the covers for Flying Get a few days ago, I was completely underwhelmed and didn’t know what to expect from the PV. But I am completely surprised by how much I love the PV so far. The PV seems to be one giant fight scene. AKB48 in their Chinese inspired outfits are fighting bad guys and themselves. The PV just seems really itense and powerful. There’s a lot of intricate sword fighting going on and the girls flipping people on their backs  as well as scenes with the members getting thrown and strangled. Overall the PV looks very interesting and excited. Miles better than the Everyday Kachuusha PV. And it seems like you get to see every senbatsu members. Not like Heavy Rotation where you only really saw the top 10 or so.
The only really fault about this PV is the dance scene. The dance scene looks exactly like the live performances of this song. Which is a little boring in my opinion.

Itano Tomomi to release 3rd single

It was announced that AKB48 member Itano Tomomi will be releasing her 3rd solo single. The titled has yet to be announced and the single will be released on October 12th.

I’m half excited for this single. Half because Dear J was incredible, but Fui Ni was a disappointment. Other than that I’m getting a little tired of Tomomi constantly releasing solo songs. Her voice is lack luster, and she just released her 2nd single. But, what are you gonna do?

AKB48-Flying Get preview

The first episode of Hana Kimi aired today, so that means we finally have a preview of AKB48’s upcoming 22nd single, Flying Get.

I have been in love with this song since the first listen. As of right now I’ve been listening to the song on a loop for about 10-15minutes now. The music is just incredible. It has this sort of island or tropical feel to it. I’m sure there’s a legit name for this type of music, but I have no idea what it is. XD The music is just energetic, upbeat, and super happy. There’s a lot going on with the music. It sounds like there’s horns and bongos. The song is just amazing, and it has a very distinct summer feel to it. It blows Everyday Kachuusha out of the water. And I think I might this song more than SKE48’s Pareo wa Emerald. Which I didn’t even think was possible. I don’t know, words can’t properlly describe how awesome this song is or how much I love it.

Since this song is really amazing, and with the drama tie-in, there’s no doubt that this song will easily top Everyday Kachuusha’s sales. Which I’m kinda excited about. Have this song beat the record for the best first week sales. And then I’d actually be happy. Because I think this song deserves it.

I would recomend watching this video quickly, if you want to hear the song. Since the video is the actual ending to Hana Kimi, this video most likely won’t be up for much longer.

AKB48 to hold 2nd Janken Tournament

It was just announced that AKB48 will be golding their 2nd Janken Tounament. The Tournament will take place at the Budokan on September 20th. All AKB48 members and Research Students, as well as 5 SKE48 members and 5 NMB48 members, will take part in the Tournament. There will also be a  preliminary round to determine which SKE48 and NMB48 members will be in the Janken Tournament.

Maybe it’s because I don’t follow AKB48 as close as other fans, or as close as I’d like to, but I actually wasn’t expecting this at all. Not to say that I wasn’t expecting another Janken Tournament, because I was. But I wasn’t really expected them to do one so soon. I mean, they just finished the Senbatsu Election. I guess I shouldn’t really be that surprised, because last year the Senbatsu Election results, and the announcement for the Janken Tournament, all happened at pretty much the exact same time as this years. Both Senbatsu Elections ended on June 9th. The only real differnces are, the Janken Tournament was announced last year on June 11th, and took place on September 21st. Which means, I guess both are going to be a yearly events.

I am actually really excited for another Janken tournament. I didn’t really pay that close attention to the first Janken Tournament. Mostly because I had pretty much just started to follow AKB48. But that’s only half of why I’m excited. The real reason I’m excited is because while the Senbatsu is nothing but a popularity contest the Janken is completely random. And therefore it evens the playing field and absolutely everyone has a chance. It was nice to have  relatively unknown, or less popular members, featured in the A-side. And I’m not sure if most people know this about me, but I absolutely love rooting for the underdog. It’s one of the reasons why I love Mitsui Aika so much. (That and the fact that she’s incredibly sweet and gets mountains of hate for no reason.)

I would absolutely love for the results to be so far from what anyone is expecting. I want to be thrown a curveball and have the center be a pretty obscure member. It would be ideal for a Team 4 member or NMB48 member to win and become center. Mostly because both are fairly new (obviosly Team 4 is newer) and haven’t really done that much so far. All NBM48 has done is release a single. Yamamoto Sayaka was in Everyday Kachuusha and is part of the Under Girls for Flying Get. But besides Sayaka, the other girls are pretty obscure.

All I really ask from this Janken, is that the 24th single turns out better than last year’s Janken single. Chance no Junban was a pretty terrible song and PV. AKB48 can do a lot better than that.

Itano Tomomi-Fui Ni PV preview

A PV preview for Itano Tomomi’s 2nd single, Fui Ni, has been released.

This PV seems to have a higher budget than Dear J did. Dear J was pretty much just a dance PV. Which I guess worked because it was a dance song. The Fui Ni PV on the other hand seems to have an actual storyline.
The whole storyline of this PV seems to be that Tomomi is some sort of socialite. She’s dressed high end while being driven around, and they make point of flashes her diamond earings. And besides that she’s shoving her Juicy Couture bag in our face. I’m only 80% sure it’s a Juicy bag. It has the charm that they’re known for, and it looks like the charm is their label. You have no idea how much it’s eating me up that I’m not 100% sure what bag that is. XD
Besides that socilaite aspect of the PV, the PV is filled with a lot of fanservice. Tomomi’s laying in a bed with her cleavage emphasized, suggestivly eating a strawberry, and with wet hair that eludes to her have taken a shower.

The PV looks pretty mediocre to me. I’m actually only looking forward to it for the fashion aspect.

Itano Tomomi-Fui Ni preview

The radio rip for Itano Tomomi’s upcoming 2nd solo single, Fui Ni, has just been released.

Fui Ni sounds a lot like Tomomi’s first solo single Dear J, it also has very heavy trance/electronic music. And it’s also auto tuned. I love the direction they are going with Itano Tomomi. I love music that sounds like this. Mostly because American music is pretty much nothing but auto tuned dance tracks. But I absolutely love it. But I’m actually pretty convinced that they choose this type of music for her because it covers her less than perfect singing.
This song is alos little bit different than Dear J. Dear J was pretty much a dance song from start to finish. But in Fui Ni it has a heavy dance track in the beginning, and then the music and singing gets toned down during the verse. But only the tinest bit because it sounds like her voice is still autotuned. And then the chorus hits. The music picks up which is a plus. But I have to admit the singing is pretty rough. When that chorus hit I was not expecting it to sound like that at all. I do like the song, but it’s only ok to me. It sounds like they took a soft sounding idol song, and then the dance music was an after thought. The singing and the dance music do not mix at all. And it makes the overall song sound pretty awkward. I was hoping for another infectious dance track like Dear J. And instead I think this song falls flat. Pretty much the only thing I like about this song is the music. I do love this kind of direction for her, I just wish it was executed better.

Of course you can buy this single from CDJapan by clicking the links below.

Idol relations: the good, the bad, and the ugly

Recently I was laying in bed and I was thinking about Kamei Eri and her sister. (Yes, I lay in bed and think of idols. It’s completely normal and not obsessive) I was thinking about how much different they look, even though they are related. And from there it just kind of snowballed. I then thought about Yamapi and his sister. And that made me think of how all idols compare to their siblings and other relatives. Now, I orginally wanted to make this post back when pictures of Kamei Eri’s sister first surfaced. Because, to put it nicely, I didn’t really see the family resemblance. And because I didn’t think anyone really cared about an entire post about Kamei Eri’s sister I never made that post. And that post was just going to just focus on Eri and Rina. This post will encompass all of the idol relations that I know of. I’m sure there are way more then what are included in this post. But I really only know of the relations within H!P and JE. So, I’m sorry for that.

I want to give fair warning now that this post is completely shallow. Well, I should say, it can be perceived as being shallow. I actually think this post is honest, blunt, and pretty much telling it like it is. Celebrities are fair game for my judgement. If they didn’t want the spotlight, and all the judgement that comes along with it, they wouldn’t have become celebrities in the first place. I just thought I’d put up that little disclamer, because I’m sure I’ll get greif from this post. Comments saying I’m a horrible and shallow person. And people like me are what’s wrong with the world. And I’m not much to look at myself. And many other variations of that. And maybe I am a little shallow. But come on, we’re idol fans. We’d be lying if we didn’t admit we were shallow to some extent.

I’m mostly making this post to see if the idol genes run in the family. Or does lighting truely only strike once? While the final decision is debatable and based soley on personal preferences and opinion, I’m starting to think it really does only strike once.

Tanaka Koki and Tanaka Juri.

I think right off the bat Juri was kind of doomed because of my obvious Koki bias. I think I’ve made my love for Tanaka Koki quite obvious on this blog. It’s not even so much a physical thing. Even though I think Koki is pretty adorable. It’s more of a mixture of looks and Koki being completely awesome. I’ve know for a while that Koki’s younger brother was a Johnny’s Junior, but I never really knew what he looked like until recently. Mostly because I don’t follow Juniors at all. But after watching Yan Yan Jump, I have been seeing him a lot more lately.  And I have to say, he is actually kind of cute. He has a completely different look then Koki. Juri seems to follow the male idol, pretty boy look. While Koki has spent practically his whole career trying to look the opposite. Obviously I’d have to say Koki is better looking. But Juri’s not too far behind. Give him a couple years, and he may surpass his brother.

Kamei Eri and Kamei Rina.

Ah, the whole reason I made this post. First off, I want to say how absolutely gorgeous I think Eri is. She’s like a perfect mixture of beauty and cuteness. I seriously think she was one of the most beautiful Musumes ever. Some tough shoes to fill right off the bat. After seeing pictures of Rina I actually find it hard to believe that they are related. It’s not that Rina is ugly, because she’s not really. She’s more of average. It’s just mind boggling that the same parents who made Eri also made Rina. You know the term “the ugly sister?” I think it’s obvious who is who. Oh, is that too harsh?

Akanishi Jin and Akanishi Fuuta.

Ah, Akanishi Jin, quite arguably one of the most popular and most attractive idols in all of Johnny’s. I personally find him incredibly attractive. Him and his boyish good looks. And his face that at the same time is innocent, adorable, and sexy. It’s pretty cut and dry why he’s so popular. And his brother Reio Fuuta actually looks almost exactly like Jin. I mean, just at first glance you can tell that they are related. However, the Akanishi features that work so perfectly for Jin, don’t do Fuuta any favors. See, Jin has a huge chin farly large jaw. And the other features of his face somehow compensate for this. However, on Fuuta his jaw is pretty much all you notice. And the soft features that make Jin adorable/sexy make Fuuta look awkward and confused. He seriously looks like a deer sometimes.

Okai Chisato and Okai Asuna.

Am I seeing double here or is that really Chisa’s sister and not Chisa herself? First off, I never really thought Chisato was really all that pretty. Until Bye Bye Bye she never stood out to me. Now, lately I do think she is looking very pretty. Probably the prettiest she has ever looked. Sometimes she looks very elegant and gorgeous. But in the grand scheme of idols, and the world, I still think Chisato is average looking. Perhaps slightly above average. But the type of person, if was walking down my street, I wouldn’t give any more of a responce then, “Yeah, she’s kinda pretty.” That being said I feel pretty much the same way about Asuna. She’s cute, but obviously less cute then Chisa. But I think both girls look pretty similar. Maybe about 50-60 percent the same. The type of girls you see and know right off the bat are sisters. They have the same nose, eyes, and mouth. They look a lot more similar then Jin and Fuuta. But Asuna’s face is puffier and her teeth make her look more awkward.

Morimoto Ryutaro and Morimoto Shintaro.

Can I first point out how much their names make me laugh. Obviously their parents loved the whole taro name. It’s pretty much the Japanese equivalent of having your kid’s names rhyme. XD
Overall the Morimoto brothers don’t really do anything for me. Since I’ve been a Hey! Say! JUMP fan I never really paid attention to Ryutaro. And for the longest time I always thought it was because he was 3 years younger than me. But it’s actually not that. I mean, he’s made me laugh a few times. But looks wise I could care less. Shintaro does nothing for me either. Since he’s both Ryutaro’s brother and a popular Junior he gets a lot of pimping in concerts and TV shows. But he’s never come off to me as anything more than strange. Sometimes he looks oddly similar to Ryutaro and others he looks so far from him. But Shintaro just has this strange blank stare in photos and sometimes on TV. That’s pretty much a “I watch you while you sleep” sort of look.

Yajima Maimi and Takeuchi Akari.

Yes, I do realize that Maimi and Akari are only cousins. But relation, is relation. So, it still counts. And I wanted to include cousins anyway.
Yet another set of huge shoes to fill. Maimi is hands down the prettiest member of H!P kids. I mean, she is drop dead gorgeous. Her beauty is absolutely breath taking. And all that jazz. But seriously she really is. She has this sort of effortless, airy, aura to her. Poor little Akari doesn’t really match up to Maimi. Yes, I also realize she’s only 13 and hasn’t really grown into her face yet. But as of right now she’s kind of lack luster. I think it’s mostly because of her hair. That has to be one of the most unattractive hairstyles I have ever seen.

Nakajima Yuto and Nakajima Raiya.

Nakajima Yuto is my favorite member of Hey! Say! JUMP. I actually don’t even think he’s the most attractive member per se, but there’s something about Yuto that attracts me to him. Probably because he’s so absolutely innocent and adorable. Now, Yuto and Raiya are 6 years apart so they obviously can’t look 100% the same. But their features are noticeably similar. They have the same nose and eyes. And Raiya even short of looks like Yuto did when he was younger. Obviously I’m not going to judge Raiya beyond that because he’s, what, 12. I’m obviously not attracted to 12 year olds. Even judging 14 year old Shintaro was weird. XD

Abe Natsumi and Abe Asami.

I’ve never really understood the whole Nacchi hype. I always thought she was a little annyoing and her face always made her look older than she was. But I guess she is cute in a puppy dog sense. However, it is absolutely amazing and weird just how similar Nacchi and her sister look. I mean they are 80-90% similar. If you were in a dim lit room you might mistake Asami for Natsumi. Because of that I find Asami as pretty as I find Nacchi. Which isn’t all that much.

Natsuyaki Miyabi and Fujie Rena.

Obviously since they are only cousins they don’t look 100% similar. But I mean you can notice similarites. Personally, my mom tells me how I look more and more like my Aunt everyday.
I think both girls are actually quite stunning. If you look closely you can see that Miyabi and Rena have very similar looking mouths and eyes. And I think both girls have very strong features. Rena has a little bit larger eyes than most people and Miyabi has a little bit larger chin then most people. Either way, there’s a pretty good gene pool in that family.

Yamashita Tomohisa and Yamashita Rina.

Yamapi is a pretty standard pretty boy. One of the best looking in JE. Which I always appreciate. He’s not really my favorite NEWS member because of his lack of personality and his dead fish eyes in pictures. But he’s one of my favorite NEWS member to look at. XD Rina looks almost exactly like Yamapi. You would think that would be a good thing, but it’s just not. She pretty much looks like Yamapi with longer hair. You would think Yamapi’s soft features would transfer to his sister as well, but they don’t. Rina even has slightly heavier features than Yamapi. It’s actually kind of funny that the brother looks prettier and softer than the sister. Rina is a fromer gravure idol. She obviously did the smart thing and quit her day job.

Tanaka Koki and Tsukamoto Airi.
It’s a little hard to judge similarites between not onlycousins but between male and female cousins. I think I’ve already made it pretty obvious how I feel about Koki. Airi is actually a little pretty. But her makeup is so thick you can’t really tell. I’m not really into her gyaru looking makeup. There is a small similarity between them. Their noses look almost identical. But other than that you’d never be able to tell they were related.

Nakayama Yuma and Yamada Nana.

It’s incredible that Yuma and Nana look almost exactly the same. The only real difference is that one is a boy and one is a girl. Other than that they look the same. Same nose, same eyes, same eyebrows, and same face shape. However, Nana’s lips are bigger, but that’s to be expected since she’s a girl. I think Nana is the better of the two. Even though the particular picture I chose of Nana is a little awkward, she does come off as really cute and bubbly in pictures. Where as Yuma comes off creepy in pictures, videos, and on TV. I think it mosty has to do with the color of his hair. When he has black hair he looks significantly better, sometimes down right adorable. But when he has lighter shades the terrifying features of his face become more apparent.
So, was this a pointless post? You decide. And most of you reading this will probably say it is. But I mainly made this post for my own enjoyment. And I actually had a blast writing it, if you can believe that.

I am not really surprised to see Acchan reclaim the top spot from Yuko. I knew the legions of Acchan fas probably hated to not see their oshimen on top again, and so they came back with a vengeance. And a  whopping 17,049 votes seperate Yuko from Acchan.

What I do find surprising is to see Jurina drop 4 spots and have Rena beat her. I always thought Jurina was the most popular of the two Matsuis.

I also found it surprising that Itano Tomomi dropped from 4th to 8th. I thought she would have risen, or at least stayed the same, with all the solo work she’s been doing.

Every member in the media senbatsu and senbatsu were pretty obvious. Pretty much all the popular girls and nearly every member who is in a sub-group made it to this level. I’m pretty happy about Sato Amina staying in the senbatsu. Amina has one of the cutest singing voices I have ever heard. We don’t see her nearly enough.

Thankfully all the members that I like, or an starting to like, made it to the senbatsu. Watanabe Mayu, Takahashi Minami, Miyazawa Sae, Akimoto Sayaka are obviously popular but I’m still excited none the less.

I’m a little sad to see that Ota Aika and Miyazaki Miho are in the Under Girls. Last year Miho was in Senbatsu and Aika was the center of the Under Girls. I just think both Lovetan and Myao are cuties and deserve to be featured in the A-side more.

Here’s a short video of the results.

Acchan’s PV has yet to bloom

The PV for Maeda Atsuko’s debut solo single has been released.

I was pretty excited to see the PV, because the preview made it seems like it was going to be a sad PV. But I don’t really think I understand the storyline so much. When I first saw the preview I thought Acchan’s husband was running off on her leaving her alone with their daughter. But after seeing the PV it’s actually her father who runs off and leaves her to take care of her sister. Which I get, but after that I’m not really sure. The entire PV shows Acchan with her sister. Playing with her and walking the streets with her. But then she loses her bus tickets and has to hitchhike. I thought all of that was supposed to symbolize her everyday struggle to take care of her sister. But it ends up just being a montage of one day. Which I should have picked up one since they both are wearing the same dress throughout the entire PV. In the end, the only reason they hitchhiked was so they could visit their dying mother in the hosptial.
And then that’s where I’m lost. If the entire point of the PV was for them to see their mother, what does the rest of it have to do with anything? Why did their father leave in the first place? And why did they emphasis on that if it wasn’t even important to the storyline? Why did they follow the two sisters around, and make it look like they were struggling, when only one day had passed? Why wasn’t the entire PV about them not being able to handle that their Mother is in the hospital?
I know the PV is supposed to be touching and sad, but there’s not really a distinct storyline to follow. So, I’m not exactly sure why I’m supposed to be sad or why any of this is happening. I guess they kind of touch on their sadness, when Acchan’s sister lines up all the plastic windmills. But other than that, nothing. Maybe I’m just dense and don’t see the obvious underline message of the PV. But I don’t actually see one.

The PV even starts with Acchan and her sister alone, but still in their house.

It then quickly flashes to Acchan looking completely sad on the side of the road. Which I guess is suppsosed to mean time has passed?

However, the scene where she is begging her father to stay they are wearing the same dresses. Actually Acchan’s outfit is different. But you can plainly see that her sister’s dress is the exact same one she wears throughout the PV. So, does that mean it’s the same day or a different day? And if it’s a different day, why is does her sister never change her dress?

To me, it looks like they are aimlessly wandering around because they don’t have a home. But if it’s the same day that’s impossible. I should really say time frame, because about 3 or 4 days actually pass throughout the PV.

I’m sure whatever this note from her father says helps the storyline too.

And her sister steals the plastic flowers,

for what appears to be a display in honor of their Mother I guess. XD

Then the man who gave them a ride looks at a picture of his own daughter. I guess to give the underline meaning to appreciate you children, or something. I have no idea.

Finally they are reunited with their mother.

Only for Acchan to show her a picture.

AKB48 adds 4th team

During Himawari H1 revival stage AKB48 announced the formation of a 4th team. The 4th team will be called Team 4 and will consist of 10 research students who were recently promoted. The team will consist of the following members:

Shimada Haruka

Shimazaki Haruka
Oba Mina
Takeuchi Miyu
Nakamura Mariko
Yamauchi Suzuran
Nagao Mariya
Mori Anna
Ichikawa Miori
Nakamata Shiori

Since a lot of research students have been added without a team, most fans have been speculating that there was going to be members graduationg. But that’s obviously not the case. I’m a little shocked to see AKB48 adding another team. Mostly because with the addition of this team, that bring AKB48 up to 58 members. Which kind of throws off their name now. I also wonder if this means the other groups will add Team 4. They would have to follow what SKE48 did with their Team E, and name then Team 4II, Team 4III, etc. And I also wonder if they will add a Team 8. If they do and each Team has a full Team, that will bring AKB48 up to 80 members. Which would be insanly huge and a little ridiculous.

I’m a little thrown off by all of this. I understand wanting to include Research Students to the mix because they have a lot of talent, but I’m not sure they had to add another Team to do so. They could have just put them in a completely new group, or have them release another single. I also don’t know if this is the best idea for AKB48. If they did add full Team 4 and Team 8 and were at 80 members and had the other 48 groups follow suit, I think a lot of fans would get tired of the whole franchise. It would absolutely be too much of a good thing. Because if every 48 group beacame that huge, there would be 320 official 48 group members plus Research Students. Which would make the 48 group franchise burn out quicker than intended.

But this is all speculation. And just because AKB48 adds a Team 4 doesn’t mean another group will and it doesn’t mean they will add a Team 8. This is obviously just a “what if” situation. But in responce to that, could you imagine if it really did happen? 320 members is astronomical. I sure hope management knows what they are doing with this Team 4.

AKB48 breaks a record, but do they deserve it?

AKB48’s new single, Everyday Kachuusha,  has just broken the record for a single’s best first week sales. They broke the record in just 5 days beating the previous number one single, Mr. Children’s Namonaki Uta. And I am actually really angry by all of this. I think AKB48 is completely undeserving to break the record and to hold such a high honor.

And don’t go thinking I’m bitter because AKB48 broke the record and not my favorite idol group, because that is absolutely not the case. I don’t think ANY idol group should break a record like this. Not Morning Musume, not NEWS, and certainly not AKB48. I think this coveted position should be held by a legit artsit who deserves it. Not an arist who was only picked because they danced around in bikinis and are the newsest flavor of the week. Yes, I realized their popularity is HUGE and has been for years. I simply mean that eventually people will move on to some other idol group. And that new idol group will be the “it” group and the new flash in the pan. And years from now when no one cares about AKB48 anymore people will be saying, “I can’t believe such and such established artist can’t beat that has been idol group. And sadly that’s most likely going to happen.

And to anyone out there who thinks AKB48, or any idol group, actually deserves to win you are lying to yourself. AKB48 didn’t win because the song is that amazing, beautiful, or meaningful. They won because they are insanely popular and they made a suggestive PV. (I can hear the people crying, “The PV is innocent. Bikinis aren’t suggestive. I can’t think of anything more innocent then dancing and parading around in bikinis.” Right, because only obvious sexual behavior is suggestive.)
It just makes me angry. I heard and read the translation for Mr. Children’s song today. It’s beautiful. The singing is actually kinda bad, but the lyrics are really pretty and sweet. And I can completely see why they held the top spot. It’s a song about being there for the person you love. No matter what happens, no matter how difficult things get, you’ll always be there for them. AKB48’s song on the other hand is a mediocore pop song about it being summer. And basically mundane things you do when it’s summer such as running in the seas breeze, having the sun beat on you, etc. And of course it’s the typical idol lyrics about loving someone from a far, and blah blah. The lyrics are just ok. They aren’t heartfelt, they aren’t even the best lyrics or best song by AKB48. If Beginner or Keibetsu Shiteita Aijou won, I still wouldn’t like it but I’d get it more. There was just absolutely no reason why this song won.

I would love to hear a fan try and defend this situation, because they can’t. And any fan that can’t realize that they are undeserving takes idol music and idols far too seriously.
If I’m being honest here I don’t think either songs were amazing enough to win. If I had it my way Uemura Kana’s Toilet no Kamisama would win. That song is so heartbreaking, it makes me cry every time I hear it.

I don’t know, I love idols and all but I don’t really like it  when they start beating legit artists for things. It kinda makes me angry.

Another 48 group to be formed, HKT48

Akimoto Yasushi announced he is planning to create yet another 48 group. This time the group will be called HKT48 and will be a based out of Fukuoka. Auditions are going on now until May 31st, with ages 11-22 being eligible. It it also planned for HKT48 to debut this year. Here’s their official website.

Apparently Aki-P has never heard the phrase, “Too much of a good thing.” Or how about, “Quality over quantity.” I guess those phrases just don’t translate right into Japanese. I don’t know about anyone else but I am getting sick of all these 48 groups. There’s too many, enough already! NMB48 hasn’t even released a single yet, and they are already making another one. Aki-P doesn’t seem to realize that eventually saturating the market with nothing but 48 groups is going to end badly. Pretty soon even the wota and casual fans are going to get sick of all these 48 groups. I mean, once you’ve reached the top the only other place to go is down. Eventually all of the 48 groups are going to fall into obscurity, because popularity doesn’t last forever. And honestly, the only 48 group anyone will really care about after the eventual collapse of them is AKB48.
I could see making so many 48 groups if each groups had their own specific theme. Like this one releases enka, or this exclusively releases anime openings, or releases nothing but techno, or Jrock. Or any actually theme. Aside from SDN48 with their mature sexy theme, every 48 group is exactly the same! The exact same image and costumes, and are releasing the exact same songs. Every single by a 48 group is interchangeable. Meaning I could see AKB48 singing Banzai Venus or GAGAGA. I could see SDN48 singing Heavy Rotation. And I could see SKE48 singing Chance no Junban. But since every 48 group is exactly the same, why even make them? I understand it’s only being done to make money. But at least try to make them interesting for the fans. At least try and give them their own separate identity. To this day I don’t know or see the actual difference between AKB48 and SKE48. If someone could explain the difference that would be awesome. However, things like their ages or the music is NOT a difference. Age is a give in why, and as far as music, it’s EXACTLY the same.

And the insanity doesn’t stop there. Don’t forget the foreign 48 groups are still in the works. It seems like Akimoto Yasushi isn’t going to stop until there are 48, 48 groups!

Everyday is a repeat for AKB48

The full PV for AKB48’s 21st single, Everyday, Kachuusha, has been released. And if you ask me it was released extremely fast. The PV preview just came out 2 days ago, and I didn’t even get a chance to post about that yet. Since I was on break from blogging because I was sick, I’ve been a little lazy when it comes to blogging. I seriously need to get back into the groove. XD

Anyway, the main storyline of the PV is AKB48 playing homage to their earlier PVs. Now on the surface that sounds like a completely interesting and unique idea. And it is. But I can’t be the only one out there who also thinks it’s extremely arrogant. AKB48 has only been around for almost 6 years and had one million seller, and already they are parading around like they are incredible. To me, playing homage to past PVs is basically saying, “Look at our humble beginnings and now look at the amazing success we are now.” Morning Musume has released over twice the amount of singles they have, and have been around for over twice as long as they have. And yet there’s no homage PV. Arashi has been really popular a lot longer than AKB48 has, and they haven’t released an homage PV. It seems like AKB48 has to shove their popularity in your face, like “don’t forget we’re the #1 female idol group, ok.” I don’t know maybe I’m just over thinking things but that is the absolute first thing that I thought of. It just screams arrogance to me. AKB48 isn’t nearly high enough in their popularity level to be doing this. And they haven’t been around long enough to make a PV like this. This is a legit we’ve been around for 20 years so lets recreate all the good times, type of PV. While I do love the idea of recreating past PVs I just thing it’s way too early for AKB48. The whole PV is premature.

Another reason why I don’t particularly love this PV isI think it’s also extremely lazy and unimaginative. It seems like they couldn’t really think of anything to do for the PV so they decided to just recreate past PVs. And it actually seems more like an excuse for them to wear bikinis. Because even though it’s supposed to be a homage to their past PVs, it basically focuses on Ponytail to Shushu. And obviously the sexier the PV is the better the song sells.

Since this single is devoid of its own PV, I’m just going to point out all the other PVs I notice.

Already this is going to be easy.

I think it’s pretty obvious there was a similar scene in Ponytail to Shushu.

AKB48 actually ride bikes a lot in their PVs.

But since Acchan is riding along the beach I’m going to guess it’s supposed to be the Aitakatta PV.

To me this looks like a direct reference to the Ponytail to Shushu PV.

However, you can argue that it can’t be since they are dancing on grass and not a beach. In the Aitakatta and Iiwake Maybe PVs they dance on bare grass. But I still think it’s supposed to be Ponytail to Shushu.

They made this incredibly obvious.

However, the original confrontation from the Iiwake Maybe PV is setup different.

Yet another nod to Ponytail to Shushu.

This is really starting to annoy me. :/

Here’s Iiwake Maybe again.

Why do they keep using the same PVs?

Finally a new PV reference.

This time it’s Sakura no Hanabiratachi.

Even something as simple as Acchan on the phone is a reference.

It happens shortly in the Oogoe Diamond PV.

I think this is supposed to be the fight scene from Oogoe Diamond.

However, in the original Sae doesn’t hit Atsuko.

Peeking at dancing.

Is yet another reference to Oogoe Diamond.

Finally another new PV.

Which is obviously Namida Surprise.

Of course they just had to squeeze in another Ponytail to Shushu reference.

They just had to.

When I first saw flower petals falling I thought it was supposed to be Sakura no ki ni Narou.

But then I realized it was supposed to be Baby Baby Baby.

Obvious peephole is obvious.

Of course it’s from the Heavy Rotation PV.

A scene from my absolute favorite AKB48 single.

Keibetsu Shiteita Aijou.

Sleepy Acchan.

Which is obviously from 10nen Zakura.

This has to be a nod at the fact that some of BINGO was filmed on a boat.

However, there was never a scene like that in BINGO.

Well there you go most of the homage parts of the PV. Obviously I didn’t do every single one. Mostly because that would have taken even longer than this post already took to make.

Here’s the PV. Watch it while you can.

Maeda Atsuko first solo single announced

During a recent AKB48 handshake event at Nagoya Dome, AKB48 member Maeda Atsuko she will be releasing her first solo single. The single is entitled Flower and will be released on June 22nd. The song will also be used in her movie Moshidora.

I’m sure most of the AKB48 fandom is absolutely thrilled by this announcement since Acchan is one of the most popular members. I gotta say I’m surprised that she hasn’t released a solo single before. She has the perfect mix of popularity and singing ability. I’m not really a fan of Acchan but I am excited for her debut. She has one of my favorite voices in AKB48 and I’m really excited to hear what her song is going to sound like. Apparently the song is going to be a ballad, which I’m not too happy with. But if the song sounds anything like 7ji 12fun no hatsukoi I’ll be happy.

You can of course purchase her solo single from CDJapan by clicking the links below.

Itano Tomomi to release 2 digital singles along with 2nd single

AKB48 member and solo artist Itano Tomomi announced at a handshake event, that in addition to her already announced 2nd single she will also be releasing two digital singles. Her first digitial single is titled Wanna be Now and is being released on May 11th. The second single is titled Ai Ai Pierce and will be released on June 1st. These digital singles will only be available through the moble phone downloading site Recochoku. Meanwhile, her still to be untitled 2nd single was supposed to be released on April 27th, but has been pushed back until July 13th.

Maybe it’s just me, but doesn’t this seem a bit like overkill? I understand that Dear J was pretty popular and sold over 200,000 copies, but to basically release 3 singles after another just seems like too much. And I am not being biased. I find it just as ridiculous when Arashi frequently does it, and find it ridiculous that Kanjnai8 is doing it now. I guess they are having so many single at once for 2 reasons. Obviously the first is it seems like the earthquake effected her releases quite a bit. Since her 2nd single was supposed to be released on April 27th, it seems like at least one of those song was intended to be used as her 3rd single. And the other reason being simply: she sells well, so why not get all the money they can out of her in her peak popularity.

Coming from someone who didn’t really want to see her release a 2nd single, I obviously am not to happy about basically 3 more. But there’s nothing I can do about that.
Also, it really sucks for foreign fans that these digital singles can only be purchsed through Recochoku.

AKB48-Everyday, Kachuusha preview

A radio rip for AKB48’s upcoming 21st single, Everyday, Kachuusha, has been released. It was released through a teaser for the movie, Moshidora, which this single is being used as the theme song.

At first listen the song is very misleading. It starts out with a very big instrumental that sounds like some 40’s broadway show or a big band song. It also made me think they were going to have another song along the lines of Sakura no Shiori. But that heavy music dissolves after 10 seconds. And the music turns into the music from the beginning mixed with more upbeat and friendly idol sounding music. I absolutely love the song so far. The music is over the top, very intesne, and almost sounds like parade music. I am just really impressed with the power and energy of the song. In a way the song sounds like an amped up version of Ponytail to Shushu. Which, is a little funny since right off the bat this song was being compare to that song.
Singing wise it pretty much sounds like every other AKB48 single, since that’s their whole formula. But that’s fine. I’ve grown to love that from them.
My absolute favorite part of the song is towards the end of the chorus when they start repeating everyday. However, I could do without the male voice saying kachuusha. That just the song off a bit. XD

AKB48 announces new single and gears up for Senbatsu elections

Despite AKB48’s debut album being released in June, AKB48 just continues to pop out releases. I believe the reason for that is the expression, “strike while the irons hot.” I’m kidding of course. AKB48 has announced that they will be releasing their 21st single on May 25th. Not only that but they also announced they will be doing Senbatsu elections for their 22nd single.

Of course, since their single is being released nearly 2 months from now nothing about the single is know. But as always I’ll update as soon as the news comes out.
I’m actually really excited for the Senbatsu elections. This will mark my first election as an actual fan. I’ve seen 2 elections before, but I was a casual fan then and didn’t really even know who the girls were then. I don’t really have anything to worry about with the elections since Mayuyu was 5th last time, so obviously she’ll place again. (Let’s hope it’s higher. :P) I would like to see Sayaka make it in the A-side this time. Hopefully DiVA will help her get there.

AKB48’s Koko ni Ita Koto track list revealed

I posed a few weeks about AKB48’s upcoming 1st album. Well, now we have more details on the album. We have the covers, track list, and the album name. The album is entitled Koko ni Ita Koto. Since I don’t make entire post about covers I don’t have all the covers posted here. But above is my favorite cover of the album. Watanabe Mayu in a lolita dress is just pure win.

And you can check out the track list below.
1. Shoujotachi yo
2. Overtake (Team A)
3. Boku ni Dekiru koto (Team K)
4. Renai Circus (Team B)
5. Kaze no Yukue (Kuramochi, Sashihara, Takahashi, Oshima, Minegishi, Kashiwagi)
6. Wagamama Collection (Oota, Maeda Ami, Komori, Sato S, Watanabe, Matsui J)
7. Ningyo no Vacances (Takajo, Nito, Yokoyama, Kasai, Kitahara, Sato A, Masuda)
8. Kimi to Boku no Kankei (Maeda Atsuko, Itano)
9. IIKAGEN no SUSUME (Katayama, Kojima, Shinoda, Akimoto, Miyazawa, Matsui R)
10. High scool days (Team KKS)
11. Team B Oshi (Team B)
12. Chance no Junban
13. Beginner
14. Ponytail to Shushu
15. Heavy Rotation
16. Koko ni ita koto (AKB48+SKE48+SDN48+NMB48)

I’ve been wondering how they were going to do the album since they have 48 members. And I was completely expecting their solution. Most of the girls aren’t featured prominently on the album. Only about half of the girls are featured in songs that aren’t team songs. Which is a little unfair. But that’s the breaks in an idol group were popularity determines when you sing.
However, they could have fixed this a bit if the 2 Matsuis from SKE weren’t included and if the Kenkyuusei didn’t have their own song. Because honestly, I think both are a bit unnecessary.
Song wise I’m looking forward to hearing Renai Cirus the most, because the covers have a circus theme and this is the only song that has anything to do with a circus. XD I also really want to hear Koko ni Ita Kot because all the 48 groups in one song, makes me think of Hello!Project All Stars. And anything similar to that is just amazing.
I’m also looking forward to see how much this album sells. I think there’s definitely going to be some record breaking going on.

As always, you can buy the album from CDJapan by clicking the links below.

Would global 48 groups even work?

I orignally wanted this to be part of my Taiwan48 post, but this post was way too long to be included. So, here we are a whole new post dedicated to the possibility of other global 48 groups. XD

It seems a majority of fans have been responding negatively to the idea of foreign 48 groups since day one. But I have been absolutely excited. Despite not being a fan of AKB48 2 years ago, I was all for the idea of World48 when I heard about it. Since I am a Japanese music fan, I was thrilled about anything that would spread Japanese music and/or style around the world. Especially if it might happen here in the US.

Most fans have been shooting down the possibility of a global franchise for 3 reasons. (You know I have to overanalyze this and write more in more depth about this because I’m such a nerd.) Also, This is an EXTREMELY long post. So, stop reading if you don’t feel like reading for a good 10 minutes give or take.

The first reason being they won’t like it because they prefer things that are Japanese. Now, before I start my explanation of this let me say that I DO NOT personally know fans like this. But after years of reading forums, blogs, youtube comments, and having actual conversations, I assure you these types of fans DO exist. Please don’t take offense in this. I am not suggesting that the people who read this blog or are reading this blog now are like this. There, was that warning PC enough? XD

They would much prefer if Japanese music was a sub culture. Having the music spread would completely defeat the purpose. That way if they are the only person who  knows about the ultra cool Japabese things can they feel superior. Which deals with the whole elitism in the Japanese music community. And don’t tell me it doesn’t exist. Try joining a Jrock LJ community or Jrock forum (which is how I found out) and see how elitist the Jrock fandom is. I had a friend who literally looked down on me because I didn’t know absolutely everything about anime and anime music, and she did so that made her so much better than me. Which, I might add I wasn’t even that into. I liked Japanese music not JUST anime music. Which she only liked anime music. I will never forget the first thing I said to her. “You like Japanese music?! Do you like Morning Musume,” she responded she didn’t know who they were so I almost angrily said, “How can you like Japanese music and not know who Morning Musume are?!” Ah, good times. XD
Also, I have heard fans who literally do not want their Japanese or Asian singers known worldwide. I have no idea why. I guess they treat it as something precious and amazing, that only they like. And if the whole world suddenly learned about it would lose all it’s appeal. Which would makes those fans elites, who only like it too feel superior and trendy.

The other reason is only liking Japanese things because they are Japanese. The absolutely first second I started liking Japanese music I was labeled a weebo and a Japanophile. That I liked absolutely ANYTHING just because it was Japanese. Regardless of how terrible it actually was. One of my sister’s friends even called me an Egg. Which made me completely angry! Which was never true for me. I still listen to American music. I do not wish I was Japanese nor do I wish I lived in Japan. I am 100% happy being American. I am completely consumed in everything American and can’t imagine living anywhere else. But a vast majority of Japanese fans are like that. How do I know? Practically every friend I ever made friends with because they liked Japanese music also, where straight up Japanophiles. Case and point, I was at Japanese restaurant. Where my friends go to ALL the time. My and my friends literally go there like 2 or 3 times a week, I might add. It was my first time there and first time eating Japanese food. But, I knew I wouldn’t like it. I don’t like rice, fish, beans, or most vegetables, so it was pretty obvious. I tried some of my friends miso soup because there was no way I was going to buy something I most likely wasn’t going to like. So, I had a spoonful. And no offence to anyone, it was the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten. And I will never forget her response. “I knew you weren’t going to like it. Miso soup is an acquired taste.” And of course my response was. “There’s no such thing as an acquired taste. That just means you’re forcing yourself to like it because it’s Japanese” Which she completely was. (This was also anime girl btw. XD) And this has to be why a lot of fans WILL NOT accept international 48 groups. And as hard as it is for people to accept that, this is a much bigger reason that people do or want to realize. There are people out there who only like Japanese things. Only eat Japanese food. Only listen to Japanese music. Only wear Japanese like clothes. And think Japan is the best country in the world. Believe me they exist, I know a few. Thankfully not to such and obsessive annoying degree, but they are like that. So, with that mind set, the global 48 groups would, no matter what, automatically be worse than the Japanese one. It would be a horrible rip off that should never exist, because it’s very existence is brining down the original Japanese one. Which is absolutely ludicrous!

The second reason of course being, that 48 groups would never last in the west. Of course that out come is possible. But honestly, with the right producing and promotion anything could happen. Yes, Japanese idol culture does not exist in any shape or form in the US. It’s closest equivalent, Dinsey artists, aren’t anything near what an idol is. But obvious if the music was altered from idol music, and transformed into what is popular in that country they’d have a real shot. Such as the US would have a hip hop, autotuned, sexy, vibe. Where as a country in Europe would have a more techno infused dance song.
But not even that, there are some US artists that are making essentially cutesy “idol” music. Katy Perry released the relatively cute sounding song, California Gurls, with an even cuter youthful almost idol looking music video. And a song like Teenage Dream with lyrics about teenage love, that lyrically sounds like something AKB48 would release. Yet, she’s a legit artist. How about Taylor Swift? Despite being 20 her music is mostly poorly written songs geared toward teenage girls. I mean, try and tell me You Belong With Me, Fifteen, and Love Story aren’t written like and for a fourteen year old girl. And how about the Jonas Brothers? Yes, they are disney stars, but they were still able to break away from that a bit. But listen to songs like Hello Beautiful, Got Me Going Crazy, Infatuation, Lovebug, Pushing Me Away don’t sound like they could be JE songs? I mean lyrically they are the same caliber that Johnny’s songs are. And if you can’t see that, you’re obviously really biased. The Jonas Brother’s idol-esque lyrics are the main reason I got into them in the first place.

Another reason people think they might fail is because of the whole school girl uniform type outfits. Which is completely true in a sense. I don’t know about any other country, but here in the US school uniforms aren’t really that common. In the US only catholic schools and prep schools wear uniforms. So that’s only about half the country, if not less. In Japan they are a big deal socially since every student in every school wears uniforms. But any outfit could become accepted. Remember Gwen Stefani’s whole Harajuku Girls phase? That was weird and Japanese but accepted. And if people accept Lady Gaga wearing dresses made out of meat and condoms, I think school uniforms could become accepted. It could also become a fashion trend. If military, navy, and freaking beige can be popular trends in fashion now, why can’t school girl outfits? However, since it is the US the only way school girl outfits would fly is if they were sexy or at least a little bit flirty. Remember a few months back when that Mexican group used the music for AKB48’s Beginner? Remember how sexy and revealing their outfits were? Yeah, that’s almost what USA48 would look like.

The 3rd reason obviously being they are teenage girls. 48 groups, minus SDN48, are teenage girls, and regardless of the country they would stay teenage girls. It might fly in Japan for teenage girls too dances around in bikinis, run around in lingerie, take photo shoots wearing bra and panties, and sometimes singing about having sex with adult, it definitely won’t fly in the US. People would be up in arms in no time. Looking sexually at anyone under the age of 18 is extremely frowned upon. And AKB48’s whole appeal is sexualizing their school girl image, which would not be allowed to be done. Do you remember how much heat Miley Cyrus got for pole dancing at the Teen Choice Awards when she did? For USA48 to even be allowed to happen it would have to be completely reformatted, or it would have to be based off of SDN48 instead of AKB48.

Even though global 48 groups would have to be intricately designed to appeal to their specific country, I actually think they could in fact be popular. But much like any artist or group, it’s all about selling it correctly. And I can see things like janken tournaments and senbatsu elections being really popular. As well as the idols you can meet concept being a huge fan favorite. And who knows, if all goes well we could see sister groups. Such as NYC48, LSA48, ATL48, CGO48, etc.

AKB48 to release first album this April!

Now, it might sound stupid but I was under the impression that AKB48 already released albums. I guess stage albums and their greatest hits albums don’t count. Who knew? XD
This is extremely exciting news for AKB48 fans. Personally I am looking forward to hearing the songs. AKB48 always releases good songs, so I can’t wait to hear what types of songs are on the album.

But I also have to wonder how the album is going to work. AKB48 is an insanely huge group, so how are they going to decide who sings when? It’s not like singles were they can do a janken tournament or hold senbatsu elections. It’s also not a stage where they are already in their teams. So, how exactly is this going to work. If they split the songs into already existing teams or sub-groups, how is that different or exciting? I don’t know about you but if I wanted to see them in their predictable teams, I’d watch one of their stages. But I’m afraid that, that’s what’s going to happen. But if AKB48 is going to continue to stay on the top they are going to have to constantly be creative and different. Granted, albums do sell less than albums do. But since it’s AKB48 this album is sure to sell a million copies at least. I have extremely high hopes and expectations for this album. I hope I’m not let down.

As always you can purchase the album from CDJapan by clicking the links below. But I suggest you hurry. No doubt that the Limited Edition will sell out quickly.

AKB48 – First Album [CD+DVD] [Limited Edition]

AKB48 – First Album [CD+DVD] [Regular Edition]

Itano Tomomi to release 2nd single this April

After the phenomenal success of Dear J, it was announced at a live event for Dear J that AKB48 member Itano Tomomi will release yet another solo single. Her 2nd solo single will be released on April 27th, but nothing else about the single have been revealed yet.

I’m not really sure how I feel about this. No one can deny regular Senbatsu Member Tomochin’s popularity. However, Tomomi is hardly the best singer in AKB48. Don’t get me wrong, I really did enjoy Dear J. More than enjoyed it, I absolutely love the song! And I should probably be way more excited about her releasing a 2nd single, but I just can’t be 100% excited because if the song was sung by a different AKB48 singer I would probably like it even more than I do now. I don’t know it’s just sad that she’s only getting to release solo singles because of how popular she is, while better singer who are less popular don’t get the same opportunity. I realize that’s how the idol business works. But it still kinda hate it. However, if it actually liked Tomomi more, or it was a member I liked more, I’d probably be super excited. I guess I’m no better than anyone else. XD

No doubt, as soon as the previews for the song are released I’ll be all over that.

If only French Kiss could find love

AKB48 sub-group French Kiss released the PV for their 2nd single, If, a couple of days ago. I’m a little less than a week late to make this post. But there’s nothing that says I absolutely have to make the review the day the PV comes out. XD

I’ve been really impressed with this song since I first heard it. So, I’ve been super excited to see the PV. Mostly because I love school themed PVs. I think they always come out cuter. The PV is apparently based off a drama that’s included in some versions of the single. But I didn’t bother watching the drama. Obviously since I can’t speak Japanese there’d but no point. But because of that the PV doesn’t make 100% sence. I am it’s simple enough for you to know the main storyline. Yuki’s guy treats her bad, Asuka is too afraid to confess, and Aki has unrequited love. But the PV also throws other random clips throughout the PV that you realize you’re not getting the whole story/big picture.

  Yuki is super pretty.

I am in love with these outfits. They remind me of C-ute’s Aitai Lonely Christmas outfits.

All for one and one for all! I don’t know, I just thought this was really cute.

  Look how Aki looks.

I’m sorry, but I’d kill for those boots. But not Aki’s, they’re hideous. XD

  Asuka looks gorgeous.

Seriously? In the preview he looked kinda cute. He’s maybe a 3. :/

But the guy sitting next to Asuka is completely cute! D:

But she likes him? Seriously, the casting director is blind!

It is just me or, does anyone else notice that sometimes Asuka looks very cat like. She’s still super pretty though.

Woah, I just got a wicked flashback of Morning Musume’s Namida ga Tomaranai Houkago PV.

Apparently he was just making weird before because he’s totally a 6. *O*

  Adorable!

Yeah, don’t leave mildly attractive love interest. XD

It totally looked like they were randomly going to make out here. Lolz.

That’s funny, I’ve never once feed food to a female friend. XD Cute scene though.

Asuka’s about to make some Morning Coffee. Come on it’s the same outfit from the PV! Yes, I realize that, that’s a common outfit to wear. But whatever. By the way, for some reason Asuka looks 100 times prettier with glasses.

Lolz. Yea, that always cheers me up too. XD

Aww they all got to confess their feelings.

(PV) French Kiss – If (1280×720 H.264)

French Kiss-If preview

AKB48 subgroup French Kiss will be releasing their 2nd single, If, on January 19th.

This is yet another song and PV preview in one. Which means we hardly get to hear the song at all. Nothing beyond the chorus, so the verse and bridge could be completely bland. However, I hope that’s not the cause because the chorus is completely amazing. It’s pretty soft but heavy enough to dance to. The song so far is also extremely catchy and very pleasant to listen to. But that’s mostly because of the flawlessness of Yuki’s voice. She definitely one of the best, and one of my favorite, voices in AKB48. French Kiss as a whole blends together beautifully. All of the members seem to have similar voices/tones in their voices.

I also want to briefly talk about the PV because the 40 seconds that they show seem to tell the whole story. In the 40 seconds you mostly only see the dance scenes and each member longing for someone at school. But what the story looks like to me is all 3 girls like the same guy, but Yuki ends up seeing him behind her friends back. Hence why she’s always walking ahead of them, like she’s leaving them early to meet him. That would make the PV really interesting. But it will probably end up being something more mundane like basically just longer for someone and “if” you were with them. But either way I’m excited for the PV. Half because I like the song and half because the guy in it looks pretty cute.

Itano Tomomi-Dear J preview

AKB48 member Itano Tomomi is releasing her first solo single. The single is entitled Dear J and will be released on January 26th.

After falling in love with Queen & Elizabeth’s Love Wars I’ve really grown to love Tomomi’s voice. Love Wars was probably the first time I ever actually heard her voice, and I was really surprised by how cute it was. So, when this single was announced I was really looking forward to it.

I’m a little sad that the short PV preview only lets us hear about 15 seconds of the song. I’m sure there’s a full radio rip floating around somewhere, but I can’t find it. But the little bit that I heard I completely wasn’t expecting. Maybe it’s the heavy music or the effects done to her voice, but Tomomi’s voice sounds a lot stronger and deeper than it usually does. I’m completely impressed by what I see and hear. The whole song and PV is reminiscent of something Amuro Namie would release. I’m actually looking forward to the PV. The song kinda very danceable and electronic sounding, I wonder if it was composed by a Korean person like SDN48’s GAGAGA.

NTV Best Artist 2010 performances!

NTV aired their Best Artist of 2010 special yesterday. The idol line up included: Arashi, AKB48, KAT-TUN, NEWS, Perfume, Hey! Say! JUMP, and Tackey and Tsubasa.

The lineup was pretty much expected. Lots of Johnny’s and AKB48. I really wish more female idols were the best artist’s of 2010. Don’t get me wrong, I love JE, but I’d love to see some variety in these shows.

Here are the clips of the performances from the show.

Hey! Say! JUMP + Tackey and Tsubasa:

Hey! Say! JUMP’s performance is supposed to be a medley but it’s not really. They sing Ultra Music Power and “Arigatou” ~Sekai no Doko ni Itemo~. Tackey and Tsubasa sing Venus and Ai wa Takaramono. I was actually pretty excited they performed Venus, because I love that song.

AKB48:

This is their performance of Iiwake Maybe. I was pretty sure they did a medley, if they did I can’t find of video of it. Sorry. :/

Arashi:

Arashi performed 3 songs. Their 3 songs were Believe, Happiness and Monster. Monster is my personal favorite. But 3/5 of their pants were wayyy too tight. And MatsuJun has jacked up hair. XD The fangirl screams when they walked near them were pretty loud and intense.

NEWS:

NEWS performed Kibou ~Yell~ and Fighting Man.

KAT-TUN:

KAT-TUN performing Real Face and Going. I don’t understand why they aren’t singing Change UR World.

Road to becoming an AKB48 fangirl part 3: Myuujikku Staato

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve updated this series in my blog. I really wanted to update it sooner, but I relapsed with knowing the girl’s names in AKB48 so I had to relearn them. But I think I’ve finally got it. XD

And doing so allowed me to put full focus on learning about the AKB48 beyond the girls’ names. This time I decided to listen to the music. I listened to the performances that were subtitled on youtube to start out. (it will take a lot longer to listen to their full disography.)

I also watched most of the new AKB team stages, just so I can get a feel for what each members voices sound like now. And the girls have way better voices then I expected them to have. There’s hardly any girl’s voice I didn’t like or any girl that can’t sing. So far these are my favorite AKB48 voices: Maeda Atsuko, Nonaka Misato, Katayama Haruka, Nakaya Sayaka, Akimoto Sayaka, Minegishi Minami, Oshima Yuko, Nakatsuka Tomomi, Oku Manami, Sato Natsuki,Kashiwagi Yuki, Sato Amina, and Kitahara Rie.

But my god Akimoto Sayaka is beyond incredible! Her voice is 5 times more powerful then Takahashi Ai’s. I don’t even know anything bout Sayaka and want to be a Sayaka fangirl because of her voice alone. I just hope her personality isn’t as flat as Ai-chans, for her yo end up with the ranks of Ai-chan. An amazing singer who has a boring personality. But I guess you can’t really compare the 2 voices because Ai’s is more powerful and elegant. Where Sayaka’s is more powerful and fierce.

There are A LOT of songs that I absolutely love. But here are the ones that stuck out the most to me: Kokoro no hashi no Sofa , Kimi to Niji to Taiyou to, Akogare no Pop Star, Ashita no tame ni Kiss wo, Nounai Paradise, 16 Nin Shimai No Uta , Junjou Shugi, and Seifuku Resistance. But my absolute favorite songs are Heart Gata Virus and Gyakuten oujisama because I can relate to them the most.

It kinda seems like I’m going to be a Team K fan, huh?

Idols win on the Chart Awards for the Billboard Japan Music Awards

Billboard has just announced the winners of Chart Awards for the Billboard Japan Music Awards. The actual Artist Awards won’t be announced until the Billboard Japan Music Awards are held on February 6th. And since this is an idol blog, I will only be sharing the categories where idol groups have won an award.

Billboard JAPAN Hot 100 of the Year 2010:

1. Troublemaker – Arashi

Billboard JAPAN Hot 100 Singles Sales of the Year 2010:

1. Troublemaker – Arashi
2. Monster – Arashi
3. Love Rainbow – Arashi
4. Hatenai Sora – Arashi
5. Dear Snow – Arashi
6. To be free – Arashi
7. Heavy Rotation – AKB48
8. FANTAS” – EXILE
9. Love yourself~Kimiga Kirai na Kimi ga Suki~ – KAT-TUN
10. Beginner – AKB48

Arashi seems to dominate all the singles charts, as expected. Arashi is up there 13 times. Despite how well Begiiner, Heavy Rotation, and Ponytail to Shushu did AKB48 is only up there 3 times. Which honestly doesn’t make sense to me. AKB48’s Beginner outsold Troublemaker by almost 300k. I don’t understand what Billboard is basing the sales off of.
I also can’t believe Arashi didn’t get to number 1 on the album charts.

New members to Watarirouka Hashiritai?

There are some reports, or rumors, going around that AKB48 subgroup Watarirouka Hashiritai is adding AKB48 members, Iwasa Misaki and Komori Mika, to their 7th single being released in February. As of right now their is no official conformation about this. And a lot of fans are questioning wether this is a one-shot deal, or a permanent addition to the group.

Now, I hardly ever makes posts like this about AKB48 and their subgroups. Mostly because I’m not an AKB48 super wota yet. But screw that, I’m gonna blog about whatever I want! XD But Watrirouka Hashiritai is my favorite AKB48 subgroup, and I follow them pretty closely. Mostly because of the always gorgeous and seemingly perfect Watanabe Mayu.

If this line-up is permanent, I honestly don’t really mind it. I didn’t really care when Kikuchi Ayaka was added to the group. I don’t really like her voice too much because she can’t sing. But no one in Watarirouk Hashiritai can really sing. So, it didn’t really change things much.

I’m not really sure what either girls voice even sound like. I haven’t come across one song were they have a solo. So, I’m looking forward to how they sound in the group. Apparently, Misaki has an incredible voice, but I’ve yet to hear it.

I’ll be fine with a 7nin groups as long as Mayuyu still leads the songs. If she doesn’t then I might be a little upset. XD
